HAGLTP Chapter 49

Ultimately, under Huo Lin’s unilateral announcement, the three-person team became a four-person team.

The dark-clad director of education walked alongside Xiao Lu, supervising, while two fully armed individuals trailed behind, looking as wilted as two salted fish sunbathing under the scorching sun for three days.

The director joining the team wasn’t entirely a bad thing.

Huo Lin’s ability had a strong offensive power; there were no particularly flashy effects, just a gentle lift of his hand could manipulate the surrounding air, silently and invisibly. When the target was unaware, he could complete the entire process from control to killing.

Of course, this discovery made Ai Zhenzhen and Hao Si tremble even more, as it also meant that their chances of escaping the clutches of this terrifying teacher were even lower.

Under Huo Lin’s lead, the four of them strolled leisurely towards the school exit, stopping by to have a meal in the territory of other ability users.

Ai Zhenzhen sat at the door holding a piece of bread, her face pale, as if she were eating a death sentence.

Hao Si secretly glanced back. There was a tightly closed door behind them, from which faint sounds of terrifying laughter could be heard.

Taking advantage of Huo Lin not being out yet, Ai Zhenzhen quietly said to Hao Si, “Don’t you think Teacher Huo looks really scary?”

Hao Si replied, “Isn’t that something everyone has known for a long time?”

Ai Zhenzhen said, “He seems even scarier than before.”

Hao Si remarked, “That’s normal; the longer the director of education stays in his position, the less human he becomes.”

Ai Zhenzhen rested her chin on her hand, “Still, Lu Ge is impressive.”

Hao Si nodded in agreement.

Inside the room.

Xiao Lu, who was being discussed by the two, was currently standing next to the big bad director of education.

In the corner lay an ability user who had just attempted to ambush them.

The guy who had arrogantly planned to kill them all was now bound by invisible air, unable to move, like a pig about to be slaughtered.

And Huo Lin wore a strange smile as he interrogated.

“Tell me, where are the hidden weapons?”

With his gloved fingertips, he held a sharp knife, skillfully gliding it across the man’s features, as if he would slice off a piece of flesh at any moment.

The man on the ground was sweating profusely, “Big brother, what you found is all there is; it’s the end of the world, no one has—”

Before he could finish, the cold blade had already traced down his jaw, pressing against his throat.

A drop of crimson appeared from the skin to the tip of the knife.

“W-what do you want…”

Huo Lin’s voice was filled with more amusement, “Do you know? I’m very good at using sharp things like this. There was once someone who stared at me for a whole month while I sliced ham, needing each slice to be as thin as a cicada’s wing.”

“Want to see? I think I’m still quite skilled, hehe…”

In the pitch-black room, his voice was low, mixed with a hint of mad laughter, like a pervert growing out of the night.

Huo Lin slightly turned his head to Xiao Lu and said, “My good student, go light a candle for me; this gentleman would prefer to see my skills clearly in the light.”

Xiao Lu silently turned to find a candle.

Sounds continued to come from behind.

“Ugh…”

“Shut up, your crying is too ugly; smile.”

“Heh… hehe…”

“What kind of expression is that? A salted fish dead for three days looks better when it smiles.”

“…”

“Not speaking? Are you trying to provoke me with silence?”

As Xiao Lu listened to these grotesque remarks, he pondered; wasn’t that ham he had previously experimented with?

Because the melons from the northwestern desert were particularly sweet, Xiao Lu had whimsically wanted to eat ham with melon. At that time, his cheap apprentice needed to practice swordsmanship, so he had instructed his apprentice to slice ham for him using the world’s top sword techniques.

His enthusiasm for ham and melon lasted about a month.

After lighting the candle, the director of education kindly directed him to move mirrors, fetch ropes, and draw water…

Xiao Lu: “…”

Sure enough, this guy was holding a grudge.

When Huo Lin and the others came out of the room, their equipment had once again been updated. Xiao Lu now wore a tactical vest and leather gloves, fully equipped with various combat gear.

In contrast, the two with pots and lids on their heads looked extremely shabby.

However, Ai Zhenzhen and Hao Si thought this was just fine.

If the price of changing equipment was to live under the devilish director of education’s watchful eye all day, they would rather carry pots for the rest of their lives.

Just as they stepped out of the school, the group stumbled into a thick fog.

The fog was excessively dense; standing at the school gate, they couldn’t see the shops just a few meters away, and looking up was just a vast expanse of white, creating a feeling of being tightly wrapped.

“Strange,” Ai Zhenzhen raised her pot lid, cautiously looking around.

Hao Si said, “The fog is this thick; why didn’t we see any mist inside the school? This isn’t scientific.”

While they were inside, they could still see the moonlight, but now they couldn’t even see a few meters above their heads. It was as if there was an invisible barrier separating the inside from the outside, dividing them into two worlds.

“Shh—” Xiao Lu suddenly signaled for them to be quiet.

The two covered their mouths, surveying their surroundings as if facing a great enemy. Just as they were puzzled, a huge shadow appeared in the fog.

Through the mist, they couldn’t see what it was.

But that thing was so tall, it seemed to have horns on its head, and below were four long, thin legs, moving slowly through the fog like a strange fortress.

Something that large should be quite heavy.

Yet they heard no footsteps and felt not a hint of movement.

None of them spoke, standing still as they waited for the massive shadow to pass.

“Ah—”

A sudden scream pierced through the fog.

It sounded like a man was wailing in agony, but the sound lasted only a brief moment, cutting off after half a second, followed by silence.

They couldn’t tell what had happened to him or what became of him afterward.

Ai Zhenzhen trembled at the sound, unable to help but raise her pot lid, covering her head like a thief.

Xiao Lu’s brow furrowed tightly; it seemed this fog was not just strange in appearance but also concealed deadly danger.

Seizing the opportunity, he asked Ivan, “In the storyline given by this world, it seems there’s no mention of this thing; is it a hidden plot?”

“Beep—querying.”

“Unknown error.”

“Danger level: high.”

This response made Xiao Lu’s heart sink slightly.

An unknown error—did that mean there was a malfunction in the world’s operation? The thing in the black fog seemed to be a monster far more formidable than what this world should have.

The emergence of a high-level existence was troubling, especially since he was just a holder of a trash ability.

Xiao Lu glanced at Huo Lin and noticed a contemplative expression on his face, somewhat unexpected, as if he were considering a way to take advantage of the chaos.

After waiting a while longer, the shadow finally disappeared from their line of sight, and they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Ai Zhenzhen seemed to want to say something.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed.

It sounded like leather shoes hitting the ground, hurriedly approaching them.

Moments later, a man in a suit appeared, handsome with sharp features, exuding an air of arrogance as if everything in the world was under his control.

The man also saw them.

He strode over, pointing at Xiao Lu, who was closest to him, “Hey, you, have you seen a woman with long black hair?”

This arrogant attitude was irritating, and Xiao Lu frowned, shaking his head.

The man stood before the four, arms crossed, revealing a smile that was one part cool, two parts reckless, and three parts proud: “I warn you, don’t try to play tricks; that’s my woman, and she can’t possibly escape. Tell me where she is? I’ll give ten thousand to whoever speaks up.”

Xiao Lu felt a strange sensation in his heart.

This statement sounded like something out of a legendary domineering CEO trope, the man radiating a glossy sheen, uttering lines that were off the charts in terms of embarrassment, as if his brain had crossed wires.

But isn’t this a post-apocalyptic novel? How could a domineering CEO appear? Especially one emerging from a strange white fog?

He cast a questioning glance at Huo Lin. But Huo Lin’s attention was entirely on the CEO, sizing him up as if he had discovered something amusing.

“Heh, not talking?” The CEO raised an eyebrow, revealing a disdainful smirk.

“Isn’t it just about wanting my money? Willing to speak gets you fifty thousand each. I advise you to be sensible and not challenge my bottom line.”

Xiao Lu replied, “Fifty thousand? Are you sweeping me, or am I sweeping you?”

The CEO frowned, “What?”

“You don’t even know about mobile payments, do you?” Xiao Lu observed his reaction.

“Mobile? That thing for making calls? To pay?” The CEO’s brow furrowed deeper, looking at Xiao Lu and the others with suspicion, as if he were looking at four lunatics who had escaped from a mental hospital.

Looking at these four, one in a suit, one in combat gear, and two actually wearing pots and lids, it was hard to see them as anything but abnormal.

The other party’s reaction confirmed Xiao Lu’s suspicions; this guy likely came from a world with a completely different worldview, at least with a technological level equivalent to over a decade ago in this world.

Why would such a person appear here?

“Forget it.” The domineering CEO showed no interest in probing the mental world of the four lunatics; he brought the topic back, “Tell me, where did that woman go? I can use a card or a check.”

No matter how the world changed, the CEO’s way of throwing money remained as straightforward as ever.

As he spoke, he prepared to grab Xiao Lu, “Tell—”

Huo Lin stepped forward, blocking his outstretched hand, wearing a sinister smile, and said in a mocking tone, “Sir, are your eyes just for decoration? Haven’t you noticed that there are no banks open nearby?”

The domineering CEO looked around in confusion.

Only then did he notice the thick fog surrounding them, and the entire street seemed devoid of anyone else besides him and these four lunatics, with no cars and not a sound to be heard.

This street was unfamiliar, lacking his familiar stretch limousines, his giant advertisements, and the logos of his family business that spanned over a hundred countries.

“Damn! What the hell is this place?”

The four looked at him, and no one was willing to answer.

“Zi Yan, where the hell are you? Come out!”

“You are mine, do you hear? You can’t escape!”

“Do you know you’re playing with fire…”

The domineering CEO completely ignored the oddities around him, continuing to spout embarrassing lines while searching for his Zi Yan in the depths of the fog, gradually disappearing from the group’s sight.

Soon, even his voice faded away.

Ai Zhenzhen rubbed her goosebumps, using the pot lid to cover half her face, and quietly said to Hao Si, “Is that the legendary domineering CEO? My toes are about to poke through my shoes.”

Hao Si adjusted his glasses, “Not necessarily; he might just be an ordinary lunatic. Look, he doesn’t even know about mobile payments.”

“That’s true…”
