As if on cue, the sound of mixed male and female voices reached their ears. The lively chatter slowly approached, and a group of young men and women entered the entrance hall. Most of them looked to be in their early twenties. Each one had an excellent figure, and whether they were cute, beautiful, or handsome, it was clear they were all Omegas. Their clothes and hairstyles were fashionable and trendy as expected.

One girl in the group of six or seven, with black hair and silver highlights in a bob cut, greeted casually despite it being the evening, “Good morning, Owner.”

Zero calmly replied, “Good morning, Zebra,” then continued, “Good morning, Giraffe, Leopard, Newt, Lynx, Crow.”

“Good morniiiing! So, who’s that person?”

A tall, model-like girl from the group pointed at Kazusa, startling him.

“He’s a new resident. He moved in today, so I was showing him around ‘RARE.'”

Feeling the gaze of everyone upon him, Kazusa nervously opened his mouth.

“I’m Toomine… Nice to meet y…”

“Ah!”

Before the person could finish speaking, a voice came from the back of the group, and a small young man pushed his way through the crowd to come forward. The blond hair with streaks of pink was familiar.

“You are…”

“You’re the doctor from the hospital!”

“Serval.”

Zero growled in a threatening tone.

“You’re not on shift today, are you? I told you to rest until your wound is completely healed.”

Scolded, Serval stuck out his tongue playfully.

“But I’m bored! I’ve had enough of games and videos. Anyway, what are you doing here, Sensei?”

Without answering his perfectly reasonable question, Kazusa walked over to Serval.

“How’s the wound?”

Kazusa had been worried about his condition—the last patient he ever treated, Serval—since the surgery.

Serval raised his bandaged left arm.

“Thanks to you, it’s healing well. You’re a great doctor. The stitches are clean, and the medicine’s working, too. I’m not in any pain.”

“I see… That’s good.”

Relieved, Kazusa asked, “Show me the wound later. I can take out the stitches here, so I’ll check how it’s healing and decide when to remove them.”

“Sure. But… what are you doing here?” he repeated.

Faced with the same question, Kazusa hesitated to answer. It was only a matter of time before word got out, but Kazusa wasn’t eager to reveal that he was an Omega in front of these beautiful strangers he was meeting for the first time. Still, he couldn’t remain silent forever, so he slowly began to speak.

“The truth is…”

“No need. I’ll explain for you,” Zero interrupted.

Then, calmly, Zero introduced me: “This is Toomine Kazusa, age thirty. He worked as an orthopaedic surgeon at Central National Downtown East General Hospital but recently experienced his first heat, revealing that he’s a Latent Omega. He lost his job and home as a result. So for now, he’s staying at ‘RARE.’”

Zero gave a brief but accurate summary, omitting details about his involvement in his heat, the accident on the rooftop, and the other events that had led to this point. Kazusa bowed his head and said, “Pleased to meet you.”

But there was no reaction.

“…………”

Kazusa glanced up to see the faces of the young cast members. Their expressions seemed to betray their thoughts:

A latent Omega?

He doesn’t look like an omega.

Thirty?

He’s just having his first heat at that age?

Their confusion was understandable. It was probably the first time they’d heard of someone discovering they were a Latent Omega at such an advanced age. Even Kazusa himself prided himself on being a rare case.

Moreover, unlike them, Kazusa wasn’t a stray. Technically, he didn’t even have the right to be here. He was only staying here because of Zero’s kindness.

The cold stares of the young people pierced through him like needles. Unable to bear it, Kazusa was just about to lower his head when—

“Then why don’t you join us as a cast member?”

A casual voice interrupted the silence. He looked up quickly and met Serval’s gaze.

“You quit being a doctor, right?”

“Well, it’s more like I was… forced to quit.”

“Doesn’t matter. Are you just going to live your life doing nothing?”

“Well, I…”

While Kazusa hoped to find a new job eventually, he didn’t know what else he was suited for. And he didn’t have any concrete ideas for what he wanted to do at the moment.

It could take years to secure employment and become independent again.

(Is it too presumptuous to rely on Zero until then…?)

“I’ll be bored! I got tired of doing nothing after three days!”

As Serval mentioned, it was highly possible Kazusa’d end up with too much free time. His workaholic nature left him without any real hobbies. If he had to name something, it would be reading. But if he shut himself away with books every day, he felt like his mental health might deteriorate, and he’d start thinking about things he shouldn’t…

(But even so…)

“Working behind the scenes might be okay. But I’m too old for front-line customer service… I have a plain face, no real conversation skills…” Kazusa muttered, listing off his negative points.

Zero cut in with an irritated voice. “Hey. You’re being way too hard on yourself. There’s got to be something.”

Even though he said that, nothing came to mind as a strong point.

“Nothing in particular,” he replied.

“Have more confidence.”

Facing all these young, beautiful cast members, there was no way Kazusa could have any confidence.

“I… can’t. I seriously don’t know what value I have left after losing my medical licence.”

Zero sighed deeply. And a sharp pain ran through Kazusa’s chest.

(He’s disappointed in me.)

At his age, he couldn’t even fake being okay. There really was nothing good about himself.

As he sank deeper into his self-loathing, Zero, who had been contemplating something, suddenly spoke.

“Why don’t you try being a cast member?”

“Huh?”

Surprised by the unexpected suggestion, Kazusa stared at Zero.

“Serval has a point. Doing nothing for a long period of time isn’t good for your mental health. You’ve always lived a busy life. So there’s a chance you might get sick if you suddenly stop. You can try being a cast member, and if it doesn’t suit you, you can switch to hall staff or kitchen staff.”

His argument was convincing, so Kazusa thought it over.

His future as an Omega was still chaotic and unclear. But one thing was certain: when he was a doctor, people overlooked certain flaws because of his special skills. Now that he had lost that privilege, he needed to update who he was. He couldn’t go on like this.

If he thought of it that way, though it might be a drastic change, this could be an opportunity to reinvent himself.

Zero had explained everything to him. After seeing the lounge and meeting the cast members, he had to admit he was intrigued.

He could try it out. And if he wasn’t cut out for it, he could just take on a backstage role like Zero suggested.

There’s no growth without challenges.

With that conclusion, Kazusa turned to Zero. Meeting his jewel-like eyes, he declared his decision.

“I want to try.”

As soon as he said it, Serval cheered, “Yay, you’re one of us now!” and threw his arms around me in a hug.

“Hey, you’re going to reopen your wound!” Kazusa scolded, quickly pulling him off. He grinned at Kazusa and then called to Zero.

“Hey, boss, give Sensei a name!”

“A name?” Kazusa asked, puzzled.

“All of our names were given to us by the boss,” Serval explained. “It’s part of the security system.”

(So Zero came up with the animal-themed stage names.)

The girl with black hair and silver highlights was called ‘Zebra’, which fit with her striped look. The model-like girl was likely named ‘Giraffe’. And Serval, with his blond hair streaked with pink and his feline eyes, probably got his name from the serval cat. They all seemed fitting.

“If you’re going to be a cast member, you’ll need one too, right?”

“Well… I guess that’s true.”

Zero stared at Kazusa intently. He could feel his back tingle, wondering if he was trying to match his appearance to an animal.

“How about… Lemur?”

After a brief pause, Kazusa tilted his head at the name Zero suggested. He had read plenty of animal encyclopaedias as a kid, so he thought he knew most animals. But he had never heard of a ‘lemur’.

“What kind of animal is that?” Kazusa asked.

Zero pulled out his smartphone from his coat pocket and started searching. Soon, he turned the screen toward Kazusa and said, “This one.”

A picture of a small monkey with dark rings around its eyes appeared on the screen.

“Oh… A ring-tailed lemur?”

“It looks like it’s wearing glasses, just like the doc!” Serval exclaimed as he peeked at the screen.

“Oh, let me see!”

The other cast members quickly gathered around. Zebra snatched the phone from Zero and laughed, “It really does look like him!”

“For sure! The boss nailed it!”

“Totally perfect. It’s hilarious!”

“The striped tail is so cute!”

Kazusa felt the tension in the air ease all at once. He let out a small sigh of relief. Zero, with his talent even for naming, had managed to lighten the mood.

Speaking in his usual serious tone, Kazusa said, “Alright, then… I’ll be ‘Lemur.’ Thank you for the name.”

*Translator’s Note: Just saying…. Sometimes I use ‘Owner’ and sometimes it’s ‘Boss’. It’s the same thing. It’s funny to think that I know what a Lemur is but never heard of Serval or Newt. Lol. I need to read more encyclopedias. I think everyone should know what a Zebra, Giraffe and Leopard looks like tho…-K

☝🏻Newt. Ugh! I have a phobia for lizards but I still screenshot this for you guys. WTF!!! My hands were literally shaking!

☝🏻Lynx. How adorable….

☝🏻Lemur. Schoooo cute!!!
