RPDH Chapter 12

Deception-ception

Dark clouds obscured the sun and its burning rays, masking the world in gray.

The black-robed man whirled around, his expression finally shifting into shock and disbelief.

No one present saw what happened a moment ago, just like they could not perceive the black-robed man’s ability. That was no longer a secret at this point.

“How could…?!” The black-robed man hissed from between clenched teeth before conjuring a lethal blast at the young man’s heart with a swipe of his hand.

Sharp winds stirred up dust in all directions, the whistling reminiscent of human screams.

That figure disappeared before his eyes once more.

The invisible attack left three fissures on the ground. The black-robed man frantically turned around.

Only to see the young man gently smiling at him.

“Ahhhh!!”

He seemed no better than a drowned dog reflected in the young man’s eyes.

Enraged, the black-robed man went on full offensive, launching attack after attack indiscriminately. Yet none of them, none even touched the hem of the young man’s coat!

“It would have been more interesting if they appeared remotely…” The young man’s voice resounded in his ears, but there was no one there when his head snapped over.

The voice came from behind him a second later. “Alas, the sound of the wind practically gives it away.”

A mocking smile played on the lips of his completely untouched opponent, like he was appraising an inferior piece of merchandise.

The black-robed man’s eyes widened.

He was straining to use his ability at near full power right now. The mysterious ability that normally inspired terror in others was as useful as trash right now. He panted harshly as his heart threatened to beat out of his chest.

In the face of the ability user’s final strike, before the maelstrom of ‘invisible’ blades, the dark-haired young man leisurely revealed the final secret.

“Your ability conceals itself like a blade of ice would melt into the bloodstream.”

The young man suddenly closed the distance dramatically, leaving the attack in the dust.

That expression of smug satisfaction was magnified all of a sudden.

“Invisible? No, it’s just mixed into the wind.”

He could almost distinguish the young man’s individual eyelashes at this distance.

“Your attacks are just the wind.” The young man drawled.

A spell-type ability to fashion wind into sharp blades. Concealing them within the ambient air, the only warning being that whistling sound.

The air was so dense with blades that the slightest inattention would see one piercing the heart. Li Li focused her attention solely on them at this moment.

The fear of the other three black robes? The shock reeling the breakfast stall? She could care less.

Her gaze was reserved for the imperceptible blades.

With [Space Transformation], the domain-type item she just purchased, she could teleport just before any attack hit her.

At the same time, she could also control the space around other people. This was the power of a 400 popularity item!

A barrier materialized between them, enveloping the black-robed man in a fluorescent rectangular prism. The black-robed man tried to mobilize his ability to no avail!

The air in the space stagnated. There wasn’t even enough to breathe.

Asphyxiation, complete asphyxiation. The black-robed man began to convulse as he heard blood rushing to his head.

The space around him had become a vacuum.

“Untraceable, invisible, unavoidable?” The young man crossed his arms, his smile gradually cooling. “How boring.”

In the silent street, almost all eyes fell on one slender figure.

Xu She had stood up long ago. He stared at the back of the young man who had sat across from him and listened to his idle chatter. He took in the young man’s spotless trenchcoat, his irreverent posture, and the ability user they didn’t dare to move around that he had crushed with such ease.

He dealt with the black-robed man the same way the man treated the teen, like a cat toying with their prey.

Like he was taking a casual stroll, he completely defeated the black-robed man with a few simple words and actions.

What incredible…power!

Xu She recalled the news he had received yesterday from the higher-ups all of a sudden: a Rank A ability user had come to Desolate Dragon.

That person was, without a doubt, this young man! He was the Rank A ability user!

Xu She almost cheered aloud with excitement.

He could sense a similar aura from the young man. Was he too disgusted with this world? Was there a chance he would join their cause?

He was a Rank A, for goodness’ sake!

“That gentleman is on his way.” Another member of the organization told Xu Xuan.

The fervour in Xu She’s eyes only intensified.

The gentleman in question is a Rank C, the highest authority of their organization within the city.

[Item [Space Transformation] purchased successfully. Countdown: 1:31]

Li Li was about ready to end this round of provocation.

After facing the first strike head-on and gleaning some insight, she had been focused on dodging ever since.

She didn’t get anything out of this except a wildly pounding heart.

Abilities really were hard to obtain, ah. She sighed, preparing to throw these underlings into the nearby sea.

It was at that moment that a tremor ran through the black-robed man in the vacuum.

The fearful expressions of the three black-robed individuals behind her also suddenly shifted.

They set down the unconscious girl and stepped forward in unison, completely disregarding the teen that glared as he dragged his sister away from them.

Li Li inclined her head their way.

The same faint smile adorned all three faces, their synchronized motion reminded her greatly of Qing Yuchen, who she just bid farewell to this morning.

“My sincerest apologies. These pieces of trash were foolish enough to offend you, sir.” The three black-robed people said in unison.

The same tone, volume, and inflection.

It was Qing Yuchen, Li Li thought.

She didn’t change her indifferent attitude. At the same time, she was relieved to have found an opportunity that would not expose her motives to Qing Yuchen.

Sure enough, more precautions should be taken when going out. Qing Yuchen being able to read the memories of ability user was quite tricky to deal with.

Besides, this place was at least 700m from Tarnished Bronze HQ, but Qing Yuchen was able to assume direct control over these three…

Rank B ability users really were in a completely different league compared to the Rank D she just dealt with, she solemnly thought.

As the gears in Li Li’s brain spun madly, Qing Yuchen continued, “I will compensate for your losses. This trash will also be executed right away.”

Executed?

Before Li Li could say anything, she head a muffled bang.

Blood covered every inch of the translucent rectangular prism when she turned back around.

Qing Yuchen made that black-robed man blow himself up.

“I hope you are satisfied with this solution?” The three black-robed people being controlled humbly bowed their heads despite Li Li’s opinion never being asked for.

Despite appearing to be intimidated by her, Qing Yuchen’s arrogance was still present in the finer details.

He didn’t consider his subordinates to be human, much less merchandise like Tang.

Sure enough, she didn’t like this character. Li Li wanted to laugh, and so she did.

Everyone watched as the dark-haired young man suddenly chuckled quietly, like he had seen something amusing.

“Of course…” His smile vanished in an instant. “not.”

[300 popularity has been deducted. Remaining balance: 679]

[Item [Remote Pressure (one-time use)] purchased successfully]

[Coordinates confirmed. Activating.]

700m away, Tarnished Bronze headquarters.

Qing Yuchen had a premonition. He stood up in an attempt to avoid something, only for his knees to crash to the floor!

Blood spurted from his kneecaps and dyed the tiles red.

Qing Yuchen’s back trembled as his eyes bulged out of his head. He nearly lost control of the three subordinates hundred meters away.

Before he cut the connection, he saw the dark-haired young man before him glance up indifferently, two black holes in the depths of his unfathomable eyes.

“Don’t try to make decisions on my behalf.” The young man arrogantly raised his chin. “You’re not worthy.”

The shared sight cut off a beat later.

As soon as they were free to move, the black-robed trio stared at her like she was a monster before running off.

Li Li glanced at the [Space Transformation] countdown. There was still around a minute left.

She vanished in the blink of an eye.

The teen braced his sister against his shoulder as he watched the young man in the black trenchcoat leave.

“Are you alright?” One of the diners at the breakfast stall nearby approached, only for the teen to stare at him warily.

The diner sheepishly touched the back of his head and backtracked, “We’re decent people, actually…”

It was no use. The teen still bared his teeth at him like a feral little beast.

It was at that point that Xu She caught a whiff of cigarettes.

A faint white mist drifted over from behind him. He exclaimed after turning around, “Mr. Hua!”

A man in Tang Dynasty dress gradually approached from the end of the street.

“Heard you guys ran into the Rank A?” Those beautiful phoenix eyes narrowed.

The newcomer was the Desolate Dragon city branch director of the ‘Tide’ organization, the Rank C ability user, Hua Yizhi.

“Yes, but the Rank A gentleman left already.” Xu She explained, “Just now.”

The man dressed in Tang Dynasty robes surveyed the scene. He noted the blood splatter that had fallen to the ground after the barrier was removed.

“As expected of that esteemed guest. He truly is ruthless.” He sighed.

Hua Yizhi automatically attributed the killing to the aforementioned Rank A.

The onlookers weren’t certain what just happened either. They didn’t know about Qing Yuchen, nor what they spoke about. All they could tell from their perspective was that the black-robed people yielded to the dark-haired young man. No one refuted Hua Yizhi’s words. On the contrary, one person even added, “He was so strong that he crushed ‘Unseeable’ single-handedly!”

“Should we go after him?” Another individual chimed in.

Hua Yizhi just shook his head.

He turned and raised the lighter he was holding. “This is where he belongs. Sooner or later, he will come back to ‘Tide’.”

There was a tug on his robes just as he was about to leave. He turned to see the completely standoffish teen right next to him.

“That person from earlier is going to join your organization?” He asked.

When Hua Yizhi nodded gently, he continued, “Then I want to join too.”

His expression was filled with sincerity.

Li Li patrolled all the sketchy areas of Desolate Dragon after leaving the breakfast stall.

Alas, Rank D’s like that spell-type black-robed man were hard to come by. She didn’t find anything notable even as the sun set.

The system chimed in exactly as the clock struck midnight.

[Establishing channel… Welcome back to reality.]

Li Li stared at the mosquito net overhead for a long while after returning to the real world.

She felt like her mind was both crowded and empty at the same time.

After spacing out for an undetermined amount of time, she retrieved her phone from beside her pillow.

Might as well scroll a bit on the forums since she’s not going to be able to sleep anyway.

Thanks for all the bookmarks, little angels! Mua~

I’ve noted down all the character ideas in the comments, mua mua mua!

You can try making some ability users too, hehe. No limits on low-ranks! More mimic-type or spell-types! More!

Here’s an existing summary:

Mimic-types tend to be optimistic. Spell-types are aloof + introverted. Don’t play games with domain-types because they cheat. Concept-types are all lunatics.
