Chapter 26
“Young Master Chi, don’t be upset,” Ding Xuxing said with a smile. “President Lu is simply admiring Zhouzhou; he has no other intentions. If this has caused any misunderstanding between you two, then it’s my little cousin’s fault.”
This man was eager to promote his cousin, as if he couldn’t wait for Lu Zhiyue to be consumed by lust and drag her to bed the very next second.
Chi Suinian was infamous in Jin City as a playboy. He had seen plenty of similar situations in nightclubs. But such dealings were usually done with an unspoken understanding in private. It was the first time he had seen someone like Ding Xuxing blatantly acting as a pimp.
Chi Suinian despised people like this the most.
Ding Xuxing wanted to collaborate with Lu Zhiyue? Well, Chi Suinian was going to ruin it for him.
Chi Suinian looked at Lu Zhiyue and raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you very busy?”
Lu Zhiyue replied, “Not too much.”
Chi Suinian’s face instantly darkened.
Lu Zhiyue chuckled. “Mm, now I am.”
Chi Suinian kicked his shoe and said, domineering and arrogant, “Then why aren’t you leaving?”
“Alright.” Lu Zhiyue didn’t spare Ding Xuxing and his cousin another glance and simply followed Chi Suinian out.
Ding Zhouzhou watched them leave, stomping her foot in frustration. “Cousin, didn’t you say Lu Zhiyue was still single? Why does he have a man with him?”
She frowned. “And you were way too hasty just now! You made it seem like I’m desperate to get married, making me look like a fool.”
“You don’t understand.” Ding Xuxing stared at the departing figures and scoffed. “Same-sex couples never last. The two of them are just putting on a show. Breaking up is only a matter of time.”
“Well, I’m not going to be a homewrecker.” Ding Zhouzhou muttered. She picked up her delicate handbag and left, her expression unpleasant. “I’m not obsessed with Lu Zhiyue anyway. I won’t tell Auntie about today, but don’t drag me into this kind of situation again. If my friends find out, they’ll laugh at me…”
She grumbled as she walked away, leaving Ding Xuxing standing there, face black with anger.

In the parking lot, Lu Heng and Tang Jin had been waiting in the car for a while. When they saw Chi Suinian approaching, Lu Heng rolled down the window. “There’s a nice hotpot restaurant nearby. Tang Jin just made a reservation. Want to come?”
Chi Suinian glanced at Tang Jin in the back seat, his foot still wrapped in bandages. “Your leg is still injured. Why are you running around instead of resting at home?”
Tang Jin casually swung his leg. “It’s nothing. I’ll be fine in a few days. After dinner, let’s go play ball.”
Chi Suinian lowered his voice. “If you don’t want your leg anymore, just say it.”
Tang Jin wagged a finger. “What are you thinking? I meant billiards. Ever since you were hospitalized, we haven’t played together. Come on, let’s go.”
Hearing this, Chi Suinian felt a little tempted. It had been a while since he played.
Just then, Lu Zhiyue rounded the corner and walked toward them.
Lu Heng glanced up and met Lu Zhiyue’s eyes. Something flickered in his mind, and he frowned slightly. “Forget it. Let’s do it another day. If I go home late tonight, my old man will break my legs.”
Tang Jin laughed. “Since when do you listen to your old man? Back when he was whipping you all over the place, you didn’t repent either. Now you’re pretending to be a good son?” He kicked the passenger seat. “Demon! Reveal your true form!”
Lu Heng: “…Idiot.”
Chi Suinian said, “Let’s reschedule. You’re injured anyway.” Then he turned to Lu Heng. “Take him home.”
Lu Heng asked, “What about you?”
Chi Suinian replied, “I’ll take a cab.”
Lu Heng glanced at Lu Zhiyue, who was watching them intently from a distance. He hesitated for a moment, then decided against saying anything.
“Just… be careful.”
Chi Suinian was amused. “Are you drunk?”
Lu Heng clicked his tongue. “Just remember what I said. Don’t trust people too easily. If you believe everything they say, you might end up getting sold off.”
Chi Suinian had no idea what was up with him but casually responded, “Got it. Now go already.”
After running around all morning without even getting a sip of water, Chi Suinian started looking around for a vending machine when he heard a voice behind him.
“Going home?”
“You’re still here?” Chi Suinian spotted two vending machines at the edge of the parking lot and started walking toward them.
“I was waiting for you.”
“…”
What, can’t find your way home without me?
Standing in the open air for a while cleared Chi Suinian’s mind a bit.
Even though this morning’s incident was just a misunderstanding, he still felt the need to clarify things with Lu Zhiyue. He despised deception. If Lu Zhiyue dared to lie to him again and pull some ridiculous surprise, he would burn down Lu Zhiyue’s house along with him.
“Lu Zhiyue,” he said slowly.
The man behind him hummed in response.
Chi Suinian stopped walking, tilted his head, and stared at him with a calm expression. “I’ll let today slide. But if you ever lie to me again—”
“I won’t.” Lu Zhiyue cut him off.
“…” Chi Suinian’s words got stuck in his throat.
Lu Zhiyue looked at him, dark eyes filled with sincerity, as if making a solemn vow. “This was the only time.”
Chi Suinian was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Lu Zhiyue to admit fault so easily. Lowering his gaze, he muttered, “…Good that you know.”
The hospital parking lot was crowded. The vending machines were fully stocked with drinks and snacks.
Chi Suinian scanned the options and automatically ignored plain water, focusing on the colorful sodas instead.
Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Zhiyue saw Chi Suinian’s finger move and select a small can of ice-cold Coke.
Just as he was about to pay, he suddenly heard a soft beep beside him.
Chi Suinian turned to see a phone stretched out in front of him, scanning the payment code. He pursed his lips. “My company may be on the verge of bankruptcy, but I can still afford a bottle of water. Who do you think you’re looking down on?”
With a thud, the vending machine dispensed a bottle.
A bottle of mineral water.
“I’m not looking down on you.” Lu Zhiyue handed him the room-temperature bottle. “Drink this instead.”
Seeing the bottle, Chi Suinian instantly got annoyed and was about to scold him.
But in the next second, Lu Zhiyue swiftly twisted off the cap and touched the rim of the bottle to his lips. “Your body was damaged two nights ago. You shouldn’t drink anything too stimulating.”
The parking lot was bustling, and a few girls happened to walk by. Hearing this, they instinctively turned to look.
“…”
Chi Suinian took a full five seconds to process what he meant by “damaged.”
Lu Zhiyue was out of his mind.
Discussing bedroom matters so openly in public with people walking around?!
His backside started to ache just from the thought.
Chi Suinian angrily snatched the bottle and muttered with red ears, “You really overestimate yourself. I’ve been fine for ages. No need for your fake concern.”
Hearing this, Lu Zhiyue’s gaze instinctively dropped. He raised an eyebrow. “Fine?”
Chi Suinian’s ears turned even redder. “Are you looking for a beating? Get lost.”
Then he turned and walked away, steps a little unsteady.
A few minutes later, sitting in the back of a cab, Chi Suinian looked down at the mineral water in his hand and suddenly felt like an idiot.
——
The taxi driver had been driving all day. The last two passengers had been silent, making the atmosphere dull. Glancing at the young man in the rearview mirror, he started a conversation.
“Where to, kid?”
Chi Suinian snapped back to reality, tossed the water bottle aside, and frowned as he gave an address.
“Whoa, rich folks, huh? The villas over there cost at least a hundred million each, right?”
Only then did Chi Suinian realize that he had subconsciously given Lu Zhiyue’s home address.
Had he started thinking of the Lu family’s house as his own?
Ridiculous.
He didn’t want to see Lu Zhiyue today, so he decided to go somewhere else for some peace and quiet.
Before he could decide where, his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket.
Seeing a message pop up in WeChat, Chi Suinian frowned and glanced at it before speaking.
“Driver, turn around. Take me to Jinghong Tower.”
“You got it.”
——
“What’s going on? The funds from the Lu Corporation still haven’t arrived?” Chi Suinian asked the moment he stepped into the office.
Qin Suitian waved off the secretary, assistants, and everyone else, closed the door, and said, “Not exactly. Half has arrived, half hasn’t.”
“?”
“What do you mean?”
“Do you remember having a bank card from Jincheng Bank?” Qin Suitian suddenly asked.
Chi Suinian rolled his eyes. “Is that why you called me here? Of course not. I have so many cards. Who remembers which bank each one is from?”
“Then we’re screwed.” Qin Suitian slumped into his chair. “Lu Zhiyue transferred the money into your personal account.”
Chi Suinian was startled. “A corporate-to-personal transfer?”
Qin Suitian looked defeated. “No, the money came from Lu Zhiyue’s personal account and was transferred directly to yours.”
“So?” Chi Suinian asked. “What do you mean by ‘half-arrived, half-not’?”
Qin Suitian sighed. “Do you remember your withdrawal password?”
For large deposits, a special password is required for withdrawals. This unique password can’t be changed in the short term. Qin Suitian was about to scratch his head bald in frustration.
Chi Suinian: “……”
What the hell was that?
“Oh, right. I forgot you lost your memory.” Qin Suitian said apologetically. “Sorry, I’ll figure something out myself.”
Chi Suinian was confused. “What’s the big deal? Just go to the bank and change the password.”
“Too late.” Qin Suitian groaned. “Before you lost your memory, you gave me a few important passwords. I just tried all of them, and none worked. The system locked me out. I have to wait until next week to try again.”
He paused before adding, “But our company project launches tomorrow.”
“……”
Great.
Another dead end.
Ever since he woke up a month ago, trouble had been non-stop. Chi Suinian didn’t even want to think about how many more headaches awaited him in the future.
“I used to write down important passwords. I’ll look for them at home,” Chi Suinian said.
“The old Chi family residence is sealed off. Where are you going to find anything?” Qin Suitian said. “I suggest you ask Lu Zhiyue.”
Chi Suinian sneered. “You’re joking, right?”
Qin Suitian hesitated but eventually spoke. “I wouldn’t joke about this. I’m serious. You were married to Lu Zhiyue for so long, and you had financial transactions before. He handled everything, so he might have the password.”
“……”
It felt like the whole world was reminding him about his marriage to Lu Zhiyue.
——
That evening, when Chi Suinian arrived home, he saw the driver, Lin Qi, walking out of the villa.
It looked like he had just dropped off Lu Zhiyue.
“Young Master Chi.” Lin Qi nodded politely in greeting.
“Lu Zhiyue’s home?” Chi Suinian asked.
Lin Qi hadn’t heard anyone call Lu Zhiyue by his full name in a long time. He was momentarily stunned before replying, “Yes, the boss just went upstairs.”
Chi Suinian nodded. “Thanks for your hard work.”
Lin Qi was caught off guard. “Not at all. It’s my job.”
Chi Suinian took a few steps toward the door, then suddenly stopped. “Do you know…”
Lin Qi tensed up and immediately pricked up his ears to listen carefully.
“Do you know where Lu Zhiyue keeps his confidential documents?”
Lin Qi’s eyes widened. “…I don’t know.”
Even if he did, he wouldn’t dare say! Chi Suinian obviously wasn’t just casually asking.
“Does he have a safe in his office?”
“…I don’t know.”
Chi Suinian thought for a moment. “Does he have backup records of his bank card passwords?”
“……” Lin Qi’s face drooped as he pleaded, “Young Master Chi, I really don’t know. I’m just a driver. I don’t have access to confidential information.”
Chi Suinian retracted his gaze and rubbed his nose. “Oh. You can go then.”
Lin Qi breathed a sigh of relief and practically ran away.
The rich and powerful were terrifying.
——
When Chi Suinian went upstairs, he saw that the guest bedroom door was open, and the lights were on.
He hesitated for a moment before stepping inside.
“Lu Zhiyue?”
The room was silent, the windows were open, and the air was fresh. The only sound was the faint noise of running water from the bathroom.
…Was he taking a shower?
The bathroom walls were semi-transparent. From Chi Suinian’s angle, he could vaguely make out a flesh-colored silhouette behind the glass.
Lu Zhiyue was tall, and as he lifted his arms, his muscular lines became visible through the mist.
Chi Suinian had been drunk the night before, but he hadn’t blacked out. He remembered everything he should. And now, standing outside the bathroom, watching Lu Zhiyue’s clear movements, the memories of that night crashed down on him like a landslide.
Warm skin, damp kisses, burning breaths against his ear…
Stop!
Chi Suinian pinched his fingers, the sharp pain snapping him back to reality.
Damn it.
What was he thinking?
Was he fantasizing about Lu Zhiyue in his room?
It had to be the water Lu Zhiyue gave him earlier—definitely drugged.
Frustrated, Chi Suinian ruffled his hair and turned to leave.
But just as he took a step—
“Click.”
The bathroom door opened.
A wave of warm steam billowed out.
Lu Zhiyue stood there with only a loosely wrapped towel slung low on his hips, like it could fall off with a single breeze.
Usually dressed in formal suits, he never seemed to stand out. But undressed, his toned physique was impossible to ignore. A fresh bite mark on his collarbone added an unexpectedly seductive touch.
Seeing Chi Suinian standing dumbfounded in his room, Lu Zhiyue raised an eyebrow.
“You looking for me?”
