Chapter 30
Tang Jin and Lu Heng just stood there, watching as Lu Zhiyue followed Chi Suinian into a room.
“Suinian actually… just let Lu Zhiyue move in like that?” Tang Jin patted Lu Heng’s arm. “Am I dreaming?”
Lu Heng pinched his arm. “Does it hurt?”
“Ow, ow, ow!” Tang Jin rubbed his arm with a dazed expression. “It’s only been a little over a month, and they’re already at the stage of sharing a bed?”
Lu Heng said, “Didn’t Suinian say he was making him sleep on the floor?”
“Pfft.” Tang Jin scoffed. “Do you really believe Lu Zhiyue would obediently sleep on the floor?”
Lu Heng: “Nope.”
“Exactly.”
Tang Jin gazed at the closed door and sighed deeply. “I should start preparing for the day when the truth comes out and I have to beg Suinian for forgiveness.”
Lu Heng asked, “What are you preparing?”
“A cast, splints,” Tang Jin counted on his fingers, “crutches, bandages, a neck brace… If I wear all of them, Suinian might not beat me to death when he sees me, right?”
“No,” Lu Heng replied. “He’ll be even more at ease beating you up because you’ve already prepared everything for your own funeral.”
Tang Jin: “…”
—
Inside the room, Chi Suinian silently pulled over his suitcase, intending to hang up his spare clothes in the wardrobe.
But as soon as he opened it, he saw that the other side of the wardrobe was already neatly filled with Lu Zhiyue’s clothes.
When did Lu Zhiyue put them in there? Didn’t he have his own suitcase? Why was he putting them together with his? As if their relationship was harmonious or something.
“I’ll do it,” Lu Zhiyue crouched beside him.
Chi Suinian: “No need.”
“Consider it as paying for the room.”
Chi Suinian paused and blurted out, “You think such a small task is enough to cover the rent? Are you that expensive?”
Lu Zhiyue answered naturally, “Mhm, most people can’t afford me.”
Show-off.
Whatever.
It was a bit warm in the room since the air conditioning had just been turned on and hadn’t cooled down the space yet. Chi Suinian didn’t feel like moving at all.
Lying on the bed, he turned his head toward the wardrobe, his gaze unconsciously drifting toward Lu Zhiyue.
Saying he was organizing clothes, he was actually smoothing out each piece meticulously before neatly hanging them up by color, from light to dark.
He really was good at housework.
Chi Suinian stared at him for a while before saying, “You seem quite skilled at this. If you ever accidentally go bankrupt, at least you won’t starve doing housekeeping.”
Lu Zhiyue lifted his eyes. “Would you hire me?”
Chi Suinian hesitated for a moment before turning away. “No. If you starve, you deserve it.”
“Then I’ll work harder to avoid bankruptcy.”
Yeah, right.
Leaving behind a whole pile of company affairs to go on vacation during a workweek—if the Lu Corporation didn’t go bankrupt, there would be no justice in the world. Chi Suinian ridiculed him internally.
Halfway through organizing, Lu Zhiyue found that there weren’t enough hangers. He walked over to the nightstand and made a call. “Hello, can you connect me to room service? I need some hangers… Alright, thank you.”
Just hearing that annoyed Chi Suinian. “Do you really have that many clothes to hang? Why are you so fussy…?”
His complaint was cut off abruptly because, when he turned around, he saw Lu Zhiyue holding two very familiar-looking pairs of underwear.
Chi Suinian shot up in an instant and snatched them away, his ears burning red. “…Who said you could touch my underwear?!”
Lu Zhiyue: “I was hanging up clothes.”
Chi Suinian retorted, “That doesn’t mean you can touch them!”
“You’re being unreasonable.” Lu Zhiyue chuckled. “I’ve already seen everything before. Why so shy? Anyway, hang them up yourself, then.”
“Get lost!”
The hotel soon delivered the hangers. Chi Suinian hung up his underwear himself.
When he opened the wardrobe, he noticed two pairs of black, four-cornered underwear hanging there, much larger than his.
“…”
His face darkened. He shoved them into the corner with a shirt and then hung his own as far away as possible.
—
Just as he finished, Tang Jin messaged the group chat, telling them to meet at the venue behind the hotel.
Chi Suinian replied with a simple “Got it.” As he stepped out of the room, he heard footsteps behind him and stopped. “Why are you following me?”
“I have nothing to do, and I didn’t make plans with anyone. I’m a bit bored,” Lu Zhiyue said, looking at him. “Can I come with you?”
His tone was neutral, his eyes slightly lowered, making him look like a forsaken wife who had been abandoned. It was as if leaving him behind would make Chi Suinian a heartless scumbag.
Chi Suinian cursed internally.
This guy was acting again!
“Fine, come if you want, but if you say anything stupid, I’ll kick you.”
Lu Zhiyue smiled. “Alright.”
The resort was newly built, and the facilities were still fresh. There were many themed attractions in the mountains behind the hotel, making the whole place lively.
Tang Jin had chosen a live-action shooting game at the foot of the mountain. As Chi Suinian navigated through the crowd, he immediately spotted Tang Jin, who was sitting in a wheelchair atop a haystack, excitedly waving a megaphone—looking even more thrilled than the actual players.
He turned his head and immediately noticed Chi Suinian and Lu Zhiyue—not because of good eyesight, but because the two of them were tall and handsome, standing out in the crowd.
“Suinian! Over here, over here! Do you see me?” Tang Jin nearly waved his arms off like a windshield wiper.
Chi Suinian walked over. “Where’s Lu Heng?”
“He and Xu Qing are changing in the locker room. They provide camouflage suits here—super professional. You should get changed too,” Tang Jin said before peeking at Lu Zhiyue. “President Lu, are you playing too?”
Lu Zhiyue glanced at Chi Suinian. “Can I?”
Tang Jin: ?
Chi Suinian frowned and said impatiently, “…Why are you asking me?”
Lu Zhiyue looked innocent. “I don’t have a team.”
This guy was addicted to acting. Chi Suinian ignored him, took a set of clothes from the counter, and went to the locker room.
As soon as he entered, Lu Zhiyue’s indifferent expression returned. He tapped his fingers on the counter. “One set of clothes, please.”
The girl at the counter blushed slightly and stammered, “O-Okay. You’re tall, so I’ll get you a bigger size.”
After he went in, she quickly checked her phone and excitedly messaged a group chat:
[Girls! There are two insanely hot guys at the live-action battle today! SUPER HANDSOME! I think their team is short on people, hurry and join! If I weren’t already taken, I’d go myself!]
She then attached two secretly taken photos.
[Hot guys! Two of them!]
[Those looks, those legs, those eyes—I’m losing it.]
[Are you sure they’re single?]
[The one with the grumpy face is my type. Don’t fight me for him.]
[You keep fangirling, I’m going in.]
[WTF, unfair!]
[Why do hot guys always show up when I’m away?!]
After changing, Chi Suinian received a call from Chi Yu.
“Brother, you’re not home? Are you out playing?”
Chi Suinian still wasn’t used to Chi Yu’s sudden change in attitude. He paused before asking, “Are you at the Lu family house?”
“Yeah, I’ve been here for a while, but Uncle Zhang said he didn’t know when you’d be back. Are you coming home today?”
Chi Suinian lowered his gaze. “No. What do you need?”
“Uh, I wanted to invite you to my birthday party next Sunday. Don’t worry, only my closest friends are coming—no adults… Do you have time?”
Chi Suinian was silent for a moment before replying, “I’ll see. If I’m free, I’ll consider it.”
“Great! I’ll send you the time and place later.”
After hanging up, Chi Suinian stored his phone and clothes in a locker.
When he stepped out, he ran into Tang Jin and the others.
“Pfft, Lu Heng, you look ridiculous. Did you grab the wrong size? You look like an idiot,” Tang Jin laughed so hard he almost fell out of his wheelchair.
Lu Heng had gained some weight recently, and the snug outfit made his belly and butt look big.
Tang Jin was dying of laughter.
Lu Heng looked at Xu Qing. His outfit wasn’t stunning, but at least it fit properly.
“Fuck, why does your suit fit so well?” Lu Heng angrily turned to the counter. “Your sizing is messed up! The collar and sleeves are too tight. Give me a bigger size.”
The counter girl stifled a laugh. “Sorry, that’s our largest size.”
Lu Heng fumed, “Your sizing is terrible! Anyone would look ugly in this!”
Just then, the girl suddenly looked past him, her eyes lighting up in awe.
“…Wow.”
Lu Heng turned around.
Standing at the fitting room entrance was Chi Suinian, his hair slightly tousled, hands casually tucked into his pockets. The loose fabric of the outfit cinched slightly at the waist, following the smooth lines of his body down to his straight, long legs—looking effortlessly handsome.
Lu Heng: “…”
So I’m the only one who looks ugly, huh?
“Brother Nian, this outfit really suits you,” Xu Qing said with admiration. “It looks like it was tailor-made for you.”
Lu Heng glanced at Chi Suinian, then looked down at himself: “…”
With this outfit, he was basically saying goodbye to dating beautiful women.
Lu Heng knocked on the front desk. “This outfit doesn’t work for me. Get me something more suitable.”
The receptionist looked troubled. “This is a new design. If you want something larger, we only have the older styles available. Is that okay?”
Lu Heng thought for a moment and agreed.
Xu Qing hesitated for a moment beside him and said, “Then I’ll go change too.”
Chi Suinian nodded.
As he glanced around the store, he didn’t see Lu Zhiyue anywhere. He paused for a second but then shrugged it off.
He was probably too annoyed and left.
Since it wasn’t time for the game yet, Chi Suinian decided to find a place to rest for a while.
“Hey, handsome…”
A voice came from behind him.
Chi Suinian turned his head.
A few young women stood nearby, all dressed in form-fitting military-style tank tops and green cargo pants, their hair tied back neatly.
“Um…”
One of the girls met his gaze and suddenly felt nervous, stumbling over her words.
She paused for a moment before blurting out, “Are you here for the live-action shooting game? Are you alone? Do you need teammates? I’m one of the playmates here—I can give you a discount!”
Chi Suinian was momentarily surprised. Tang Jin had mentioned that this place offered playmates, but he hadn’t expected them to be all girls.
This kind of game involved a lot of physical contact, and these girls were dressed so lightly—teaming up with them would make it hard for him to focus.
“Half-price discount,” the girl continued when she saw him staying silent. “I guarantee you’ll experience the full thrill of the battlefield. I promise to make sure you have a great time!”
Chi Suinian looked at her for a moment before shaking his head. “No need.”
The girl was a little disappointed. “Why not? Are you worried we’ll drag you down? We’ve been trained, we’re professionals—you can trust us to have your back!”
Chi Suinian glanced over at Lu Heng and Xu Qing and said, “I already have teammates. I don’t need a playmate.”
The girl looked at the three of them and smiled. “But you’re still one person short! A three-person team is exhausting. I can carry supplies for you.”
These playmates were really enthusiastic about recruiting customers.
“Or…”
Chi Suinian was just about to refuse when the girl suddenly changed tactics. “How about we add each other on WeChat?”
At that moment, Lu Zhiyue walked out of the changing room and immediately saw Chi Suinian surrounded by a group of vibrant young women, looking slightly at a loss.
Lu Zhiyue frowned.
He had only left to change clothes, and now Chi Suinian was already surrounded by beautiful women asking for his WeChat. Their intentions were obviously not pure.
There was a green tea schemer back at home, and now there were beauties flirting with him outside.
Lu Zhiyue had never felt his marriage life was this turbulent before.
“Can I?” The girl plucked up the courage to ask. “Just as friends! If you come again next time, I can take care of you for free.”
There was no reason for Chi Suinian to come back to the same place again, and he wasn’t interested in making new friends. Just as he was about to refuse, he suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder.
A familiar pinewood scent surrounded him from behind as Lu Zhiyue pulled him into his arms, his tone flat. “We’re a four-person team, so we don’t need a playmate. Thanks.”
“Ah…” The girl stared at their close posture, momentarily stunned.
So… these two handsome guys were together?
Well, that was a wasted effort.
As she was about to leave, she glanced up and saw that her crush suddenly had a fierce expression, looking like he was about to explode in anger.
She was confused for a moment.
Then, she saw him slap away the hand on his shoulder while the taller man behind him just smiled indulgently.
She suddenly understood everything.
“Alright then, hope you guys have fun!” The girl blinked playfully before pulling her friends away.
Maybe they felt it was too much of a shame, so they didn’t go far before starting to chat among themselves.
Chi Suinian had sharp hearing and caught snippets of their conversation—phrases like “tsundere bottom and doting top,” “perfect match,” and “these two are definitely in love.”
His face darkened.
He turned to glare at Lu Zhiyue. “We can team up, but don’t touch me. Otherwise…”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
“…” Chi Suinian felt like he had punched cotton, annoyed and frustrated. He turned around and stormed off.
The shooting game area was designed to fully simulate PUBG, with only a few modifications in the details.
The battlefield was set in an abandoned village, with about thirty houses in total. The area wasn’t large, only allowing five teams to play at once.
As soon as Lu Heng entered, he excitedly rushed into a run-down house, rummaging through everything. “Real-life gunfight—this is awesome! Let me see what kind of guns they’ve got.”
“Brother Nian,” Xu Qing glanced around nervously, “this is my first time playing live-action shooting… Why does it feel kind of creepy?”
It wasn’t that Xu Qing was timid—it was just that the setting was too realistic.
The abandoned village was in ruins, with moss-covered walls and broken stones covering the ground.
Stepping on them sent echoes bouncing through the empty houses.
It was the perfect filming location for a horror movie.
Chi Suinian liked the atmosphere. Since it was so realistic, he casually pushed open a door and said, “Let’s find some guns first.”
“Oh.” Xu Qing looked around again, still feeling like something was watching him. It made his skin crawl.
He didn’t want to bother Chi Suinian, who was busy looting supplies.
So he turned to the only other person nearby—Lu Zhiyue, who looked like a seasoned pro.
“President Lu,” Xu Qing tiptoed closer. “Don’t you think this place feels eerie?”
He didn’t expect a response since Lu Zhiyue didn’t seem like the type to be scared.
Lu Zhiyue’s expression remained calm as he leisurely followed behind the team, looking more like he was on a haunted house tour than a battlefield.
“It is a little creepy,” Lu Zhiyue suddenly said, his gaze fixed on the person ahead.
Xu Qing: “?”
Surprised, he asked, “Wait… you’re scared too?”
Lu Zhiyue didn’t answer directly. After a brief pause, he said in a low voice, “This place does feel a bit eerie.”
Chi Suinian, who had heard everything, pursed his lips and silently cursed.
A grown man afraid of ghosts—how embarrassing.
If he was so scared, why did he even come here? Was he trying to drag them down?
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the far end of the village—the other teams had encountered each other and started fighting.
Xu Qing panicked. “Game’s starting, and I still don’t have any ammo! I don’t care if it’s haunted—I need to loot more houses!”
Just as he ran off, an old tree by the road shook, and a crow flapped its wings, letting out two eerie caws.
Behind him, footsteps suddenly stopped.
Chi Suinian turned back—Lu Zhiyue was standing completely still under the tree.
Like he had been scared stiff.
“…”
Chi Suinian clicked his tongue in frustration and shoved a gun into his hands. “Take this. Don’t slow me down.”
