A lot of footnotes in the first chapter since it’s a historical novel but pls bear with me

When the last phrase on the novel page came into view, Pei Xiting seemed to be under some kind of mental attack. His throat spasmed, and he buried his head in the trash can at the foot of the table and retched, “Huggh——”
But before he could retch all the way, a hand grabbed his collar and pulled him forward suddenly, followed by a strange male voice sounding in his ears.
“Dare to vomit at me? Are you looking for death!”
Without any warning, his body seemed to be wrapped and burned by the strong smell of alcohol. Pei Xiting’s eyes were full of stars and his head was splitting, but in fact he only drank half a cup of Jungle Bird cocktail tonight.
What’s going on?
Is he going to join the camp of fragile college students that break with a touch?
Pei Xiting endured the discomfort and lifted his eyelids wet with physiological tears. In front of him was a young man with long hair and a high crown, with dragon eyebrows and phoenix eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips—a plateau of appearance, but low in quality.
Although Pei Xiting was not as bad as the second-generation rich kids he hung out with, he was not a soft-tempered person. He was on the verge of an outburst, but the fury died in his throat as his gaze shifted from the intimidating face before him to the wall behind.
There was a green landscape painting hanging on the wall, a flower vase with the words “Jade hall of prosperity” at the bottom of the wall, and a bamboo mat and couch next to it—wasn’t the bar decorated in steampunk style? How did he end up here?!
The sentimental resident singer with tears and snot, the young couple at the front table hugging and kissing passionately, the cheongsam girl not far away slapping the mistress and her cheating boyfriend… He belatedly realized that all the noise in the bar had inexplicably disappeared. Pei Xiting blinked three times, and the strange scene in front of him remained still, except for the blazing anger in the man’s eyes, which “swooshed” and burned up at this second.
A suffocating sensation overwhelmed Pei Xiting, causing his vision to blur. He was pinched by the neck and staggered on the bed. The man pressed him down, and the thunder-like roar rang out again:
“Dare to ignore me? You are so brave!”
You are sick in the head. Pei Xiting frowned and cursed secretly. While grabbing the man’s arm, he lifted his foot and stomped on his waist and abdomen, trying to roll him over and throw him against the wall. However, the man didn’t even shake, but he almost sprained his waist.
Pei Xiting: “?”
“Pei Xiting, don’t think I dare not kill you,” the man ignored the struggle that’s as effective as a tickle and said aggressively, “Your family is merely an official from Guanglu Temple[mfn]Guanglu Temple is an institution related to the Ministry of Rites , in charge of sacrifices, banquets, palace meals, and worship, all reports of victory alliances, important ceremonies, and banquets when receiving envoys.[/mfn]. I can trample on you like ants!”
Pei Xiting’s pupils shrank.
This arrogant idiot, Pei Xiting, Guanglu Temple’s official, and these domineering and arrogant lines… Isn’t this the opening introduction of the high-H[mfn]H means the novel contains a lot of explicit scenes, so high-h, yeahhh, there’s a lot of it.[/mfn] BL novel “Raising” that he just read, which combines elements of coercion, substitutes, and wife-chasing crematorium?
As for the man in front of him, Pei Xiting stretched out his hand to grab the dog paw that was clamping him and squeezed out a name with difficulty, “Shang, Shangguan Jie?”
The moist red eyes were like a pocket of clouds that floated up to cover Shangguan Jie’s eyes, and in a trance, he remembered that half a year ago, when he rode his horse through Baitou Street, the person who tumbled down from the eaves of the wall and slammed his buttocks into him was also staring at him with this kind of fearful gaze.
Shangguan Jie subconsciously loosened his strength.
The air rushed in, prompting Pei Xiting into a coughing fit. He wiped away his tears and had a guess:
Either he died in his sleep, or someone spiked his drink with a drug that has a hallucination effect; otherwise, there was no way to explain this unscientific phenomenon. As for the background setting, maybe it’s because this novel’s mental impact on him has not yet ended?
The shitty experience of dreaming into an H-text and having to experience a scene where the protagonist suffers is unique to him, a three-dimensional carbon-based creature with the same name, or does it exist for all readers?
What made Pei Xiting speechless was that this experience didn’t have to be so real. Right now his whole body is on fire. In the original novel, after Shangguan Jie tricked “Pei Xiting” into Fumeng Tower, he used a series of old-fashioned lines such as “I like you,” “Be my person,” and “Take off” to scare the usually conformist straight man into running away. But how can the duck that was about to be caught fly away? Shangguan Jie easily caught the person and pressed him on the table, squeezing his chin and forcibly pouring a pot of wine into his mouth. Then he angrily said the classic line that is suitable for both ancient and modern times: “Refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit[mfn]To refuse a gentle offer in favor of a harsh punishment.[/mfn]!”
“Pei Xiting” didn’t drink a drop of alcohol before, and the consequences can be imagined. Thinking about the long series of warning plots that followed, Pei Xiting was immediately in trouble and couldn’t sit idly waiting for death.
But Shangguan Jie is a martial artist. He has a keen sense and a subconscious reaction to resist and counterattack. He must wait for him to lower his defense first and then hit with a single blow.
After formulating the action plan in an instant, Pei Xiting turned his head and looked directly at Shangguan Jie. He used his acting skills, which were 70% based on his talent and 30% based on his experience in fighting various bad people since childhood. With tears and anger in his eyes, he said the original line: “Young Marquis has status and dignity; why commit such a dirty thing!”
Shangguan Jie did not answer. His true feelings had to be hidden in his flesh and blood for the time being, which this lowly substitute wasn’t qualified to know. But Pei Xiting’s words still easily angered him, “Dirty? It’s a blessing of eight lifetimes that I took a fancy to you! If you dare to make trouble again, I might as well send you to a brothel. When you learn to be a b*tch, you will naturally know how to talk to me!”
After that, he pulled out Pei Xiting’s hairpin and threw it off the bed.
The black hair immediately cascaded down like brocade. Pei Xiting had to incline his head due to the force. He looked disheveled, but his snow-like beauty could not be hidden. Because he was so weak and unable to resist, this picture was actually a bit erotic.
“Pah.” The jade hairpin fell to the ground and made a light shattering sound.
Shangguan Jie narrowed his eyes slightly and suddenly reached out to wrap his hands around the neck of the person below him. The man had white skin, so it was easy to leave marks. At this moment, the pinch mark he rubbed with his thumb was both terrifying and poignant.
Pei Xiting trembled in fear, which made Shangguan Jie quite happy, and his tone was also relieved. “If you are obedient, I naturally won’t mistreat you. Isn’t it good for us to benefit each other? Why bother resisting?”
Good your family. Pei Xiting cursed silently, but on the surface he said in panic, “You and I are both men…”
“Who told you to stay cooped up in the courtyard every day? You are really ignorant.” Shangguan Jie laughed and leaned over to blow on Pei Xiting’s pale cheek, “What do you think Qing Lingling can do to stay with the Prince of Ning[mfn]Prince Ning is the prince of a duke, not the current king.[/mfn]? A dry road is also a road.”
Pei Xiting decided to customize a life-size sandbag of Shangguan Jie immediately after waking up and put it on the boxing ring at home and beat it into pieces.
But the disgust in his heart could not hinder the self-cultivation of an “actor”. Pei Xiting shrank back and tilted his head, taking the opportunity to distance himself a little. His voice collapsed and hoarse, “But I’m not a homosexual! I came here because my friend invited me, and I have no intention of clinging to you. Please spare me, young marquis…”
“What a fool.” Shangguan Jie held Pei Xiting’s hot face and observed carefully, “I pretended to be Qing Lingling to send you a letter. He might be serving under the crotch of Prince Ning at this moment. How could he have the mind to think about you… Hey, not to mention, of all the beauties in Yejing, none really compare to you when it comes to faces.”
At least your eyes still function normally. Pei Xiting begged, “Young Marquis, please–“
“Alright,” Shangguan Jie frowned, “If you delay any longer, it will be dark. I have official business in the evening, so I don’t have time to spend with you. From now on, you’d better only make sounds of moaning; otherwise, I will cut off your tongue!”
While he threatened with cold words, his hand forcefully pulled the water blue collar, revealing Pei Xiting’s congested collarbone.
Pei Xiting resisted strongly, and his ribs were suddenly hit by a hard object.
“Hmm…” He grunted as he wrinkled his eyebrows. Then he saw an object fall out of Shangguan Jie’s sleeve and onto the bed.
*
“It’s called Po Yinlin[mfn]破霪霖 Breaking the heavy rain[/mfn]–“
In the private room on the second floor, the middle-aged man pointed at the eight-inch-long dagger with a dark blue sheath in the painting and whispered without taking a breath, “At the beginning of spring, Empress Qu went out of the palace to pay respects to Buddha. On her way back, she encountered a group of white-clad assassins. Shangguan Jie, the deputy commander of the Left Guard of the Imperial Guard, was rewarded by the Crown Prince with the precious weapon of the Imperial Palace arsenal, ‘Po Yinlin,’ for his bravery because of his effective protection. Your mission is to get it.”
The masked man sitting opposite leaned on a thin red cloth stick that was half a person tall. When he heard that the target of the mission was an object from the Imperial Palace, his expression didn’t change, but he just casually glanced at the painting, “Do I act now?”
In the evening, the glutinous rice cake shop was going to introduce a new flavor, and there were only ten portions available. He had originally planned to grab it.
“Definitely! We have followed Shangguan Jie for more than a month. When he goes out, he is either surrounded by people or with the Imperial Guards. Today is his rare trip alone. According to our spies, he met the third son of the official from the Guanglu Temple, Pei Xiting.” The middle-aged man was quite sure, “This Third Pei is just a weak childe who has no achievements. He is very different from the rebellious and arrogant Shangguan Jie in identity. These two never had any interactions before. But it’s rumored that he has an amazing appearance—I guess they must be joint at the hips now!”
Even with just his eyes exposed, the masked man showed the look of someone who has not experienced the world and asked, “Two men?”
“There’s even someone who would do it with a dog… The point is that this is a rare good opportunity!” The man pushed the box in front of him over. “Here’s a hundred taels of gold ingots; count it as a deposit. I’ll pay you another hundred taels when it’s done! Remember, if you want to make a move, you must hit it in one shot; otherwise, you’d rather choose another good opportunity!”
“Wait for me at Baiyou Mountain. The money and goods will be settled there.” The masked man stood up and jumped out of the window facing the backyard. He leaped up to the third floor like a phantom, flipping over the railing and landing on the corridor. He approached his destination with a light pace, only to hear an angry rebuke from inside the door:
“Nothing can cure your sickness!”
Pei Xiting, who has always been a weakling, struggled with all his strength in a critical moment, and Shangguan Jie unexpectedly couldn’t control him for a while. In the chaos, Shangguan Jie was kicked twice, his anger almost resembling a vengeful ghost. It has always been others who tried their best to climb into his bed, but this is the first time he has met someone who struggled to death in his bed!
Shangguan Jie’s patience bottomed out, so he slapped Pei Xiting. Pei Xiting’s head tilted due to the force, and his whole body softened immediately.
“Finally behaving?” Shangguan Jie sneered, gripping Pei Xiting’s wrists and freeing one hand to hold his waist, hooking the belt and pulling it hard. The thin waist obviously couldn’t withstand it, arching up and up and down like a string, trembling, accompanied by suppressed gasps.
“Your waist is so thin. The Pei family didn’t give you food?” The clothing in April was light and thin. As soon as Shangguan Jie finished speaking, the fabric on Pei Xiting’s body slid down, revealing a fluctuating chest.
So white.
Shangguan Jie’s eyes flickered, and he inexplicably reached out his hand. Suddenly, the soft and limp person beneath him bent his knees and pushed his crotch! He subconsciously clamped his legs to avoid it, but unexpectedly, this moment of distraction allowed Pei Xiting to break free of his grasp.
“You—”
“Pah!”
With a slap, Shangguan Jie’s barking was cut off. Pei Xiting used all his strength to slam into him. Shangguan Jie felt pain in his ribs, stifling a grunt as he leaned back and stomped one leg on the ground.
Pei Xiting’s legs were partially freed. Without waiting for Shangguan Jie to react, he suddenly raised his leg and used his killer move—a fatal chicken[mfn]Chicken is the euphemism for d*ck.[/mfn] attack!
“Ugh!” This feeling was simply indescribable. Shangguan Jie immediately felt numb from his scalp to his heels. Even the cry of pain was stuck in his throat as he fell straight down.
His back hit the ground hard; veins popped out on his forehead. He stared at the person who stood up from the bed in shock and anger and said hoarsely, “You dare…”
Pei Xiting picked up the dagger Shangguan Jie had placed on the bedside, stepped on the belt that had slipped from his waist to his feet, walked forward two steps, and half-knelt down. Shangguan Jie felt a pain in his lower abdomen as he pressed against it with his right knee.
Pei Xiting brushed his messy hair behind his ears. His pair of phoenix eyes drooped without any cover. Due to this ruthless gaze, he looked indifferent and harsh with a breathtaking aura.
How could Pei Xiting, who blushed while speaking softly to anyone, show such an expression?!
The dagger was pulled out with a “swish”. Shangguan Jie had a bad feeling and quickly came back to his senses, saying, “If you dare to touch me, I will kill you–“
“Pah!”
Shangguan Jie was slapped in the face again. When he turned his head back, his expression was like gushing magma, as if he would devour people into ashes the next moment.
Pei Xiting shook his numb hands and stared at him coldly. “Well, I dare not; I’m scared to death.”
He bit the last two words lightly, with a strange tenderness, but suddenly reached out and grabbed Shangguan Jie’s mouth, which was about to open and spit shit. He clenched the dagger and thrust it heavily into his chest—
“Pah!”
The window was suddenly knocked open. Pei Xiting’s hand trembled, and before he could turn his head, a dagger blocked his neck horizontally. At the same time, a stick wrapped in red cloth swept past his shoulder, knocking out Shangguan Jie, whose eyes were completely bloodshot.
A soft, hoarse voice sounded behind him: “Don’t move.”
The dagger was unusually cold, prompting Pei Xiting to shudder. His brain seemed to be poured with a basin of ice water, causing him to be wide awake.
Memories surged in his mind like waves. They were memories of “Pei Xiting,” detailed and trivial, leaving people with a chilling sensation. Pei Xiting saw “Pei Xiting” in it. They not only had the same name and surname and were born on the same day but also had a face with the same facial features. What’s even creepier is that, by now, the “dream” didn’t just feel surreal, but it became the reality—as if everything was under his control.
Pei Xiting was at a loss for a moment and asked as calmly as possible, “Murder?”
“Robbery.”
The person who was least worthy of being robbed in the room was “Pei Xiting”. So he said, “Then spare me. I’ll leave quietly.”
The dagger was moved away, and the man came out from behind him—night clothes, black scarf, beautiful eyebrows, and almond eyes. According to the outline of his eyes and skull, he should be a handsome guy. He is about 178 cm tall, with well-proportioned measurements, slender limbs, and a lean body.
Pei Xiting habitually glanced at the other person, then walked to the couch and sat down, quietly staring at the man openly, thinking: Wearing night clothes in broad daylight to do bad things, are you afraid that people won’t notice you?
The masked man didn’t know he was being criticized. He walked straight to Pei Xiting, extending his palm and saying, “Give it to me.”
Pei Xiting followed the other person’s line of sight and saw the dagger in his palm. “Oh.”
The two of them completed the dagger handover ceremony neatly. The masked man unsheathed the dagger and saw that the water patterns were surging and shining brightly. He used his own dagger to test Po Yinlin, and the former broke into two pieces with a slight touch. Truly deserved the saying, cutting jade like mud.
The mission went beyond expectation. The masked man put away the dagger and said, “Thank you for the surprise victory, which made me the winner.”
No wonder there is no such plot in the original book. Although Shangguan Jie was committing evil deeds, as long as “Pei Xiting” acted normally, Shangguan Jie wouldn’t be delayed from jumping down to meet the enemy, and he might even blind the opponent’s eyes, win by surprise, and kill the enemy directly. But Shangguan Ji suffered a heavy blow just now. He was temporarily disabled, so the masked man naturally didn’t need to be afraid of anything.
Pei Xiting sneered, shook his head, and said, “No, if it wasn’t for you, I would have killed someone.”
The masked man said strangely, “You actually planned to kill him?”
Pei Xiting said, “I thought I was dreaming.”
Scared out of your wits into dreaming in broad daylight? The masked man looked at Pei Xiting and sighed, “When unable to protect oneself, being too good-looking is also a ‘fault’.”
No, “Pei Xiting”’s “fault” isn’t being too good-looking, but that his eyebrows and eyes resemble his second brother, Pei Jintang.
Who is Pei Jintang? When the three members of the original scum gongs group looked up, all they saw was this white moonlight[mfn]Unrequited love[/mfn].
The white moonlight is naturally high above and couldn’t be easily blasphemed. The scum gongs group thinks about him day and night, scratching their hearts and livers, so they set their sights on White Moonlight’s third brother.
Shangguan Jie is a man of action. He took the lead in tricking “Pei Xiting” to Fumeng Tower and r*ped him. The two had different statuses. Pei Xiting was weak and introverted, so how could he resist? He fell into the abyss of torture by the scum gongs group, and finally he cried his eyes blind, had his legs broken, was imprisoned until he was insane, and could never be released. He then stabbed his throat and committed su*cide. This novel has a bad ending.
Pei Xiting opened this novel because he had the same name as the protagonist. As for why he spent 5 RMB[mfn]0.69USD[/mfn] to commit this crime, there are roughly two reasons:
First, although the plot is extremely p*rnographic, the writing is good, which can make people curse while reading and finally sigh: What a horror novel. Perhaps this is the magic power of those who can write?
Secondly, the “crematorium” label on the introduction gave him a shot of adrenaline, but when he saw the three words “full text,” he confirmed: Oh, it turned out to be a real crematorium.
At that time, thousands of reading notes were condensed into a short, concise, and profound word—f*ck.
At this time, facing the situation of suspected book-transmigration, his feelings have evolved again—f*ck.
The masked man saw Pei Xiting wander off with leaden eyes, as if he was grieving for his tragic fate. Just as he was about to leave quietly, Pei Xiting suddenly looked at him.
“Are you a bandit?”
“Just doing things for money.”
“Oh. Bounty hunter?”
“Just an ordinary person who works hard to make money.”
“Oh.”
Which ordinary person dares to do such a head-losing job as “stealing the imperial gift from the young marquis”? Besides, this man is young and has a calm temperament, but he deliberately masked his sharp edges, which means he is definitely not simple.
Pei Xiting didn’t believe his words, but he didn’t expose him either. “Excuse me, are you taking a private job? If so, what is your business…what is the scope of the task? What’s the price?”
“I’m a loner. As long as the money is in place, whether killing a person or a pig, it’s the same to me. As for the price, ordinary people can’t afford me anyway.”
—Well, he’s too poor.
Pei Xiting understood.
“Pei Xiting” is indeed not financially well-off, but he just arrived here, and the Pei family is unreliable. How can he protect his buttocks without seeking some external help?
Pei Xiting said unhappily, “If I want to hire you as a bodyguard…, can you name a price?”
The masked man gestured with twenty taels and said, “I can’t be a bodyguard who’s available at any time or follow you wherever you go, so this is the price for one time. But if you want to fight to the death, I’m sorry, I’ll have to turn around and leave. Your life and death are up to fate.”
“Pei Xiting”‘s monthly salary is only two taels, so he really can’t afford a bodyguard of this price at the moment. The feeling of being short of money is novel and “wonderful”. Pei Xiting secretly lamented, while thinking about how to make money in this fictional Daye Dynasty, he thought, “Twenty taels is enough for an ordinary family of six to spend for one or two years; it’s not cheap. Hey, what level are you in this trade?”
“I don’t know. It’s not like I fight with everyone who’s in the same trade. But—” The masked man paused.
Pei Xiting continued, “But?”
The masked man said, “I haven’t failed any task I was commissioned to do.”
Bold, good martial arts, good looks, and pleasant voice, Pei Xiting quite likes this guy. “Then how can I find you when I need you?”
The masked man took out a copper coin-shaped wooden sign from his pocket and threw it over, saying, “Go to Baiyou Mountain to find the shopkeeper Qi at least three days in advance and ask him to hang the sign. If I can take the order, I will come to you. Otherwise, you can ask if there is someone else to take the order. It’s best not to find me; it’s not cost-effective.”
Pei Xiting grabbed the sign. When he looked up again, the masked man had already jumped out of the window like a nimble and light black cat, his clothes fluttering and disappearing in the blink of an eye. He couldn’t help but feel envious.
He had a habit of brewing sleepiness since he was a child, that is, imagining scripts in his mind, especially martial arts or immortal cultivation themes, imagining that he could fly over the eaves and walls, fly into the sky, and into the sea.
If he transmigrated, why can’t it be these cool scripts? Is this a punishment for reading p*rnographic books?
Pei Xiting muttered to himself. Suddenly, he keenly sensed something. He glanced across the courtyard at the rows of closed windows, doors, empty corridors, and lush treetops in front and behind the eaves… Was that an illusion?
He frowned, slapped the window closed, and turned to the makeup mirror.
A face that was too familiar but seemed unfamiliar appeared in the mirror. The jawline was softened, the body was slimmer, there were no ear piercings, and the two-month-old shaggy curly perm was being mercilessly straightened and lengthened. Besides that, the skin color and facial features were exactly the same. Even the small black mole on the left lower eyelid near the eye corner was no different.
When reading the original novel, Pei Xiting actually felt that the description of “Pei Xiting” was a bit familiar, but it’s a novel nonetheless, and the description has enough room for imagination, so he didn’t think too much. The original novel has 40 chapters, 30 of which are about driving a truck[mfn]Euphemism for s*x.[/mfn], so “Pei Xiting”‘s body is naturally described in detail. He has no birthmark nor any obvious scars before meeting the scum gongs group, while he…
Pei Xiting Ting stood up, grabbed the hem of his inner garment, and lifted it up.
From the lower abdomen to the right side of his waist, there were two purple rose tattoos with a black snake holding branches. The snake was inclined sideways, and the center of the exposed eye was a red mole on his skin.
Pei Xiting reached out and poked the little black snake and touched a scar covered by it.
He had one more thing to check… He pulled open the hem of his pants and looked down. Yes, it was the familiar one.
This was his own body—a weak chicken version with no signs of exercise and missing abdominal muscles.
