FRGL chapter 54

Always Losing Your Temper Will Give You Wrinkles

“What’s wrong?” Colin, noticing Luo Hai’s reaction, asked considerately.

“Nothing.” Luo Hai withdrew his gaze, frowning. “I just find him annoying for some reason.”

“Huh?” Colin was taken aback.

Though his boss was known for being cold and sharp-tongued, it was always about work, never personal. Colin had never seen Luo Hai use the word “annoying” so directly for someone he was meeting for the first time.

Luo Hai didn’t dwell on it. He had eight cases to handle, and only after finishing them could he continue his usual work. As long as the newcomer didn’t interfere, everything would be fine.

However, things didn’t go as he expected.

After Colin left, just as Luo Hai refocused on his case files, a knock sounded at his door.

Luo Hai looked up to see the handsome new assistant leaning against the doorframe, knocking eagerly.

“Prosecutor Luo Hai? You’re Prosecutor Luo Hai, right?”

Despite the surge of unexplainable irritation, Luo Hai maintained the proper politeness expected when meeting someone for the first time.

“Yes. What do you need?”

The assistant’s expression immediately lit up with excitement. He strode forward in two quick steps and, without hesitation, grabbed Luo Hai’s hand—even though Luo Hai was still holding a pen—and started shaking it vigorously.

“I’ve heard so much about you! Finally, I get to meet you in person! You’re my lifelong idol—I grew up watching the cases you prosecuted…”

Luo Hai felt a vein twitch at his temple.

The assistant continued enthusiastically, “My name is  Enyouge Said. Today’s my first day on the job. I’m here to handle all sorts of paperwork for the prosecutors—document sorting, case file organization, fetching coffee, taking out the trash, you name it! And of course, since you’re my idol, if there’s anything else you need, just say the word! If it’s within my ability, I’ll do everything I can!”

Enyouge spoke at a rapid-fire pace, his words pelting out like machine-gun bullets. At the same time, he showed no intention of letting go of Luo Hai’s hand, shaking it energetically as he spoke.

“Anything I ask?” Luo Hai asked.

“Of course!”  Enyouge responded enthusiastically. “As long as I can do it, anything goes! If it’s for my idol, I wouldn’t even mind offering myself up!”

Luo Hai stood up, grabbed  Enyouge by the arm, and unceremoniously shoved him out the door. “Please leave. Thanks.”

Then, he slammed the door shut in  Enyouge’s face.

Luo Hai thought that after being shut out,  Enyouge would finally stop bothering him. But he had underestimated the assistant’s persistence—and his shamelessness.

For the rest of the day, the harassment never stopped.

Though  Enyouge didn’t knock on Luo Hai’s office door again, he seized every opportunity when Luo Hai left his office to approach him with various excuses.

When Luo Hai stepped out for water,  Enyouge appeared beside him, eagerly offering coffee, tea, juice, or milk while standing far too close—whether intentionally or not. It was as if the warmth from the rising steam wasn’t enough, and he needed to add his body heat to the mix.

When Luo Hai went to deliver documents,  Enyouge rushed over, insisting on carrying them as if the thin stack of paper could break the prosecutor’s delicate back. The more Luo Hai resisted, the more  Enyouge insisted on helping. The result? The documents scattered all over the floor. And as Luo Hai bent down to pick them up, he could feel  Enyouge’s unwavering gaze fixed on his ass.

Even during lunch break,  Enyouge wouldn’t relent, insisting on sitting at the same table as Luo Hai just so he could perform a magic trick for him.

Luo Hai had no interest in such tricks, but Colin was intrigued. Before Luo Hai could refuse,  Enyouge was already seated beside them, pulling out a deck of cards and a small top hat.

“Watch closely! This hat is called ‘Little Handsome,’ and this card is ‘Little Beauty,'” he chattered away. “Now, I’m going to separate them and put Little Beauty inside Little Handsome’s belly. What do you think will happen?”

“What will happen?” Colin played along, responding eagerly.

Enyouge held the deck between his fingers, swiftly spreading and retracting it in his hands. “Watch carefully.”

The cards seemed almost alive in his hands, flipping and shuffling with incredible dexterity. Finally, with a flick of his fingers, the entire deck fell into the hat. He then turned the hat upside down—yet not a single card fell out.

“Impressive!” Colin clapped in admiration.

“It’s not over yet.”  Enyouge smirked, reaching into the hat. After a moment of rummaging, he pulled out a vibrant red rose and held it out to Luo Hai, meeting his cold, emotionless gaze.

“For you, my idol,”  Enyouge said solemnly.

Luo Hai, of course, did not accept it. It took all of his self-control just to refrain from throwing the flower to the ground and stomping on it.

Barney from the neighboring office walked past Luo Hai’s table and saw the rose in Enyouge’s hand. He couldn’t help but joke, “You like Luo Hai that much, newbie?”

“Yeah.” Enyouge replied matter-of-factly, as if talking about the weather. “I came to work here just for Prosecutor Luo Hai. He’s my dream lover. I can’t even fall asleep at night without taking out his picture to look at and touch.”

Colin, who was drinking, choked so hard on his drink that he coughed for a long time, his face turning red.

Luo Hai’s expression darkened from pale to blue. He got up from his seat without even finishing his meal and walked away from the table.

But, of course, trouble wasn’t that easy to shake off.

Luo Hai walked into the restroom, but before he could turn on the faucet, Enyouge had already jogged in after him.

“Don’t be mad, Prosecutor Luo Hai. Did I say something wrong? If you don’t like it, I can change.” The rookie assistant looked at him with a pitiful expression.

Luo Hai felt his patience draining away with the throbbing vein at his temple. “Stay away from me.”

“Why? I just like you, Prosecutor Luo Hai. I can’t help but want to be close to you.” Enyouge looked even more aggrieved and reached out to grab Luo Hai’s wrist. “Please don’t hate me, okay? I’ll do anything—”

“Let go!” Luo Hai yanked his hand forcefully, but he couldn’t break free. “Get out!”

Not only did Enyouge refuse to let go, but he gripped even tighter. His expression was like that of a drenched puppy as he slowly leaned closer to Luo Hai until their bodies pressed together, the thin fabric between them barely enough to separate their warmth.

The restroom was empty. Only the approaching man, his heated, suggestive gaze, and his shallow breaths filled the space.

“I just really like you, I really admire you, Prosecutor Luo Hai…” Enyouge’s voice was low as his lips brushed against the back of Luo Hai’s ear, trailing down his neck, then finally to his jawline. He barely grazed the corner of Luo Hai’s lips in a fleeting touch. “Is that so wrong?”

“Are you insane?” Luo Hai’s patience finally snapped. He shoved Enyouge away, furious but still suppressing his voice. “Eugene Oddis!”

Enyouge Saide—no, Eugene Oddis—smiled and loosened his grip. He blinked, and the blue contact lenses he was wearing slipped slightly, revealing a trace of his original amber-colored iris beneath.

Luo Hai was on the verge of exploding.

He had always known Eugene was reckless beyond measure, but even he couldn’t have imagined that this man had the audacity to stroll right into enemy territory like this!

Enyouge Saide—what a joke! His name was just a scrambled version of Eugene Oddis!

“Don’t be mad, Prosecutor Luo Hai.” Eugene still had that infuriatingly playful grin, as if he weren’t risking his life infiltrating the prosecution office but simply playing some amusing role-playing game. “If you keep getting angry, you’ll get wrinkles.”

“I won’t even live long enough to get wrinkles—I’ll die from sheer rage because of you first!” Luo Hai’s voice rose slightly as he grabbed Eugene’s arm, dragging him toward the door. “You’re going to quit. Right now. Immediately.”

Eugene didn’t budge. When he decided to resist, Luo Hai simply didn’t have the strength to move him.

“I’m not leaving.” Eugene smirked, looking at Luo Hai with a teasing glint in his eyes. “I’ve only been here for a day. I haven’t even gotten my money’s worth.”

“You think this is a game?” Luo Hai’s fury surged as he glared at him. “Do you even realize what you’ve done? You’ve thrown Nantes into complete chaos, and the higher-ups are desperate to find you and tear you to pieces! You need to leave this place immediately!”

“I already told you—I’m not leaving.”

With that, Eugene flipped their positions in one swift motion, grasping Luo Hai’s wrist and effortlessly pinning him against the wall. He leaned down, forcing Luo Hai to meet his gaze.

“If I refuse to leave, what will you do?” Eugene murmured. “Right now, in this entire judicial system, you’re the only one who knows my real identity. Are you going to turn me in, Prosecutor Luo Hai?”

Luo Hai’s rage burned hotter, threatening to burst from his chest. “And how do you know I won’t?”

Eugene let out a low chuckle.

“Go ahead. If you want to report me, I won’t stop you. But at the same time, if you’ve come this far and still won’t turn me in, then that makes you an accomplice to harboring a fugitive, Prosecutor Luo Hai.”

He slowly leaned down, meeting Luo Hai’s gaze. “So whether you like it or not, you’re already on my side.”

Luo Hai’s fingers clenched against the sink, veins standing out on the back of his hand.

Just as the tension between them reached its peak, the bathroom door suddenly swung open.

Colin, completely unaware of what he had just walked into, froze in shock at the scene before him. His voice trembled as he cautiously called out to his boss, “B-boss…?”

Luo Hai snapped back to reality, shoving Eugene away. He straightened his tie and turned around. “What is it?”

“The Chief Prosecutor, Doyle, is calling a meeting,” Colin cleared his throat. “Right now.”
