HAGLTP Chapter 24

The magma surged fiercely, like a crimson wave crashing down on the three.

Ye Qi was about to step forward when Xiao Lu took the lead.

Xiao Lu charged ahead, a blinding light suddenly erupted, illuminating the entire area, and collided head-on with the incoming magma.

“Boom—”

In an instant, smoke and dust exploded, and the lava scattered, causing the already high temperature in the room to rise again.

“Water.”

The enormous lid above heard Xiao Lu’s voice, and Huang Sansheng immediately understood, a large bottle of mineral water appearing in his hand, activating his ability.

Each bottle of mineral water grew to the size of an oxygen tank, and Huang Sansheng and Ye Qi worked together to splash them onto the still surging hot magma.

The water vaporized instantly upon encountering such high temperatures.

Suddenly, a hazy mist rose, enveloping everything in a thick white fog, making it nearly impossible to see one’s own fingertips.

Chen Yu was trapped in the thick fog, his blood-red eyes scanning continuously, but he could not catch sight of Xiao Lu.

He unleashed several lava attacks, but they all missed.

Suddenly, a sense of danger surged from behind, and Chen Yu clenched his fists, mercilessly elbowing back.

The enhanced strength of his body had terrifying power; even without using his abilities, he could easily break a person’s bones or even injure their internal organs.

This strike, however, hit something hard, the smooth surface feeling as fragile as glass.

This was not Xiao Lu’s attack, but a feint set up by Ye Qi.

In the next moment, a force equal to Chen Yu’s rebounded from the barrier, causing him to lose his balance and tilt to the side.

In the mist, a glimmer of light flickered.

Xiao Lu had already lunged forward with a light blade, stabbing into Chen Yu’s chest.

“Did it work?” Huang Sansheng’s hopeful voice came through.

Yet Xiao Lu’s expression did not relax; the sensation was wrong, this was not the feeling of hitting a star pattern crystal.

“Hahaha…” Long Yao’s voice, laced with amusement, echoed from above, “Don’t be misled by past experiences; I won’t place every star pattern crystal in the same position.”

“You need to be a bit smarter to satisfy me.”

Xiao Lu was too lazy to engage in trash talk with him, his focus entirely on Chen Yu.

Chen Yu had already pinpointed Xiao Lu’s location from the previous attack; his strong arm swept across, the star patterns on his body shining brightly as he charged toward Xiao Lu.

Xiao Lu nimbly jumped to avoid this powerful but slow attack.

In his view, Long Yao’s modifications to Chen Yu were actually a failure.

Just by looking at Chen Yu’s muscular and streamlined physique, it was clear that these muscles were not the kind built in a gym; he must have originally excelled in close combat.

Although the lava ability was formidable, Chen Yu’s current strength and defense were excellent, but he had lost the agility of his body, failing to leverage his original combat advantages, making him appear like a cumbersome artillery piece.

Another barrage of lava balls came hurtling toward him.

Xiao Lu easily dodged again.

They had been entangled with Chen Yu for quite some time, having already figured out most of his attack patterns, but they had been struggling to find an opportunity to break through his defenses.

Seeing his attacks fail repeatedly, Chen Yu became even more frenzied, roaring as he prepared to unleash another large-scale lava attack.

Just as he raised his hand, an ice-blue barrier silently appeared, firmly locking his hands in place.

Almost simultaneously, Xiao Lu emerged from behind, the light blade in his hand gleaming as he aimed for Chen Yu’s spine. This strike successfully pierced Chen Yu’s body again, but it did not find what Xiao Lu was looking for.

Chen Yu’s furious aura intensified, the star patterns on his arms dazzling, about to break free from the restraints.

Sensing his struggle, Xiao Lu quickened his pace, smoothly stabbing down along the spine with a second strike.

Then came the third strike.

Having dealt with so many failed experimental products, he was already well aware of the placement of the star pattern crystals, stabbing rapidly to probe for their possible locations.

The seventh strike landed on Chen Yu’s lumbar vertebra, where Xiao Lu felt a familiar hard lump.

“Crack—” The ice-blue barrier shattered.

Xiao Lu’s eyes lit up.

In the instant Chen Yu broke free from the restraints, Xiao Lu successfully extracted the star pattern crystal from within him.

The tall figure in black collapsed with a thud, his gaze turning hollow once more, the star patterns gradually extinguishing.

He had once held great power, commanding respect from both the black and white factions of the city, with everyone speaking of him in fear and trepidation. He had also faced betrayal from his subordinates, enduring brutal experiments, ultimately becoming a pawn that was neither human nor ghost.

Now everything was over; dust to dust, regardless of wealth or poverty, the lowly or the powerful could all enjoy the peace granted by death.

·

In the upper room.

The place was a mess, scattered with traces of battle, many potions affected by the fight lay in shattered pieces.

A mutant’s corpse lay on the ground, bloodstained and marked with several wounds pierced by light.

Xiao Keyang leaned against a cabinet, steadying his breath; this was not his first battle with a mutant. In a place like Night, where warriors gathered, they often took the initiative to attack the territories of mutants, and many had died at his hands.

But this guy was the first to make him feel so troublesome, with several deep wounds on him, nearly touching vital areas.

Fortunately, in the end, he emerged victorious.

His gaze swept across this distinctly different potion room; after they entered, the attack came swiftly, and it was from a formidable opponent.

Did this mean this place was different from others?

Xiao Keyang’s eyes fell on a tall storage cabinet in the room, sturdy and intricate, clearly not meant for ordinary items.

And there was only one thing inside—a vial of red potion.

The potion was as red as if it had life, with golden flecks floating and shimmering within, looking strangely beautiful.

Chai Yige walked slowly from behind, looking much more disheveled than before, one arm missing, his face and body stained with blood, injuries and blood loss combined with exhaustion made him appear somewhat wilted.

But upon seeing the vial of potion, Chai Yige’s eyes suddenly brightened.

This was one of the golden fingers Xiao Keyang obtained in the original plot, a strengthening potion!

This potion was originally discovered by Xiao Keyang on a mutant’s corpse during a certain trial; since it was an unknown potion, he had no intention of using it.

After several life-threatening experiences, Xiao Keyang took the risk to inject it in a desperate situation, only to find that this potion directly activated his abilities, causing his combat power to soar, and he killed a large group of mutants that had surrounded him on the spot.

Unexpectedly, the plot had already been altered by Xiao Lu, and Xiao Keyang had not joined the White Dove, yet he still encountered this potion.

Xiao Keyang truly was the protagonist! The protagonist’s halo is no joke.

Chai Yige almost laughed out loud; once Xiao Keyang injected the potion, the golden thigh would become even thicker, and what would he have to worry about in the future? It was simply a guaranteed win!

“What are you laughing at?” Xiao Keyang suddenly asked.

Chai Yige naturally could not reveal that he knew the plot; he could only say, “I just have a feeling this is a good thing, very suitable for you.”

“Your feeling again?” Xiao Keyang looked at him, his tone gentle, but his eyes held a hint of subtle scrutiny.

This little follower of his seemed not simple; he appeared timid and weak, yet he always managed to make the right judgments at critical moments, almost like a prophet.

Chai Yige nodded.

“Since it’s a good thing, why not give it to you? Your injuries are quite serious; maybe it can help you feel better,” Xiao Keyang said.

“No, no, no.” Chai Yige quickly refused, “I can’t take it; giving something like this to me would be a waste. It can only be effective in your hands.”

“Oh?” Xiao Keyang raised an eyebrow slightly.

Here we go again; Chai Yige always inadvertently revealed a deep understanding of him, even more than Xiao Keyang understood himself.

To be honest, this feeling was quite uncomfortable.

This person seemed to want nothing, yet Xiao Keyang could never bring himself to trust him. Of course, he had never entrusted his trust to anyone, not to his mother who gave birth to him, nor to the brother who raised him.

However, every suggestion Chai Yige made was indeed beneficial to him.

Under Chai Yige’s eager gaze, Xiao Keyang broke open the cabinet door and took the potion.

·

“Wonderful performance.” Long Yao clapped his hands with a smile.

“Your turn.” Xiao Lu raised his hand, shooting a beam of light toward his head.

Long Yao’s smile did not fade; he stood there, not dodging or avoiding, allowing the light to approach him.

The light that could directly smash a zombie’s head collided with the glass, but it vanished without a trace, like a drop of water entering the sea.

“Hahaha… what an impatient child.”

Long Yao looked down at Xiao Lu: “How could I be unprepared? This is specially made glass for you; I used several ability users as materials.”

“Disgusting.” Huang Sansheng muttered under his breath.

Long Yao paid no mind to his curse, even observing Huang Sansheng with interest: “Your ability is quite interesting; perhaps it could be made into some kind of tool.”

Huang Sansheng instinctively shrank his neck but quickly stopped himself, raising his head again, reminding himself: No, I can’t show weakness.

Long Yao then turned to Ye Qi: “You’re not bad either; you managed to restrain Chen Yu. I’d like to study you properly.”

Ye Qi stared at him, indifferent as if he were just any passerby.

In the air, purple mist quietly spread.

The three, having already suffered once, thought to themselves that this was not good.

Last time, they had almost instantly lost consciousness due to the small size of the room; this time, the room was much larger, but the exit had been sealed, and staying any longer would only lead to trouble sooner or later.

Huang Sansheng threw a large stone at the sealed entrance, but the gate remained unmoved; he tried to shrink the gate but felt a repelling force.

Long Yao shook his head with amusement: “Useless, don’t waste your time.”

“Brother Lu, what do we do?” Huang Sansheng couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious.

Having seen the zombies along the way and the fate of Alice and her companions, he really did not want to be caught by this scientific madman in the starlight.

Xiao Lu quickly scanned the surroundings, leaving no gaps, and finally fixed his gaze back on Long Yao, whose tail was about to curl up: “Didn’t we say when we came here that we would blow his dog head off?”

Huang Sansheng nodded.

“Let’s go.” Xiao Lu signaled him to create an “elevator.”

“Are we really just going to go up like this?” Huang Sansheng was a bit confused, but he decisively took out the stone slab he was most comfortable with.

Activating his ability, the three of them stepped onto Huang Sansheng’s stone slab and quickly ascended.

Long Yao’s previously confident smile faded; this was an ability not recorded in the data.

Speaking of which, Xiao Lu and the others had once disappeared from the surveillance range for a period, and when they reappeared, they were already close to the elevator. Could that missing time be related to this sudden ability?

However, it was useless; this glass was made specifically to counter ability users. Among the three, the one with the strongest attack power was Xiao Lu, and if even he couldn’t break the glass, how could the other two?

As they approached the window, Xiao Lu spoke: “Ah Huang, did you ever throw stones at other people’s windows when you were a kid?”

Huang Sansheng shook his head: “No, my mom wouldn’t let me.”

Xiao Lu flexed his fingers: “Now you can experience it; use the secret weapon.”

With no way out below, but there must be one behind Long Yao. No matter how special the glass made to restrain him was, he still had two teammates.

No matter how special the glass was, wasn’t it still just glass?

The pistol Xiao Lu had taken from Liu Jiang appeared in Huang Sansheng’s hands, instantly growing to the size of a rocket launcher. Huang Sansheng held the gun, eager to try: “This is my first time smashing someone’s window.”

Xiao Lu acted like a doting parent: “Aim well; this is powerful, it’ll have a good effect.”

Ye Qi’s barrier appeared around Huang Sansheng, preventing the recoil from knocking him back, just like another doting parent.

Long Yao: “…”

Wait, things seemed to be developing differently from what he had planned.

Wasn’t this supposed to be a superpower battle? Why were you guys bringing out rocket launchers!!!
