One day ago, the young boy who had just been poked on his backside entered the bathroom with tears in his eyes, while Lie Bei Shuang sat on the bed, staring in silence.
Where did such an adorable little crab come from?
“Master.” The smart window was knocked on. Lie Bei Shuang got up, opened the window, and let the little golden orb float inside.
“Master, as per your instructions, I’ve discovered some very important information regarding today’s incident,” the scepter quickly opened a hidden page in front of Lie Bei Shuang and extended a small earpiece for communication.
“First of all, the fake Lao Jin who tricked Little Master into the dense forest had stolen the real Lao Jin’s work ID, which is how he managed to gain Little Master’s trust and lure him away.
Prior to this, the real Lao Jin’s light brain had been infected by a virus. Following the trail, I discovered that before the virus infection, the real Lao Jin had once helped Luo Qi purchase some items, and Luo Qi had transferred him some credit points.
The virus was implanted into the real Lao Jin’s light brain at that exact time.
The real Lao Jin always thought he had downloaded something carelessly, causing the virus. But in fact, for the sake of confidentiality, the firewall of the light brains used by staff at the Alliance Celebration had been uniformly upgraded. Under normal circumstances, regular viruses shouldn’t have been able to break in.”
Lie Bei Shuang quickly skimmed through the clues without a word.
“Furthermore, the deputy director and Luo Qi have known each other for a long time. His pet is a Masosakin Beast — highly obedient with a certain level of intelligence. This is why the deputy director brought it along to the event.
The beast never attacks humans without provocation and is extremely wary of strangers. It would never eat anything offered by an unfamiliar person.
The deputy director was actually the most innocent among all of them. He was completely fooled by Luo Qi. However, if he had seriously investigated, he would have realized that the reason his pet, Sweetie, vanished without a trace was because it was lured away by someone familiar.”
The scepter glanced regretfully at the photo of Sweetie. “Luo Qi exploited Sweetie’s trust, lured it into a Rotten Beast pack, and essentially used it as a test. Sweetie fought back but was quickly swallowed.
Due to the special material of Sweetie’s locator device, the Rotten Beast was unable to digest it immediately — and that’s why Luo Qi used it as bait to lead the deputy director into the dense forest.”
“And finally, there’s Luo Qi himself.” The scepter pulled up another folder. “As you suspected, there is indeed a deep connection between the Elven Royal Family and Laplace.”
“I sneaked into the Elven Royal Family’s light brain today and discovered quite a bit of information.
First of all, the Elf King—he’s beyond redemption. Because of a prophecy from Laplace, he even conspired to kill his own queen, who was the biological mother of Luo Mo’er and Luo Qi.
From bits and pieces of information in Luo Mo’er and Luo Qi’s files, I discovered that these two children actually know about this incident. I even suspect that they witnessed it with their own eyes.”
Lie Bei Shuang raised an eyebrow.
“After that incident, in order to strengthen her control over the Elven Royal Family, Laplace asked the Elf King to choose one of his children to pledge loyalty to her. The Elf King originally intended to choose Luo Mo’er, but in the end, it was Luo Qi who became her pawn.”
The scepter glanced at the bathroom and then quickly sped up its speech. “I suspect Luo Mo’er and Luo Qi have their own revenge plan, but it’s impossible to know the specifics now. The Elf King’s health has been deteriorating recently, and they may be waiting for an opportunity to turn the tide.”
“Master, what should we do now? Should we wait and see, or…” The scepter hesitated.
“It’s too late.” Lie Bei Shuang pondered for a moment. “The fact that she dared to make a move on Gugu so openly doesn’t simply stem from the approaching Alliance Celebration. It’s more likely that she’s running out of patience.”
“Do you mean… she will launch a second attack on Little Master?” The scepter sounded uneasy.
“Not only that.” Lie Bei Shuang lightly tapped on the virtual keyboard. “Just now, Gugu told me something important. Dr. Huiman was once his foster father.”
“Then… are you going to tell Little Master that Dr. Huiman has now pledged his allegiance to you after being hunted by Laplace’s people?” The scepter seemed a bit excited. “Wow, what a small world. It’s like fate brought you all together!”
“But Dr. Huiman hasn’t told us everything, not even a word about Gugu.” Lie Bei Shuang swiftly signed a document. “Tonight, take this document to Dr. Huiman. I need to know more.”
“Got it!” The scepter immediately prepared to fly off.
“Wait.” Lie Bei Shuang quickly signed several more documents. “Contact the deputy director. I want full access to his personal data, including his 3D facial scan; arrange a performance class for Haituo tonight; activate one of my robotic substitutes; and, as fast as possible, prepare a few micro-trackers that can stick to hair strands.”
The scepter soon returned with several micro-trackers. Lie Bei Shuang placed them between his fingers, dimmed the lights, and the scepter rushed toward Dr. Huiman’s residence, buzzing with activity.
The bathroom door creaked open a crack, revealing the boy’s fluffy head. Tiptoeing back to bed, he found that the man was still awake.
“Give me three days. I’ll do my best to learn,” Lie Bei Shuang gently stroked the boy’s head. “Good night.”
The next morning, the boy practically fled the house in embarrassment, and Lie Bei Shuang got up calmly, took the coffee that Nais handed him, and sipped it lightly.
“If any unknown surveillance devices enter the room today, do not destroy them.”
Nais nodded respectfully.
“Master,” the scepter returned after a long night of work. “Everything you instructed has been handled. Dr. Huiman wants to meet with you—he’s outside right now.”
“Give him ten minutes.” Still in his robe, Lie Bei Shuang sat steadily on his smart sofa.
“Chief,” a well-mannered middle-aged man approached quickly, his expression solemn. “I did hide something before, but I’ve never done anything to harm the Alliance. Your curiosity is not a justification to demand my full disclosure without privacy.”
“Gugu already told me everything.” Lie Bei Shuang lifted his gaze, his golden eyes brimming with authority.
Gugu?
Dr. Huiman froze.
Why are you calling him Gugu?
Wait—how do you even know his nickname is Gugu?!
“Mr. Bo Ge is quite fond of the Chief,” the scepter said sweetly. If it had a face, it would have definitely given Dr. Huiman a very meaningful, ambiguous look.
Your cabbage has been devoured by a leopard.
Dr. Huiman instantly rolled his eyes elegantly.
That little traitor!
“Dr. Huiman, now is not the time to dwell on such matters. We now have a common enemy. She has already set her sights on Gugu.” Lie Bei Shuang stood up, rotating his wrist button, and his casual robe morphed into a perfectly fitted black suit. His tall, lean figure radiated power and charm, and his pair of golden eyes looked down on everyone with an undeniable presence.
“Alright.” Dr. Huiman sighed. “Given my understanding of her, I must ask you to protect everyone around Gugu.
“When I betrayed her, she didn’t even spare my cat. Let alone my friends—they were all eradicated without a trace.”
“If you knew the consequences, why did you betray her back then?” The scepter couldn’t help but ask.
“It wasn’t something I could control.” Dr. Huiman sighed again. “Can we discuss this later?”
“You don’t need to hide it.” Lie Bei Shuang took a step forward, his towering figure making his presence dominant.
“You fused with the Elven Saint NPC, didn’t you?”
“…He even told you that?” Dr. Huiman looked utterly defeated.
That little brat ratted me out completely?!
Faced with no other choice, the helpless father figure spilled everything. But before he finished, he couldn’t help but grumble, “I thought I raised him to be a remarkable warrior, and now look—he couldn’t even resist the allure of a handsome man! I underestimated his weakness!”
The handsome man in question remained silent in deep thought, declining to comment.
“Master, I just received a message. Haituo and the deputy director were invited to dinner by Luo Qi. Should they accept?” The scepter asked for instructions.
“Have them accept.” Lie Bei Shuang turned to Dr. Huiman.
“You betrayed her once. That makes you one of her prime targets. One way or another, she won’t let you exist in this world.”
“I’ve been prepared for that.” Dr. Huiman’s ears twitched. “I was once her assistant. My hands are stained with the blood of countless humans, and I’ve lived with regret ever since.
“The Elven Saint rescued me and integrated his main consciousness with mine. If she comes for revenge, I will abandon this body and upload my consciousness, returning to the Elven Saint form.”
After last night’s devilish training, Haituo felt like her face was about to cramp from exhaustion. She had no idea why she had to go through such intense training, nor why she couldn’t even get a peaceful night’s sleep.
Was this something a home tutor was supposed to experience? Seriously, what the heck!
But thankfully, Luo Qi had invited her and Bo Ge to dinner. She was determined to eat her fill and heal her wounded soul.
When the assistant director texted her about heading there together, Haituo immediately rushed to the meeting point. They would take the assistant director’s aircraft to the Aerial Forest to meet up with Luo Qi and Bo Ge.
The aircraft was on autopilot. The assistant director sat on the smart sofa with a blanket over his legs, resting with his eyes closed.
“Um… Assistant Director?” Haituo carefully called out.
The man slowly opened his eyes, and a pair of striking golden eyes stared back at her—eyes that were incredibly familiar.
Haituo was so startled she almost fell to her knees.
“Did you forget everything you learned last night?” The man’s voice was calm and unhurried as he tilted his head back, applying eye drops to his eyes. After blinking a few times, his iris color shifted into the same brown shade as the assistant director’s.
“C-Chief… Chief!” Haituo felt like crying. Someone, please tell me what the heck is going on?! Why is the Chief disguising himself as the assistant director?!
Wasn’t monitoring us a bit too much?!
A small golden orb flew over to Haituo, projecting a page in front of her and speaking quickly. “The current situation is serious, and you need to get a rough understanding of it. Whether or not you can act well in this scene will determine if we can catch a dangerous and heinous criminal. Do you understand?”
“I-I understand.” Haituo wanted to cry but no tears came. She glanced at the page and, after a moment, frowned in hesitation. “But Chief… this mission seems really heavy. I’m afraid I’ll mess it up…”
“Scroll to the bottom.” The man leaned back against the smart sofa, his voice steady and low.
Haituo obediently scrolled to the bottom and saw the mission reward. Her heart started to pound.
Oh my gosh! That’s so many credits!
“I-I can do it! Please trust me, Chief!” Haituo immediately became filled with determination.
“Good. Now, tell me everything you know.” The man accepted a mist inhaler from Scepter, brought it to his nose and mouth, and inhaled deeply a few times.
“Uh… everything about what exactly?” Haituo asked, feeling guilty.
“Everything.” The man set the inhaler down, his voice now hoarse and indistinguishable from the assistant director’s.
“Any minor detail you hide could lead to the failure of this mission and might even endanger the young master’s life.” Scepter sternly reminded her, “You’ve seen the information just now. Luo Qi is now classified as a dangerous individual. We need to know everything you know, especially if it involves Luo Qi or the young master.”
The boy walked into Luo Qi’s aircraft, and Haituo, now dressed in a lovely little dress, bounced over to him energetically. She latched onto his arm and, when Luo Qi wasn’t paying attention, subtly pinched Bo Ge’s arm, not too hard, but enough to send a signal.
The boy’s eyes flashed with confusion for a brief moment.
The assistant director smiled kindly.
“We meet again.”
“You seem awfully happy to see a human,” Luo Qi commented lightly, signaling the robot to bring over three drinks.
“Well, partly because of that,” the assistant director smiled, accepting a drink. “But also because Haituo just told me something very interesting.”
The boy instinctively looked toward the assistant director, only to see the man’s smile deepen in a way that was laden with meaning.
“Luo Qi, did you know…”
The assistant director paused, taking a sip of his drink before casually dropping the bombshell:
“You’re actually someone’s dream lover.”
