ATIGIBTC Chapter 29

«The birth of hot weapons»

He Fang’s eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn’t believe it—Min Zhizhou, the man who loved life, the sun, and beautiful women, had been brought to the police station by a police car. What kind of psychological transformation had he undergone to end up on this irreversible path?

“Min—Min Zhizhou…” He Fang stammered, unable to form a coherent sentence. Was he going to have to look for Min Zhizhou in the trash heap from now on? Or perhaps in prison? Wait, he hadn’t even built a prison yet—so where exactly were they supposed to put him?

Just as Min Zhizhou looked up, he locked eyes with He Fang. Seeing He Fang’s expression, which seemed to be filled with a mix of confusion and disbelief, he paused for a moment.

The two police officers standing next to Min Zhizhou were clearly surprised when they saw He Fang. Both of them stood up with great enthusiasm and saluted him.

However, He Fang completely ignored the two officers, treating them as mere background characters. His gaze remained fixed on Min Zhizhou.

The two officers exchanged a brief glance filled with jealousy toward Min Zhizhou, their faces darkening with subtle bitterness, their expressions almost vindictive. To He Fang, this was clearly the stern demeanor one would adopt toward a criminal.

Since entering the game, He Fang has interacted most frequently with Min Zhizhou. For a moment, he couldn’t accept this sudden shift in the plot and trembled as he spoke, “Did you… finally show your greedy nature? Have you finally made a move on the little nurse?”

Min Zhizhou: “…”

He Fang couldn’t help but feel a sense of betrayal. He had misjudged this NPC.

As he was filled with sorrow, He Fang opened Min Zhizhou’s control panel, only to be shocked to find a stat he never expected had skyrocketed.

On Min Zhizhou’s panel, his loyalty had surpassed one thousand.

He Fang was stunned. What had happened? Why had Min Zhizhou’s loyalty shot up so high? This should mean he was very loyal to the city, so why did he commit a crime?

“I’m a mercenary, not a criminal,” Min Zhizhou couldn’t help but clarify to He Fang. “I wasn’t arrested today. The police said they needed my help with something.”

“Ah…” He Fang finally snapped out of his daze, glancing at the two officers beside him, then looking down at Min Zhizhou’s free hands, belatedly realizing, “So you weren’t arrested after all?”

Min Zhizhou couldn’t quite tell if He Fang was relieved or disappointed, and asked, “Are you disappointed?”

“How could I be?” He Fang immediately brightened, slapping Min Zhizhou on the shoulder. “I knew there was no way, hehe.”

Min Zhizhou looked at He Fang with suspicion, eyeing him carefully.

“What does the police want with you?” He Fang asked, changing the subject.

“In the newly discovered ruins, we found weapons the city hasn’t encountered before.” A deep, resonant male voice suddenly came from behind He Fang.

He Fang turned around, but the towering shadow that fell from above made him instinctively take two steps back, feeling slightly oppressed by the stranger’s imposing form.

So tall, so muscular.

He had thought Min Zhizhou was already tall and muscular, but now he felt Min Zhizhou was like a small fry compared to this person.

The person in front of him seemed very familiar, but He Fang couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before. The man bowed and introduced himself, “Greetings, City Lord. I am the Director of the Security Bureau, Qi Jingwei.”

He Fang suddenly realized where he recognized the man from—it was the police chief he had seen during the Nightmare Beast attack, only now the perspective had shifted from looking down on him to looking up, which had made it hard for him to recognize the person earlier.

Qi Jingwei was tall and muscular, his black police uniform stretched tightly over his broad shoulders and bulging muscles. He Fang had seen him in the camera footage before and thought he looked larger than others. But now, standing face-to-face, he could truly feel the difference in size.

“Hello,” He Fang greeted, feeling the heavy sense of pressure emanating from Qi Jingwei. If this weren’t an NPC, He Fang thought he probably wouldn’t have the courage to speak to someone like him in real life.

With a bit of nervousness, He Fang opened Qi Jingwei’s panel. After seeing the loyalty stat nearing ten thousand, he relaxed a little.

Sensing He Fang’s apprehension, Qi Jingwei chuckled loudly, not bothering to hide the oppressive aura he gave off. “Although we can use weapons, we don’t know much about the old city’s weaponry. Just to be safe, we called Min Zhizhou to help us understand the characteristics of these weapons.”

He Fang’s eyes lit up. “Are they guns?”

“Ah, so it’s guns? The power of those things… interesting.” Qi Jingwei turned around and cleared a path. “Since you’re here, come on in. It seems like our City Lord has some interest in guns.”

He Fang touched his nose, uncertain if Qi Jingwei had genuinely guessed his curiosity about guns or if it was just an NPC’s line.

Since his city of twenty thousand people was already taking shape, He Fang hadn’t just set up one police station. Instead, he had established a central bureau and several district branches, managing the city by zones. This here was the central police station.

He Fang had never entered a police station before, so he wasn’t sure how the district branches looked. But here, everyone was in black uniforms, their expressions serious. Everything seemed organized and efficient. The offices appeared slightly messy, yet there was an underlying sense of order amid the chaos.

He Fang’s eyes wandered around. The women in the police station all had a sharp and confident air about them. No one in the station could afford to slack off.

However, after He Fang left…

All the tense officers suddenly deflated. The men, who had been serious just moments ago, now slouched, adopting casual, almost swaggering postures. Their previously stern faces revealed a hint of fierceness, their usual composure lost.

The elegant female officers narrowed their eyes, their sharp gazes cutting through the male officers. “Tighten up your expressions, all of you. Before the Creator leaves, maintain your image. I’ve heard that in the Creator’s world, the police station represents justice and moral standards—not your behavior.”

The male officer in black scoffed. “You’ve said that so many times already. Don’t worry, we won’t scare our adorable little Creator.”

Hearing the male officer’s description of He Fang, the female officer furrowed her brow, about to retort. But she found she couldn’t really argue, because she felt the same way.

“Did you get a good look at him?” An officer in the corner, who hadn’t seen He Fang’s face, asked as he sat in front of the male officer.

“What does he look like?”

“He’s the type that would cry if you bullied him.” The male officer couldn’t help but squint and laugh lightly, his fingers subconsciously brushing over his lips. “His skin looks so… biteable.”

“Like snow pear and grapes.”

“Hmm,” the male officer thought for a moment. “More like lychee.”

“Ah, isn’t that too sweet?” the officer sitting down suddenly chuckled.

“Of course not. He just looks like the right kind of sweetness.” The male officer couldn’t resist teasing, “It’s like he fits everyone’s taste.”

At that moment, the female officer couldn’t hold herself back any longer and slammed the folder in her hand onto the male officer’s face. “Show some respect for the Creator!”

“I respect the Creator very much, or else how could I have such a high opinion of a random passerby?” The male officer grinned as he took the folder and placed it back neatly on the desk in front of the female officer.

“Yeah, you’re right. Just looking at the Creator’s back, I already felt protective. He looks so delicate, like he could easily be bullied. It makes you want to cherish him.” The officer sitting at the desk agreed.

His words resonated with everyone around. They couldn’t help but laugh, each of them holding onto their own little thoughts of how they had felt when they first saw the Creator.

The female officer sat back down, frustrated. She didn’t usually like cute things, but after meeting the Creator, she realized what an exception that was.

She couldn’t precisely rebut her teasing colleagues. Damn it.

He Fang was walking along when, for some inexplicable reason, he shuddered and hugged his shoulders, trembling slightly.

Qi Jingwei noticed and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing, just felt like the temperature in the police station is a bit low,” He Fang adjusted his collar.

Without a word, Qi Jingwei unbuttoned his coat, revealing his white shirt underneath. He immediately draped the large coat over He Fang’s shoulders. His actions were almost paternal, like taking care of a young child.

At the moment when Qi Jingwei’s massive coat enveloped him, He Fang felt as though a giant cage had descended from the sky. The coat, which was already oversized on Qi Jingwei, was even larger on He Fang, reaching all the way to his thighs. The immense difference in size left He Fang in awe.

“There are a lot of strong, young men here. When they gather together, it gets too hot and irritating, so we keep the central air conditioning low,” Qi Jingwei glanced down at He Fang with a smirk. “It looks like, City Lord, you might need to work out more.”

He Fang: “…”

He was a recluse, hardly ever leaving his house.

Was he supposed to buy a treadmill to exercise?

The downstairs would be up in arms.

His in-game appearance and physique mirrored his real-life self.

If he were to comment, it was that Qi Jingwei’s physique was too muscular. There were barely any people like him in reality—this was just a game setting.

After entering the area, Min Zhizhou had been highly cautious around Qi Jingwei. Ever since stepping in, he felt uncomfortable, as if he had entered the cage of a monster. Every step was incredibly hard, as though beasts were lurking in all directions, waiting for the right moment to take him down. It felt as though he was standing on the edge of darkness, with dangers closing in.

“We’re here,” Qi Jingwei’s voice echoed. The doors in front of them opened. He Fang squinted, adjusting to the shift in light, finally able to make sense of what lay before him.

At that moment, his gaze met a pair of eyes—pitch black, like a starless night, like a bottomless, muddy abyss that seemed to stretch endlessly. He was sucked into an infinite void.

It was a man, his figure wrapped in a pure black uniform that showcased his perfect physique. A slim waist, broad shoulders, and long legs stood out, every button of his uniform impeccably fastened. He wore a police cap, the brim tilted, with messy dark hair peeking out from under it. His skin was pale and his face was tough and striking, with sharp lines that radiated aggression. A light-colored, well-shaped mouth held a lollipop.

A lollipop.

He Fang furrowed his brow. The man’s features were sharp and his demeanor exuded arrogance, as if he had no regard for anyone. He looked as though he should be holding a cigarette, not a lollipop.

Suddenly, He Fang remembered that, due to personal preferences, he hadn’t included cigarettes in the city. So, the cool-looking man who should’ve been holding a cigarette was instead holding a lollipop.

The unexpected sight of the lollipop somehow reduced He Fang’s sense of shock.

“This is our police station’s best officer,” Qi Jingwei took a few steps forward and introduced him. “His name is Chong Xiao.”

To He Fang’s surprise, the man didn’t salute him.

Opening the attributes panel, He Fang was stunned by Chong Xiao’s incredibly high stats. Even Qi Jingwei couldn’t compare. This was the strongest set of stats He Fang had ever seen, even stronger than Min Zhizhou’s by a large margin.

But what made He Fang even more uneasy was that, despite these terrifyingly high attributes, Chong Xiao’s loyalty was shockingly low—only 600.

Such a low loyalty rating, while still above 100% and ensuring no disloyalty to the city, seemed concerning. Even Min Zhizhou had a loyalty of 1000, so how did Chong Xiao end up with such a low loyalty score?

When Chong Xiao’s pitch-black pupils met He Fang’s gaze, it was as if a grain of sand had suddenly dropped into the still, dead silence of an abyss, sending ripples across the surface, reflecting a fleeting gleam of light. Unconsciously, he crushed the lollipop between his teeth, stood up, and took a step forward, as though he intended to walk over to He Fang.

“Is it really the City Lord?” A surprised voice suddenly called out from behind He Fang. He immediately turned around to see a young man.

The young man was wearing the standard black police uniform, but his body was lean and youthful, with a slightly immature face. His black hair was pressed under the brim of his cap. At first glance, he resembled Chong Xiao. However, his features were not as sharp and intimidating as Chong Xiao’s; instead, they were softer and more endearing, like a younger version of Chong Xiao.

As the young man moved, it was as though he was accompanied by the wind, vibrant and lively. Even in the darkness, he seemed to be radiating light, making him stand out.

He Fang quickly opened the young man’s attribute panel, immediately focusing on the loyalty stat. Seeing the glaring 6000, he felt reassured. Just as he was about to look at the other stats, a huge hug came from the front.

“I’ve finally met the City Lord! I’ve always wanted to meet you!” The young man hugged He Fang so suddenly that He Fang was caught off guard. He didn’t even notice that his attribute panel had disappeared. Though the young man was slender, he wasn’t soft. The hug made He Fang feel as though he was being enclosed within his embrace. It was only then that He Fang realized that despite the young man’s appearance, he actually stood at an adult’s height, though he was a little on the thinner side.

The young man smelled sweet, like some kind of fruit candy. As He Fang inhaled the scent, the young man rubbed his face against He Fang’s neck, sniffing the scent as well.

“It smells sweet, like my favorite milk candy, but there’s also a strange smell, like a dirty shirt that some old man hasn’t washed in three days,” the young man said, glancing down at the uniform coat He Fang was wearing.

“Little brat!” Qi Jingwei growled, yanking the young man’s collar and pulling him back, forcefully separating him from He Fang. The young man, with a face full of reluctance, stared at He Fang with wide, captivating eyes, as if ready to pounce at any moment. Qi Jingwei sighed and said, “This is Chong Ying, Chong Xiao’s younger brother.”

“Oh.” No wonder they looked so alike.

“The milk candy City Lord,” Chong Ying tried to pounce again but was firmly pressed down by Qi Jingwei.

“Salute.”

Out of respect for Qi Jingwei’s authority, Chong Ying reluctantly gave a salute.

Behind He Fang, where he couldn’t see, Chong Xiao also gave a silent salute to He Fang.

From Qi Jingwei, He Fang learned that the two brothers were the best officers in the police station, with Chong Xiao specializing in close combat and Chong Ying being an expert with ranged weapons.

“What kind of ranged weapons?” He Fang asked curiously. Hadn’t guns just appeared?

“I excel at throwing knives, lead balls, playing cards, stones—anything that can be thrown,” Chong Ying was eager to strike up a conversation with He Fang, brimming with energy.

Qi Jingwei gestured to Min Zhizhou, who was standing behind He Fang. “This is the person I brought, Min Zhizhou, from outside the city. You should have met him during the last battle with the Nightmare Beast.”

“Oh, you’re here,” Chong Ying didn’t overlook Min Zhizhou’s presence. He had already been paying attention to the humble man from the beginning, always keeping an eye on his movements. “About the weapons we just acquired, we need to consult with you. Wait, I’ll go get the weapons.”

During this break, He Fang glanced over at Chong Xiao, who was sitting in the corner and blending with the darkness. For some reason, He Fang felt that Chong Xiao’s gaze hadn’t left him for a second. There was no malice in it, but it still made He Fang feel a little uncomfortable. The man didn’t even try to hide it.

He Fang absentmindedly touched his neck, wondering if he had experienced several deaths in Chong Xiao’s mind. This person didn’t seem like someone who would engage in casual conversation with strangers.

When Chong Ying returned with the weapons, He Fang saw, for the first time in his city, a real firearm.

This was the first firearm in his city—a monumental step forward, a revolutionary development. He Fang was unexpectedly moved, almost on the verge of tears.

Though he hadn’t studied firearms in-depth, He Fang had played enough games with realistic weaponry to recognize many gun models. But the firearm before him was completely unfamiliar, something he had never seen in any game.

The firearm was entirely jet black. Its overall weight was considerable. In Chong Ying’s hands, it appeared too massive, resembling more of a medium-sized destructive weapon than a typical gun.

“It’s rare to see one so well-preserved. Was it found in a sealed cavity within the city?” At that moment, Min Zhizhou stepped forward. He took the weapon from Chong Ying’s hands, inspected it for a moment, and then spoke. “This should be an early weapon designed to combat the Nightmare Beasts. It wasn’t useful at the time and was eventually repurposed as a weapon to threaten humans. It’s highly lethal to humans, and it’s already quite an old weapon.”

“How do you use it?” Chong Ying asked.

“This weapon was primarily designed for ultra-long-range, large-scale destruction of Nightmare Beast seeds. If used directly, it could cause harm to the body.” Min Zhizhou paused as he suddenly thought about the strange physical constitution of the people in this city. He swallowed the rest of his words. “Do you have a laboratory where we can experiment with the weapon? A place that’s relatively resistant to damage?”

“Here.” Qi Jingwei, arms crossed and with a stubbled chin, pointed towards the spacious, well-lit room. “This area is tough enough. You can use it here.”

“Given the weapon’s nature, it might cause significant splattering. A closed space like this could be unsafe,” Min Zhizhou tried to warn them of the potential danger of the firearm.

Qi Jingwei thought for a moment, then stood in front of He Fang. His tall, muscular build completely blocked the slender He Fang from view. “It’s fine now.”

Min Zhizhou took a deep breath. Looking around the large room, he knew that the officers in the police station were bold and fearless, not intimidated by firearms. From their appearance, it was clear they didn’t have much understanding of such weapons. It seemed that a demonstration would be necessary to help them grasp the true danger of firearms.

Min Zhizhou thought for a moment, then turned to He Fang and said, “City Lord, please cover your ears.”

He Fang was momentarily stunned. Though he had never truly handled a firearm, he knew that guns were loud. He obediently covered his ears.

Min Zhizhou looked at the other three, who made no attempt to defend themselves, and sighed. The gun in his hand was a poor-quality, outdated product. After being left unused for such a long time, he wasn’t sure if it would still work. Just to be safe, Min Zhizhou distanced himself from the others, positioning himself in the center of the large room.

He aimed the firearm at the farthest corner, minimizing the risk of ricochet harming those around him. He checked the ammunition in the gun; there were twelve chambers in total, but only eleven rounds of ammunition—had one been taken for research?

Min Zhizhou crouched slightly. Although it was a firearm, it was designed more like an artillery weapon against the Nightmare Beasts. He adjusted his posture to make it more resistant to the gun’s massive recoil, pressing his entire shoulder into the stock to ensure accuracy. He used all his strength to stabilize the weapon, leaving only one hand to control the trigger.

As an early weapon developed for the Nightmare Beasts, it had many flaws. Using just one part of the body to fire would easily lead to fractures. It required some training to minimize bodily damage after firing all twelve rounds.

Min Zhizhou had never used this weapon before, but he understood how it worked. He clenched his jaw, tensed his body, and aimed forward, pulling the trigger.

He Fang watched Min Zhizhou’s movements, thinking that rather than Min Zhizhou using the weapon, it seemed more like the weapon was controlling him. His posture appeared to be entirely for the gun’s recoil.

When the gun fired with a deafening noise, Min Zhizhou felt his body go numb from the massive recoil. Luckily, he had prepared himself, or he might have been injured. After all, it was an early, low-quality product. It was exhausting to use.

But when he noticed the wall ahead, Min Zhizhou’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Despite the firearm’s numerous shortcomings, it still had tremendous firepower. Yet, even with such power, it left no trace on the wall.

Was this small training room within the city already reinforced to the point of rivaling the exterior walls of a small mobile city?

“As expected, this is how it’s used. I didn’t make any mistakes,” Chong Ying’s youthful voice sounded from the side.

“I just had him confirm it,” Qi Jingwei said.

“But looking at his posture, is it to mitigate the reverse force when firing?” Chong Ying’s eyes, still a bit naïve, studied Min Zhizhou’s stance before walking over and mimicking it in curiosity.

“It’s to stabilize the gun and adjust aim. The gun’s massive recoil can easily injure the shooter,” Min Zhizhou explained.

“If you don’t want to get hurt, does it matter what posture you use?” Chong Ying asked seriously, nodding thoughtfully.

“Yes,” Min Zhizhou replied, looking at the young man. Something about his question stirred an odd, subtle suspicion in Min Zhizhou’s mind. He remembered the missing round in the chamber and what the young man had just said, so he tentatively asked, “Have you used it already?”

“Ah, yes, because I was curious,” Chong Ying casually admitted.

The nonchalant tone in Chong Ying’s voice sent a chill of unease through Min Zhizhou.

Chong Ying seemed oblivious to Min Zhizhou’s reaction, his bright eyes immediately shifting to He Fang. He ran over to He Fang’s side, eagerly grabbing his hand. “City Master, this is so interesting! You don’t need any skill to shoot at long distances. The power’s not great, but we can send it to the research lab and see if they can make something easier to use. That way, our city’s defenses could improve a little. What do you think, huh? Please?”

However, He Fang could hear nothing but a high-pitched ringing in his ears.

Although he had covered his ears as Min Zhizhou had instructed, the gunshot’s immense sound nearly shattered his eardrums. At that moment, He Fang felt like his head might explode from the sheer volume of the enormous noise reverberating through his skull.

In front of him, the power of the gun and the scattered projectiles struck the wall forcefully, with many bouncing back.

He Fang felt his head throb with a buzzing sensation.

This is an early weapon designed for the Nightmare Beasts, essentially an enhanced long-range grenade launcher. Such firepower was already present in the early stages?

He had originally thought the world’s development would be similar to modern technological progress. But now, it seemed like the game’s background setting of “Ruins Without Restart” might actually be set in a future with extremely advanced technology.

“City Lord, are you okay?” Chong Ying noticed He Fang’s condition and immediately asked with concern. At the same time, Chong Xiao, who had been silently observing from the side, reflected He Fang’s silhouette in his dark pupils. His hand twitched slightly, seemingly wanting to take action.

“It seems a little better,” He Fang muttered. His eardrums ached from the reverberating sound in the large space. For a moment, he genuinely thought he might have gone deaf. He looked at Min Zhizhou in disbelief. “You use this thing against people?”

Min Zhizhou stood up, still feeling the numbness in his body, and gave a wry smile. “Since it didn’t work on the Nightmare Beasts, it can only be used against humans.”

He Fang was shocked. “Then… the weapons outside the city… have they already developed to such a terrifying degree? And why are you still using that glowing toy?”

“Because it’s a weapon for the Nightmare Beasts,” Min Zhizhou replied. “So far, we haven’t found a suitable weapon for the Nightmare Beasts. But if we’re talking about weapon development, at least this firearm has already been abandoned.”

He Fang gasped.

What kind of worldview is this? At first, he had thought he could invade other cities!

“Why didn’t you clarify this earlier?” He Fang was almost frantic. If it weren’t for this incident with the police station, would he have foolishly gone out and confronted others head-on? Was he trying to get himself killed?

“Because the focus was always on the Nightmare Beast seeds,” Min Zhizhou said, looking confused at He Fang’s anxious expression.

“Ah, ah, ah, I almost went and invaded! I really wanted to invade other cities! I was so reckless, I’m so shameless!” He Fang grabbed his hair, filled with regret.

Chong Ying, who had been sneaking around He Fang’s side, immediately hugged him in comfort when he saw how distraught He Fang looked. “City Lord, don’t worry, don’t worry! That thing is just for show, it doesn’t work at all.”

“It doesn’t work? You call that ‘not working’?” He Fang stared wide-eyed, shocked, pointing at the firearm. “If I had been down there, forget being shattered, I’d probably have had my soul scattered.”

“Oh, City Lord, you’re just joking, right? How could it hurt you?” Chong Ying’s childish face smiled brightly, not taking the weapon seriously at all, his eyes filled with affection. “City Lord, you really care for us and even know how to make us laugh. I really like you so much!”

“What is this?” He Fang was bewildered. Was he really trying to make a joke?

“This thing didn’t even break my brother’s skin, how could it have any effect?” Chong Ying grinned, showing off his cute little tiger teeth.

He Fang: “…”

Min Zhizhou: “…”

“You used this thing on your brother?” He Fang was in total shock. “You really fired it?”

Min Zhizhou’s eyes nearly popped out of his head, staring in disbelief at the man in black police attire who had said not a word the whole time. Had this person really been hit by the weapon? Was he alright? Was he dreaming?

“Ah,” Chong Ying seemed to sense He Fang’s shock and looked at him, then at Min Zhizhou. “Well, if you’re really curious, we can try again and let the City Lord see. We still have plenty of ammunition.”

“Wait, wait, don’t do this, no!” He Fang, stunned by the shock, rushed to stop Chong Ying from reaching the weapon. But despite Chong Ying being just a young boy, He Fang couldn’t move him. In a panic, he immediately sought help from Qi Jingwei. “Director, Director, please stop him!”

However, Qi Jingwei only laughed heartily, his laughter loud and clear, with no hint of tension. “It’s fine, City Lord. It’s our duty to show you our results. As long as it’s for you, I believe Chong Xiao wouldn’t mind.”

“No, this is no joke! Someone could get hurt! Can’t we find a safer way to test it? Why go straight to human testing?” He Fang’s mind was still filled with the immense firepower of the weapon.

“It’s fine, it’s fine. Even if someone does get hurt, just take him to the hospital. It’ll be fine,” Chong Ying said, still holding the firearm, even though He Fang was trying to stop him.

Min Zhizhou watched as the firearm seemed as light as a feather in Chong Ying’s hands. At first, Chong Ying had been holding the massive weapon with both hands, so Min Zhizhou did not react. But now his mind was filled with shock.

When he saw the young boy effortlessly lift the firearm with one hand, aiming it at the quiet, silent man who had remained still all this time, there were no words left to describe how Min felt.

“No, no, really, it’s not necessary, I’m not curious, not at all, I really…” He Fang stammered, his voice filled with terror. He was furious with himself for what he had just said, desperately tugging at Chong Ying’s unmoving hand.

This was a man with extremely low loyalty. Qi Jingwei had even said he was the strongest in the city. If he were shot and miraculously unharmed, but later harbored resentment and betrayal, what would happen? Would his own character be able to survive an encounter with Chong Xiao? He feared he might become the first player to cause a ruined city due to character death.

“It’s fine, City Lord,” Chong Ying said, his youthful face now carrying an air of seriousness. “If we can’t even manage this, how can we protect you?”

The deafening sound of gunfire once again pierced He Fang’s eardrum after Chong Ying pulled the trigger. This time, He Fang hadn’t covered his ears in time. He felt as though his brain was going to explode, his vision went white, and he lost his strength to keep pulling, standing dazed for a while.

“Look, City Lord, look at my brother! See, doesn’t it seem like just a toy?” Chong Ying’s youthful voice finally broke through the ringing in He Fang’s ears.

After regaining his senses with great effort, He Fang looked over at Chong Xiao, his face full of fear.

The man, dressed entirely in black, sat calmly in his previous position. His clothes, which had been neatly arranged, now showed a few wrinkles, and there were some smudges on his cheeks. Yet his deep black eyes remained unchanged, without the slightest ripple. His cold, solemn face was completely indifferent to the gunfire that had just occurred, the sharp lines of his face as unyielding as before, as if made of iron, unmovable.

His black hair swayed slightly. His dark eyes, hidden beneath the black strands, locked with He Fang’s.

It was as though he was silently asking He Fang whether he was satisfied with the result.
