Wealthy Woof Chapter 47

A scheming dog who tattles

After taking a shower, Lu Chenghe stepped out to find Little Pudding squatting at the shower door, giving him a fierce look as if he had committed some unforgivable crime. This little guy had developed a habit of always appearing nearby, no matter what Lu Chenghe was doing.

For instance, during showers, Little Pudding would manage to open the bathroom door and sneak in. If the door was locked, he would howl outside, making it sound like a scene of dog abuse. If the door wasn’t locked, he would sit outside the shower as if abandoned.

Sometimes, when Lu Chenghe wanted to take a bath, he’d barely close his eyes before the chubby furball would leap into the tub like a cannonball. Initially, Lu Chenghe worried about the water temperature being too high for the dog’s skin, but he let it slide after a few baths with no issues.

Even during work, Lu Chenghe often felt a gaze from the side—either Little Pudding lying on the sofa silently watching or hiding under the desk and suddenly swatting his foot with his tail. If Lu Chenghe didn’t have a strong heart, he might have been scared countless times. The little rascal seemed to do it on purpose; when Lu Chenghe didn’t react, Little Pudding would boldly climb onto the desk, push aside the documents, and lie down next to the computer to sleep.

Recalling these antics, Lu Chenghe dried his hair and walked past Little Pudding without looking.

Zuo Ning whimpered, pounced on Lu Chenghe’s leg, and sat on his foot, tightly hugging his leg with all four paws. “Woof woof woof!” You promised to bathe together, you big liar!

Lu Chenghe glanced at the dog clinging to his leg and dragged the 40-pound Little Pudding back to the bedroom. At six months old and weighing 45 pounds, the vet said this weight was still within the standard range. All health check data was normal. With daily morning runs, Little Pudding was very healthy. Otherwise, Lu Chenghe would have enforced a strict diet for the hefty pup.

If Zuo Ning knew what Lu Chenghe was thinking, he would definitely complain. There are Samoyeds weighing 60 pounds at six months old! My weight is perfectly standard, okay? It’s just that my fur is a bit fluffy, making me look rounder.

After finally dragging the little rascal back to the room, Lu Chenghe sat on the bed, only to have Zuo Ning claw at his clothes, trying to climb up. If Lu Chenghe hadn’t reacted quickly, his pants might have been pulled off. He grabbed the dog and placed him on the bed, saying, “Behave yourself! If you keep causing trouble, you’ll sleep in your kennel tonight.”

Zuo Ning wasn’t intimidated by this empty threat. He stood up and clung to Lu Chenghe, whining, “Awoo!” You promised me kisses! Hurry up, or I won’t let you sleep tonight!

Lu Chenghe knew exactly what Zuo Ning was after. He lifted the blanket, stuffed the dog under it, and got up to walk away. Zuo Ning quickly crawled out of the blanket, jumped off the bed, and chased after him. Wherever Lu Chenghe went, Zuo Ning followed, and Lu Chenghe would speed up. Even though Zuo Ning knew Lu Chenghe was playing with him, he couldn’t resist chasing after him while mentally complaining about how childish Lu Chenghe had become.

Where had the aloof, cool guy gone?

The man and the dog continued their playful chase around the room for a while. Seeing Little Pudding getting more and more excited, Lu Chenghe finally grabbed him and said, “Alright, alright, no more playing. If you keep this up, you’ll dream about it tonight.”

Zuo Ning covered his face with his paws, whining, “Awoo!”

Lu Chenghe chuckled, leaned down, and kissed one side of Zuo Ning’s face, ending up with a mouthful of fur.

Zuo Ning immediately started rolling around on the bed, feeling triumphant. He thought Lu Chenghe had finally been trained by him. Back in the day, getting a kiss was so difficult—he’d even get rejected when he initiated it. But now, it felt like a milestone breakthrough!

Seeing the playful energy, Lu Chenghe climbed into bed and gave the chubby backside a light smack. “Are you going to sleep or not?”

Zuo Ning lay on his back, limbs curled, twisting his body as he looked at Lu Chenghe. “Awoo~”

Lu Chenghe lifted the blanket, causing the fluffy furball lying on it to roll along with it. If the bed hadn’t been big enough, Zuo Ning might have rolled right onto the floor. After struggling to get back up, he saw Lu Chenghe lying down on the bed and quickly crawled over to reclaim his usual spot. After a day of chaos, it was finally time to sleep properly.

Zuo Ning had initially wanted to talk to Lu Chenghe about the reality show filming earlier that day. Even though Lu Chenghe wouldn’t understand, communication was important. Who knows, with enough practice, Lu Chenghe might even reach level four in “dog language”. But before Zuo Ning could gather his thoughts and organize his words, he fell asleep, passing out like a “dead dog”.

Lu Chenghe noticed how Zuo Ning fell asleep almost instantly upon snuggling close, leaving him both amused and exasperated. He gently pinched the little paw sticking out from under the blanket, but there was no reaction. Shaking his head, he tucked the paw back under the blanket, leaving only Zuo Ning’s head exposed for breathing. Then, Lu Chnghe turned on his laptop to get some work done.

Before he could open his emails, a news notification popped up in the corner of his screen. The headline read, “Why Get a Boyfriend When You Can Have a Dog?” Glancing at the summary, Lu Chenghe saw it was about a house fire where the dog was the first to notice the danger. The dog woke up its two owners, and while the man ran outside immediately, the dog stayed behind, pulling at the woman until she also escaped. Only then did the dog follow her out.

Lu Chenghe didn’t click on the article, as stories of dogs saving their owners were quite common. After all, dogs are known as humanity’s most loyal friends. However, he couldn’t help but wonder—if it were his own dog, would Little Pudding cling tightly to his neck in fear, waiting for Lu Chenghe to carry him out instead?

He glanced sideways at Little Pudding, who was sleeping so soundly that he was even snoring. He thought that if anything serious happened at home, he would probably wake up earlier than Little Pudding. It was clear that relying on him was simply out of the question.

In his dream, Zuo Ning was having hotpot. The steaming, spicy broth cooked slices of meat, and he gulped down ice-cold cola, feeling inexplicably like he was reborn. Just as he was thoroughly enjoying himself, the restaurant staff approached to inform him that their establishment didn’t allow pets to dine in.

Confused, Zuo Ning thought he hadn’t brought any pets inside. Then he watched helplessly as the waiter carried off his bubbling hotpot, just when he was at the height of satisfaction. Panicked, he forgot how to walk properly, dropped to all fours, and suddenly transformed into a dog.

Zuo Ning woke up in fright, lying on the bed in a state of canine despair, staring at the not-yet-bright sky outside. His only regret was that he hadn’t finished eating that hotpot. “Woo wooo woo…”

After getting ready for the day, Lu Chenghe walked out to find Little Pudding awake but lazily refusing to leave bed. He amusingly grabbed hold of Little Pudding’s tail and teased, “You’re a Samoyed; how come you want to hibernate during winter? Get up, let’s go for a run.”

Still wrapped in his blanket, Zuo Ning turned his head toward Lu Chenghe and whined pitifully, “Woo wooo wooo…” My hotpot.

Lu Chenghe ignored his dramatic antics, lifted the blanket, scooped up the dog, and carried him downstairs. After all, with all that thick fur, he wouldn’t freeze.

When they returned from their run, both warm and energetic, they saw Lu Nianqi already sitting on the sofa, waiting for them to join him for breakfast. Beside him was a suitcase—most of his belongings had already been moved to his own place, and the suitcase likely contained the last few items.

Upon seeing Lu Chenghe, Lu Nianqi promptly stood up and greeted, “Second Brother.”

Lu Chenghe glanced at him and said, “Have you packed everything?”

Lu Nianqi replied, “Yes, it’s all sorted.”

Lu Chenge: “Living alone outside, be careful. Come back often for meals.”

Lu Nianqi nodded and agreed.

After Lu Chenghe went to change clothes, Lu Nianqi squatted down in front of Zuo Ning, looking at him: “You have to be good from now on. I won’t be able to play with you anymore. I wonder if you’ll miss me, though I guess you probably won’t. If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll take you out to play again.”

Zuo Ning placed his paw on Lu Nianqi’s knee and barked, “Woof!” Now you can roam freely. I’m envious of you.

Lu Nianqi smiled, held his paw, and shook it: “Are you saying goodbye to me? So clever.”

After breakfast, Zuo Ning followed Lu Chenghe to work, and Lu Nianqi completely left the Lu family home where he had stayed for a few months. Although the house had one less person, his presence wasn’t very noticeable, so Zuo Ning didn’t feel much difference and continued his carefree days of eating, drinking, and playing.

When the reality show episode aired, Lu Chenghe lay on the bed early. But this time, instead of opening emails, he clicked on the latest episode of the popular video series “Special No. 1 Family”.

Zuo Ning squeezed his head into Lu Chenghe’s arms, resting it on his chest, watching with him. It was the first time Zuo Ning had watched TV with Lu Chenghe like this. Although it felt a bit embarrassing, he was inexplicably excited.

The dynamic opening theme song played, followed by several exciting clips edited together to recap previous events. Naturally, it included his presence, showcasing his graceful running poses and clever searches for items. Feeling a bit shy, Zuo Ning buried his head into Lu Chenghe’s arm. Although he had watched himself on-screen before, for some reason, watching it together with Lu Chenghe made him feel bashful.

Once the recap concluded, several regular members appeared on the screen one after another. They chatted enthusiastically, tossing jokes back and forth, until it was time for the special guest to make an appearance.

Walking alongside Chu Hang, the guest was a significantly larger dog than the other two. With snow-white fur and dressed in a panda outfit, it was so adorably overwhelming that viewers practically swooned. Seeing the barrage of comments on the screen—people squealing, showering love, and passionately cheering for “Little Pudding”—Zuo Ning blushed and covered his face.

Lu Chenghe tilted his head slightly, pulling down his paw: “Are you feeling embarrassed seeing yourself?”

Zuo Ning squirmed against him, letting out a few hums and nuzzling into his arm.

The screen soon showed the scene where the little Poodle named Qiu Qiu dashed off, only to be abruptly pulled back. Zuo Ning thought this part would be edited out, but to his surprise, it was aired. Immediately, the comments began flooding in:

【Oh my gosh, does it have to be so rough? It looked like the dog hit the ground really hard.】

【Come on, Cheng! Be more mindful. It feels like a wave of haters is about to strike.】

【Such a small incident reveals so much—He Cheng’s real character isn’t all that great. He’s used the ‘dog lover’ persona to gain fans several times; now he’s exposed!】

【Handsome bro, you’re the best! Don’t bother with those random haters—we’ll always support you.】

Zuo Ning reached out a paw to touch Lu Chenghe. Lu Chenghe turned his head to look at him. Zuo Ning thought for a long moment before sighing helplessly. He wanted to explain that he didn’t mean to tease the dog—well, okay, he did—but he hadn’t expected it would cause the little one to take such a tumble. The one he meant to prank didn’t even get pranked! Still, he had made it up to the poor pup. During lunch, he made a point to give his beef jerky to the little Poodle, which led to the silly dog constantly clinging to him during the afternoon shoot.

Seeing Zuo Ning sigh so seriously, Lu Chenghe chuckled, “You did a great job—none of the other dogs can compare to you.”

Zuo Ning silently turned his head away. He didn’t feel like that was much of a compliment.

After a few rounds of comments flashing across the screen, the scene transitioned to the special guest standing with the regular members. They were just getting through a few welcome introductions when, all at once, every dog except Zuo Ning pounced into a joyful melee. Zuo Ning, however, stood coolly off to the side. With his snow-white fur, he would’ve been the very picture of an elite, charming dog if not for the panda headgear ruining his aesthetic.

【Our Little Pudding has clearly seen it all—just look at that calm and collected expression. Oh my gosh, I can’t stop laughing.】

【A dog who’s been places is built differently, hahaha!】

【Little Pudding’s inner monologue right now must be: ‘A bunch of silly dogs.’】

【My Pudding has an aura that’s 2.8 meters tall—seriously too handsome for anyone to handle.】

The chaotic scene eventually subsided. It seemed the director had anticipated the kind of chaos that would erupt with a group of dogs, so the stars were left to improvise. Unsurprisingly, the result was plenty of hilarious moments, flooding the comments with strings of “233333” and “66666”.

Since this episode involved teamwork with dogs, it became an individual points competition. The points earned would later be used in the ultimate escape room showdown to gain more time or additional clues for escaping. The main highlight of the “Special No. 1 Family” was its various escape games, both thrilling and entertaining, keeping viewers hooked.

The first game organized by the production team was retrieving lunch ingredients. Eight participants split into two teams, forming their groups freely, and then sent the dogs to fetch ingredient cards hanging in rows. The celebrities weren’t allowed to cross the line and could only rely on the dogs to fetch the cards. The fetched ingredients would be shared within the team, but the number of cards retrieved would also count toward individual points.

However, the dogs’ training levels varied, and since the celebrities weren’t the dogs’ owners, the production team kindly gave them time to bond with the dogs and provided crash courses in retrieving skills.

Lucky Lai Yang, who was assigned a Border Collie, became the target of everyone’s envy and competition. Border Collies are known for their intelligence, often learning tasks within just a few repetitions. Looking at the other dogs, there were the “three silly ones”—a Husky and a Samoyed, both of which were unreliable. Then there were the small breeds like Poodles, Chihuahuas, and Yorkshires, which seemed impossible to train and control. As a result, the unlucky celebrities paired with these smaller dogs were shunned by others and left to form their own group. The chaotic bickering and group-picking brought plenty of laughs.

Among the regular members, Tian Lele, paired with an adorable Yorkshire, dramatically declared, “We’ll rely on ourselves! Let’s show them that even small dogs can hold their own!”

While everyone assumed the rambunctious group of chaotic little troublemakers would stick together, Little Pudding suddenly ran to Lai Yang’s side. Instead of jumping on him, he gently tapped Lai Yang’s leg with his paw, gazing up at him with hopeful eyes.

Lai Yang couldn’t resist squatting down to hug him. “Oh my little cutie, how can you be this adorable? Alright, alright, we’ll be on the same team, okay?”

Seeing Lai Yang speak up, the others began joking with Chu Hang: “Look, even the dogs know to pick the strongest team. Our survival at lunchtime now depends on Teacher Lai!”

The live comments began flooding with laughter, represented by “233333.”

【Our Little Pudding grew up on pure cuteness—just look at how adorable he is!】

【Following the boss means good food—our Little Pudding is so clever.】

【The Border Collie says: Stick with me, and I’ll make sure you’re all well-fed!】

【Hahaha, what should we do? Looking at the other team, we have a Poodle, a Chihuahua, a Yorkshire, and a Husky. They’re practically destined to starve at lunch!】

【Husky: Darn it, you traitorous Samoyed! Get back here—we’re on the same team!】

Once the teams were settled, the chaotic dog training session began. However, despite having treats, most of the dogs were not professionally trained. Only the Border Collie showed any obedience to commands. No matter how much Chu Hang tried to guide Little Pudding, the calm pup remained seated, unbothered.

Compared to the other dogs—running around uncontrollably, refusing to be pulled back, pouncing on people for food, wrestling each other on the ground, or dedicating themselves to an epic dirt-digging mission—Little Pudding’s unruffled demeanor was like that of an aloof noble.

In the end, Chu Hang knelt on the ground in frustration, looking at Little Pudding and sighing helplessly: “My dear ancestor, could you please just move a little?”

【Little Pudding: Not moving, not moving, I’m just not moving, hahaha!】

【What should I do? I’m getting totally charmed by this tsundere dog—too adorable!】

【So what if Little Pudding isn’t moving? Look over there—check out that dog digging a hole like a pro. Clearly an expert at it!】

【Seems like today’s lunch depends entirely on the Border Collie. Poor other team—will they have to eat grass for lunch?】

【Oh dear, picking up the dog only for it to come running back to dig. Who knows, maybe there’s treasure buried underground!】

【Husky: Nobody move! I’m demolishing this place! Digging holes? Give me enough time, and I’ll drill through the Earth!】

The training session shown in the video only included a few funny highlights, but on the actual day, it took over an hour before the game could officially start.

The production team brought out a long frame with various acrylic boards printed with food images hanging from ropes. At the sound of a whistle, the clock started ticking. In their desperation for lunch, each participant tried their hardest to encourage the dogs to fetch a board. Any item would count, as long as the dog brought it back.

Watching the celebrities sweat profusely and almost wishing they could crawl over and grab the boards themselves was a sight to behold.

Yet, even the well-trained Border Collie seemed clueless, circling around its human in confusion.

While the online audience burst into laughter, leaving comments like “Nobody’s having lunch today; this is way too hard for the dogs”, the previously immovable Little Pudding suddenly sprang into action. With a leap, he grabbed an acrylic board printed with “Spicy Beef” and dashed back, placing it in Chu Hang’s hand.

The scene left all the celebrities on set stunned. One by one, they grew so excited they could hardly contain themselves, practically spinning in circles.

“Today’s lunch depends entirely on Brother Hang’s spicy beef!”

The opposing team, seeing such an impressive start, grew anxious. They started abandoning the rules, dropping to all fours to crawl alongside their dogs, tilting their heads as if to demonstrate how to grab the cards. Even with such obvious examples, their dogs remained oblivious, playing chase-and-bite games with each other, completely ignoring their humans. Some participants even collapsed onto the ground, dramatically crying out to the heavens.

【Oh my gosh! Staying still all this time, only to shock everyone once he moved!】

【Hahaha, look at the other team’s faces! Who said my Samoyed couldn’t be counted on? My Samoyed is incredibly smart, okay!】

【Rewound the video and rewatched Little Pudding sitting motionless. He probably thought to himself, ‘You amateurs.’】

【I bow to no one but Little Pudding!】

Watching the chaotic scene in the video, Lu Chenghe turned to Little Pudding. Seeing the pup look back at him, he chuckled and ruffled his head. “You’re this clever, huh?”

“Woof!” Absolutely!

Lu Chenghe smiled, “Look at how pleased you are with yourself.”

When the video showed the Border Collie successfully fetching the second card, Zuo Ning curled back into Lu Chenghe’s embrace. Without his guidance, how could the dogs, who couldn’t understand human language, figure out the chaotic game? Zuo Ning suddenly felt like he was doing good deeds anonymously.

Finally, after Zuo Ning intentionally went easy, the Husky managed to fetch a card. The card featured an image of stir-fried cabbage.

The lunch highlight turned out to be starkly contrasting: one side had five full dishes, while the other side had just a lonely plate of boiled cabbage. Originally, the show was going to include footage of the dogs eating, but since Little Pudding’s lunch was homemade and consisted of exquisite ingredients rather than regular dog food, the team decided to cut that footage out to avoid stirring up controversy.

Zuo Ning had assumed reality TV was just for show—that once filming was over, everyone would eat a proper meal. But to his surprise, the team that only earned a plate of cabbage truly only ate that one dish. Concerned about their stamina for the evening, each person was given two steamed buns as extra food.

Suddenly, Zuo Ning thought of something. When the camera cut to a close-up of He Cheng, Zuo Ning barked a few times at the screen, then patted Lu Chenghe’s hand and wagged his tail in front of him.

Observing this sequence of actions, Lu Chenghe raised an eyebrow slightly. “Did that guy pull your tail?”

Zuo Ning responded enthusiastically, “Awo!” He even tugged twice for emphasis!

Lu Chenghe patted Little Pudding on the head, thinking that his knack for tattling had truly reached perfection. Other people’s dogs might forget whatever mischief happened after just half a day of play, but his dog not only remembered the entire day but also knew how to complain about it. What a pampered little bundle of sass!
