MGRMFL Chapter 3.2

Gaming: Jungle King & Ranking Up

Yan Linjian: “Then do you miss me? Do you miss the dumplings mum makes? Do you miss our dad, our grandpa, our uncle, our aunt, and our siblings?”

“I miss mum’s dumplings. I miss grandpa, uncle, aunt, and little sister.”

Yan Suici’s response conveniently left out some people, and Yan Linjian felt like he’d just been given the cold shoulder. He complained a little, then hung up the phone.

A few minutes later, his brother sent him a New Year’s red envelope. Yan Linjian smiled broadly, feeling that his brother still cared for him.

Thinking about it carefully, Yan Suici was actually very comfortable abroad. There was no one pressuring him about marriage, and he didn’t have to deal with that scoundrel Cheng Song… Speaking of Cheng Song, Yan Linjian suddenly remembered that someone in their group chat mentioned that Cheng Song had a new love?

Yan Linjian found the chat history from that time. It said that Cheng Song’s company had signed a new talent named He Nianjun. Cheng Song treated this person very well, giving him many resources and even taking him to various banquets.

The key point was that at one of the annual banquets, someone had heard Cheng Song call him Suici!

It wasn’t hard to find information about the young actor. Yan Linjian had a careful look and noticed that aside from having similar eyes and a mole, the actor was completely different from his brother. Moreover, the actor was only in his early twenties, full of youthful energy that was worlds apart from his brother’s old-fashioned scholarly demeanour.

Yan Linjian felt utterly disgusted. Cheng Song had chased his brother for so long, and did so many embarrassing things that made both their families awkward. Yan Linjian had thought Cheng Song was very devoted, but now that his brother had just gone abroad, Cheng Song couldn’t wait to find a new love. So sickening, this person was definitely not worthy of his brother.

During the New Year’s visits, Yan Linjian had both openly and secretly mocked Cheng Song about this matter. Cheng Song didn’t dare offend him, so he didn’t say anything in public, but secretly begged him not to tell his brother.

“I won’t tell my brother. He doesn’t care about your news at all. It’s me who finds you disgusting.” Yan Linjian rolled his eyes at him, “Now that you’ve found a replacement, don’t bother my brother anymore.”

Cheng Song explained: “There’s nothing between Nianjun and I.”

Yan Linjian scoffed: “If there’s nothing going on between you two, then my brother can bloom as an old tree.”

His brother wouldn’t be back until the summer of the following year. Without Yan Suici’s supervision, Yan Linjian peacefully passed through the entire spring and summer semester. He didn’t get into another relationship, and the initial excitement from the start of university had faded, and he had settled down quite a bit. Last semester, he passed all his exams and even barely qualified for a scholarship. This year, he was determined to earn a scholarship to give Yan Nanshan a good slap in the face.

Of course, this was also thanks to Qi Jingzhi. After coming of age, this guy hadn’t found a partner and spent all his time tinkering with codes. His reputation at school grew more and more, and the forum was full of people calling him “Qi-shen.” There were plenty of girls who liked him, but Qi Jingzhi always claimed he was busy saving up for his dowry and didn’t have time for romance.

Yan Linjian couldn’t understand his logic. He didn’t have a wife, so what was the point of saving up for a dowry?

Days passed by in dullness until his brother came back. Cheng Song, that idiot, made a public love confession at the airport, once again dragging his brother into an embarrassing situation.

When Yan Linjian saw the trending topic, he was so furious that his head felt dizzy. If it weren’t for his brother’s good temper, he would’ve kicked Cheng Song right into the pile of roses. Having a little actor as a stand-in wasn’t enough for him, he had to drag his brother down with him as well.

Yan Linjian was feeling troubled and discussed it with Qi Jingzhi: “Do you think I should tell my brother that Cheng Song got a stand-in?”

This was beyond Qi Jingzhi’s understanding, so he thought for a moment and said: “If Professor Yan doesn’t like Cheng Song, he probably won’t care.”

“What you said makes sense, telling him would only add to his troubles.”

Yan Linjian went to find his brother, only to learn that Yan Suici wouldn’t be teaching next semester because he was going to work as some kind of historical consultant for a film.

A film…

He Nianjun’s name flashed through Yan Linjian’s mind, but he reassured himself that it probably wouldn’t be that coincidental.

After saying all this, Yan Linjian started worrying about his brother’s love life again: Over the past year abroad, hadn’t his brother met someone he was interested in?

“No.” Yan Suici said, annoyed by his chatter, and after packing his things, he left the school.

Yan Linjian didn’t get any answers from his brother and returned to the dormitory, feeling down. There wasn’t much fun in the dormitory either. Qi Jingzhi was coding, Shen Yang and Miao Xin were gaming. Yan Linjian sat at his desk for a while, then dragged his chair over to Qi Jingzhi’s side.

Qi Jingzhi took off his headphones, tilting his head to look at him, silently asking what was wrong.

Yan Linjian: “My brother won’t be teaching this semester.”

“What?!”

“Really?”

Before Qi Jingzhi could say anything, the other two reacted strongly. They had hooked up with quite a few girls using their status as Professor Yan’s brother’s roommates. This was big news to them.

Shen Yang: “Why isn’t Professor Yan teaching?”

Yan Linjian glanced at him and said: “He has other work.”

“I see…” Shen Yang tapped away on his phone, it was clear he was passing on the information.

Yan Linjian wasn’t really interested. He was feeling down, but he couldn’t quite explain why.

Qi Jingzhi: “Are you upset because Professor Yan isn’t teaching?”

“It’s not that I’m upset. My brother is from the History Department anyway, whether or not he teaches doesn’t really affect me. His elective courses won’t be easier for me just because I’m his brother. I just… feel like my brother and my dad are having a falling out.”

The relationship between the father and son had always been tense. They even had a fight over the choice of personnel before the overseas visit. Yan Suici has the capability to lead the team, but the fact that he and the principal are father and son was bound to attract criticism. He had thought they might patch things up when his brother returned, but instead, he was going straight to a film set. It was clear he didn’t want to have any contact with Yan Nanshan.

“My skull hurts. How can two adults arguing be more childish than elementary school students? Ignoring each other like this.”

Yan Linjian rubbed his temples, and a warm, strong hand gently pressed on the back of his head, applying a comfortable amount of pressure.

Qi Jingzhi: “Does it hurt a lot?”

“No…” Yan Linjian couldn’t help but laugh, “It doesn’t hurt. When I say my skull hurts, I mean I’m really frustrated. You should go surf the internet more, how are you going to talk to girls in the future?”

“Why not just not talk to them?” Qi Jingzhi’s hand remained on his head, his fingers slipping into Yan Linjian’s soft hair. He twirled a strand of it around his fingertip, his actions filled with tenderness.

Yan Linjian didn’t realize what was happening on the back of his head. He casually bumped Qi Jingzhi’s leg with his own and laughed: “If you don’t talk, how are you going to get a wife? You’ll be single forever!”

Qi Jingzhi: “You talk to so many girls, but yet you’re still single?”

What a brat, even starting to tease him like that.

Yan Linjian stubbornly said: “That’s because I don’t want to date anymore. I’m still very popular! A few senior girls even added me today!”

Although it was mostly to ask about his brother.

The smile in Qi Jingzhi’s eyes suddenly faded, and he murmured: “You’ve had enough of girls your age, and now you’re even going after senior girls?”

“…”

Why did this make him sound like a playboy, even though he was the one who had been confessed to and dumped!

“Qi Jingzhi, you’re really getting more and more… disrespectful.”

He somewhat misses the initial, more reserved Qi Jingzhi.

“I was wrong.” Qi Jingzhi was quick to admit his mistake. He finished typing out his code in a flash and then said to Yan Linjian, “Let me treat you to a meal. What do you want to eat?”

“Not hungry.” A simple meal and he expects him to forgive him?

Qi Jingzhi: “I’ll help you rank up tonight.”

“… Fine.” Yan Linjian reluctantly agreed.

Not only was Qi Jingzhi amazing with computers, but he was also extremely skilled at various games. He registered an account the day before, spent the entire night reading guides, and within two days, he reached the same rank as Yan Linjian. Clearly, he definitely has some talent for this.

Qi Jingzhi: “Then let’s go eat first.”

Yan Linjian: “Alright.”

Can’t blame him for being easily persuaded, the feeling of being carried was just too exhilarating. Who could resist a 20-0 jungle king?

The author has something to say:

Wish everyone who plays games can match up with godly teammates.
