With the little white dragon’s skill enhancement, the ‘Blessing on Light’ on Ran Qi’s body became even more dazzling. In an instant, all the surrounding darkness and death energy were completely dispelled, and even the death energy shrouding Night Owl seemed to lessen.
“Jiji!” The little black dragon perched on the bone dragon, devouring the death energy from its body as if it were a delicious meal. It ate joyfully, showing no signs of discomfort.
Strangely enough, the bone dragon had remained motionless ever since the little black dragon landed on it, as if allowing it to do whatever it pleased.
“Kill them!” The aged voice seemed enraged by this scene and began chanting a long incantation once again. More death energy emerged from the ground, continuously surging into the bone dragon’s body.
The thickening black mist caused the bone dragon’s body to expand in size. A layer of dark scales, condensed from death energy, formed over its skeletal frame, along with ferocious horns and razor-sharp fangs, making it look like a true dragon.
The bone dragon slowly opened its eyes, its scarlet pupils brimming with a violent aura that made it appear even more terrifying.
The death energy around it had become so dense that even the little black dragon could no longer continue devouring it. Instead, it could only flap its wings and circle the bone dragon, chirping anxiously.
“Xiao Hei, come back!” Night Owl, worried about the little black dragon getting hurt, immediately called it back.
Hearing its master’s call, the little black dragon turned to fly back, but before it could, the bone dragon suddenly raised a claw and grabbed it.
“Xiao Hei!” Night Owl and Ran Qi were both shocked by the scene.
The little black dragon struggled, poking its tiny head out from between the bone dragon’s claws, letting out a soft cry for help toward them.
Night Owl immediately unleashed a flurry of attacks on the bone dragon. However, with its level now risen to 60—a full-fledged super boss—the massive level suppression made his attacks nearly ineffective.
“Hahaha! Kill them! Kill them now!” The aged voice grew even more excited.
Yet, the bone dragon did not follow the command. It remained still and silent.
“Michelson! Are you trying to defy my orders?!” The aged voice suddenly rose in anger.
The name seemed to stir something within the bone dragon. At last, it slowly stood upright, its towering figure exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression, like a dark mountain.
Ran Qi instinctively grasped Night Owl’s hand beside him. Night Owl returned the grip, offering quiet reassurance, “It’s okay. At worst, we just fail the quest.”
“Mm…” Ran Qi nodded slightly.
But the name Michelson… why did it sound so familiar?
No matter how furious the aged voice became, the bone dragon did not move.
“Sawyer Lucas.” A deep voice emerged from within the bone dragon.
The aged voice abruptly fell silent, and an eerie stillness blanketed the surroundings.
Ran Qi and Night Owl exchanged glances, both realizing that the situation had shifted.
The bone dragon slowly turned and carefully returned the captured baby dragon to their hands. Then, with heavy steps, it began walking toward the collapsed ruins.
“Stop! Stop right now!” The voice roared in fury, as if realizing what the bone dragon intended to do.
But the bone dragon ignored him, resolutely pressing forward. It used its sharp claws to dig into the hardened ground.
The voice began chanting another incantation. Suddenly, the death energy enshrouding the bone dragon peeled away, twisting into countless spikes that violently impaled its skeletal frame. Ran Qi and Night Owl could see cracks forming across the dragon’s once-pristine white bones, yet it continued digging, its body trembling but never stopping.
Just before the bone dragon completely collapsed, it unearthed a black coffin. The coffin was shrouded in an even denser death energy, and the moment it was pulled from the ground, it erupted violently. It surged toward the bone dragon and destroyed its painstakingly reassembled body again.
“South… destroy him… the dragon race’s… hope…” As the bone dragon’s skeleton shattered, Ran Qi and Night Owl could barely make out its final words.
Although the situation had taken another drastic turn, the two quickly realized that this was part of the story. The entity inside the coffin was undoubtedly their target—the necromancer’s remains.
They exchanged a glance and then dashed toward the black coffin. Immediately, the death energy surged again, transforming into spikes that shot toward them.
The little white dragon perched atop Ran Qi’s head, lifting its small head as it cast its skill once more. The white light instantly dispelled a significant portion of the death aura. Meanwhile, the little black dragon crouched on top of Night Owl’s head, eagerly devouring the dark mist with its open mouth.
The two of them managed to reach the black coffin without incident, but they couldn’t find a way to open it.
“How about we set it on fire?” Ran Qi suggested.
Night Owl nodded and unleashed his ultimate skill, Flame Storm, directly at the black coffin. Towering flames engulfed it, and faint wails could be heard echoing from the distance.
As soon as they set the coffin ablaze, its HP bar appeared. Night Owl’s ultimate skill only burned away 10% of its health—not a massive amount, but it was still progress.
However, the person hiding in the shadows wouldn’t give them this opportunity. They manipulated the death aura within the Domain of the Undead to launch an attack against them.
The death aura surged forward like a massive black cloud, engulfing everything in its path. Ran Qi, with the Blessing of the God of Light, was mostly unaffected. However, Night Owl’s curse reacted violently to the death aura, rapidly absorbing it and strengthening the curse’s power. The one controlling the death aura clearly noticed this and focused their attacks on Night Owl.
Ran Qi poured all his healing skills onto Night Owl, including the area-based healing spell, Holy Light. Whether it was due to the Blessing of the God of Light or the light attribute enhancement from the little white dragon, this time, the Holy Light spell was entirely different from before. A pillar of light shot up into the sky, tearing through the darkness of the space.
Night Owl felt a surge of warmth envelop him, dispelling the chilling sensation within his body. Though the curse couldn’t be completely removed, it was now suppressed to a level he could endure. Meanwhile, the previously overwhelming death aura recoiled as if facing its natural enemy, scattering frantically in all directions. Even the black coffin’s HP bar visibly dropped.
Seeing this, Ran Qi’s eyes lit up—light truly was the nemesis of darkness!
He tried casting a healing spell on the black coffin. As soon as the white light touched it, its HP bar began to plummet rapidly. With the power of light, Ran Qi’s healing skills, which were originally meant for restoration, turned into potent attacks against undead creatures—so much so that they even outmatched Night Owl’s damage.
Overjoyed, Ran Qi continued casting spells whenever the cooldown ended. Night Owl also unleashed his attacks continuously. Working together, they finally shattered the protective layer of the black coffin.
The black coffin split open, revealing a skeletal frame within. True to its nature as the remains of a necromancer, even its bones were pitch black. However, something was odd—it was missing its skull.
[System] Collect the necromancer’s remains within three hours. Progress: (8/10). Time remaining: 00:25:29.
Clearly, according to the system’s prompt, the missing skull was the last piece of the puzzle. But time was running out.
Night Owl recalled the words the bone dragon had uttered before it fell— ‘South.’ It was likely hinting at the location of the necromancer’s skull.
“Let’s go check the south.” Night Owl stored the bones from the black coffin in his bag, then set off with Ran Qi toward the southern part of the Domain of the Undead.
Along the way, skeletal monsters continuously crawled from the ground to attack them. However, these skeletons were far weaker than the bone dragon and were quickly defeated. Night Owl’s offensive power was formidable as always, but Ran Qi, now empowered by the light element, had become even more fearsome against the undead.
Before long, they came across a lone withered tree standing in the dark swamp, looking eerily out of place. The closer they got, the fiercer the attacks became, as if the necromancer was making a desperate last stand.
There was no need for words—both of them understood immediately that this withered tree was suspicious. Without hesitation, they hurled Flame Storm and Holy Light at it. Fire and radiant light engulfed the tree entirely.
A deafening wail echoed as the tree trembled violently, struggling as if it had come to life. However, it couldn’t uproot itself to escape and was forced to stay in place, eventually burning into a heap of charcoal. Amidst the charred remains, a blackened skull peeked out.
Night Owl reached out and sifted through the remains, soon retrieving a black skull, which he stored in his bag.
[System] Congratulations! You have completed the hidden quest. You will be teleported to the Temple of Light in 30 seconds.
Thirty seconds later, they reappeared in the Temple of Light, where the Light Priest, Leslie, was anxiously waiting for them. “You made it back! Did you find the necromancer’s remains?”
They both nodded, and Night Owl retrieved the remains from his bag, handing them over to Leslie.
“At last, the day has come…” A look of relief appeared on Leslie’s face. “I will now remove your curse.”
He placed the remains onto a pre-prepared magic circle. Suddenly, a menacing ghostly face emerged from the bones, shrieking as it lunged toward Night Owl.
However, Leslie had anticipated this. A white barrier instantly enveloped the three of them, causing the ghostly face to miss its target. It immediately turned to flee, attempting to escape the Temple of Light, but Leslie would not allow it.
Chanting an incantation, Leslie intensified the magic circle’s glow. Blinding white light mixed with streaks of blue lightning, striking the necromancer’s bones and reducing them to blackened ash, which quickly dissipated into the light.
At the same time the necromancer’s remains were completely destroyed, the curse afflicting Night Owl was lifted.
Wow what a dangerous quest! I really don’t think it can be done solo! Thanks for the chapters
