ICAWZ Chapter 156

ARC 4: Pureblood male zerg

“What? You’re saying the wanted interstellar pirate was spotted in the central district?!”

The zerg answering the call was a clerk working as an auxiliary officer. Hearing that traces of the interstellar pirate leader had been found in the central district, he was so shocked that he couldn’t control his volume. The officers nearby, busy with their work, immediately looked up in his direction. In an instant, they surrounded him, lowering their voices in disbelief as they questioned:

“What did you say? Someone spotted the wanted interstellar pirate?”

“Was it those two male zergs?”

“They actually dared to come to the Imperial Capital?!”

The clerk nervously gestured for them to keep quiet. While opening the map system on his light computer, he asked Johnny on the other end of the call, “Please provide your exact location… Got it. Please stay in contact at all times and do not alarm the suspect. We will dispatch a nearby patrol unit, which is expected to arrive in fifteen minutes.”

Ah Sui was still unaware that he had already been exposed. Leaping down from the wall, he was about to turn and head back inside when, suddenly, a silver-gray aircraft appeared on the distant horizon, descending directly onto the open space outside the garden.

“Hiss—”

The hatch opened, and a female zerg clad in a pristine white military uniform stepped out—it was none other than Blairand, who had rushed back home in a hurry.

Seeing Ah Sui standing in the snow wearing nothing but a thin jacket, his face flushed unnaturally with an obvious sickly hue, Blairand’s expression darkened. “Why aren’t you staying inside? What are you doing out here?”

Ah Sui’s throat was hoarse from the fever. He coughed twice before managing to speak, his brows furrowed slightly in discomfort. “I was so hot… so I came outside.”

Blairand reached out to touch Ah Sui’s forehead and found it alarmingly hot. His heart sank slightly as he said in a low voice, “Let’s go. We’ll talk after we get you back inside.”

Ah Sui’s mind was clouded with fever, and any ordinary zerg would have already collapsed into convulsions. He had only managed to hold on thanks to his strong physique from years of martial arts training.

After helping him upstairs, Blairand took his temperature and discovered it had soared past 40 degrees. Without delay, he opened the medical kit and administered a specialized antipyretic injection.

Ah Sui lay weakly on the bed, completely drained of strength, unable even to sit up. He felt waves of dizziness and nausea but couldn’t vomit no matter how much he tried. In his discomfort, he could only lean against Blairand’s leg, seeking a bit of comfort. “I feel so awful…”

Seeing Ah Sui’s sickly and lethargic state made Blairand feel distressed as well. He applied a cooling patch to Ah Sui’s forehead, his brows furrowed with worry. In a low voice, he asked, “How did you suddenly get sick? Did you catch a chill by accident yesterday?”

Ah Sui closed his eyes and shook his head, thinking it was unlikely. Although it was winter in Salaranfa, the temperature was still far milder compared to the perpetually snowy and frigid northern region. He hadn’t fallen ill in the north, so it seemed even less likely here.

The sick are often more vulnerable. Resting his head on Blairand’s leg, Ah Sui nuzzled against him gently. Even his voice was weak as he murmured, “Hold me.”

Blairand sat on the edge of the bed and, hearing his request, tightly embraced Ah Sui. He rested his chin against the male zerg’s forehead, occasionally reaching down to check Ah Sui’s temperature, his face filled with visible concern. “Apart from the fever, is there anywhere else that hurts?”

Ah Sui shook his head, having lost the strength to speak.

Blairand glanced at the time on his wrist, mentally calculating when the medication would take effect. If it still didn’t work, he would have no choice but to take the risk of sending Ah Sui to the hospital for treatment. If the fever continued like this, there would definitely be complications.

Blairand had already opened his terminal, preparing to contact a familiar doctor to arrange a private room. However, just then, a sudden noise came from outside the window—the sound of an aircraft landing, and it seemed to be quite loud.

Blairand’s sharp instincts immediately sensed that something was wrong. He quietly rose from the bed and cautiously walked to the balcony to check on the situation. To his shock, he saw four or five pitch-black military ships parked in front of his home, with an unknown number of armed female soldiers emerging from them, swiftly surrounding the walls in a hidden formation.

This is bad! The military actually tracked him here!

Blairand quickly drew the curtains with a sharp motion, his expression instantly darkening. He didn’t have time to think about how the military had tracked him down; he hurriedly threw on his coat and quickly made his way downstairs, locking the door behind him as he left.

Meanwhile, Johnny had arrived outside the garden with the district’s chief officer. He pointed anxiously at the wall, saying, “The male zerg was crouching right there just now. He’s definitely gone back inside by now. Hurry up and search the place!”

The chief officer furrowed his brow at the remark. Generally, interstellar pirates only fled outward, never inward. This was the central district of the Imperial Capital, where only the nobility and high-ranking officials lived, and the police station was not far off. What kind of interstellar pirate would be foolish enough to walk straight into a trap?

The chief officer hesitated, not wanting to offend anyone by barging in without cause. “Your Excellency, are you certain that male zerg is the wanted fugitive from the list?”

Johnny glared at him, his eyes full of anger. “What do you mean by that?! I’ve already told you seven or eight times on the way here—the male zerg is definitely the interstellar pirate. My brother and I were just attacked by the Klayt Alliance not long ago. They must be here for revenge. If you don’t arrest him now, I’ll call Prince Pei directly!”

Everyone in the Imperial Capital knew about the ambiguous relationship between Prince Pei and Johnny. The chief officer certainly didn’t want to make an enemy of him. “Your Excellency, please remain calm. Let us confirm the situation before taking any further action.”

The chief officer made a gesture, signaling the snipers and assault team to position themselves around the area, blocking all exits. He then, under the cover of his officers, approached the door and pressed the doorbell, ready to rush in at the first sign of trouble.

Johnny hid behind the chief officer, his gaze fixed intently on the door. It wasn’t long before a golden-haired, blue-eyed female soldier emerged from the house. His face looked somewhat familiar, and it seemed to be Major General Blairand from the military.

Blairand walked calmly to the garden gate. It was only when he reached the iron gate that he noticed a group of armed officers standing outside. A flash of surprise crossed his face, and he instinctively glanced at the chief officer leading the group through the bars. “Who are you? What are you doing outside my house?”

The chief officer cursed inwardly but quickly regained composure. He recognized Blairand and, with a polite salute, said, “Major General Blairand, my apologies for disturbing you at this time. We received an anonymous tip-off, claiming that a wanted interstellar pirate might be nearby. For safety reasons, we may need to search your residence.”

Blairand feigned confusion. “A wanted interstellar pirate? What interstellar pirate?”

The chief officer took a stack of wanted posters from one of his subordinates and pointed to one with Ah Sui’s picture on it. “This male zerg is the leader of the Klayt Alliance and is currently on the run. If he’s hiding in your home, it could be very dangerous. We hope you’ll cooperate with us.”

Blairand asked with a cryptic expression, “There are at least several hundred residences in the central district. Why specifically search mine?”

Johnny couldn’t hold back any longer and leaned forward. “Of course, it’s because that male zerg is in your house. If we don’t search your house, whose house should we search?”

Blairand turned his gaze toward him at the sound of his voice. His pale blue eyes darkened slightly, as if contemplating something. “Your Excellency, are you saying you were the one who made the anonymous report to the police just now?”

Johnny felt a bit intimidated by Blairand’s stare, but he mustered the courage to reply, “So what if it was me?”

Blairand still wore a smile, his tone neither fast nor slow as he spoke, “You say you saw a fugitive in my house—do you have any evidence? If not, does that mean anyone can just call the police and have my home searched? Doesn’t the police force need a search warrant to enter private property?”

Each of Blairand’s words seemed to be aimed directly at the chief officer, and the latter, clearly in the wrong, hesitated. “Major General Blairand, if you require a search warrant, I can provide one when we return.”

Blairand, appearing to be gentle-tempered, yet clearly not someone easy to deal with, replied, “Then please come back when you have the search warrant.”

He made no move to open the door, intending to turn and leave, but the chief officer suddenly spoke up. “Major General Blairand, we’ve already reviewed the surveillance footage from the nearby intersection. It confirms that an unfamiliar male zerg was seen at your house, and the facial recognition system was unable to identify him. Could you please bring him out so we can verify his identity?”

Blairand paused in his steps and spoke indifferently, “He is my cousin from the southern region of Yinchatait. He only arrived in the capital yesterday with Chief Harrington. He’s currently sick with a fever and cannot be exposed to the wind. If you want to verify his identity, you can directly contact Chief Harrington.”

After all, Harrington was the leader of the southern region. These junior officers would only dare to make a fuss at Blairand’s doorstep, but if they were to approach Harrington, no one would likely risk that confrontation.

The newly appointed chief officer, however, had already sensed something was off and was unusually stubborn. “If that gentleman cannot be exposed to the wind, we can still enter to check on him.”

Blairand finally turned to face him, his gaze sharpened, subtly holding an edge. “And what if I don’t agree?”

The chief officer replied, “Special circumstances require special measures. Please excuse our rudeness.”

With that, he signaled to his team behind him, issuing a direct order. “Break the door!”

At the sound of the command, three or four officers immediately rushed forward to break the lock. Seeing this, Blairand quickly drew his energy gun, aiming it at them with a cold voice. “I want to see who dares to move!”

The chief officer was already on the phone with his superiors. Seeing Blairand draw his weapon in defiance, he warned in a low voice, “Major General Blairand, if you don’t want to end up in a military court, you’d better put down that gun. Obstructing official duties and harboring a fugitive are serious crimes! Don’t force us to take action!”

As soon as his words fell, a deep, commanding voice suddenly rang out from beside him, as if a thunderclap had struck:

“I want to see who dares to make a move!”

The chief officer was startled by the voice, and instinctively looked behind him, only to see a large group of armed female soldiers at the far end of the street. Leading them was a female zerg with golden hair and green eyes—none other than Chief Harrington. He marched forward, his presence commanding, and immediately stopped the officers who were pressing towards the door, creating a tense standoff between the two sides.

Blairand was momentarily stunned by the sight and instinctively lowered his gun. “Matriarch, what brings you here?”

Chief Harrington had known in advance that Blairand would be in trouble. With the military plastering the city with wanted posters, a rare black-haired, black-eyed male zerg wasn’t exactly easy to hide. Upon hearing that the local police force had mobilized most of their team for no apparent reason, he immediately brought his subordinates to the scene.

His little zerg was really becoming more and more impressive—he actually dared to draw his gun and stand against the police force for the sake of a fugitive!

Chief Harrington shot Blairand a silent glare. “This is none of your business. Keep quiet.”

Blairand, seeing the look, gave a slight nod, stepping back to the side. “Yes, Matriarch.”

Blairand knew that since Chief Harrington had arrived, there was no way they would let Ah Sui be exposed. They were all in the same boat now, and if one of them tipped over, it would be disastrous for everyone.

Seeing this, Chief Harrington turned to face the police chief, his expression dark and foreboding, causing even the zergs present to feel a chill down their spines. “Chief Officer Marlow, you claimed that Blairand is harboring a fugitive. What evidence do you have?”

The police chief awkwardly smiled. “Chief Harrington, you misunderstood. I didn’t mean it that way.”

However, Chief Harrington clearly had no intention of wasting time with him. Without hesitation, he scolded, “If that’s not what you meant, then get your subordinates and leave immediately! I’ve only been away from the capital for half a year, and I didn’t realize the rules here had become so chaotic. You didn’t even have a search warrant, yet you tried to trespass into a distinguished residence. With no evidence, you dared to slander an imperial major for harboring a fugitive? I’ll make sure to have a word with the Director of the Police Department and ask about what kind of rules this place is following now!”

Upon hearing that Chief Harrington was going to report to his superior, Chief Officer Marlow inwardly groaned in distress. Male zergs were mostly unreliable, and Lord Johnny was notorious for his idle ways in the capital. He now realized how foolish he had been to trust Johnny’s words. With no search warrant and no evidence, if this escalated, it was he who would be in the wrong.

With a stiffened expression, the chief officer saluted. “My apologies for the offense against Major General Blairand. We’ll go back immediately and apply for a search warrant.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he waved his hand to signal his team to prepare to leave. However, just then, a series of loud “bang-bang-bang” sounds echoed from down the road, like multiple spacecraft colliding. His expression instantly changed.

“Dammit! Who left these spacecraft parked here? Move them all out of the way! If this delays anything, we’re all finished!”

Dean Dalle hurried to the scene, his assistant in tow, as they rushed through several red lights, afraid the opportunity would slip away. He clutched a blood test report in his hand, his entire body trembling with nerves, still unable to shake off the shock from the news he had just received.

Earlier that afternoon, he had been preparing to leave for a meeting when he was stopped by a doctor from the hematology department. The doctor had mysteriously closed the office door behind them and handed him a blood test report. The data was alarming—100% purity. The doctor’s voice was grave as he explained, “Dean, a male zerg came to our hospital yesterday for a blood purity test. The result came back at 100%. I reran the test more than twenty times, and each result was the same.”

The doctor paused for a moment before continuing, “He is likely a rare, pure-blooded male zerg.”

A male zerg with 100% purity! 100%! Before this, there had only been one pure-blood male zerg ever documented in all of Salaranfa, and calling it rare was an understatement. It was incredibly precious. To think that now, another one had appeared!

Dean Dalle could hardly believe his eyes. In his heart, he prayed fervently: Zerg God, please do not deceive your devoted follower. This matter must be true. It must be true! It absolutely must be true!

Anxious to confirm the truth, Dean Dalle became increasingly desperate. Seeing four or five ships blocking his way, he slammed the control panel in frustration and said to his assistant, “We can’t wait any longer! We’ll go straight through!”

He finished speaking and immediately led a group of assistants off the starship, swiftly making his way toward the address shown on the database, carrying a medical box. Just as Police Chief Marlow was about to investigate who had crashed into their patrol ship, he saw a group of doctors in white coats running desperately toward him. He quickly stepped forward to stop them, saying, “Wait! Stop! What are you doing?!”

He couldn’t remember calling for a medical team!

Dean Dalle was so shaken by the 100% blood purity data that his eyes had turned red, caught in a state of fierce determination as if ready to slay any god or Buddha who stood in his way. He had no time to deal with a small police chief. He shoved Marlow aside and angrily shouted, “Move!” Then he hurriedly followed the signs, finally stopping in front of Blairand’s house. “Is this the one?”

The assistant behind him quickly opened the terminal to verify, excitement making their voice tremble. “Dean, this is the one! The gentleman who came to our hospital for the blood purity test left this address!”

“Quick, get inside! We must not let that gentleman escape! If the data is true, report it directly to the Zerg Emperor!”

Dean Dalle, without a second thought, led his medical team straight inside. At this moment, not only was Police Chief Marlow stunned, but even Chief Harrington was momentarily taken aback. Once he regained his composure, he quickly drew his gun and shouted, “Stop! What do you think you’re doing?! Who authorized you to barge in? Get out immediately!”

Medical fanatics often lose all sense of reason, caring little for their own safety. Dean Dalle, ignoring the guns pointed at his head, pushed open the door and rushed upstairs. The situation unfolded too quickly for anyone to react in time. Only a few of his assistants stayed behind, urgently explaining to Chief Harrington, “It’s a misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding! Please don’t shoot! Our dean just wants to confirm that gentleman’s safety!”

Chief Harrington furrowed his brows and asked, “What gentleman?!”

He could understand why the police force had shown up for Ah Sui, but why had the medical team arrived as well?!

The assistant was about to explain when suddenly a gunshot rang out from upstairs. His expression changed dramatically, and he rushed inside, shouting at the top of his lungs, “Dean! Are you alright?!”

Chief Harrington then realized that Blairand had disappeared from behind him at some point. He cursed inwardly and hurriedly followed to check inside. When he reached the top of the stairs, he saw the previously frantic Dean Dalle sprawled out on the floor, limbs askew. The bedroom door nearby had been knocked open, and Blairand stood emotionless, holding a gun aimed at him. On the floor not far away, there was unmistakably a bullet hole.

Blairand’s voice was so cold it seemed like it could drip with water: “Didn’t you hear me tell you to get out?!”

Dean Dalle, of course, didn’t hear him, because he had suddenly noticed a brown-haired male zerg lying quietly on the bed. The exposed skin on the zerg was flushed, while his lips were pale and cracked, clearly suffering from a serious illness.

Ah Sui had already slipped into a semi-conscious state.

Seeing this, Blairand’s heart tightened. He watched as Dean Dalle scrambled inside, his brow furrowed, but he didn’t stop him.

He knew that Ah Sui had to be hospitalized immediately; any further delay could be life-threatening.

Dean Dalle hadn’t expected this pure-blooded male to be in such severe condition. He first touched Ah Sui’s forehead, then peeled back his eyelids to check the dilation of his pupils. Suddenly, he caught sight of Ah Sui’s pitch-black irises, and his movements froze. Shocked, he stammered, unable to finish his words, muttering to himself, “Black eyes… black eyes… It really is a 100% pure-blooded male… The last pure-blooded male also had black eyes…”

At this moment, Dean Dalle finally regained some semblance of rationality. He quickly turned to his assistants and said, “His Highness has a high fever! What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and get a stretcher to take him to the hospital!”

The assistants snapped out of their daze upon hearing this and hurried to help. They carefully lifted Ah Sui onto the stretcher, handling him as if he were fragile porcelain, afraid of causing any harm. They rushed him to the hospital in a frantic hurry, leaving the scene in chaos and disarray.

Chief Harrington initially thought he must have heard wrong. He grabbed one of the assistants left behind at the scene, his voice filled with disbelief as he asked, “What did you just call that male zerg? His Highness?”

In the Salaranfa Empire, only male zergs with pure blood purity are referred to as “Your Highness,” while others are only addressed as “Your Excellency” But just now, why did these doctors refer to Ah Sui as “Your Highness”?

The dean’s assistant, still frustrated at not having made it onto the aircraft earlier, was startled when Harrington suddenly grabbed him by the collar. He had forgotten all about the confidentiality instructions given by the dean and stammered in fear, “Yes… it’s Your Highness for sure. That one has a blood purity of 100%. He’s the second pure-blood male zerg discovered in Salaranfa so far…”

Harrington was stunned by the revelation, his mind blanking as he fell into a daze. Even Blairand, who had been standing nearby, was caught completely off guard, his expression one of utter disbelief.

How could this be? Ah Sui was actually a 100% pure-blood male zerg?!
