ICAWZ Chapter 187

ARC 5: Male father

You Que was naturally afraid.

He was a poor young male—no household registration, no property, no wealth—and there wasn’t a single advantage about him. Now, he was living under the same roof as his father-in-law, so he had to perform well.

If You Que marked Sanya today, tomorrow the mark on the back of his neck would change color. Chairman Croney wasn’t blind—he’d understand everything at a glance. It was possible that he’d even think of him as a perverted glutton.

In the end, You Que only hugged Sanya and kissed him for a moment before letting go. He pretended not to see the expression on the female zerg’s face, as if he wanted to speak but held back. He turned and walked to the bed to change his clothes.

Sanya watched You Que’s back, feeling a lump in his throat: “Why didn’t you continue?”

You started a fire and then just let it burn out?

You Que was well aware of Sanya’s little mood. He raised his hand to unbutton his shirt, changing into a clean set of pajamas. His lean body flashed by in an instant, and with a half-smile, he said, “Didn’t you just say not to touch you?”

Sanya thought to himself, when did You Que become so obedient to his words? He slipped his hands into his pockets and slowly walked over to stand behind You Que. As if recalling something, he curved his lips slightly. “Actually, even if you did touch me, it wouldn’t matter.”

With You Que’s blood purity, he could at most just briefly mark him; a deep mark was impossible. However, saying this would hurt the male zerg’s pride. No matter how sharp-tongued Sanya was, he wouldn’t say something like that in front of You Que.

“First day back home, be honest.”

You Que didn’t understand the deeper meaning behind Sanya’s words. He lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed, pulling Sanya up with him. You Que was still troubled by the matter of the female zerg’s wings being forcibly ripped off. After turning off the lights, and as the room sank into darkness, his eyes finally revealed a trace of unease.

You Que: “You said your family has offended many enemies—does it have anything to do with that male zerg who harmed you back then?”

Sanya quietly opened his eyes in the darkness after hearing the words, then slowly closed them again, softly murmuring “Mm”: “That male zerg’s family has some power in the south. They’ve been suppressing us both openly and secretly. Laimi and Laixing’s military achievements are among the best, and at their age, they should have already been promoted to second lieutenant and sent to the capital for studies. But they’re still lieutenants. If it weren’t for my dad holding things down at home, they’d probably have been bullied long ago…”

Sanya paused for a moment before continuing: “My dad’s health was never good, and these past few years, he’s been worn out from overwork. It’s what caused him to get sick.”

You Que reached out and pulled him into his arms: “Go to sleep. Tomorrow morning, we’ll go to the hospital to see him.”

This was their first time sharing a bed. Sanya closed his eyes, feeling his heartbeat speed up a little. But when he pressed his ear against You Que’s chest, he realized that the other’s heartbeat was even faster than his own.

He really wanted to… dig it out…

But it wasn’t out of hatred; it was simply because he liked him too much.

Sanya licked his lips, feeling a bit regretful. He reached out and hugged You Que’s waist, eventually finding a comfortable position in his arms and falling asleep.

The next morning, Chairman Croney took Sanya and You Que to the hospital. Laimi and Laixing didn’t accompany them, as they had to go to the military department for work.

Sanya’s father, Lord Russell, was hospitalized for heart problems. However, thanks to the advanced technology of the Zerg race, after receiving treatment for a period of time, his condition had improved significantly.

When You Que reached the door of the high-level intensive care unit, he saw a male zerg dressed in a hospital gown sitting inside. The male looked young, no more than thirty years old, and had a rather refined and approachable demeanor.

Thinking of this, You Que couldn’t help but glance at Sanya, wondering to himself that the female zerg must have inherited his looks from Chairman Croney. He was indeed handsome, but not as gentle as Lord Russell.

Sanya stood at the door of the hospital room, looking at his dad’s frail and sickly appearance. His hand, hanging by his side, quietly clenched into a fist. For a moment, he couldn’t quite pinpoint what he was feeling.

Chairman Croney said, “Your dad’s heart isn’t in good condition. To avoid scaring him, I’ll go in first. I’ll call for you to come in later.”

Sanya nodded silently.

You Que also said, “Please go ahead. We’ll wait outside.”

Chairman Croney then pushed the door open and entered. After he entered the room, he gently closed the door and called out to the male zerg sitting on the bed, “My lord.”

Russell, who had been reading, turned the book over and set it aside when he saw Croney. He asked in confusion, “Why are you here so early today? It’s not even noon yet.”

Croney grabbed a pillow and placed it behind him. “I took the day off. There’s nothing to do at home, so I came to keep you company.”

Russell said, “I’ve already asked the doctor. I can be discharged in a couple of days. After tomorrow’s check-up, I’ll go home to avoid you having to run back and forth.”

You Que stood outside the door, observing quietly. After a moment, he withdrew his gaze and sat with Sanya on the bench in the corridor. He casually remarked, “You don’t really look much like your dad.”

Sanya shot him a sideways glance. “In what way?”

You Que replied, “In every way.”

Sanya: “…”

Sanya knew what You Que was trying to say. He was just implying that he wasn’t as gentle as his father. With a forced smile, he said, “Don’t let my dad’s good temper fool you. When he gets angry, our whole family is afraid of him.”

Hearing this, You Que lightly tapped his fingers on his knee and suddenly felt that this “father-in-law” might be a bit tricky. “So, when we go in later, if he doesn’t like me, he won’t kick me out, right?”

Sanya was puzzled. “Why wouldn’t he like you?”

Sanya thought that You Que was perfect in every way, except for being an unregistered citizen, which made it impossible for them to get a marriage certificate. Apart from that, there was really nothing to criticize.

You Que glanced at Sanya with a smile. “I’m not a noble, and my blood purity isn’t very high. Wouldn’t he feel it’s beneath him?”

Sanya dismissed the idea. “What’s the big deal? My dad isn’t a noble either. He used to be a commoner from the lower district. He only moved to the upper district after marrying my father.”

You Que was somewhat surprised upon hearing this. “Your dad isn’t a noble? How did he end up with a noble like your female father?”

Sanya didn’t know much about his parents’ past, so when he heard this, he hesitated and replied, “Maybe it’s because my dad is handsome?”

You Que: “…”

This whole family is obsessed with looks.

After thinking it over, You Que still felt something was off. He got up from the bench and said, “I’ll go downstairs to buy some supplements to bring up. You stay here and wait for me.”

Sanya stretched out his long legs, blocking him. “I’ve told you, you don’t need to buy those things.”

You Que replied, “This is our first time meeting, and your dad is still in the hospital. I can’t show up empty-handed.”

Hearing this, Sanya had no choice but to stand up. He took his wallet out of his pocket, pulled out a star card, and handed it to You Que. “I was also thinking of buying something for my dad. You can pick whatever seems appropriate.”

The cost of living in Central City was several times higher than in the small town of Saint Lieux. He was simply worried that You Que might not have enough money.

You Que declined. “I have enough money. You stay here. I’ll be back soon.”

After speaking, he walked straight to the elevator and hurried downstairs.

Sanya watched You Que’s retreating figure before reluctantly putting the card back into his wallet. He returned to his seat and, as if recalling something, his gaze became distant for a moment.

In fact, his father hadn’t married his dad just because he was good-looking. It was more because he liked him—who could resist a gentle and considerate male zerg?

You Que was completely worrying for nothing—how could Sanya’s parents not like him?

Not far from the Central Hospital was a large shopping mall. You Que went in and took a look around, but he didn’t buy any random gift boxes or supplements. Instead, he carefully picked out some different kinds of fruits from the fruit section, along with some yogurt, caramel biscuits, and other snacks before heading to the checkout.

The area of uncontaminated planting soil on Salaranfa was so small that the fruits grown there didn’t have much sweetness. At best, they were just refreshing with a decent texture and moisture, yet their prices were much higher than the supplements.

When You Que was checking out, because he was a male zerg, he got a special 8.8% discount. Even so, he still ended up spending over 5,000 star coins.

The cashier handed the change to You Que with both hands. Because it was rare to see such a handsome male zerg, he couldn’t help but glance at him a couple more times. “Your Excellency, here’s your change. We look forward to your next visit.”

“Thank you.”

You Que stuffed the change into his pocket and turned to leave the mall. As he passed by a hair salon, he suddenly noticed several “black heads” inside, causing him to furrow his brows in suspicion.

The salon seemed to be doing quite well, but most of the customers inside were male zergs getting their hair dyed. The employee at the door, seeing You Que stop, immediately brightened and hurried over with a flyer to make a pitch:

“Your Excellency, may I ask if you’re interested in a haircut? Our salon has recently launched a ‘Natural Black’ package. For just 2999 star coins, you can get the same hair color as pureblood male zergs. Don’t just be tempted, act now!”

You Que shifted the heavy shopping bag to one hand, feeling even more puzzled. “What do you mean, ‘pureblood male zerg style’?”

The employee sized You Que up, thinking to himself, Where did this male zerg pop out from? “You must not have seen the Star Network. The Empire has recently discovered three pureblood male zergs—one in the north, one in the west, and one in the south. They all have black hair and black eyes, and black has become the trend. Just look at how busy our shop is.”

“If you’re interested, you’ll need to hurry and make an appointment. We’re already up to over forty zergs in the queue.”

Upon hearing this, You Que lost interest. He already had black hair, so why would he need to dye it?

“Thank you, but no.”

He shrugged off the employee’s persistent sales pitch and slowly headed in the direction of the hospital, but his mind was occupied with another thought. The Empire had recently discovered three pureblood male zergs, all of whom had black hair and black eyes. Could it be that all three of them were human?

Human? Pureblood?

As You Que thought about this, he couldn’t help but wonder if he might be a pureblood himself.

But getting a blood test required going to the hospital, and if he wasn’t, that would make things awkward. Besides, You Que had never had much luck in life, and he didn’t really believe that something as rare as being a “pureblood” would happen to him.

Just as You Que dismissed the thought in his mind and was walking quickly toward the hospital, he suddenly heard shouting from behind, as if someone was calling his name. He turned around, but all he saw was a crowd of zergs, and the voice quickly faded.

You Que thought to himself that he was unfamiliar with the area in the south, and aside from Sanya, he didn’t know anyone here. So, how could someone be calling his name? He snapped back to his senses and continued walking forward, but then, suddenly, someone grabbed his shoulder with force, and a surprised voice rang in his ear:

“You Que!”

These two words were incredibly clear, loud, and bright, making them impossible to ignore.

You Que was startled and turned around, only to see a young man with black hair and black eyes who had somehow appeared behind him. It was none other than the boy from his hometown, the one who had fallen off the cliff with him during their ride: “Ah Sui?!”

“You Que, is it really you?!”

The young man, seeing that You Que recognized him, became even more excited. “I saw a male passing by the mall just now, and his profile looked a bit like yours, so I followed him. I didn’t expect it to really be you! When I fell off the cliff back then, I searched for you nearby for a long time…”

“Shh—”

You Que, seeing that Ah Sui was getting carried away, frowned and gestured for him to be quiet. He glanced around, and seeing an outdoor rest area not far ahead, he dragged Ah Sui over and found a secluded spot to sit down.

“This is the Zerg world. If zergs find out about our background, it could cause trouble. Keep your voice down.”

Ah Sui, upon hearing this, finally realized that they were near a shopping mall. He placed the ancient-style long sword he was holding on the table, covered his mouth, and nervously nodded. “I was just too happy when I saw you.”

To be honest, You Que hadn’t expected to run into a hometown acquaintance here either. “How did you end up in the south?”

Ah Sui replied, “It’s a long story. When the tourist bus fell off the cliff, I ended up falling into a dense forest with Brother Cenfeng. Later, he went north, and I followed Blairand to the west. This time, I came back to the south to visit my relatives.”

After saying that, Ah Sui seemed a bit embarrassed and added, “Blairand is my partner.”

Upon hearing this, a trace of surprise flickered in You Que’s eyes. He hadn’t expected that the seemingly innocent young man in front of him would have already found a partner. “Blairand? The young chief from the south?”

Ah Sui nodded. “You know him?”

You Que replied, “Not really. I’ve just seen him on the Star Network. I heard he found a pureblood male with black hair and black eyes as his partner. Didn’t expect it to be you.”

You Que had originally planned to order two drinks, but seeing the long line at the nearby restaurant, he gave up on the idea. He took a bottle of yogurt and a piece of fruit from the shopping bag and placed them in front of Ah Sui. After a moment’s hesitation, he asked, “Is your blood purity 100%?”

Ah Sui scratched his head and said cluelessly, “Actually, I don’t really know what happened. When I was sick and hospitalized, I accidentally got my blood tested, and for some reason, I became a pureblood. And then there’s Brother Cenfeng, he’s the pureblood male in the north…”

As Ah Sui spoke, he suddenly seemed to realize something, looking at You Que in surprise. “Could it be that you’re a pureblood too?!”

You Que’s expression remained calm. “I don’t know. I haven’t had a blood test yet. After all, humans and the Zerg species have different body structures. I’m worried I might be discovered if something seems off.”

Ah Sui pointed to his hair. “Actually, ever since the Empire discovered three pureblood males with black hair and black eyes, the military has been secretly looking for other males with black hair and black eyes to test their blood. I guess since your hair and eyes are brown, you haven’t been detected.”

“If you want to get your blood tested, I can ask Blairand to help. If something goes wrong, he can cover it up.”

You Que couldn’t help but feel somewhat moved. After all, he was still an undocumented citizen, and regardless of whether his blood purity was high or low, just getting an ID card would be good enough. “That works…”

Before he could finish his sentence, his wrist terminal suddenly beeped twice. It was a message from Sanya, urging him to return.

Ah Sui asked in confusion, “Do you have something urgent to attend to?”

You Que thought to himself that it really was an urgent matter—meeting his father-in-law certainly qualified as urgent. He stood up from his seat and bid Ah Sui farewell, saying, “I just remembered I have something to do at the hospital. I can’t chat right now, but I’ll contact you later.”

After speaking, he tapped his wrist terminal against Ah Sui’s to establish a communication link. With that, he hurriedly grabbed the shopping bag and made his way toward the hospital, leaving Ah Sui standing there, puzzled and unable to make sense of the situation.

Not long after You Que left, a silver-white sports car pulled up near the mall, honking at Ah Sui from a short distance away.

Ah Sui, seeing the car, quickly picked up his sword and walked over. Before leaving, he didn’t forget to take the yogurt and fruit You Que had given him. He opened the car door, got in, and smiled at the golden-haired female sitting in the driver’s seat, saying, “Blairand, the mall in the south is huge. I spent half a day there and still didn’t finish exploring it.”

“Here, I got you some yogurt.”

The female called Blairand had beautiful golden curly hair that reached down to his waist, tied up with a silk ribbon. His light blue eyes appeared somewhat cool, but hearing Ah Sui’s words, his expression softened with a smile, making him seem as refreshing as a spring breeze. “When the military has some free time in a few days, I’ll take you around properly… But why did you buy yogurt?”

Blairand remembered that he had prepared a fridge full of fruit drinks for Ah Sui at home.

Ah Sui: “It wasn’t me who bought it. A friend of mine gave it to me. I saw him at the mall just now and sat down to chat for a bit.”

Blairand voiced his confusion: “You’ve just arrived in the south. Where did you get a friend from?”

Ah Sui explained, “He’s a friend from my hometown. I originally thought I wouldn’t be able to find him, but I didn’t expect he would also come to the South.”

Blairand’s heart skipped a beat when he heard this: “Your hometown?”

The three pureblooded males that had appeared in the empire were all intricately connected to Ah Sui. Now, another one appeared? Could it be…?

Blairand casually asked, “Do you know his blood purity?”

Ah Sui, not really understanding the full implications, said, “He hasn’t had the chance to get tested yet. If he wants to, would you mind checking for him privately? He might be a pureblood like me.”

Blairand smiled lightly, “There’s no problem with that. But did you get his contact information?”

Ah Sui waved his wrist terminal, “I got it.”

Blairand, in a thoughtful tone, said, “When you have some free time, arrange to meet him. If he really is pure-blooded, Father will be thrilled to know.”
