Chapter 32: The Loyal Dog Awaits in the Room

___

Xuan Yuanchen walked up to Jiang Yan’s side. A faint smile suddenly appeared at the corner of his lips, and his gaze behind his glasses shifted to Senior Jiang Yan’s face. “I still hope you’ll come back to my side,” he said.

Senior Jiang Yan turned his face slightly, narrowed his eyes, and brought the spoon of ice cream closer to Xuan Yuanchen’s face. Then he opened his mouth and said, “Hehehe.”

“Hmph.” Godfather actually laughed! I’ve never seen Xuan Yuanchen laugh before!

Shouldn’t this sort of “cold prince’s thousand-year smile” moment happen to a Mary Sue female lead?! But—these two guys—how shameless~~

Suddenly, my face turned red.

Eh?

Why am I blushing and my heart racing?!

I quickly looked down, but my face still turned crimson uncontrollably. Worse, even my ears were overheating from overthinking! These two people are too much! But you know what? I’ve decided—starting today, I’m shipping the Chen-Yan CP! It’s way better than shipping Can-Su CP!

Eh? But what about Mo Ming?

Oh no! Xia Xiaolan, where is your head going?! Whew—calm down—whew—

Suddenly, a hand brushed away the long hair by my neck. I snapped back to my senses and saw Xuan Yuanchen standing right in front of me. He gently moved aside the strands of hair near my neck, his gaze behind the glasses showing confusion. “Jiang Yan didn’t bite you?”

I froze. This was the first time I had been so close to Xuan Yuanchen. The aura he exuded was truly overwhelming. I felt like I had been immobilized, unable to move at all.

He let go of my hair and reached for the other side of my neck. I stared at him blankly. He frowned slightly, released my hair, and suddenly looked at me intently. “Where did he bite you?” he asked, his gaze starting to scan my body.

“Nowhere! Godfather!” I covered myself in panic.

Hearing the word “Godfather,” he frowned. “I’m not an X-ray machine!”

I blinked, slowly lowering my hands, only to realize I had somehow followed him all the way to the edge of the campus lake. The water cascaded down like a waterfall into the lower park’s lake.

“Then why…” He tilted his head slightly in confusion.

I quickly explained, “It was really an accident! Senior Jiang Yan and I have been living together for a while. If he wanted to bite me, he would’ve done it long ago.”

“What kind of accident?” His sharp gaze seemed to pierce through me. Under such scrutiny, my heartbeat quickened with guilt—lying to him felt nearly impossible.

“I accidentally injured my hand…” I mumbled, “and Senior Jiang Yan lost control…”

Huh? Why did I use the word “control”? I touched my chin in confusion.

He glanced at me and slightly raised his chin. “What are you confused about?”

“I think… I might have used the wrong word.”

“That’s normal. Your language skills are terrible,” he said bluntly.

Ugh! Was that necessary?!

He maintained his usual aloof expression. “No other reason?”

“No!” I immediately stood up straight, like a soldier reporting to a superior.

He narrowed his eyes. “I hope you know my personality. I don’t want there to be any secrets in the Celestial (Immortal) Realm that I’m unaware of.” He stared at me with an icy gaze, and I could feel cold sweat forming on my back.

After a moment, he retracted his sharp look and asked, “What has Xuanyue been doing while I was away?”

I knew it!

I immediately reported, “Godfather, Xuanyue hasn’t caused any trouble. She’s been staying in his room recovering from his injuries every day.”

He tilted his head slightly, seemingly deep in thought, then looked at me. “Understood.” After a brief pause, he continued, “I’ll take you back.”

“Huh?” I was a bit surprised. “There’s no need to trouble you, Godfather.”

He frowned immediately, looking extremely irritated. “I just don’t want Fusu to stir up trouble!” He crossed his arms and sighed in frustration. “What a hassle. I can’t let you go off alone. Let’s go—I have other matters to attend to.”

With that, he raised his hand. “Snap!” A flying car descended from the sky. He got inside with his usual cold demeanor, sitting regally in his seat, and then cast an icy glance at me. “What are you waiting for?”

“Ah!” I hurried to get in the car, reaching for the front passenger seat.

“Sit across from me,” he ordered coldly.

“Yes, Godfather!”

The driver uncle smiled knowingly.

Obediently, I opened the back door. Suddenly, the car interior extended, transforming into a spacious compartment with a row of seats directly across from Xuan Yuanchen. I sat down, and the five books that had been following me around stacked themselves neatly by my side. Ugh, they really are haunting me.

As the car took off, I sat stiffly in my seat.

Xuan Yuanchen glanced at me, his long black hair billowing in the wind. His glasses reflected a cold gleam. “Fusu’s family has been informed about the situation,” he said. “So, for the time being, he won’t bother you again.”

“His family knows?!” My heart erupted in silent celebration—yes! Turns out even scumbags need their parents to rein them in.

Xuan Yuanchen frowned slightly, his gaze turning cold as he stared at me. “Xia Xiaolan, are you hiding something from me?”

I inhaled sharply—Xuan Yuanchen’s presence was suffocating.

Forcing a laugh, I said, “Godfather, I still have some personal rights, don’t I? It’s okay to have a little secret once in a while, right? I don’t have to report everything to you, do I?”

I cautiously observed his reaction. He lowered his gaze slightly, seemingly deep in thought, before looking back at me. His glasses gleamed coldly. “Fine, I’ll allow you to have small secrets. But big secrets…” His eyes narrowed dangerously.

I immediately declared, “Rest assured, Godfather! I’m yours!”

He squinted at me, finally curling his lips into a satisfied smile. “Good. I’ll make sure to cherish you.”

“Thank you, Godfather!” Without shame, I knelt on one knee in the car, placing his hand on my forehead.

“Alright, alright.” He awkwardly pulled his hand back and frowned at me. I returned to my seat, and he adjusted his glasses. “Next time, stop calling me Godfather.”

“Understood, Godfather.”

His brow twitched. “Your glasses are very clean.”

“Thank you for the compliment, Godfather.”

His brow twitched again. “We’ve arrived. Get out.”

“Yes, Godfather.”

His face darkened.

I got out of the car, and my books followed suit. The flying car ascended, and I waved. “Goodbye, Godfather!”

He immediately covered his face in exasperation, and both the car and the driver uncle’s amused smile disappeared into the sky.

Phew, finally got Xuan Yuanchen to leave. I looked at the books hovering beside me. Ugh, I can’t take this anymore.

With a “whoosh,” a silver-gray figure darted by—Mo Ming finally appeared. At the same time, the door burst open, and several injured companions—Mao Mao, Qing Ming, and Si Yinuo—rushed out.

“Xiao Lan, you’re back. Where’s Jiang Yan?” Mao Mao asked curiously.

Mo Ming immediately turned to me. “You’ve been with Jiang Yan this entire time?!” His emerald-green eyes were already filled with regret.

I was about to respond when Mo Ming’s gaze shifted behind me. Simultaneously, Mao Mao, Qing Ming, and Si Yinuo looked past me in shock. Confused, I turned to see who it was.

Senior Jiang Yan!

I stared in disbelief as Jiang Yan staggered toward us. His hair was a mess, his shirt was in tatters and fluttering in the wind, and his pants looked like they’d been ripped into uneven strips.

Mao Mao covered her mouth, her sapphire eyes shimmering with emotion. “Senior Jiang Yan! Who did this to you?!”

I looked at Mao Mao speechlessly. That expression was practically screaming, Who defiled you?!

“Who’s responsible?” Qing Ming asked.

Si Yinuo peeked out from behind Xiao Bai, smirking mischievously. “Wow, that was intense…”

Senior Jiang Yan stumbled to the doorway, propping himself against the frame. Then, to my astonishment, he raised his hand to his forehead and tilted his head at a dramatic 45-degree angle.

“Sigh, I nearly lost my dignity. Luckily, I managed to escape. For now… I just want to be alone…”

Oh, come on, Senior Jiang Yan! Do you have to act like Lin Daiyu all the time?!

I rolled my eyes at him. “Senior Jiang Yan, you didn’t lose to the Light God (Guang Shen), did you?”

His entire body froze. Slowly, he lowered his hand, crossed his arms over his tattered clothes, and smiled mockingly at me. “Lose? Me? Hmph.” His brow twitched as he turned away dramatically, hand on his forehead once again. “I just didn’t beat him…”

Oh, please! Isn’t that the same as losing?! Why are you acting like you’re in a stage play?!

“I want to be alone. Don’t call me for dinner.” With that, he disappeared in a flash.

Qing Ming, Si Yinuo, and Mao Mao stood by the door, stunned.

“Senior Jiang Yan fought the Light God?!” Mao Mao gasped.

I nodded.

“Blood clans have a very strong territorial instinct,” Mo Ming said gravely from the side. “Only one Vampire King can occupy a given area. After Jiang Yan fed, his aura changed significantly. If the Light God saw him, a fight was inevitable.”

“It’s a shame Senior Jiang Yan still lost. As expected, the Light God is the strongest,” Mao Mao sighed, her words tinged with admiration.

Would Senior Jiang Yan really lose?

If he could lose, why would Xuan Yuanchen hope for him to return to the royal palace?

It seemed someone had deliberately lost the fight.

However, that evening, an official notice arrived. Senior Jiang Yan had been placed under house arrest for engaging in an unauthorized duel within the Celestial Realm. Similarly, the Light God was also confined.

Later that night, before I even got into bed, Mo Ming was already lying neatly on his mattress. Strangely enough, after last night’s events, I didn’t feel as awkward around him today. Especially since I had to study.

I placed my books under my head as a makeshift pillow, deciding to read them in my dreams for better efficiency. Mo Ming noticed my “pillow” and frowned, as if recalling some embarrassing memory. He turned his head away, while I drifted into a dream, continuing to study history.
