ALWARFC Chapter 52

Moonlit: This extra chapter is sponsored by Sagey.

The atmosphere, already filled with tension, plummeted into a chilling silence when You Sui entered. The three juniors exchanged bewildered glances, momentarily lost in confusion.

Su Ran’s expression reflected despair—a mix of being betrayed and caught red-handed; Song Qing widened his eyes, glancing around frantically, resembling someone standing amidst a melon patch, unsure of which one to start with. Su Ning’s pupils trembled before he cautiously scrutinized the man who had just entered, carefully weighing the authenticity of his earlier words.

Meanwhile, the instigator of the turmoil calmly settled beside Su Weisheng, even picking up some nearby documents with apparent interest. He flipped through them casually and chuckled, “What are you investigating? Gu Shuangshuang… sounds like a girl’s name, doesn’t it?”

Su Weisheng took the documents out of his hand and said, ” This is Official business; don’t fool around.”

You Sui’s expression turned somber as he lowered his gaze to his empty palm. The slight curl of his bangs clung to his cheek, casting shadows over his face that made him seem gloomy and restrained. He sighed lightly, “So heartless—use me and toss me aside. Now you even guard against me while working…”

His brief chuckle carried an unsettling chill that made everyone shiver inexplicably.

Witnessing his mercurial mood swings, the group felt their hearts skip a beat, fearing he might lose his temper with the ancestor in front of them.

Unfazed, Su Weisheng didn’t even blink. He directly rolled the documents into a bundle and heavily tapped You Sui’s forehead, reprimanding him calmly, “Le’er, act like an elder in front of your great-grandchildren. Su Ning and I have official matters to discuss inside. Keep guard and don’t let anyone in.”

You Sui was momentarily stunned, and the others tensed visibly.

The next moment, Director You, who had just been reprimanded, showcased a dramatic “face-changing” performance.

You Sui curved his fox-like eyes in delight, adopting an attitude of gentle meekness completely contrary to his usual nasty demeanor. With an affectionate tone, he replied, “Alright, you can handle your official business without worry. Leave the household matters to me—I guarantee no one will disturb you.”

The others: “…”

Before Su Ran could even react, great-grandfather had already taken Su Ning away, leaving him, Song Qing, and You Sui in the living room. The great-grandson couldn’t help but curiously ask, eyeing You Sui’s smug expression, “Great-grandmother, aren’t you upset that great-grandfather didn’t take you along to handle official matters?”

“What’s there to be upset about?” You Sui smiled sweetly. “He has acknowledged my position, hasn’t he? If I don’t seize this perfect chance to cooperate with him now, wouldn’t that be absolutely foolish?”

Simply because Su Weisheng affirmed his status with one sentence, You Sui not only forgave being excluded from official matters but instantly transformed from a malicious troublemaker into a dutiful and gentle spouse. The speed of his “face-change” left everyone utterly dumbfounded.

Su Ran was left in stunned disbelief: “As expected of great-grandmother…”

You Sui glanced disdainfully at his rather brainless great-grandson, who only seemed adept at stirring chaos. With a smirk, he remarked, “Zhaocai, keeping you here as nothing more than a third wheel isn’t ideal. How about I arrange a marriage for you?”

Su Ran protested, “Great-grandmother, I’m a man! I’m the family’s only male descendant. Future generations will depend on me!”

Unfazed, You Sui coolly retorted, “There’s no need. Since you already call me great-grandmother, it’s only natural that I should give your great-grandfather a child or two.”

That shocking declaration left Su Ran and Song Qing staring at him in utter alarm.

Having thoroughly terrified the juniors, You Sui felt even more delighted. He leaned lazily against the sofa, closed his eyes, and rested peacefully. The lingering traces of Sheng Sheng’s presence beside him swiftly soothed his emotions.

Of course, You Sui had no intention of bearing children; his comment was nothing more than a mischievous joke from a troublemaker. Moreover, the long-standing understanding in their family about who leads and who follows in bed had already been settled. From past to present, the one constant was that Sheng Sheng never rejected his closeness.

A silent smile curved his lips.

More importantly, two hundred years ago, he had prepared a rather significant surprise for Sheng Sheng. Seeing Su Ning today, whose appearance was almost identical to Yinzi’s, made him realize that the boy had indeed followed his advice back then.

Ah, he couldn’t wait to see Sheng Sheng’s expression upon discovering the truth—it was bound to be absolutely adorable.

As Su Weisheng entered the study, everything finally fell into peaceful silence.

Su Weisheng was reviewing Gu Shuangshuang’s profile: born in a remote town, she had applied to an arts school due to her academic excellence and good looks. Her most notable work was a supporting role in a historical romance drama. She briefly gained attention for a subtle girl-on-girl subplot with Su Anyao, the first female lead, but quickly faded from the spotlight due to a lack of follow-up resources. Notably, Su Anyao, who had been paired with her in the drama and was hailed as a top-tier beauty in the LGBTQ community, rose to stardom steadily afterward.

Recently, Gu Shuangshuang’s last known activity was a social media post from a week ago announcing her plan to travel. After that, there was no further news.

Su Ning remarked, “I tracked her movements. Her last recorded trip was a flight to P City. Based on her own statement on Weibo, she wanted to relax at a mountain resort, but the exact location remains unknown, and there’s no record of her booking any accommodations. So, either she met with an accident en route, or she stayed at an unregistered, small guesthouse.”

The fact that Su Ning knew Gu Shuangshuang was already dead stemmed from his contact with Yan Wan.

Su Weisheng mused, “Gu Shuangshuang was raised by her grandparents after her parents divorced. A few years ago, her grandparents passed away one after the other, leaving her essentially with no close family. After her debut, she didn’t achieve much, so her agent likely didn’t prioritize her. Unsurprisingly, no one noticed her disappearance for a week.”

“Yes,” Su Ning added, “She mentioned multiple times in public that Su Anyao was the only person she trusted in this world. Yet, despite Gu Shuangshuang being missing for a week, Su Anyao hasn’t reacted, as if she hasn’t even noticed the disappearance. I’ve arranged for Su Qian to contact Su Anyao to try and find a breakthrough, but her agent said she’s currently shooting a film on location, so the earliest Su Qian can meet her is tomorrow.”

After thinking for a moment, Su Ning added, “By the way, that novel you successfully predicted would fail to get a TV adaptation—Su Anyao was originally slated to be the first female lead for that project.”

Su Weisheng chuckled lightly, “I remember her. Do you think it could have been her doing?”

Su Ning said solemnly, “Su Qian believes she was responsible, reasoning that they were true lovers who had a breakup, and she had dirt on the other person. I, however, suspect there may be a deeper conspiracy here, especially since Miss Yan mentioned that even the underworld cannot locate her soul. It sounds like a practitioner of metaphysical arts is causing trouble behind the scenes.”

“Her death and who’s involved don’t matter,” Su Weisheng casually tossed the files onto the table, speaking lazily, “What matters is finding her spirit quickly so I can exploit the glitch in the Book of Life and Death.”

Su Ning was shocked. ” Is there a glitch in the Book of Life and Death that can be exploited?”

“Yes,” Su Weisheng replied, casting him a meaningful look, “And the reason for exploiting the glitch is connected to you. If this matter is handled well, it might even unravel your family’s century-old mystery.”

“Oh, alright.” Su Ning hesitantly agreed, though he couldn’t shake a fleeting chill he had felt moments ago—a subtle discomfort that vanished before he could grasp it fully.

Glancing at his phone, Su Weisheng noted that it was nearly time for the live stream. Rising to leave, he casually encouraged Su Ning, “Do it well. If you handle this properly, I’ll allow you to request a reward.”

Su Ning was both flattered and surprised, smiling, “Serving great-grandfather loyally is already the greatest reward for me. How could I be so greedy as to ask for more?”

“It’s fine, you can ask. It’s a family tradition—elders always give juniors a welcome gift,” Su Weisheng remarked, shooting him a sidelong glance, “But if you don’t want one, don’t let yourself secretly envy Zhaocai’s earrings every day.”

“Oh no, you found me out!”

Su Ning felt no guilt whatsoever about having his jealousy exposed. Instead, he sighed dramatically, “It’s not just that I’m sour about how well you treat him; I’m blaming myself for being careless and not reconnecting with you earlier. Since you’ve said so, I won’t hold back anymore.”

He blinked, his handsome face lighting up with a cheerful smile as he said softly, “If you’re really going to give me a welcome gift, how about renaming me like you did for my cousin? Hearing you call him by his nickname every day is making me insanely jealous.” To Su Ning, a new name symbolized recognition—precisely what he wanted.

Su Weisheng’s expression turned subtly peculiar upon hearing this request. He looked back at Su Ning’s earnest demeanor, and the more he observed, the more his gaze turned even more nuanced. It was his first time encountering someone so eager to have their name changed, leaving him slightly unprepared.

Besides, these two cousins were quite the comedic duo. Zhaocai envied Su Weisheng calling “Ning Ning” every day, while Su Ning envied him calling “Zhaocai”. Each was convinced that their great-grandfather favored the other, leading to mutual jealousy.

Su Weisheng patted Su Ning’s head and replied meaningfully, “Alright, if this is what you want, I’ll definitely give you a new name when the time comes.”

“Thank you, great-grandfather!” Su Ning exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with joy.

When the two finished their work and stepped out, the living room was already empty. Su Weisheng casually went to the restroom, while Su Ning strolled outside with an air of triumphant joy, relishing the feeling of surpassing Zhaocai. As he stepped into the courtyard, he unexpectedly ran into You Sui, causing him to pause.

Su Ning had naturally heard of You Sui, the mastermind behind the entire program. It wasn’t just his high status in the entertainment industry that caught Su Ning’s attention; it was his surname, You, belonging to the Jinzhou You family—a prestigious clan of metaphysical arts practitioners rivaling the Su family. He vaguely recalled his father mentioning that You Sui held a somewhat enigmatic and extraordinary position within the You family, concealing secrets that were not shared publicly.

He discreetly assessed the man in front of him. Reflecting on the subtle tacit understanding between him and his great-grandfather, Su Ning became even more cautious. Outwardly, however, he maintained a relaxed smile and greeted him naturally, “Mr. You, hello. I’m Su Ning.”

You Sui sat in the pavilion with his legs crossed, his recently used phone placed to the side. Hearing Su Ning’s voice, he smiled and said, “I thought you’d be like Su Ran and call me ‘great-grandmother’ right off the bat.”

Su Ning stepped forward and calmly explained, “I wasn’t sure if such a title might offend you. Of course, out of consideration for great-grandfather, you wouldn’t hold it against us. But as a junior, I wouldn’t casually make up stories about the elders before you’ve given your consent.”

His response not only showcased his thoughtfulness but also slyly jabbed at Su Ran’s antics of promoting the ambiguous “RedBlack” CP, subtly provoking dislike for the “great-grandmother” title and demonstrating a touch of mischief.

You Sui narrowed his eyes and thoughtfully examined this youth, whose smile bore an uncanny resemblance to Su Laiyin. After scrutinizing him long enough to make him somewhat uncomfortable, he finally said leisurely, “Well said. My efforts to secure that unique cultivation method back then weren’t wasted. Preserving your lineage has proven worthwhile—a far cry from that irritating Su Laijin.”

Su Ning didn’t quite understand the remark, looking a little puzzled.

You Sui rose slowly, patted Su Ning’s shoulder, and offered no explanation, leaving him with one statement: “Fight for favor and make your grandfather value you more. Su Zhaocai will eventually be married off. The Su family’s continuation depends on you, child. Don’t worry—I’ll always support you.”

Although Su Ning didn’t fully grasp his words and felt slightly bewildered, he recognized this strong endorsement as a blessing. Compliantly, he responded, “Rest assured, I’ll be a thousand times more useful than my cousin.”

The two exchanged smiles, silently forming an alliance.

At 4:30 in the afternoon, the live stream studio in the main hall.

With half an hour left before the broadcast began, Su Weisheng was lazily reclining on the sofa, resting. The father and son from the Lu family sat nearby, glancing around curiously. Old Lu leaned in and asked, “Little great-grandfather, why don’t we see Ran Ran?”

Su Weisheng gestured toward the kitchen, “He’s biting back and forth with Su Ning, who came to visit.”

Everyone turned to look, and sure enough, the two cousins were busy—one brewing tea and the other mixing cocktails—while throwing verbal jabs and mocking each other relentlessly. Their antics had reached the pinnacle of childish rivalry.

At some point, You Sui had quietly settled next to Su Weisheng, casually enjoying a box of pastries. Su Weisheng glanced at him, and You Sui offered a piece of dessert, holding it to his lips, “Want a taste?”

Su Weisheng didn’t refuse, taking a bite and swallowing it before asking with mild curiosity, “Aren’t you supposed to be busy with serious matters? What are you doing here, joining the fun?”

With unabashed confidence, You Sui replied, “The world is now promoting the Red Black CP—everyone knows I’m yours. Of course, I must show off what a virtuous spouse I am.”

Hearing this, Su Weisheng’s mouth twitched slightly. It could only be said that this man was truly shameless to an extreme. Before recovering his memories, he might’ve hesitated over whether “Le’er” was male or female. But after regaining them, he had become utterly bold and unrestrained, making the most of every opportunity to publicly declare their relationship while sticking close to his partner.

Unimpressed, Su Weisheng pushed the clingy romantic away and casually remarked, “Virtue isn’t demonstrated in such superficial ways. A man without ambition? I wouldn’t want him.”

You Sui clung like a persistent adhesive, refusing to be shaken off. Hearing Su Weisheng’s remark, he raised his eyebrows and replied, “How do you know I don’t have ambition? That’s an unfair accusation, Sheng Sheng. I’ve put quite a bit of effort into ensuring today’s live stream not only satisfies you but also boosts viewership.”

Su Weisheng gave him a skeptical glance. “What kind of mischief are you up to now?”

You Sui didn’t answer.

Instead, the sound of high heels clicked closer and closer, followed by the appearance of a graceful actress in a light-colored long dress, guided in by the staff. Her expression carried an air of apology as she said, “I’m sorry I’m a bit late. I hope I didn’t miss anything.”

Someone exclaimed, “Huh? Su Anyao?”

The actress nodded politely and introduced herself, “Hello, I’m Su Anyao, today’s special guest.”

Su Weisheng silently turned back to look at You Sui, who responded by blinking his fox-like eyes repeatedly at him, radiating an almost exaggerated charm as if he were wagging an imaginary fox tail to demand praise.

Wonderful—yet another one of You Sui’s troublemaking schemes, adding fuel to the fire while savoring the chaos.
