IMC Chapter 141

Ending

As the requiem came to an end, there was no sound from the other side of the rock, and no trace of life could be felt. The three of them knew that Mr. Sea Urchin had, as he wished, “fallen asleep”.

They walked to the other side of the rock and saw the scientist who had long desired death due to his prolonged existence. He lay quietly on the ground, his arms completely at his sides. To be honest, even in this state, Mr. Sea Urchin’s appearance was still striking, though the intense sense of corrosion had vanished.

Around Mr. Sea Urchin, several small robots of various designs circled him. These little robots were unaware that Mr. Sea Urchin would never wake up again. They obediently circled him, waiting for him to issue his next command.

Shu Bao and the others quickly prepared to leave. Since the flow of time on this planet was very slow, the sooner they left, the better. Not long after they took off from the surface, the sound of the requiem echoed once again.

The three of them looked down in surprise and saw a small robot by Mr. Sea Urchin, which was playing a recording. Clearly, this was a recording made by the robot while Fu Qing played the requiem. Of course, now that the requiem was being played through the recording, it no longer had any magical effects, but it still sounded soothing.

“Did Mr. Sea Urchin ask for this, or did the little robot decide to do this on its own?” Lan Qing asked curiously.

As soon as he finished speaking, all the small robots surrounding Mr. Sea Urchin began playing music in sync with the requiem, as though they were holding a funeral for him.

Lan Qing’s question went unanswered. No one knew whether the little robots had developed self-awareness, or if it was the consciousness of the mechanoid that had fused with Mr. Sea Urchin.

Earlier, in the chaos source, Shu Bao had seen the mechanoid that had fused with Mr. Sea Urchin, and he also learned the true origins of the mechanoids.

After the chaos occurred, many mechanoids with independent consciousness had come to this place, but they had all disappeared. This wasn’t because they had all failed, but because this was the place where the mechanoids’ dimensional ascension was easiest.

In the ruins of the mechanoids, Shu Bao had read about the history of their birth. The records stated that each mechanoid was once a planet, but later in the mechanoids’ main city, the history seemed to change, claiming that the mechanoids were created by Lai Mi. These two accounts appeared to be contradictory.

In reality, when the chaotic universe received a spaceship from this universe, it mistakenly thought it was a gift from another universe, for that spaceship was full of friendly greetings.

The chaotic universe originally had no intelligent life that could communicate with humans. In response to this warm gesture, a star transformed into consciousness and entered Lai Mi’s body.

However, when that star abandoned its conscious form and became a physical object, it lost the memory of once being a star. Thus, Lai Mi’s consciousness was born. He began to live in the chaotic universe and waited for the “friends” to arrive.

It was only when the “friends” arrived that the stars of the chaotic universe realized the terrifying nature of humanity. The life they had created was ruthlessly destroyed, and even the stars themselves began to wither rapidly.

As more and more life and stars dimmed, eventually, a second star entered the body of Wei Lai, and Wei Lai awakened its self-consciousness. Following that, more and more stars entered those steel bodies and began to resist the invaders.

This was the origin of the mechanoids. However, every star that became part of the mechanoids lost the memory of once being a star, only to recover it when they arrived at the source of chaos. To save their shattered home, they chose to ascend to higher dimensions in search of a solution.

Similarly, humans were also a form of star, but unlike the mechanoids, they had not only forgotten but also learned to possess. Therefore, the mechanoids did not completely exterminate the remaining humans in the chaotic universe. They still hoped that one day humanity would realize this, but it seemed like that day was still far off.

After bidding farewell to the chaotic source, the three of them returned along the same route. Their journey back was relatively smooth, and the massive creatures in the black domain gradually learned to behave after a few beatings.

In their free time, the three would discuss their plans after returning. The great chaos would come eventually, and they needed to build enough shelters to accommodate more life.

When they returned to the Imperial Capital, they found that three years had passed in the chaotic world. It was easy to imagine that time in the real world had passed even faster. The three of them split up to return to their respective bases to address the issues that had accumulated over the years. Fu Qing, inevitably, had to go back and deal with the rebellious people.

When Shu Bao returned, he was still warmly welcomed by the people of Xia Wang City. He quickly learned from the high priest that the high priest had indeed once led a team to the vicinity of the chaotic source, but in reality, that area was a void, and the high priest and his team had been helpless.

After several failed attempts, everyone had to return. When the high priest spoke of this, he still felt guilty, thinking he hadn’t been of much help. However, Shu Bao told him that when he had been lost and confused, he had heard the voices of the high priest and others, which had provided him with the breakthrough direction.

“I’m so glad I could help the Divine One,” the high priest said happily upon hearing this, feeling that he had finally matured as a high priest and could now assist the Divine One.

Since the great chaos would come eventually, after returning to the city, the three of them met several more times and finalized their shelter construction plans. They would not only build shelters in the real world but also push forward with the shelters in the chaotic world. To help people in the real world adapt to the chaotic world earlier, they even encouraged everyone to go to the chaotic world as exchange students.

The chaotic universe was so vast that relying solely on the three of them was not enough. After two years of implementing the shelter plan, this policy was expanded to others, especially those participants with infrastructure systems, who became the main force.

After thoroughly understanding their future situation, they realized that this universe could not accept them. To survive, they would have to rely on themselves. In this chaotic space-time, the various races, which originally had many conflicts, unexpectedly united.

With the combined forces of magic and technology, the construction of the shelters proceeded smoothly. Planets that couldn’t build shelters due to time constraints or unsuitable conditions began orderly interstellar migration. Even so, many lives couldn’t be moved, such as the flowers, plants, and trees that covered the planets.

When the darkness arrived, they withered quickly. However, their seeds had long been moved and carried away to distant planets, waiting for the opportunity to sprout once more.

While everyone worked hard to build their homes, the darkness in the chaotic world accelerated its encroachment. Whether this was influenced by the darkness or not, the mechanoids had not been seen. Shu Bao felt that perhaps Wei Lai had abandoned the fake Lai Mi and chosen to quietly accompany Lai Mi in solitude.

Shu Bao had also considered communicating with Wei Lai, since there might be magic that could bring Lai Mi back to life. However, he ultimately gave up on this idea. After learning the true origin of the mechanoids, Shu Bao knew that once the darkness swallowed the home planet of the mechanoids, Lai Mi and Wei Lai would be freed from their steel bodies, returning to their original conscious forms. They would also regain all their memories, and at that time, nothing would be able to stop them.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, countless shelters were constructed, and life in those shelters began anew. Of course, many people chose to face the darkness head-on, entering the chaotic world early to adapt to the life that would follow the great chaos.

As the darkness gradually descended, the people of this universe finally lost all information about the chaotic universe. By this time, they realized that they had chosen to look away from the extinction of their own kind and the beings of another universe.

Some people took to the internet to accuse others of their cold-bloodedness, while others felt the decision was not wrong. After all, no one could have predicted the consequences of opening a wormhole to connect to a chaotic universe. However, these debates were irrelevant to the chaotic universe.

The people of this universe did not know that, at this moment, the chaotic universe, now engulfed in complete darkness, was far from silent. Many powerful and terrifying dark creatures had emerged here, and beings would be driven mad or transformed into monsters due to fear, despair, and other negative emotions.

Yet, on many planets, bright spots were shining like pearls. These were the shelters that had been established before the great chaos. Magic and technology had connected them, ensuring they were not alone in this dark world.

After the loss of sunlight, even time seemed to become blurry. Generations of people came and went in the shelters. Many of the friends that Shu Bao had known gradually grew old and, like Mr. Sea Urchin, “fell asleep”.

However, there were still many individuals with high magical talents who, due to their long lifespans, continued to accompany Shu Bao.

Fu Qing no longer had to worry about rebellious problems in his base, as he had passed his position as city lord to the plush ball. After Shu Bao became the new city lord, no one attempted rebellion.

Finally, after struggling through countless dark nights, a ray of light suddenly appeared on a distant experimental planet. The light shone like a sharp axe, splitting the heavy darkness and separating light from dark, giving birth to an entirely new world.

In the eyes of the people from the chaotic universe, a hundred, a thousand, or even ten thousand years had passed since the arrival of the great chaos.

But for the people of this universe, the live broadcast signal resumed less than ten days after it had been interrupted! This shocked the people of this universe—could it be that the so-called great chaos was just a ten-day period of darkness?

However, when they watched the chaotic universe once again through the live broadcast, they saw that it was a completely new world. Many of the long-lived participants were still alive, which was why they were able to witness the broadcast.

The world after the great chaos was especially intriguing. It was a world where both magic and technology were highly advanced. In just ten days, the technology of the chaotic universe had already surpassed theirs, developing many things they couldn’t even comprehend.

The universe was in an uproar. The reborn chaotic universe was so brilliant, so captivating, and now free of any danger. As a result, the idea of reopening the wormhole was once again put on the agenda.

During their heated discussions, some people noticed something strange about the inhabitants of the chaotic universe. It seemed that they were preparing for interstellar migration. But the environment in the chaotic universe was now suitable, and resources were abundant—so why would they need to migrate? And where could they even go?

In the chaotic universe, which had once again been bathed in light, the people did not relax. They had already set their sights on the next goal: space migration. As reminded by the divine beings, this universe would eventually be discovered by higher-dimensional civilizations. Before that happened, they needed to find a safer universe and escape the era of great chaos. People quickly entered the great migration era.

After tens of thousands of years of waiting, magic and technology had advanced enough to tear through space and time, creating wormholes to other universes without the need for any data.

However, what they were searching for was not a universe teeming with life but one that was barren. Having experienced the agony of invasion, they certainly would not become the next invaders. Instead, they chose to become creators—the first observers of the next universe.

Expedition teams passed through various wormholes to explore other universes, and they quickly sent back data. After much discussion, Shu Bao and the others decided on a brand new universe, one that had not yet birthed life, and designated it as their new home.

Upon realizing the intention of the chaotic universe’s migration, the people of this universe thought these individuals were crazy. Yet, at the same time, they couldn’t suppress a feeling of envy. Had they really become so powerful that they could now travel to any universe? They were unwilling to admit it, but they had to—this group’s technological level had far surpassed their own.

The people of this universe had no idea where the inhabitants of the chaotic universe had gone, and they couldn’t comprehend their actions. All live broadcasts of those traveling to foreign universes were interrupted, leaving them completely unaware of the place to which the people of the chaotic universe had ventured.

What astonished them even more was that not only did the chaotic universe people carry out population migration, but they even proceeded to move entire planets. They had physically transferred many life-bearing planets!

As the people of this universe watched in stunned silence, the chaotic universe, which had only recently regained light, fell silent once more. As the last participant left, the live broadcast signal was finally cut off. When the broadcast screen disappeared, the people of this universe felt a sense of unease, though they could not quite pinpoint the cause.

Although Shu Bao and the others had left the chaotic universe, many prophets predicted the future of the chaotic universe. Soon, a new civilization would arrive, take root, and thrive there. This civilization would be highly advanced in virtual reality technology and artificial intelligence.

The barrier between the chaotic universe and the current universe would vanish, and the two universes would collide and interact. Many civilizations would be born and destroyed here until the arrival of higher-dimensional civilizations.

Shu Bao could not prevent the arrival of subsequent civilizations. After consulting with Fu Qing and Lan Qing, they decided to leave behind some warnings, knowing that these warnings would need to endure the test of time, lasting for millions or even billions of years.

In the end, the three of them joined forces and used magic to create a sound wave. This sound wave would echo throughout the chaotic universe. Any civilization that could decode it would learn of the impending attack by a higher-dimensional civilization on the entire chaotic universe. After that, it would be up to them whether they chose to stay or leave.

This mysterious echo from the ancient universe was later called the “Immortal Song” by the civilizations that followed.

Moonlit: That ending seems familiar… If I remember correctly, it was mentioned in “Interstellar Greening Master” that Xian Ge Galaxy repeatedly played ‘songs’ to warn its inhabitants of the impending disaster. Could that be the “Immortal Song” that Shu Bao, Lan Qing, and Fu Qing left as a warning?

Thanks for the translation! I’m glad the bug with the mech origins was fixed. I really wish there were at least some extras though.
