DCFRP Chapter 94

Uninvited guest

TL: Hua

However, Qi Xiaoyu had not yet returned to accompany Xun Qian to sweep the tomb, yet Xun Qian had come to the north first.

The northern region is mountainous.

The mountaintop is covered with snow that has not melted for years.

The bottom of the mountain is covered with layers of new white snow.

From a distance, the mountain town is covered with silver, beautiful and quiet, cold and gentle. No wonder this place is known as the pearl of ice and snow.

The scenery here is beautiful in spring and summer, and it is very suitable for skiing and soaking in hot springs in winter. Therefore, it is well-known and attracts many tourists.

The program had good ratings last season, and this season they secured a lot of sponsorship and investment. The program team generously rented a luxurious hot spring restaurant on the hillside for them, ensuring a comfortable and fun stay.

After settling down, the division of labor was the same as last season. Qi Xiaoyu was the chef, Xue Jingchu was the assistant chef, Jiang Sicheng was the kitchen staff, Gu Meiling and Lu Tongtong were responsible for the restaurant reception, and Zheng Peizu was the store manager.

Everyone cleaned up the restaurant together, prepared for the opening, went to the ski resort, played snowball fights, and made snowmen.

After skiing, Jiang Sicheng suggested that everyone go to the nearby horse farm to try horse riding.

Lu Tongtong, who was lying down on the snow, waved her hands in a hurry, gasping for breath and saying, “No, no, it’s too cold.”

Zheng Peizu also waved his hands, “You young people go; I can’t do it anymore; I’ll go back and rest first.”

When they skied, they wore thick, one-piece ski suits, wrapping themselves from head to toe into a round snowman to protect themselves from the cold, but their hands and feet were still frozen stiff.

Horse riding clothes are nowhere near as warm as ski clothes, and the cold wind on horseback is piercing, so no one wants to try.

Jiang Sicheng suggested twice in a roundabout manner, saying, “With so many people at the ski resort, the cameraman must be tired, and he probably couldn’t get many good shots. There are few people at the racecourse, so perhaps the camera has an easier time filming us.”

After saying that, he also knew that this reason was far-fetched and muttered, “You guys can accompany me and watch me ride.”

He had learned horse riding for several years and thought he was good at it, so he wanted to show off in front of Xue Qingchu.

Qi Xiaoyu saw through what he was thinking and agreed with a smile, “Okay, I’ll go with you.”

Seeing Qi Xiaoyu’s relenting, except for Zheng Peizu, who wanted to go back to rest, the others also followed and responded, “Then let’s go for a while. You can have fun by yourself; we won’t ride.”

Jiang Sicheng grinned complacently, “Okay, just watch me.”

It was their first time at a horse farm, and they didn’t expect the scale here to be two or three times larger than the ski resort. The area on the hillside alone was as large as two or three football fields.

The tall and robust staff, wearing a windbreaker and a warm leather hat, introduced them to the situation of the horse farm: “Don’t be fooled by the lack of people here now; it can be lively when it comes to races. There are several snow horse races here every winter, including driving races, snow obstacle races, and obstacle-free races…”

As he spoke, the staff pointed to the snow-covered fir trees next to them, “Do you see these fir trees? The horse racers have to cross from this side to the other side of the forest. The horses cross numerous obstacles and gallop between the white snow and the forest, creating a very exciting scene.”

The crowd looked to the forest made up of fir trees on the left as the staff directed them.

The fir forest grew down the steep slope from as far as they could see, with no visible depth or end at all.

Lu Tongtong exclaimed, “I saw this fir forest before I slid down the slope just now. It’s so deep that I couldn’t even see the top of the mountain. I didn’t expect it to be used for horse racing.”

She turned to the staff, “What if the contestants get lost or injured and can’t get out? It doesn’t look easy to rescue them here, does it?”

The staff shrugged and said casually, “Horse racing is supposed to test courage, fearlessness, and strength. If you can’t do this, how can you participate in the competition? Might as well stay home in front of the fireplace all the time.”

“In a few days, there will be the first snow horse race of the year. This year, the snow is heavy, so the difficulty will be higher, which is very fascinating to witness. You should check it out.”

Gu Meiling teased Jiang Sicheng, “Our brave Mr. Jiang, do you also want to try riding a horse through the fir forest?”

Jiang Sicheng snorted proudly, “What’s there to be afraid of?”

Xue Qingchu came out to smooth things over, “What time is it? We won’t wait for you if you go.”

Jiang Sicheng was then coaxed into changing clothes and choosing a horse.

The others turned around and went to rest in a nearby spectator’s seat, chatting about funny things they’d done while skiing.

After a while, they heard Jiang Sicheng’s call from afar with the cold wind.

They looked up and saw a man wearing a fluorescent green windbreaker, a white equestrian hat, and windproof glasses riding a black horse on the silver-white snow.

Riding a horse on the snow is much shakier than on flat ground. To make things worse, the horses in the north don’t seem to be in the best of tempers. They keep stepping back and forth and don’t obey discipline.

Jiang Sicheng’s posture wasn’t as heroic as he thought it would be, and he kept swaying a bit from side to side.

Everyone laughed so hard that they couldn’t sit straight. He was obviously nervous but had to brace himself to pull out a hand to say hello.

Jiang Sicheng came here to show off his skills, but he didn’t expect that riding a horse in the snow would be so difficult. First, the wind was strong, and his hat and glasses blew his facial features out of shape. Second, riding a horse in the snow was very rough and bumpy.

But Xue Qingchu was present, so he couldn’t be so cowardly as to get off immediately. He had to run a lap in the cold wind with all his strength.

He was so frozen when he dismounted that he missed the stirrups and fell right off.

Fortunately, the horse didn’t move, and the snow was thick under him, so it didn’t matter if he fell.

He was covered in snow when he came back and was jointly roasted by Gu Meiliang and Lu Tongtong.

Although the start in the north was good and they cooperated well, they also encountered new difficulties. For example, in the north with long winters, food is very limited, and fresh vegetables are not in demand.

Buying food is also not easy. The supermarket at the foot of the mountain is seven or eight kilometers away.

They have to buy all the food they will use in the near future in one trip, but they have to control the budget and not overspend. Although the restaurant provided by the program team is very luxurious, the money given is still very small.

Outside of the restaurant, there are various snow sport venues.

In this kind of weather, there are many more people in the ski resort than in the horse farm, especially on weekends or holidays like Christmas. The venue is even more packed, and their restaurant will be very lively.

But on ordinary working days, if the weather is bad, it will be very deserted.

On this day, which was neither a holiday nor a heavy snowfall, the restaurant had an unexpected visitor.

The visitor was covered in a thick layer of snow, on his brown plaid tweed duck hat, on his wool scarf, and on his dark camel-colored herringbone coat.

Before he came in, he stood at the door and shook off the snow on his body. His bony fingers were frozen red.

He has a slender figure, and the wool coat with excellent texture makes his figure more upright.

The action of shaking off the snow was also very elegant.

Gu Meiling patted Lu Tongtong on the shoulder. “You go.”

Lu Tongtong hurried over to greet him and handed over a clean towel.

After the other party shook off the snow and reservedly wiped away the water stains, he said, “Thank you.” When he took off the cap and the scarf wrapped around his neck, Lu Tongtong was taken aback when she saw who the visitor was.
