DL Chapter4

Long Time Ago

Min Zhi’s mood was unpleasant the entire night, not because of the blind date, but because of Fu Baiqi.

He has never been one to casually speculate about others’ private lives; he has no curiosity about such things. However, the person in question is someone he has liked for a long time, so these matters are of particular concern to him.

The other Omega who had been looking for him at the company that day, in his view, the two of them were already living together, so it was impossible that they had no relationship. They were at least lovers. As for the scene at the company gate that day, it might have just been a quarrel. And the other beautiful Omega…

He had originally remained skeptical, thinking that they were just friends. But the phone call in the parking lot, where the person on the other end was very likely Fu Baiqi, made it impossible for him to believe that they were merely friends.

Min Zhi walked into the bathroom in frustration. His feelings for Fu Baiqi had become increasingly complicated. Although he liked him in his heart, he just couldn’t accept that he would do something like that.

If this had happened with someone else, although they might not say anything outwardly, privately, unless there was some kind of cooperation, they wouldn’t continue to deal with someone so lacking in personal morals. But when it came to Fu Baiqi, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of disappointment, like hating iron for not becoming steel.

He found this feeling laughable. He had no relationship with him, so why should he be concerned about someone else’s personal matters?

This feeling persisted all the way until the next morning.

When Fu Baiqi got close to him, the faint chamomile scent of his pheromones was almost nonexistent, replaced instead by another scent—one that belonged to the Omega from the parking lot. Min Zhi’s tense expression was on the verge of cracking.

He knew that no one in the world was perfect, and he couldn’t expect others to live up to his standards in their private matters. But perhaps it was because he had been educated differently from others since childhood that matters of personal integrity became his bottom line.

He endured without letting personal emotions interfere with official matters. After the meeting ended, he directly left, and even though he heard Fu Baiqi calling him from behind, he didn’t respond.

The projects that the company has been busy with recently are almost coming to an end, and a few colleagues who have been working on the planning together have made plans to go out for drinks with Fu Baiqi.

He wasn’t in a good mood today, with everything piling up and making him feel stifled. He agreed to go out for drinks to relax a bit. Tomorrow is a day off, and since it’s rare for everyone to relax, they kept drinking until almost midnight. He originally planned to go to Bai Zhen’s house, but since it was so late and he was worried he’d be asleep, he had no choice but to head home.

He had drunk a bit too much and was stumbling as he walked, but his mind was still clear.

He barely made it back home, and the lights inside were off. Fu Baiqi felt even more irritated. He casually changed his shoes, threw his coat on the sofa, and walked straight into the study. Since marrying Fang Fengzhi, he had been sleeping in there. He was about to head to the bathroom for a shower when, suddenly, the light in the bedroom turned on.

Fang Fengzhi leaned in closer. “Baiqi? Did you drink?”

Fu Baiqi’s eyes inexplicably brightened as he looked at Fang Fengzhi. The Omega’s pheromones filled the entire room—wasn’t his heat already over? He glanced at his glands, which were completely exposed, smooth, and bare, and it made him feel a surge of frustration.

“Dammit,” he cursed aloud. “You didn’t put on an inhibitor patch again.”

Fang Fengzhi froze for a moment. This was the first time he had heard his Alpha husband curse. A sense of unease he couldn’t quite explain stirred in his chest. “I thought you weren’t coming back tonight…”

He had thought that since Fu Baiqi hadn’t come back so late, he probably wouldn’t return at all, so he had quietly taken off the inhibitor patch. Wearing such a thing for too long was uncomfortable.

The inhibitor patch was meant to block the release of pheromones from the glands. Anything that went against natural instincts was never good for the body. He already couldn’t receive the calming effect of Alpha pheromones, and now blocking his own pheromone release only made things worse. After wearing it for too long, the pheromones clashed inside his body, and the feeling of heat became more intense. It was like having blocked air—suffocating, stifling, and painfully itchy.

Fu Baiqi stopped paying attention to him, pushing him aside as he walked toward the bathroom. However, after only a few steps, his drunken, weakened body tripped over something unknown and nearly fell to the ground.

Seeing him like this, the Omega hurried over and helped him up. “You’re a bit drunk. Let me take you to the bathroom…”

Fu Baiqi tensed his nerves, trying to control himself from losing his rationality due to Fang Fengzhi’s pheromones.

Take him to the bathroom?

Seeing him like this, it was clear he was trying to seduce him, to use the opportunity to get marked and then have his child, trapping him in a lifetime of entanglement.

He recalled the phone call from his mother this morning, where she told him to calm down and have a child. Fu Baiqi sneered. It must have been Fang Fengzhi who said something in front of her.

Damn it, he was irritated to the extreme. He looked at the fake, insincere face of the Omega in front of him and suddenly reached out, grabbing his hair. “What did you say to my mom?”

His hair was pulled painfully, and Fang Fengzhi struggled to tug at Fu Baiqi’s hand. “Nothing… Baiqi, Baiqi, don’t hold on to me like this…”

Seeing the Omega struggle in pain under his grip, Fu Baiqi’s heart shifted. He suddenly let go of his hand, his heart pounding rapidly. The alcohol cleared from his mind in an instant. In that brief moment, he had felt an urge to dominate, even wanting to hurt Fang Fengzhi. With a stern expression, he turned without a word and walked into the bathroom. The door slammed shut with a hollow sound.

Fang Fengzhi was left standing there, his heart still trembling. He took a deep breath, his face pale, and glanced at the bathroom door for a moment before hurriedly walking out.

He was frightened by Fu Baiqi’s expression. Although Fu Baiqi usually didn’t like to pay attention to him, he never went as far as to take action. But just now…

Fang Fengzhi pressed his hand to his chest, then grabbed a suppression patch from the drawer and hurried to the guest room.

In the morning, Fu Baiqi woke up with a splitting headache. He looked around, and the environment seemed unfamiliar. He wasn’t in the study.

“Hiss…” He pressed his head, getting up from the bed. The memories of last night gradually flooded back into his mind. He paused for a moment, then stood up from the bed and walked out.

He heard sounds coming from the kitchen and saw Fang Fengzhi preparing breakfast inside.

The Omega didn’t notice him. Fu Baiqi didn’t know what to say, so he took a few steps forward, making some noise. Fang Fengzhi, startled, trembled slightly, then turned around and looked at Fu Baiqi, lowering his head. “The breakfast will be ready soon…”

Fu Baiqi felt a mix of emotions. What happened last night was indeed his fault—he had probably been controlled by the alcohol. Seeing the Omega being so submissive, even fearful of him, made him feel uncomfortable.

“Last night… I was drunk…” He had never apologized to anyone from childhood to adulthood, and this time was no different. Begrudgingly offering an explanation for his behavior was the closest he would get to admitting fault.

Hearing this, Fang Fengzhi’s body stiffened for a moment before he turned to look at him again.

Normally distant and indifferent, rarely even looking at his wife, Fu Baiqi was now making an uncharacteristically awkward attempt to explain himself. This was the first time he had ever offered an explanation to him.

He sighed.

He remembered several years ago when Fu Baiqi had gone back to his grandmother’s house with his parents. The two elderly people were neighbors of his family and had called him over to play. When he walked in, the first thing he saw was Fu Baiqi sitting among a group of relatives. While everyone else seemed dull and lifeless, he alone sat there, cool and indifferent, standing out as vibrant and alive.

He only dared to glance once.

But even now, he can’t forget it.
