TYMRHBDES Chapter 5

Outside the Huijin Tower, a black Rolls-Royce Cullinan pulled up steadily.

The assistant opened the car door and held an umbrella, his dark, hand-crafted leather shoes stepping onto the ground.

Fu Tingchuan exited the car, following his assistant into the CEO’s office.

Ten minutes later, his phone vibrated on the table.

Fu Tingchuan pressed the answer button, and a voice speaking impeccable Mandarin came through the line.

“Hello, sir. This is the top private detective from the agency you hired. We’ve received your request, and we’ll use this number to keep you informed.”

Meanwhile, Jiang Luoluo was playing with his phone, waiting for his stylist to finish doing his hair.

“Master Jiang, does it look good like this?”

The stylist brushed back a lock of hair that fell across his eyes. “Your face is truly one-of-a-kind, unmatched by celebrity clients we’ve had here. In fact, none of them even come close. Some stars can be picky about styling, but not you – anything looks great on you!”

Jiang Luoluo lifted his head to glance at himself in the mirror.

His fine, soft hair had been dyed a light blonde as he requested, with slight curls framing his eyes. As he moved his gaze, his clear blue eyes shimmered with an unwitting charm.

“Just trim it a notch shorter here,” Jiang Luoluo pointed at a loose strand that nearly touched his lashes when he lowered his head.

“Luoluo?”

A questioning male voice came from behind. Jiang Luoluo turned to meet the gaze of a young man.

He wore black pants with a simple white T-shirt. His shirt was casual, his smiling eyes looking at Jiang Luoluo through those gold-rimmed glasses.

Jiang Luoluo also smiled. “Long time no see, Xu Kai.”

“I didn’t expect you to remember me.” Xu Kai had a flattered look on his face.

Fortunately, he is good-looking, and this expression on his face is not annoying.

Jiang Luoluo grinned.

Xu Kai pulled out a business card from his pocket and handed it over. “It’s been so long since we last saw each other. You’re still unforgettable to me… The place where I work isn’t far from here. Why don’t we sit down and talk?”

The spa and shopping hadn’t even begun yet, and Jiang Luoluo initially wanted to refuse, but his eyes turned to that business card. “Sure, let’s talk.”

At the coffee shop, Jiang Luoluo stuck the straw into his matcha starbucks frappuccino and took a big gulp.

The thick iced drink flooded into his mouth. He tasted the green tea’s fragrance, milk’s richness, and cream’s sweetness. His eyes lit up as he took another sip.

Xu Kai stirred a cup of cold brew, his gaze fixed on Jiang Luoluo, surprise flickering in his eyes.

It had been two years, but Jiang Luoluo looked even better than before.

In high school, he’d been popular too, but there had been something tacky about him, like he’d been soaked in money’s stench. His good looks had carried an air of commonness.

But now, his face was full of life. His eyes were like a deer’s in the forest, bright and sly. Xu Kai knew Luoluo was here to talk to him for a reason, but it didn’t make him seem pushy or annoying at all.

Even an honor.

Jiang Luoluo finally tore his gaze from his matcha Frappuccino. “Xu Kai, I can’t believe you became a psychologist.”

That direct, huh?

Xu Kai raised his eyebrows, a twinkle of laughter in his eyes. “Yeah, my family is into that. I was interested too, so I studied it in college. Now it’s summer break, and I’m interning at a private clinic—practicing and learning.”

Jiang Luoluo let out a small, impressed sound. “Wow, you must be really powerful!”

The obvious flattery made Xu Kai’s eyes twinkle. “Well, if you test me, I might do even better.”

Jiang Luoluo’s eyes lit up. “Great! It just so happens that I’ve been reading a novel lately, and the main character has dual personalities. Can you help me figure out if the author knows what they’re writing nonsense…?”

After hearing Jiang Luoluo’s description, Xu Kai’s face showed a thoughtful smile. “It sounds quite well-researched. It doesn’t seem like the author is writing nonsense.”

Jiang Luoluo blinked rapidly, every cell in his body screaming, ‘ust tell me what you think!’

“We should test this theory,” Jiang Luoluo suggested. “You can do some research or read some relevant books, then we can compare our ideas.”

Dual personality disorder, also known as DID, is a type of personality disorder—on the milder side. It’s usually caused by traumatic events, poor environment, genetic factors, and the like. From your description, it sounds like these two personalities probably don’t know about each other.

“But with dual personality disorders, one of the personalities is often more extreme. That one can cause a lot of harm to society or the people around them.”

Jiang Luoluo nodded in agreement.

The tyrant Fu Tingchuan was definitely the dangerous one. Check out how much he enjoys tormenting others!

Xu Kai spoke with a clear message: “When dealing with patients like that, always prioritize your safety and leave as soon as you can.”

Jiang Luoluo’s head nodded like a little spring—’yes, of course he’d leave! As soon as the conquest was successful, he’d be the first one out the door!’

Xu Kai was very talkative and amusing. He could discuss everything from entertainment news to ghost stories, even delving into types of novels. Jiang Luoluo was thoroughly entertained, and before they knew it, the sky had darkened.

The wind picked up, and a light rain began to fall, showing signs of growing heavier.

Jiang Luoluo tilted his small head to look at the sky, and Xu Kai took the hint. “It’s getting late,” he said. “Let me drive you home.”

Jiang Luoluo waved him off. “No need. I have a driver. I’ll tell him to bring the car around.”

“I brought an umbrella though,” Xu Kai persisted. “Let me at least see you to it.”

A flash of lightning sliced through the gloomy sky, followed by a thunderclap. The drizzle turned into raindrops, pounding down from above.

Xu Kai held the umbrella, a gentleman to the end. He put his arm behind himself instead of casually draping it over Jiang Luoluo’s shoulder. The rain curtain outside was blocked from view, the drops sliding off the umbrella and splashing onto the ground below.

It was as if they were protected in their own little world.

Fu Tingchuan watched this scene unfold, his expression so grim it could have been carved from stone.

He rushed to the scene the moment he received the news, only to find his young wife seated before the coffee shop’s glass window. He was smiling sweetly at another man, around the same age as his.

They chattered away, their conversation stretching from the afternoon into the evening.

Is this the cheating bastard?

When he saw them finally emerge, holding an umbrella between them, he couldn’t hold back any longer.

Where are they off to?

Are they going to use this night of wild conversation and the gentle, passionate darkness as an excuse to do something even more extreme?

And then come back home covered in traces of their love-making?

The black umbrella opened a crack. Fu Tingchuan lifted his eyes, a flash of ruthless killer intent flashing through his gaze.

“Luoluo.”

Jiang Luoluo looked up to see Fu Tingchuan standing just a short distance away, watching him. The black umbrella and dark suit seemed to meld with the endless night behind him.

“Hey there, Fu Tingchuan~” Jiang Luoluo waved, his pale, smooth hand almost blinding in the darkness, like a beacon in the blackness.

Fu Tingchuan quickly strode forward, tilting the umbrella to shelter Jiang Luoluo beneath it. He placed his hand on Jiang Luoluo’s waist, pulling him close. The slanted umbrella shielded them completely as Fu Tingchuan said softly, “Your husband was so worried seeing you out so late. What’s got you out here?”

As he spoke, his cold eyes shifted to the umbrella across from him.

Xu Kai nodded toward him. “Hello, I’m Jiang Luoluo’s high school classmate, Xu Kai.”

The man under the black umbrella had a sharp gaze and a deep voice. “Pleased to meet you, Fu Tingchuan.”

“Looks like Fu Tingchuan is more protective than my Wi-Fi connection on a bad day! If you want me to keep translating faster than his mood swings, consider donating a coffee to my Ko-fi. I promise it’ll fuel me for more twists, turns, and unreasonably handsome men!”

Lol I knew he was going to jump to conclusions.

Uh, as someone with DID, the author is talking pure nonsense in this chapter. If you’re reading this, please do not take their words as fact.

First of all, DID (dissociative identity disorder) is not a personality disorder—it’s a dissociative disorder, which is literally in the name. Secondly, this disorder is not “on the mild side.” It is considered one of the most difficult disorders to identify and treat. Furthermore, it’s not caused by “genetic factors”, whatever the fuck that’s supposed to mean. It is the result of prolonged, serious physical, mental, and often sexual abuse during childhood. Lastly, there’s no such thing as “a personality that wants to destroy the world” in DID patients??? In fact, we are more likely to be victims of abuse in adulthood than to ever commit crimes, due to our joint history of severe abuse…

Please enjoy the novel (as I will), but understand that the author’s understanding of DID is incredibly shallow, and this interpretation of the condition is, frankly, pure imagination.

Novels are just fantasy most of the times. I have read more novels that have zero logics that may even say ‘the sun rise from west to the planet Earth.’ So… enjoy… 😊
