ARIBASIEI chapter 1

The night was dark, with lightning flashing and thunder roaring across the sky. At that moment, heavy rain and strong winds lashed the city of Shen.

A nanny van was driving along the main road when it suddenly collided with an oncoming large truck, shattering the silence of the night.

In the back seat of the nanny van, Chi Yan was resting with her eyes closed. Hearing the screeching of tires against the ground, she asked, “What’s going on?”

“Miss Chi,” the driver, sweating profusely, replied anxiously, “that truck ahead—if it doesn’t brake, we’re going to crash!”

Chi Yan clenched her palm and asked, “Can you turn—”

Bang!

It was too late. The moment she saw a flash of white light, her consciousness faded into darkness.

“Do you believe that if I complain to your dad, he’ll scold you without hesitation?” Yang Yueyi spoke, pausing briefly to build up her emotions before suddenly shouting, “Uncle, sister is bullying me!”

Chi Yan looked at Yang Yueyi, who had a smile hanging on her lips, and felt puzzled—this scene looked exactly like the day that scumbag brought home his mistress and her daughter years ago.

Back then, Yang Yueyi had cried and complained just like this, and Chi Hongzheng had blindly punished her without question.

Chi Yan couldn’t stand this fake act anymore. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped Yang Yueyi across the face.

“Now this is called bullying!”

The slap wasn’t loud, but it stunned Yang Yueyi. She stood frozen in place, covering the spot where she had just been hit, as if she couldn’t believe Chi Yan had actually dared to strike her.

“You… you actually hit me?!” It didn’t take long for Yang Yueyi to snap out of it. She glared at Chi Yan in shock, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Chi Yan sneered, “Hitting you only dirties my hands. You and your mistress of a mother—pathetic.”

Yang Yueyi had never been mocked like this before. Furious, she shrieked and lunged at Chi Yan. “How dare you insult my mother?!”

Chi Yan didn’t dodge—she had already heard footsteps coming from upstairs. The scumbag must have heard Yang Yueyi’s screams and was rushing down to defend her.

Pretending to be startled, she stayed still. But subtly, she stretched her right foot forward.

As expected, Yang Yueyi tripped over Chi Yan’s foot and fell flat onto the floor.

“Ah! Chi Yan, you wretched—!” Yang Yueyi’s sharp scream echoed through the living room.

Chi Yan ignored her. She had just spotted her mother and immediately ran over, hugging her tightly. “Mom, I missed you so much…”

Two years ago, her mother had passed away in the hospital. Chi Yan had missed her terribly. She never expected that she would get to see her again like this.

Perhaps, this was the only good thing about dying in that car accident—Chi Yan thought.

“Don’t be scared, Yanyan. Mom is here,” Chi’s mother comforted her, assuming she had been frightened by Yang Yueyi’s outburst.

She turned to Chi Hongzheng, her expression cold. “Bringing them home is one thing, but Yanyan is your real daughter. How can you let outsiders bully her?”

Chi Hongzheng glanced at Yang Yueyi, who was still on the floor, then at Chi Yan, and asked, “Yanyan, is there some misunderstanding?”

“Misunderstanding?” Chi Yan clung tightly to her mother, afraid she would disappear again. “Didn’t you see just now? She tried to attack me!”

Feeling the warmth of her mother’s body, Chi Yan was momentarily dazed. But in an instant, she realized what was happening.

She must have been reborn.

The car accident in her past life had taken her life, but now, she had a second chance.

Chi Yan silently thanked fate. Thankfully, she hadn’t let slip anything about the future. And thankfully, she had slapped Yang Yueyi.

It felt amazing to do it in person.

“Chi Hongzheng,” Chi’s mother said firmly, “I don’t care about anything else, but I won’t tolerate them bullying my daughter. That’s my bottom line.”

After saying this, she took Chi Yan’s hand and led her upstairs.

As they walked up the stairs, Chi Yan glanced back at the three people in the living room and thought, They really are a perfect match.

Once they entered the bedroom, Chi’s mother immediately checked her daughter from head to toe. “Yanyan, did she hit you? Let Mom take a look.”

“Mom, I’m fine. When she was about to hit me, you and… Dad arrived, right?”

It had been so long since Chi Yan called him “Dad” that the word felt foreign. But if she didn’t say it, her mother might get suspicious.

“Your dad… I can’t control him anymore,” Chi’s mother sighed, stroking Chi Yan’s hair. “He’s so biased, treating an outsider like his own while neglecting his real daughter… It’s my fault for being powerless.”

Seeing her mother’s guilt-ridden expression, Chi Yan felt her heart ache.

In her past life, her mother’s death had been the most painful thing for her. Now that she had been reborn, she had to change her mother’s fate!

“Mom, since Dad is treating us like this, have you ever thought about divorcing him?” Chi Yan cautiously suggested.

“Silly girl, if I divorce him, I’ll be left with nothing. How will I fight for you? Besides, you’re about to graduate this year. You need to enter your father’s company soon. If I leave now, won’t that just benefit Yang Lan and her daughter?”

“Mom, he cheated during the marriage—he’s the one at fault. And I don’t even care about the Chi family. As long as I have you, that’s all I need. We don’t need anyone else.”

Chi’s mother found her words reasonable but still hesitated. “Divorce is complicated. Even your uncle won’t support me in leaving. But for now, we can move to your uncle’s house and stay there for a while.”

Chi Yan didn’t expect her mother to listen to her just because she said a few words. Seeing that there was still a chance to turn things around, she immediately responded, “Okay!”

Not having to see Yang Yueyi and Yang Lan was truly something to be happy about.

“Then go pack a few clothes. I’ll take you with me in a while,” Chi’s mother said.

Chi Yan cheerfully agreed.

In her past life, ever since her father brought Yang Lan and her daughter into the Chi household, Chi Yan had been avoiding them. But since her mother was still there, she couldn’t just leave home completely, so she had to see those two at least a few times every month.

But now, she had just returned and could avoid them for a while. That was a great thing.

Chi Yan packed quickly, and before long, she was standing at her mother’s door with her suitcase. “Mom, let’s go.”

“Alright.”

Seeing that her mother was only carrying a small bag, Chi Yan couldn’t help but ask, “Mom, why aren’t you bringing more clothes? We’re going to stay at Uncle’s house for a while.”

She was worried that her mother would only leave for a few days before returning.

“I don’t feel like packing. If we don’t have enough clothes, we can buy more.”

Chi Yan had no choice but to suppress her worries and follow her mother downstairs.

But when she got to the living room, she saw that Yang Yueyi, Yang Lan, and her father were still there. Her father and Yang Lan were both comforting the sobbing Yang Yueyi.

“Chi Yan, what are you doing with a suitcase?” Chi’s father frowned. “Also, Yueyi said that you slapped her first, and she only tried to hit you back. Is that true?”

“That’s nonsense! All I did was say that she wasn’t your biological daughter, and she got so mad that she started making false accusations.” Chi Yan widened her eyes, furrowed her brows, and glared at Yang Yueyi in anger. “Tell the truth—are you just jealous that I’m actually his daughter?”

Yang Yueyi was furious and shouted through her tears, “You’re lying! You really slapped me!”

Chi’s father glanced back and forth between the two of them, as if trying to figure out who was telling the truth.

Chi’s mother, seeing his hesitation, immediately said, “You’ve always been biased, but this is too much! Yan Yan, there’s no place for us in this house anymore. Let’s go!”

“What are you making a fuss about now?” Chi’s father blocked their way. “Why are you suddenly leaving?”

“Yan Yan was almost hit, and yet you’re doubting her? Ask yourself—would your daughter really do something like that? If you don’t trust your own child, then why should we stay here?”

Chi’s father was hit right in the gut by those words. He thought about it—his daughter wasn’t the type to lie, but Yang Yueyi…

“Alright, Yueyi was in the wrong this time.” He softened his tone and said to Chi Yan, “Yan Yan, your sister is still young. She didn’t mean it. Don’t hold it against her.”

Chi Yan almost laughed out of anger. Sure, Yang Yueyi was younger than her, but only by two years. She was a full-grown adult! And yet, Chi Hongzheng could still shamelessly call her “young” with a straight face.

“I don’t hold grudges, but I’m afraid she holds grudges against me! This time, you caught her lying. What about next time? Next time, won’t you still believe her over me?” Chi Yan looked up at Chi Hongzheng, her eyes brimming with tears. “You’re my father, not hers!”

Chi Hongzheng was startled by her tears. He stammered, “I… Of course, I’m your father. Yan Yan, I…”

“Enough. I’m taking Yan Yan to stay with my brother for a while,” Chi’s mother interrupted.

Chi Hongzheng’s gaze lingered on Chi Yan’s tear-streaked face, and in the end, he compromised. “I’ll have the driver take you.”

On the way, Chi’s mother, worried about Chi Yan, tried to comfort her. “Yan Yan, don’t be sad. He may not be a good father, but I love you the most.”

Chi Yan smiled. “Mom, I’m not sad.” I’ve long since considered him dead.

She looked out the car window. The spring sunshine was bright, the world was full of life, and her mother was still by her side. She felt like the happiest person in the world.
