“Wait a minute.”

Unable to let such an important statement pass, Kazusa interrupted him.

“Fundamentally not allowed… does that mean there are exceptions?”

Kazusa pursued the matter, and Zero shrugged his shoulders.

“Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary to suppress heat cycles indiscriminately.”

“…!”

Kazusa was surprised. Zero’s against using suppressants?

“For those who experience strong side effects like headaches, severe drowsiness, lack of concentration, or depression, the pills can have more disadvantages than benefits. In rare cases, there’s even a risk of blood clots. There’s also a theory that Omegas tend to have shorter lifespans than Alphas or Betas because of the pills.”

Even among Kazusa’s former colleagues in the Birth Department, there were debates between those who were for and against the use of oral suppressants. There are also advocacy groups claiming that controlling heat with drugs goes against the laws of nature and demanding the abolishment of the pills. However, the vast majority still support their use…

“As long as it doesn’t cause trouble for others, I believe it’s fine to not forcibly suppress one’s heat and to embrace someone they like as much as they want. The lounge’s ‘no sexual service’ policy is about not forcing sexual services as part of customer service. If a cast member chooses to spend time with a customer after hours or go on a date on their day off, that’s not an issue. I don’t see a problem with them sleeping with a customer as long as it’s consensual. That shouldn’t be penalised.”

“I see.”

“In fact, there are cast members who met customers here, became mates, and graduated from ‘RARE’. Some of them come back to visit occasionally, and they seem to be living happily with their families, even having children together.”

“…So that happens, too.”

(A ‘mate’, huh...)

Without realising it, Kazusa’s thoughts drifted far away.

He had come this far, reaching his thirties without experiencing any romantic entanglements. He wondered, would he ever meet his own mate someday?

When he was still a Beta, he had simply assumed his marriage partner would be a woman. He was aware that some people had same-sex partners. But personally, he had never been sexually attracted to anyone of the same gender. However, now that he knows he’s an Omega, he no longer needs to be bound by his first gender. Omegas can reproduce regardless of gender, so there’s no problem having a same-sex partner.

(I still can’t quite imagine giving birth myself… But if it’s a child like Misa, maybe I’d want one…)

A beeping electronic sound interrupted his wandering thoughts.

Kazusa looked over to see Zero holding a security card against the reader. With a click, the lock disengaged, and the black door slid open.

(At last, the lounge...)

When the door fully opened, at eye level, a faint fluorescent yellow neon sign flickered into view.

“‘NIGHT SAFARI’?”

“That’s the name of the lounge.”

Following Zero’s lead, Kazusa stepped inside. Without any natural light, it was pitch dark once the door behind them closed, as if they were suddenly enveloped by the night.

(So that’s why it’s called ‘Night’… But what about ‘Safari’?)

“That’s the reception and cloakroom.”

Hearing Zero’s voice from about a metre away startled Kazusa. Dressed in all black, his tall figure blended almost entirely into the darkness. But the faint glow of the neon sign revealed the area he was pointing to.

Directly opposite the door they had just entered—underneath the neon sign—was a reception counter, and the wall behind it appeared to be a closet for storing cloaks.

“Be careful, the floor slopes from here on.”

“Y-Yes.”

As Zero proceeded down the gentle slope, the footlights equipped with motion sensors at regular intervals began to light up one by one. Guided by the orange lights that flickered like the eyes of a beast floating in the dark, Kazusa nervously took one step at a time.

Gradually, his eyes adjusted to the darkness, and he began to make out the surroundings vaguely. Vines crawled up the walls on either side, tendrils dangled from the ceiling, and plants grew thick at his feet. It felt like a jungle.

Suddenly, a humid night breeze blew in from ahead, followed by the sounds of birds chirping ‘Kakaka’, monkeys screeching ‘Kee, Kiki’, and the growls and roars of beasts like ‘Gruu…’ and ‘Aooon’.

“Huh? …Huh?”

For a moment, he was confused about where he was and stood frozen for a second. Just ahead of him, a black jaguar with a faint glow silently crossed his path.

“Whoa!”

He shouted and jumped backward.

“A… a jaguar!? And it disappeared!?”

“Calm down.”

Zero, in a calm voice, admonished the panicking Kazusa.

“It’s a hologram.”

“A hologram?”

“3D projections with visuals, sound, scent, and wind. They create an immersive experience that takes guests on a night cruise far removed from everyday life—that’s the concept of ‘NIGHT SAFARI.'”

Just as Zero finished speaking, they arrived at a donut-shaped space. The ceiling soared high above. Though they were on the first basement floor, it seemed to have the height of two floors.

“This is the entrance hall.”

“Amazing…”

Kazusa stood with his mouth agape, staring at the scene before him.

In the centre of the donut-shaped space, a pillar of light stood, piercing through the middle. A spiral staircase, like a vine, wound around the pillar, which emitted a white glow from within. It seemed the pillar and staircase extended down to the second basement floor.

In the donut-shaped hall, single-seater chairs and three-seater couches were arranged at intervals, and holograms of giraffes, rhinos, lions, zebras, hyenas, and buffalo roamed between them.

The walls surrounding the hall projected a dense jungle in 3D, where monkeys leaped from branch to branch and birds pecked at fruit. The sounds of cries, growls, and roars they had heard earlier came from these holograms.

“…Wow…”

A breathless sigh of admiration escaped from Kazusa’s open mouth. This was truly extraordinary.

Even the strict rules and the waitlist of 300 people were understandable now.

“Members who have selected a cast at the reception wait in this entrance hall before using the spiral staircase to move to the guest rooms on the second basement floor.”

As Kazusa was silently captivated by the magical space, Zero explained the system in a rough manner, glancing at his smartwatch again.

“The lounge opens at six. Soon, tonight’s cast will be coming down from their rooms.”
