In the lounge, Yuan Yang reminded them, “YB is better than this. In the first game, their support followed the jungler. If the bot-laners stick together this time, they’ll be a real problem.”
Zhao Jiu suddenly remembered something. “Isn’t YB’s support known as ‘Little God Xu’ or something?”
Jiang Shi frowned at the mention. “Finding new ways to put themselves on a pedestal?”
Jiang Lele laughed. “You’re the one putting a crown on our captain’s head! But yeah, their support is pretty damn good.”
He remembered that in the last World Championship, this support had set up multiple perfect teamfights, shutting down An before he could even Flash.
Yuan Yang nodded. “In any case, don’t underestimate them. Stay cautious.”
As the second game entered the BP phase, YB’s strategy was already clear.
The female commentator frowned. “If I remember correctly, YB’s bot lane synergy is nearly flawless. But TLG’s bot-laners has great tacit understanding too, so they might be able to hold their own—”
Before she could finish, Jiang Shi locked in Oz.
This was a newly released champion, not uncommon in pro play, but with an abysmal win rate.
Oz was a sniper, capable of instantly deleting half-HP glass cannons once fully built.
Of course, that was only if the shots landed. This hero was entirely aim-dependent.
The male commentator was surprised to see Oz picked in this lineup, his tone skeptical. “This ADC can hold his own in lane, sure, but he doesn’t synergize with supports. When YB’s bot-laners starts roaming together, what can Oz even do?”
The commentators weren’t the only ones confused. The viewers in the livestream didn’t get it either.
[This hero even struggles to defend the base, why pick him?]
[Did Time get cocky after winning one game? First time playing on a big stage?]
[Unbelievable, they win one game and start throwing.]
[Was Xu and TLG’s coach just watching this happen?]
Even Yuan Yang hesitated. “YB’s bot-lane is strong, but you and Xu should at least be able to hold the pressure.”
“If we do that, we’ll just let YB slow down the tempo.” Jiang Shi glanced at the remaining hero pool. There’s no good options to break the deadlock, except a well-played Oz.
“Yang-ge, trust me. I can pressure North’s HP and keep him from roaming.”
Yuan Yang looked at Xie Xu. “Xu, what do you think?”
Jiang Shi immediately promised Xie Xu, “I can carry with Oz too!”
Xie Xu: “Then take him.”
With the lineup set, Xie Xu decided to roam with the jungler, leaving Jiang Shi to fend for himself.
From a bird eye’s view, it was clear that YB’s bot-laners were sticking together from level 1.
The male commentator sighed. “This game is going to be rough. Xu and Back might not even have time to make plays before bot-lane collapses.”
“Not necessarily.” The female commentator hesitated. “If Time lands every shot on North, he won’t just avoid getting suppressed, YB won’t have time to roam either.”
The male commentator scoffed. “How is that possible?”
This kind of brute-force solution was almost unheard of.
Just as he finished speaking, Jiang Shi fired his first shot — hitting North squarely, knocking off nearly half his HP.
Oz’s weaknesses couldn’t overshadow his terrifying damage.
The male commentator’s voice hitched. “That first shot was mostly luck. YB’s support is already stepping up to body-block.”
Jiang Shi didn’t rush his second shot. In a 1v2, he couldn’t contest wave control. North healed up and continued farming.
As North stepped up to last-hit a minion, Jiang Shi suddenly fired again—
North was left with critically low HP.
[Damn, how did that shot get through the support?]
[The support was blocking well, but North’s tiny misstep forward, and Time immediately punished him.]
[What kind of reaction time is this? He doesn’t even need a wind-up to flick his sniper gun?]
[I don’t know what he did exactly, but I just saw North and his support in a 2v1… and Time still forced North to recall.]
[What are you waiting for? Spam 6 in the chat!]
With just those two shots, Jiang Shi secured full lane control.
Despite the action happening in mid and top, all eyes were glued to bot-lane.
Holding their breath, watching Time snipe.
Early on, Jiang Shi fired surprise shots. Now, he just kept his scope trained on North, weaving left and right, sometimes not shooting for ages.
[Hahaha, T Bao, you’re so evil!]
[I can only imagine how tormented North must feel right now. Constantly on edge, not knowing when the next shot will land. That kind of tension is suffocating.]
[I can tell the support is trying his best to block, but somehow every bullet still slips through the gaps. Hahaha!]
[Sending thoughts and prayers to North in chat~]
On YB’s team chat, the support, clearly frustrated, snapped, “North, can you stop moving around? You’re walking right into his shots!”
North’s face was grim. “Shut up.”
Like he was stepping into the bullets on purpose?
YB’s jungler, their captain, spoke coldly. “Enough arguing.”
His jungle had already been invaded and warded.
“If I’m not wrong, they’ll gank top soon. Stay alert. The rest of you, come bot with me.”
YB’s mid and jungle roamed bot, setting up a 4v1. Even though Jiang Shi sensed something was off, he had no way to escape.
A 4v1 gank — even his tower wouldn’t save him.
Staring at North, already chunked to half HP by his shots, Jiang Shi’s gaze sharpened.
Just as everyone wondered how he’d retreat, Jiang Shi dashed forward with his ultimate, dodging the enemy’s CC aimed at his tower, then—
Flashed straight into North’s face, scoped in, and shot him point-blank.
One last auto-attack before dying, completing a perfect 1-for-1 trade.
“Insane!” The male commentator jumped up. “That counter-kill was absolutely nuts! How did he have the guts to dive into the enemy team to kill North?! That was straight-up assassinating the enemy general in the chaos of battle! Too damn cool!”
The female commentator added, “This isn’t just any Oz, this is Time’s Oz. He’s already the best marksman!”
After all, Jiang Shi had landed seven consecutive shots on the enemy!
Even one missed shot would have wasted his Flash and handed a critical kill to North, who was already struggling economically.
The camera cut to the two ADCs. Jiang Shi’s expression was cold as he adjusted his equipment.
Meanwhile, North looked dazed, as if he still hadn’t processed what just happened.
The male commentator clicked his tongue. “Seems like North is either in the fountain or heading back there all game.”
The female commentator glanced at Time’s build. “He hasn’t bought a single defensive item, just pure crit and attack speed. Even his boots are cooldown reduction to keep firing nonstop.”
Jiang Shi’s pinpoint accuracy shattered YB’s entire plan of letting the bot-laner to roam.
If the support abandons North, North would 100% be killed by Jiang Shi. Since he’s the core DPS of the team, there will be no way for YB to win the game if he isn’t able to develop.
So, YB’s bot-laners could only be tied down in the bot-lane, very slowly and carefully develop.
However, a teamfight was imminent. Once it broke out, both sides consumed a lot of skills. Seeing YB’s situation, it was inevitable that TLG would have an advantage. Especially, at this point, nobody can stop Jiang Shi’s development.
By the time he took down North with just two shots, it was clear that no one could stop him anymore.
While pushing the tower, the sniper Jiang Shi was lurking behind TLG, ready to take a shot at any squishy enemy who dared to show their face. The sheer oppressive firepower forced YB into a steady retreat.
With a well-coordinated play, Jiang Lele finished off the enemy mid-laner who had been weakened by the sniper.
Jiang Lele shouted excitedly, “Ahhh! T Bao, you’re the best sharpshooter in the league! I’ll just follow behind you and pick up kills!”
When Jiang Shi set up the damage, as long as Jiang Lele had a displacement skill, he could easily follow up with abilities to finish off the enemy.
Even Zhao Jiu, the fearless frontliner in late-game team fights, couldn’t help but follow Jiang Shi’s sniper line, waiting to pounce on low-health enemies.
At this point, Xu no longer needed to initiate fights. The sheer damage from Jiang Shi was the best form of engagement. Xu only had to position himself at the flank to prevent the enemy’s DPS from sneaking around and taking out their backline.
As they pushed the high ground, Jiang Shi’s position happened to be right next to Xie Xu’s bush.
The two were very close. When Oz adjusted his sniper aim, his character naturally rotated in circles. When he turned toward the bush, Jiang Shi suddenly stopped moving.
The red laser landed on Xu.
The livestream chat was full of question marks.
[What’s he doing? Can’t flick the sniper anymore? Why is the laser locked on his own teammate?]
[Don’t tell me the shady tournament organizers cut off T Bao’s internet? Why does it look like he’s lagging?]
[Bullsht! This kid is just flirting with Xu!]
[What’s up? Little idiot, are you communicating telepathically, or are you sending him love signals?]
[Xu, slap him awake! This is a match, not playtime!]
Under the viewers’ outcry, Xie Xu moved forward one step, completely overlapping their in-game avatars.
[?]
[Call my lawyer. This bowl of dog food is poisoning me. I suspect they’re trying to murder me.!
[When Xu moved, Time’s sniper line shook.]
[This kid thought Xu was about to scold him! He panicked, and when nothing happened, he just stuck even closer.]
[Cowardly, yet so arrogant.]
[Xu, just keep spoiling him!]
Jiang Lele, waiting for the sniper shot, was the first to notice something off. When he turned around and saw them, he blurted out, “You two are kissing in the bush!”
Jiang Shi’s hand shook at the words, and he accidentally fired into the air – only to perfectly snipe the enemy jungler who was trying to flank.
Jiang Shi: “…”
Zhao Jiu, who had been waiting for this moment, immediately pounced and sent the enemy straight to respawn.
In the end, TLG took down the enemy crystal without suspense.
The score was now 2-0.
Jiang Lele craned his neck, trying to peek at the YB player area. “I wanna see North’s expression.”
Their so-called prideful duo had been completely dismantled by Jiang Shi’s brute force, and he was too curious about their reaction.
But before he could stretch too far, someone pulled him back.
Yu Hui looked at him speechlessly. “The audience is laughing at you, didn’t you hear?”
Jiang Lele immediately looked straight ahead and walked properly. “But they might not be laughing at me!”
He turned to look at Jiang Shi, who was secretly digging into Xie Xu’s pocket. “This brat is even sneakier than me.”
Jiang Shi, having successfully stolen a piece of candy: “…”
“Forget it. Giving the sharpshooter a candy isn’t a big deal.” Jiang Lele generously let it slide. “But North really sucks! No wonder he always pull tricks before matches.”
To his surprise, Jiang Shi disagreed. “North isn’t bad.”
“He’s pretty damn good at catching my bullets.”
Jiang Lele: “…”
This kid’s trash talk was vicious.
After a short break, the finals moved into the third game, TLG’s match point.
For the final game, Jiang Shi expected the enemy to go all in with a desperate strategy. Instead, their lineup was textbook standard, without any standout picks. They even banned Oz just to let Senna through.
TLG didn’t hesitate. First pick: Senna.
[They locked it in just like that? Isn’t Senna trash right now?]
[Upstairs, you might not know Time, but you should know his Senna.]
[Time’s Senna has been played six times in tournaments, 100% win rate, you get it?]
[If she wasn’t always banned, this kid would’ve played a dozen matches with her and still be undefeated.]
[Congrats to YB in advance for securing second place in Worlds! (Confetti & applause~)]
[I’ve already drafted my “TLG Champions” post for my Weibo.]
Just as the fans predicted, before they even hit level 4, First Blood erupted in bot-lane.
Maybe it was the pressure from online criticism, or maybe Jiang Shi had mentally crushed North in the first two games, but North had no fight left in him. He actually tried to just farm peacefully against Jiang Shi’s Senna.
The male commentator was stunned. “So the rumors are true. Time really uses Senna’s second skill like an invincibility frame. His timing and mechanics are just insane.”
The female commentator nodded in agreement. “North should’ve used Flash earlier. He probably never expected Time to be this aggressive before level 4.”
In this game, North was completely abandoned by YB, turning into Jiang Shi’s personal ATM.
[TLG-Time is godlike!]
The outer bot-lane tower fell at five minutes, the inner tower at ten. If YB hadn’t rotated in time, Jiang Shi could’ve wiped the entire lane.
As for North — he barely showed his face before getting instantly deleted by Jiang Shi.
The arena was filled with nonstop screams. Fans were practically lifting “God Shi” banners into the sky.
“I finally get it.” The male commentator sighed. “For Time’s Senna, full HP is just the instant kill threshold.”
Jiang Shi had the highest gold in the game. When he walked through the river and ran into the enemy jungler and support, he casually fought a 1v2, killed the jungler, and strolled away without even burning his Flash.
Still, YB didn’t make it this far for nothing.
At the final big dragon fight, YB made a desperate last stand. Their support landed a great engage, and Zhao Jiu got instantly focused down. TLG lost their frontline. Just as it looked like YB might have a chance—
Jiang Shi flanked from behind, emerging from a bush deep in YB’s territory. His skill shot hit YB’s jungler perfectly, taking out their highest DPS.
The commentary desk erupted. “The dragon was secured by Back, I thought they might lose it, but Senna descended like a god and assassinated YB’s jungler!”
The female commentator hesitated. “But he’s deep in enemy lines now. Can he escape?”
The moment she finished speaking, Jiang Shi dodged YB’s support’s CC with a second skill, flashed to reposition, and at the last second — used his Stopwatch.
For 2.5 seconds, Jiang Shi was immune to damage, and YB had no target to attack.
By the time it wore off, his teammates had arrived. Without hesitation, Jiang Shi turned and fought back!
The mechanical voice echoed through the arena.
[Pentakill!]
A flawless five-kill massacre! Jiang Shi had just secured the first pentakill of his pro career.
Just before the enemy crystal exploded, a glowing emblem appeared over Jiang Shi’s head—
TLG’s team logo, shining brightly.
With one final auto attack, the crystal shattered. TLG won the World Championship 3-0!
The stadium erupted. Fans’ cheers thundered through the venue, chanting TLG’s name over and over.
Standing on the familiar winner’s podium, Yuan Yang was in tears. “Last year, I thought TLG was finished.”
No matter how calm he acted, after getting demolished by YB last year, he couldn’t see a future for TLG.
But now, staring at the golden trophy before him, he choked up, “But this year—we’re back!”
As the camera zoomed in on Yuan Yang’s tear-filled eyes.
He was about to let other players give their acceptance speeches, but found that Jiang Lele was hugging Yu Hui and crying, “Fuck! Why wasn’t the last pentakill mine!”
Yu Hui turned his face away with patience, “Jiang Lele, don’t rub your snot on me.”
Yuan Yang turned his gaze to the ever-reliable Zhao Jiu. However, the usually tough guy also had red eyes, “Yang-ge, sniff sniff, sob sob sob…”
He was so choked with his sobs and unable to properly say anything.
The camera lens automatically gave it to Jiang Shi, who had just got a pentakill.
Yuan Yang looked at Jiang Shi, who was still looking cool, but his eyelids twitched violently.
He was really scared.
He quietly nudged Jiang Shi with his elbow and whispered, “Say something positive, or use what I taught you. “
Before going on stage, he rehearsed with everyone and even tailored a suitable acceptance speech for them.
Jiang Shi blinked and tried to recall, but he was too focused on the game just now. Now the animation of the opponent’s crystal explosion was still playing repeatedly in his mind.
He should have written that paragraph on the palm of his hand.
No matter how rich his inner thoughts were, Jiang Shi’s face was still cool. His flamboyant white hair, his sharp eyebrows, and his cool demeanor still made him looked unfazed.
When Jiang Shi’s face appeared on the big screen, the fans’ screams almost made him go deaf.
All five members of TLG shared the gold trophy in their hand. With a loud “Bang!” cheeful confetti streamed down, slowly falling down and landing on everything, as if it was trying to crown the newly-minted champions.
The feeling of winning the World Championship was completely different from the Spring Split.
In a foreign country, amidst doubts and denials, TLG won the championship.
Jiang Shi looked at the fans who stood up and cheered loudly. With the golden trophy in front of him, and a line of words suddenly appeared in his blank mind.
During the commentators’ continuous introduction in Korean, Jiang Shi clenched his hands hanging by his side, slowly raised them, and placed them on his heart.
Then, in a clear and steady voice, he declared—
“Chinese esports will never stop.”
This chapter makes esports sound so cool, then I remember what it really looks like lol
What does it actually look like? I don’t follow any e-sport but I like reading novels and manhwas with the topic
it really depends on what kind of e-sports you follow, really. For MOBA, honestly I rely a lot of the commentator/analyst talking over the situation because sometimes my brain just don’t understands what happened ;_; (beyond thinking it’s cool when a tense teamfight happens). A lot of screaming too lol. I imagine e-sports for shooters/turn-based games/card-games would look very different, and would definitely looked nerdy and boring to ppl who doesn’t understand the games.
idk i think it can get pretty intense too, it may look boring because it looks like just teams facing computers, but of course there’s a large screen that shows what they are playing.
