WTDWPK Chapter 31

Happiness

He Ling called “husband” so naturally, it was clear she had practiced privately more than a few times. Not only did Fu Yuan and Fu Yuqian react, but even Song Yu felt a jolt in his head. Though many girls had called him “husband” before, hearing it from his future mother-in-law felt… strange. Just a few days ago, he had been smug about learning that his future mother-in-law was his fangirl, thinking it elevated his seniority, but now…

Fu Yuan strode over, intending to snatch the cat away. But Fu Yuqian was faster, pulling Song Yu back into his arms with a frown, his voice displeased: “Mom, consider Dad’s feelings.”

“Alright, alright,” He Ling sighed, a bit reluctant as the cat was taken away. She climbed into the passenger seat. “Lao San, take me to the hospital first. I won’t feel at ease until I see my husband with my own eyes.”

Fu Yuan, unwilling to speak harshly to his wife, opted for a more indirect approach, attempting to appeal to her sympathy. “He Ling, I’m a little tired. Wouldn’t it be better to go home and rest first?”

Sure enough, He Ling softened. “Then, Ying Qi, can you call another car for Uncle and go home with him to rest? Lao San can take me to the hospital. I should also meet my future daughter-in-law.”

“…” Fu Yuan pressed his lips together, his whole demeanor expressing his discontent. Song Yu felt a chill run through him—if he woke up, would his father-in-law have him silenced?

Ying Qi stifled a laugh. It had been like this since childhood. Uncle Fu Yuan, a powerful figure in the outside world, turned into a meek little lamb at home, utterly helpless against Aunt He Ling.

And this time was no different. In the end, Fu Yuan relented. “The timing works. We’ll go to the hospital together.”

“If you’re not feeling well, don’t force yourself,” He Ling’s beautiful light brown eyes were filled with concern. “I worry about you too, honey. Let me visit the hospital first, then I’ll come back to keep you company.”

“No need, I’m perfectly fine,” Fu Yuan said in a low voice and got into the car. Ying Qi followed closely behind.

Today, Fu Yuqian was driving a high-performance SUV, spacious enough for four people. Once the car started moving, he could no longer hold Song Yu, so he handed him over to his mother.

He Ling adored Song Yu, gently placing him on her lap and stroking his head. “Your name is Yiyi, right? How about coming back to E Country with me after the New Year? We have a big, beautiful garden at home.”

Lying on his mother-in-law’s lap felt like lying on a bed of nails. The back seat was exuding waves of cold air, making the winter even chillier. He was so terrified he didn’t even dare to meow.

Luckily, the roads weren’t congested, and they arrived at the hospital smoothly. As soon as the car stopped, Song Yu sprang up and leaped into Fu Yuqian’s arms, wrapping his little paws tightly around his neck. Scared the hell out of this cat.

Fu Yuqian secretly pinched the little bell on Song Yu’s collar, smirking. Finally afraid, huh?

Song’s mother had been waiting. She wore the clothes Fu Yuqian had gifted her and had put on light makeup. Though her features were delicate and elegant, there was a slight weariness in them. Even so, she still possessed a certain beauty, her brows carrying a melancholic air that made her look all the more pitiful.

Hearing footsteps, she quickly opened the door, and sure enough, it was Fu Yuqian and the others.

As expected, He Ling was very respectful towards Song’s mother. After hugging her, she warmly greeted, “Sister.”

At fifty-three years old, He Ling had already inquired about everything beforehand. Song’s mother was forty-five.

Song’s mother had never expected Fu Yuqian’s mother to be such a stunning, tall, and radiant beauty. If someone claimed she was only thirty-five, it wouldn’t even seem exaggerated. Her skin was flawless, her features exquisite, without a trace of wrinkles at the corners of her eyes or neck. Seeing this, Song’s mother suddenly felt inspired—maybe she could ask her for beauty tips.

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, they entered the ward. He Ling immediately went to the bedside, took Song Yu’s hand, and her eyes reddened. “Lo… Xiao Yu, I came to see you. Why have you been sleeping for so long? We’ve all been so worried.”

Song’s mother turned away, pressing her fingers against the corners of her eyes. Over the past month, she had buried all her pain deep inside.

Fu Yuqian gently placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Song Yu also quickly spoke words of reassurance.

Song’s mother composed herself and replied, “I’m fine, Xiao Fu.”

Fu Yuan, who initially had reservations about Song Yu, couldn’t help but soften when he saw him lying there, completely unaware. However, his jealousy still lingered.

“If you wake up, I’ll give you whatever you want,” He Ling said sorrowfully. She had wanted to return the moment she heard about Song Yu’s accident, but an important event required her presence alongside Fu Yuan, delaying her plans. She had constantly urged Fu Yuan to wrap up his work quickly so they could return home for the New Year. Worn down by her persistence, Fu Yuan had no choice but to speed up his schedule.

Song Yu genuinely liked He Ling as well, though he still couldn’t figure out why he hadn’t woken up yet.

He Ling stayed with Song Yu for a while. Soon, it was lunchtime, and Ying Qi had reserved a quiet private dining room in the hospital cafeteria. As they arrived, the final dish was just being served.

During the meal, He Ling spoke up. “Sister, I know it was abrupt of me to visit like this, so I brought a suitcase full of gifts for you. They’re all in the hospital room—practical things you can use. But I didn’t prepare them to bribe you into agreeing to Xiao Yu and Yuqian’s relationship. It’s simply because, as a fan, I wanted to give a gift to my idol’s mother.”

“You’re being too polite, He Ling.” Song’s mother found it impossible to call He Ling “sister” when she looked so youthful, so she simply addressed her by name. “I won’t interfere in the young ones’ affairs. As long as Xiao Yu is happy, I’ll support it.”

“You have such a great mindset, sister. But unfortunately, I’m over thirty years older than Xiao Yu,” He Ling sighed in mock distress.

Fu Yuan nervously paused mid-bite, worried that after just one trip back home, his wife might run away.

Song Yu did his best to minimize his presence.

Fu Yuqian’s forehead twitched.

Song’s mother was amused. “He Ling, you’re too adorable.”

After finishing the meal, He Ling prepared to head back to rest. She bid farewell to Song’s mother reluctantly before finally getting into the car and exhaling deeply. “I was so nervous meeting my sister just now—more nervous than when I met honey’s parents in my youth.”

Fu Yuan warned, “He Ling, don’t mess around.”

“Xiao Yu looks like such an angel when he’s asleep.” He Ling held Fu Yuan’s hand. “Honestly, he’s too good for Lao San.”

Song Yu nodded seriously—I think so too.

“Yuqian,” Fu Yuan said solemnly, “since you love Song Yu, you must stay loyal to him, unwavering and devoted for life. Understood?” The underlying message was clear—don’t give Song Yu any chance to charm others.

Fu Yuqian responded seriously, “I understand. I swear on my honor.”

Song Yu sneaked a glance at Fu Yuqian, his eyes curving into a smile. This is great. I’m really happy right now. o( ̄▽ ̄)o
