Moving into the new house was like dropping fish into water—the cubs played with boundless joy every day.
They explored every corner of their new home, filling it with the constant sound of their chatter. Whenever they weren’t at school, the house was lively and bustling.
But happy times never lasted forever.
The moment their first-ever exam arrived, the little fox finally panicked.
She had been too busy playing—
She had completely forgotten to ask Ruan Yuebai for last-minute tutoring!
As she sat at her desk on exam day, her mind was a complete mess.
To be fair, the test questions weren’t particularly difficult.
But that didn’t matter much to a cub who hated studying.
She had attended lessons, but… whatever the teacher had said had gone in one ear and out the other.
When the exam ended, the little fox walked out of the classroom like a wilted cabbage left soaking in water for too long—
Droopy.
Limp.
Completely defeated.
She vaguely recognized most of the questions, but when it came time to actually answer them?
Nothing.
Turning desperately to the little dragon cub, she asked, “Was this exam really hard?”
The little dragon cub scratched his head, hesitating. “Uhh… not really?”
As a dragon cub who had already fully developed in all aspects, Heli’s learning ability was exceptional. Plus, with his inherited memories, the cub school curriculum was laughably easy for him.
The little fox turned to the little mermaid next—
But then immediately remembered that he loved studying.
Obviously, he wouldn’t have found the test difficult at all.
With a deep sigh, she drooped her ears in disappointment.
She reached over and tugged on Snowball’s fur. “I really hope I didn’t come in last place.”
Rong Heng lifted his eyes to glance at her.
Then, he snorted.
Too late to regret now.
Where was all this concern when she was supposed to be studying?
Hah.
The next three days were pure suffering for the little fox.
She couldn’t eat properly.
She couldn’t play with any enthusiasm.
She just counted the days until the exam results came out, dreading the moment of truth.
Finally, the day arrived.
Clutching the little blue star necklace around her neck, she silently prayed—
Please don’t let me be last place… please don’t let me be last place…
Unfortunately, the gods did not hear her prayers.
In class, the teacher announced the results:
First place: Snowball & Ruan Yuebai (tied)
Second place: Heli
Last place: Nota
……
Not even a little surprising.
When the little fox received her report card, she looked down at it, utterly defeated.
Her whole body slumped in despair.
She wasn’t even excited about going home.
“What do I do?” she muttered, completely miserable. “Do you think Daddy will be mad at me?”
The little dragon cub thought for a moment before offering a solution:
“How about… we just don’t tell him? That way, he won’t know you came in last. And then when you do better next time, you can tell him then!”
Although he had really wanted to show off his own good grades, after some thought, the little dragon cub decided that Nota was more important!
The little mermaid immediately nodded in agreement.
He reached out and patted the little fox’s head, signing: I’ll tutor you.
The little fox’s ears twitched. After some hesitation, she finally agreed.
She clenched her little paws—
She would study hard with Ruan Yuebai!
With their plan decided, the three cubs quickly reached a silent understanding.
And Snowball?
Since he hadn’t said anything, they just took his silence as agreement.
That afternoon, when Ruan Shiqing came to pick them up, he immediately sensed something off.
The usual excitement and cheerfulness were gone, replaced by an odd sense of heaviness.
“Did something happen at school?” he asked.
“No!” The little fox immediately responded, ears standing straight up—
But her eyes refused to meet his.
Ruan Shiqing was certain something had happened.
But cubs had their own little secrets, and if they didn’t want to share, he never forced them.
So, with a smile, he changed the subject, dropping the matter for now.
There were always other ways to find out.
The little fox, who had been rigid with tension, secretly let out a breath of relief.
But immediately afterward, a wave of guilt washed over her.
Daddy had been so good to her, sending her to school—
And yet, she hadn’t studied properly at all.
She had even placed dead last.
She clenched her little paws, her ears drooping listlessly.
But studying is so hard…
Trying her best to stay awake in class was already a huge effort!
Sigh.
The little fox let out a long, long sigh.
If only she didn’t have to study at all.
Lying nearby, Rong Heng shot her a glance, his expression turning slightly cool.
While the cubs were distracted, he quietly reached over—
And opened the little fox’s backpack.
The crown prince had absolutely no intention of covering for her.
A cub’s education was critical.
And today—
He was going to teach the little fox a lesson.
When the land cruiser pulled into the front yard, the cubs climbed out with their backpacks.
Still in a gloomy daze, the little fox completely failed to notice—
Her backpack was wide open.
And so, as she stepped out—
Her report card slipped out, floating gently to the ground.
The little dragon cub turned back to call her—
But then his eyes widened in horror.
“Nota!!!!!!”
The little fox blinked. “Huh?”
At that moment—
Ruan Shiqing, who had just stepped down, bent over and picked up the mysterious fallen paper.
His gaze swept over the words—
A report card.
The scores… weren’t great.
Realization dawned instantly.
Turning slightly, he looked at the little fox—
Who, upon seeing the paper in his hands, immediately fluffed up in terror.
Her tail bristled, and her eyes went wide.
“Daddy!” she blurted out, voice filled with panic.
Her face burned with embarrassment and fear.
Would Daddy think she was too dumb?
Would he stop liking her?
But Ruan Shiqing only smiled.
He didn’t open the report card further—
Instead, he casually brushed off the dust, crouched down, and quietly placed it back into her bag, zipping it shut.
“You forgot to close your backpack,” he said lightly. “Too careless.”
The little fox stared at him, stunned.
Her face turned bright red.
She nervously hid her hands behind her back and ducked her head, voice soft as a whisper: “Thank you, Daddy.”
The little fox’s ten fluffy tails, which usually swayed proudly, now hung limply behind her.
Ruan Shiqing reached out and ruffled her head gently. “Go on inside.”
She nodded, clutching her little backpack as she dashed upstairs.
Her heart was in complete turmoil.
On one hand, she wanted to show Daddy her report card and be honest.
On the other, she was terrified—Terrified that if he saw she had come in last place, he wouldn’t like her anymore.
Rushing into her room, she hugged her backpack tightly and buried herself under her blanket.
Once he was sure the cubs were all upstairs, Ruan Shiqing murmured under his breath, “She’s so clever and quick-witted… how did she end up in last place?”
It just didn’t make sense.
Frowning, he pulled up the school’s communication system and sent a message to the teacher, asking about Nota’s performance in class.
At the top of the stairs, spying from the shadows, Rong Heng let out a cold snort.
Obviously, all that cleverness isn’t being used for studying.
Of course she came in last.
This was exactly the kind of situation that happened when a parent failed to discipline their child properly.
And what did Ruan Shiqing do?
He saw the report card—And just pretended not to.
Shameless indulgence.
The crown prince was utterly disgusted.
Cubs needed proper education, not excessive pampering!
If this were his cub, she’d be getting an entire study regimen immediately.
With a deep sigh of frustration, Rong Heng shook his head, deeply disappointed in modern parenting methods.
Lmao not Rong Rong going full on strict parent mode!! We have one gentle daddy and one strict daddy on our hands lol
The cubs are so stinking cute though, naughty but loyal to each other :’))))
Thanks for reading!
For every three ko-fis, I will upload a bonus chapter~
Hahaha, somehow though, I feel like Rong Rong is going to be eating his own words very soon and that papa Ruan has his own methods ^_^
