“Chen Jiu, you think you can become Mrs. Qian? Dream on!”
“Chen Jiu, the fact that you even became a concubine is already a favor to you. Master has been more than kind to you, and you should remember his goodness.”
“Master particularly looks down on you, do you know why?”
“You definitely don’t know, but as a sister, how can I bear to let my brother be deceived?”
“When you lost your virginity to Master, it was truly an accident. According to our plan, we wanted to send you to that fool in Shui Lian Village, but who knew you were so cunning? Not only did you avoid getting pregnant with Silly Zhao, you also managed to climb into Master’s bed!”
“Master has always wanted to marry me. Since you schemed against him, he couldn’t tolerate it. So, all those unpleasant things that happened to you afterwards were very satisfying for me to watch.”
Chen Jiu lay miserably on the cold dungeon floor, raising his head to coldly gaze at the woman standing before him in luxurious, resplendent clothing. Listening to the woman’s sweet yet immensely cruel voice, he wished he could drink her blood and eat her flesh.
But now, not only was his appearance ruined, his entire body was crippled, making even crawling a luxury, let alone seeking revenge.
The woman looked at his miserable state and coldly laughed. Her gentle voice, which seemed to come from the depths of hell, continued.
“But there is one thing, brother, that you will certainly be surprised to hear. Yet, sister still wants to tell you.”
“Do you know why my Master and I were able to leave Shui Lian Village, meet distinguished people, and achieve the great feat of “following the dragon’s success*”? Do you know how Master was granted an official title and immense wealth, vast lands and properties, and I was able to be bestowed the title of a first-rank noblewoman? It was all because of you, brother!”
*TN: Success derived from the support or influence of a powerful person or entity
“If it weren’t for the jade pendant you gave us, how could we have been so successful?”
“As for the secret within the jade pendant, go ask that vile father of yours down in hell!”
As soon as the voice fell, the woman’s face instantly became hideous.
She raised her hand, a sharp knife lay across Chen Jiu’s neck, swiping it swiftly.
Blood gushed out, dyeing the bluestone floor of the dungeon red.
As Chen Jiu’s vision gradually became blurred, he was not sad, but more relieved.
If there is an afterlife, he will no longer foolishly give out what was his, and he will never give money to Chen Ling, to that pair of dog men and women!
…
Chen Jiu looked in slight shock at the simple mud-brick black-tiled house and the half-open wooden window before him. The bed he lay on was made up of two long benches and a few wooden planks, with four wooden pillars supporting a thick mosquito net that already had several holes.
A few mosquitoes were sticking to the top of the net, and one of them took the opportunity to fiercely bite his fair and handsome face while he wasn’t paying attention.
The slight pain cleared Chen Jiu’s groggy mind a bit. Just as he was about to pinch himself to see if he was dreaming, the door creaked open.
A girl of about thirteen or fourteen entered. Her long hair was braided into two scorpion braids hanging on either side of her head. Her beautiful fair face was adorned with a gentle smile that made people feel tender affection at first sight.
In the past, Chen Jiu had been deceived by the gentle appearance of this half-sister of his, listening to everything she said. He had even handed over the relics left by his father to her, just so that she and that person wouldn’t have to suffer so much when they went out.
But how could he have known that this pair of despicable people had long had their eyes on his jade pendant!
Now, looking at the hypocritical smile on Chen Ling’s face, Chen Jiu recalled the days in his previous life when he had been tortured in the dungeon, living a life worse than death. He instantly felt a chill all over his body, and his pupils slightly contracted.
Seeing Chen Jiu’s timid appearance, the cold sneer in Chen Ling’s eyes flashed by.
Such an idiot dares to compete with me for Brother Yun; it’s simply a fool’s dream!
However, her face still wore a gentle smile. She gracefully stepped to the front of the bed and softly asked, “Brother, are you feeling better?”
Chen Jiu closed his eyes to conceal the hatred in his gaze, and when he opened them again, they were clear.
“Better. Thank you for your concern, little sister.” Chen Jiu sat up and spoke softly.
His voice was somewhat hoarse, and after saying this, he continuously coughed.
