Chapter 20
Chi Suinian started regretting meddling in someone else’s business.
The reason was that Lu Zhiyue got drunk and started acting out.
Chi Suinian had never been close enough to drink with Lu Zhiyue before, so he didn’t know his alcohol tolerance was so ridiculously low. There wasn’t even a hint of alcohol on him, yet he kept complaining about a headache, saying he couldn’t stand or walk properly, and insisted on being carried around like a limp sack of potatoes.
To make things worse, he didn’t keep his mouth shut. Whatever you asked, he answered, and his logic was clearer than usual.
If it weren’t for the fact that Lu Zhiyue nearly tripped when entering the house, Chi Suinian would have suspected he was faking it to mess with people.
It was already past midnight, and the villa was empty.
Chi Suinian originally wanted to call Uncle Zhang or one of the helpers to drag Lu Zhiyue upstairs to sleep it off. But a glance at the empty living room on the left and the quiet kitchen on the right told him that wasn’t happening.
It was the middle of the night—he couldn’t very well wake someone up. With a dark expression, he had no choice but to toss Lu Zhiyue into the guest room.
The guest room wasn’t large. The bed had two round, puffy pillows propped against the headboard. Lu Zhiyue sat leaning on them, his eyes half-open as he stared toward the foot of the bed. His gaze was calm and sober, with no trace of drunkenness.
Having barely walked all night, he probably thought he’d gotten off easy. When he lifted his gaze toward Chi Suinian, there was even a hint of a smile in his eyes.
Chi Suinian clicked his tongue.
He was starting to wonder—was this guy really drunk?
“What are you smiling about?” Chi Suinian asked.
“Hm?” Lu Zhiyue touched his face. “I’m smiling?”
“…”
Smiling like a damn fool.
Lu Zhiyue seemed to catch onto his expression and propped himself up slightly on his elbows. “I feel a little hot.”
Chi Suinian thought, How is that my problem? Overheat if you want.
But when he glanced up, he saw Lu Zhiyue staring at him intently, his elbows still propped up as if waiting for him to do something.
Dragging Lu Zhiyue back here was already above and beyond.
At least it justified the two-billion-dollar loan.
Chi Suinian turned to leave, but just as he did, the man on the bed said, “Can you help me up? I can’t get up on my own.”
“…”
Chi Suinian was so infuriated he felt like his head might explode. He was at a loss for words.
When Lu Zhiyue didn’t get the human crutch he was asking for, he simply blinked slowly and propped himself up into a sitting position.
Since he was still drunk, his movements weren’t very coordinated—it was like watching someone rise from the dead. And just as he moved, his face went even paler.
Chi Suinian observed coldly from the sidelines. Couldn’t he stand up just fine on his own?
But the next moment, he was proven wrong.
Lu Zhiyue, useless as ever, managed to trip over his own feet as soon as he got out of bed, stumbling and crashing headfirst into the soft sofa by the wall.
He tried to struggle to his feet but failed.
“…”
So weak.
Chi Suinian had never seen anything like it.
With a deep sigh of irritation, he stomped over to yank Lu Zhiyue upright. Despite the scowl on his face, his movements weren’t rough, and Lu Zhiyue didn’t feel any pain.
“Where are you going?”
Lu Zhiyue lifted the corners of his lips faintly and said, “To shower.”
Chi Suinian dragged him into the bathroom like he was hauling a sack of rice.
The villa must have cost a fortune to renovate. Each room’s bathroom was spacious, equipped with both a bathtub and a shower, with separate wet and dry areas. There was even enough extra space to fit twenty people.
Chi Suinian stood in the middle of the bathroom, holding onto Lu Zhiyue. The mirror above the sink reflected his cold profile, while Lu Zhiyue trailed behind him step for step.
“Go on, shower…” Chi Suinian let go after completing his “mission,” thinking that at least in the bathroom, Lu Zhiyue couldn’t fall again.
Then he turned his head and saw the man leaning weakly against the wall.
“…”
What the hell did you drink—muscle relaxant?
“Sorry, I really don’t have the strength,” Lu Zhiyue said, standing up with some difficulty and frowning deeply. “You don’t have to worry about me. I can manage on my own.”
Chi Suinian thought, Only an idiot would worry about you. Then he stormed out with a stony expression, slamming the door behind him.
The sound of the door slamming was loud.
Lu Zhiyue stood still for a moment, his posture unchanged, leaning bonelessly against the wall. He couldn’t help but lower his head and chuckle twice.
The suppressed sound stayed in his throat and didn’t travel far.
Lu Zhiyue realized he really did enjoy seeing Chi Suinian’s cold face. It wasn’t that he was some kind of masochist—it was just that, for months, Chi Suinian had been like a pool of stagnant water, making people wonder if he’d ever wake up again. Now, his fiery reactions, like sparks flying and explosions at the drop of a hat, made him seem all the more precious.
So vivid, so alive—it was almost irresistible.
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Lu Zhiyue enjoyed provoking Chi Suinian, finding joy in watching him frown and get frustrated. Though soothing him afterward was no small task, the process made him happy—he’d even take a punch with a smile. What a freak.
It had been over a month since Chi Suinian woke up, and their relationship hadn’t progressed at all. The intricate web of lies Lu Zhiyue had woven felt like it was on the verge of collapse, and he was always afraid the truth would come out before he got what he wanted.
Footsteps echoed outside, steady and deliberate. Lu Zhiyue wiped the smile from his face and returned to his drunken, half-dead demeanor.
“Click!”
The door was shoved open.
As expected, Chi Suinian came back.
Lu Zhiyue was still leaning against the wall, his black suit jacket tossed on the floor, and his hands raised as he struggled with the buttons on his shirt.
Probably dizzy from the alcohol, he fumbled with no sense of direction, tugging at the buttons but failing to undo them. Instead, he staggered twice, bumping his waist hard against the edge of the sink.
Lu Zhiyue: “…”
Tsk.
Chi Suinian was just watching the show when the performer suddenly lifted his eyes and looked at him. Hands hanging loosely by his sides, his gaze clearly asked for help.
Was this jerk expecting him to help undress him?
Chi Suinian’s gaze dropped.
Lu Zhiyue’s shirt was already crumpled, with two buttons undone at the chest. Through the gap, a few taut, defined muscles peeked out.
Chi Suinian’s face remained expressionless as he thought, This office guy, as weak as he is, somehow has abs?
Must be painted on.
Sensing his gaze, Lu Zhiyue glanced down. “Staring for so long—if you like it, you can touch.”
Caught red-handed, Chi Suinian stayed calm. He even sneered coldly, “Skinny like a chicken, what’s there to look at?”
For most men, that would’ve been a direct challenge and insult. But Lu Zhiyue only chuckled lightly. “If you’re not sure, why don’t you come check for yourself?”
“…”
He must have been out of his mind to stand here exchanging innuendos with Lu Zhiyue in a bathroom.
After being drenched in cold water, Chi Suinian’s back felt terribly cold. He worried that his frail body might get sick. He slammed the door shut and went back to his room to take a hot bath.
When he came out, his anger hadn’t subsided, and he couldn’t fall asleep. The phone by the bed kept ringing.
In the dead of night, Chi Suinian’s irritation was even worse than his usual morning grumpiness: “What is it?”
Sigh…
Tang Jin took a breath like he was in pain, hesitating before saying, “Well, I just wanted to ask if you’re asleep yet.”
“…”
Calling someone in the middle of the night just to ask if they’re asleep. Kid, you’re a genius.
Tang Jin probably realized how inappropriate his question was. After hesitating for a while, he said, “You’re sleeping alone, right?”
Chi Suinian: “Can I sleep with half a person?”
“Oh, haha, then it’s fine, haha, never mind, I don’t have anything else to say.” Tang Jin awkwardly laughed and stammered a bit.
Chi Suinian, annoyed, said, “If there’s nothing else, hang up.”
“Wait! Hold on, hold on…” Tang Jin hurriedly said, “There’s one more thing…”
“Say it.”
“It’s just, if… I mean, if, okay?” Tang Jin asked, “If your best friend, of course, this isn’t me, just hypothetically, if your best friend was forced to lie to you because of some unavoidable reason, would you forgive them?”
Chi Suinian narrowed his eyes sharply: “What have you been hiding from me?”
Tang Jin: “…”
“I said it’s just hypothetical.”
“Then why even bring it up if you haven’t done anything wrong?” Chi Suinian furrowed his brow and asked, “Spill it.”
“I really didn’t do anything…” Tang Jin mumbled, “It’s just a random thought experiment, just answer me first.”
There was a rustling sound from the other end of the phone, like a phone rubbing against something.
Then, Chi Suinian heard a few quiet voices, whispering:
“Damn, what are you grabbing for? I’m just asking!”
“Do you have a brain? Don’t ask so bluntly, use some common sense!”
“Are you so capable? Let’s see how many words you can get out.”
Chi Suinian: “…”
He recognized the voices on the other end—his two somewhat dim-witted brothers.
“Ahem, Suinian, it’s Lu Heng…”
The two of them were probably playing some silly game of trying to sneak away. Chi Suinian had no mood to entertain them, so he hung up directly.
What kind of nonsense was this?
After all the trouble that night, his throat was terribly dry.
He was just about to go downstairs to get a glass of water when the man, smelling faintly of alcohol, staggered in.
Seeing Chi Suinian, he froze for a moment before immediately leading him toward the bed.
“…It’s time to sleep, where else are you going?”
Chi Suinian: “…”
Time for what?
What the hell did you just say?
A drunk person had some serious strength, and for a moment, Chi Suinian couldn’t break free. In the blink of an eye, he was thrown onto the bed, with Lu Zhiyue holding him like an octopus.
Lu Zhiyue even patted his back gently, like he was soothing a child.
Chi Suinian looked at him, furious.
Probably not expecting that the person he was holding would become even angrier, Lu Zhiyue frowned and looked at him, “Why aren’t you sleeping?”
You… what are you saying?
Chi Suinian struggled fiercely, but the hand around his waist was like a vice, not moving at all.
“Lu Zhiyue.” Chi Suinian’s voice turned cold, “If you don’t want a bruise on your face, take your damn paws off me.”
Lu Zhiyue opened his eyes. The bruise on his jaw was still aching, a result of Chi Suinian’s earlier punch.
Lu Zhiyue had just woken up, and his body hadn’t fully recovered, but his strength was still considerable.
One hit could make him tear up from the pain.
But Lu Zhiyue didn’t want to let go. He had finally managed to get to the bed, and now he had someone in his arms.
Let him be beaten—he wasn’t unfamiliar with it.
He would let Chi Suinian hit him if it came to that.
“Stop fooling around. It’s late, you should rest.”
Chi Suinian was held even tighter, his head buried in the firm chest.
Soon, the sound of steady breathing filled the room.
In the middle of the night, Chi Suinian gritted his teeth in anger, wanting to bite his neck.
Lu Zhiyue, you wait until tomorrow.
