TPAE chapter 5.8

The unified migration direction of the zombies caught the attention of the Lin siblings and Lin Jianbai. The horde surrounding the rooftop dispersed, allowing Lin Lei to exhale deeply. He turned to Lin Huan, who stood on the edge of the rooftop, and said, “Let’s go, hurry up and search for supplies.”

In stark contrast, Lin Jianbai, pulling Da Lei along, left the warehouse and followed the zombie horde from a distance. “Let’s check it out. Who knows? There might be something good.”

Outside a clothing store, more and more zombies gathered, forming circles around the small shop and radiating outward as if protecting something.

Lin Jianbai, fearing that getting too close would attract the zombies’ attention, found a vantage point in a distant tall building and observed from afar.

Da Lei, growing impatient, rubbed his nose and said, “Jianbai, if we keep waiting like this, it’ll be dark soon, and we haven’t collected any supplies.”

“Just wait a little longer. I have a feeling there’s something off about that store,” Lin Jianbai replied without irritation, his gaze fixed on the clothing store’s door.

“Fine, you can stay and wait by yourself. I’m going to gather supplies.” Da Lei couldn’t understand why they were wasting such a prime opportunity waiting for an answer that might never come.

He was a simple man with no big aspirations—he just wanted to fill his stomach.

Turning away, Da Lei’s departure barely registered to Lin Jianbai, who continued crouching by the window, staring at the store. It seemed like the zombies from the entire town had gathered here.

From a distance, the area around the store was densely packed with dots.

Even from far away, Lin Jianbai couldn’t help but gasp. In such a small town, there were already so many zombies— what kind of nightmare would it be in the densely populated cities?

Meanwhile, inside the store, Wei Xicheng was entirely unaware of what was happening outside. He was tightly held in place by Yu Beiyan, unable to move. Even turning his head to glance at Yu Beiyan’s expression was a struggle.

A pair of large hands gripped his waist so firmly that the warmth from the palms seemed to burn through his skin.

“What were you doing just now? Do it again.” A hoarse voice sounded, like sandpaper grinding over gravel, inexplicably seductive.

Wei Xicheng was forcibly turned around, their gazes locking. Yu Beiyan’s deep, dark eyes seemed ready to devour him whole.

“Do… do what?” Wei Xicheng tried his best to feign innocence, forcing a smile. “What happened earlier?”

“Just… like this.”

Cool fingertips traced from his lips to the corner of his mouth, then down to his chin. They circled around his Adam’s apple, brushing over it twice, and continued downward to his collarbone.

“And keep going…” Yu Beiyan’s breath tickled his ear, the sound penetrating straight to his brain and drowning out all other thoughts. Wei Xicheng’s mind was left with only the man’s heavy breathing and the lingering sensation of his touch.

When the hand briefly withdrew, it didn’t stay idle for long. It slipped beneath the hem of his shirt, sliding upward and lifting the fabric slightly, revealing a tight, flat abdomen with faint muscle lines.

Wei Xicheng suddenly snapped out of it. He locked eyes with Yu Beiyan, grabbing his hand tightly. “You’re a psychic ability user?”

“Mm.” The restrained hand didn’t stop its wandering.

“Do you even know what you’re doing?” Wei Xicheng tightened his grip.

“I don’t know. But it feels good,” Yu Beiyan replied, gently prying Wei Xicheng’s hand away. His own fingers continued to roam over the younger man’s body, stoking the fire wherever they went.

“Didn’t you do the same thing just now? You liked it too, didn’t you?”

Damn it.

How come you don’t learn this quickly in other areas?

Wei Xicheng now had a valid reason to believe that Yu Beiyan’s psychic powers were too overwhelming and had fried his brain.

But that was fine. Wei Xicheng raised his arm to hook it around Yu Beiyan’s neck, their lips brushing together as he murmured softly,

“Then let me teach you something even more fun.”

In an instant, their positions flipped. Wei Xicheng was pressed firmly beneath Yu Beiyan, his hands pinned above his head. The man used his knee to force his legs apart. With his lower back resting on a low cashier’s counter, Wei Xicheng’s body was bent into an arc, bringing him even closer to Yu Beiyan.

“Yu Beiyan! My waist!” Wei Xicheng gritted his teeth. Just how much does this guy love this position? His flexibility really couldn’t handle it this time!

Later, Wei Xicheng glanced at his new set of clothes, his face flushed. Although they hadn’t gone all the way, when he saw the man kneeling in front of him, using his hands to help him out, both his body and mind were overwhelmed by waves of pleasure, drowning in indulgence.

As for the embarrassing things he’d been forced to say, Wei Xicheng couldn’t quite remember. It had to be Yu Beiyan using his psychic powers on him again. Definitely.

Yu Beiyan, also dressed in new gear, was a stark contrast to his earlier meticulous style. This time, he chose oversized, loose-fitting clothes that concealed his figure entirely. He even muttered something about “only letting one person see.” Wei Xicheng found it incomprehensible.

“Let’s go. We agreed to gather supplies today, so let’s find something you like to eat.” Wei Xicheng patted the creases on his new clothes, his mind still on Yu Beiyan’s health.

Even though absorbing crystal cores could counteract the body’s negative states and stave off hunger, a person couldn’t go without food indefinitely. The stomach and intestines still needed to process food regularly to maintain organ health and prevent atrophy.

Yu Beiyan glanced at him but didn’t reply. Instead, he pulled him in for a deep kiss, his eyes scanning the zombie horde outside the door.

The zombies outside seemed to have been startled by something, trembling as they scattered in all directions. Only a few high-level zombies remained, spinning in place as if trapped in a cage.

Lin Jianbai, who initially thought the day would yield no results, was caught off guard. In the blink of an eye, the zombies outside the clothing store scattered like frightened animals fleeing from a powerful and relentless predator.

He quickly concealed half of his figure, leaving only his eyes to peek out. Even though he was already a safe distance away, it was best to stay cautious.

Inside the store, Wei Xicheng took a deep breath after being released. His lover was excellent in every way—except for having lung capacity that was too impressive.

The clothing store’s door opened, and two figures walked out side by side.

Lin Jianbai’s eyes widened.

If he wasn’t mistaken, those two were none other than Wei Xicheng and Yu Beiyan, who had joined them halfway! Was the commotion among the zombies caused by these two? Could it be they had something valuable on them?

Lin Jianbai’s gaze followed the pair as they walked off into the distance, his mind racing. Should he follow or not?

Why had the zombies fled? Just how strong was Yu Beiyan? And if he were discovered, would he survive?

Human curiosity and greed are insatiable. After a fierce inner struggle, Lin Jianbai finally made up his mind.

Follow!

Wei Xicheng picked out several supermarkets to raid, even entering some houses that appeared to belong to well-off families. They ended up collecting a variety of odd items, though none of them happened to be to Yu Beiyan’s taste.

Yu Beiyan carried a sack of goods, watching as Wei Xicheng rummaged through the supermarket’s warehouse. While searching, Wei Xicheng mumbled to himself.

Unbeknownst to him, a seed seemed to sprout in Yu Beiyan’s heart—a seed that grew rapidly in his otherwise lifeless body, thriving with vitality.

Their slow pace, due to their meticulous searching, allowed Lin Jianbai to track their movements easily. However, he never dared to get too close, fearing his presence would be noticed. Unable to uncover any significant clues, he carefully chose a nearby inn behind the warehouse. The two were now separated by only a single wall.

The moment Lin Jianbai entered the inn, a blood-stained, dull-edged axe swung straight toward his head.

Lin Jianbai quickly rolled to the side, breaking into a cold sweat as he called out just in time to stop the falling axe. “It’s me!”

Lin Huan lowered her weapon, surprised. “What are you doing here?”

“I came from the west. There were too many zombies and too few supplies over there. Where’s Lin-ge?” Lin Jianbai wiped a bit of sweat from his forehead, exhaling in relief.

“He’s out. There were a lot of zombies to the east, so we came to the center of town. But then all those zombies started gathering. My brother told me to hide here while he went to check it out, but he hasn’t come back yet.” Lin Huan’s tone grew anxious as she spoke. “I knew I shouldn’t have let him go alone! By the way, where’s Da Lei?”

“He and I split up to act separately,” Lin Jianbai replied. He walked over to the wall that connected to the warehouse and pressed his ear against it to listen closely.

“What are you doing?” Lin Huan asked, puzzled.

“Shh,” Lin Jianbai gestured for her to stay quiet and motioned for her to come over and listen too.

Lin Huan pressed her ear to the wall and heard a familiar, clear male voice muttering.

“Doesn’t like cookies, doesn’t like ham, does he prefer vegetarian or meat? Maybe I’ll grab some yogurt for him later.”

“Dried fruit, too, and some sweets and spicy snacks…”

Lin Huan pulled away, her expression complicated as she looked at Lin Jianbai. Tentatively, she spoke, “You know, feelings between men aren’t a big deal. It’s the apocalypse—no one cares about that kind of thing anymore. If you like him, go for it.”

She paused, then added, “That said… those two seem pretty close. Don’t do anything rash, okay? We’re all teammates, after all.”

“…?” Lin Jianbai stared at Lin Huan, utterly baffled by her monologue. Ignoring her, he pressed his ear back to the wall, still trying to make sense of the muttering on the other side.

Seeing his determination, Lin Huan could tell that matters of the heart were always confusing for those involved, while outsiders saw clearly. No amount of advice would help.

She felt a bit relieved, though. Among the three of them, at least she hadn’t fallen for anyone.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the inn’s door—three slow taps followed by two quick ones. Lin Huan rushed to open it, letting Lin Lei inside.

Lin Lei looked even worse off than when he had left. His hoarse voice rasped, “I’m fine.”

“Ge!” Lin Huan scolded, dissatisfied with his stubbornness but unwilling to say more in front of Lin Jianbai.

“Lin-ge, you’re just in time. I have something to discuss with you,” Lin Jianbai said, sitting down beside Lin Lei. “You saw it too, right? The ‘zombie siege’ outside the clothing store.”

“I saw it. What do you think?” Lin Lei’s expression was heavy. He glanced at Lin Huan, who seemed unsure of what they were discussing, and continued before Lin Jianbai could answer. “Whatever it is, don’t alert anyone to it just yet.”

His hypothesis was bolder and far more terrifying than Lin Jianbai’s.
