BMHS Chapter 067.2

Yan Yu’s brow furrowed slightly. No matter how much he speculated, he would never have guessed that Yan Sui had gone to such lengths to find him because of such words and such things. He was somewhat reluctant to believe it, but when he turned his head and met He Yue’s gaze, he knew it was true.

“What are you going to do about He Wan?” Yan Yu turned around and spoke, but the meaning of this statement was that he and He Yue were willing to come back. Even if it was just for He Yue’s legs, he would not refuse Yan Sui’s condition. Now, they came back not because of a condition, but an effort to save his life.

He himself is not afraid of death, but if he dies, He Yue wouldn’t want to live either. Yan Yu doesn’t need to ask He Yue to know this.

“She can’t stay in the Yan family, nor in Haicheng, but someone will come to take her away.”

“Who?” Yan Yu asked. His expression was quite stiff when mentioning He Wan, not hiding his extreme disgust towards her at all.

“It could be Xiao Zi, or it could be someone else.”

Yan Sui endured the insults directed at him and Meng Ting, not because he didn’t care, but because he was waiting. He wanted to uncover all the possible hidden schemes and deal with them in one fell swoop.

Yan Sui didn’t pause and continued, “It’s true that Xiao Zi is behind He Wan, but whether there’s someone else behind him remains uncertain for the time being.”

If it were the eldest son of the Xiao family, Xiao Huimin, Yan Yu would still recognize him, but he didn’t have much impression of Xiao Zi. After thinking for a long time, he frowned and said, “Isn’t he the kid that Man Man was chasing around?”

“Yes,” Yan Sui nodded, no longer planning to ask Yan Yu how he formed a grudge with Xiao Zi.

Yan Yu’s personality is completely different from Yan Sui’s, but he does have a bit of the carefree nature of Yan Sui’s late grandfather. Such a person can make some people love him to death, and can also make other people hate him to death. Yan Yu is even worse than that.

But Yan Sui’s expression paused for a moment, and his eyes immediately darkened. He had never considered the possibility that his grandfather might have had any sworn enemies.

“What is it?” Yan Yu asked Yan Sui, feeling inexplicably cautious. His demeanor was eerily similar to when his mother was plotting something, instinctively making people uneasy. Yan Yu wasn’t to that extent, but he couldn’t help but voice his confusion.

“Nothing…” However, Yan Sui didn’t intend to tell him. He turned his head to look at Meng Ting, who was trying to stay alert. He had spent the whole day in the lab and then followed him to Nanshan to intercept people. Even if he wanted to hide it, waves of drowsiness kept washing over him.

“I’ll have a car come pick you up tomorrow. We’ll talk more then.”

Yan Yu was quite impatient with Yan Sui’s habit of leaving half his sentences unfinished, but before he could speak, He Yue tugged at his hand, so Yan Yu had no choice but to close his mouth.

He Yue nodded at Yan Sui, “Alright, be careful on the way.”

Yan Sui stood up, and Meng Ting also stood up. Although he was sleepy, he wasn’t completely out of it. He looked at Yan Yu and He Yue, and said very earnestly, “Good night, Dad Yan, Dad He.”

***

Yan Sui led Meng Ting away, and after the door closed, neither Yan Yu nor He Yue spoke for a while. They both needed some time to sort out their thoughts.

After a while, He Yue tugged at Yan Yu’s hand again, “Let’s sleep, I’m tired. We’ll think about it tomorrow.”

Yan Yu’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, but upon hearing He Yue’s words, he could only comply. He lifted He Yue off the sofa and then said in a more solemn tone, “You will definitely be able to stand up again.”

He Yuen didn’t respond; he just reached out and wrapped his arms around Yan Yu’s neck, as if letting out a sigh of relief or perhaps just sighing.

Before the accident, He Yue had always been in excellent physical condition. He loved to chase cats, tease dogs[mfn]抓貓逗狗 (zhuā māo dòu gǒu): lit. catching cats and teasing dogs. From the common saying 撩雞逗狗 (liāo jī dòu gǒu), lit. lifting chickens and teasing dogs; or 撩貓逗狗 (liāo māo dòu gǒu), lit. lifting cats and teasing dogs. It means that one is always idle and looking for things to do, not doing serious work, and loves to stir up trouble.[/mfn], climb trees, and catch fish. He had always been active since childhood. He and Yan Yu had met during a summer hiking trip in the highlands during their first year of college. The two of them had run so fast that they almost lost contact with the main group.

He Yue had once said that his greatest wish was to climb all the mountains in the world and watch every sunset and sunrise. Yan Yu had also promised him that wherever he went, he would accompany him.

But at just twenty-three years old, He Yue had lost the use of his healthy legs. Forget about hiking or climbing mountains, from then on, he couldn’t even take a single step.

The current He Yue is very calm, but he wasn’t like that back then. In the first few years, he had tormented both Yan Yu and himself. He had even attempted suicide, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to go through with it. Yan Yu had almost lost him once; he couldn’t let him go through that kind of pain again.

He started reading books, started gardening, started doing everything that could bring him peace of mind, but depression still tormented him, tormenting Yan Yu for over ten years. They traveled from place to place, seeking renowned doctors, each time filled with hope, only to be disappointed again and again.

This time, he didn’t know if it was the beginning of another disappointment.

“Don’t be afraid. Even if it can’t be cured, we’ll just continue as we are now. I don’t want to die anymore.”

As Yan Yu placed He Yue on the bed, He Yue whispered these words in his ear.

Living is not easy; he should cherish Yan Yu well. Yan Yu didn’t care much about Yan Sui’s words, but He Yue obviously did. He couldn’t bear to part with him, and he had never been able to.

“Mm,” Yan Yu responded, but his heart was far from as calm as he appeared. He sat on the edge of the bed, waiting until He Yue fell asleep before heading out to the balcony. No one knew what he was thinking, but he smoked one cigarette after another until the sky began to lighten. Only then did he finally go to the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth.

Afterward, he came out to pack up some things for himself and He Yue. The car Yan Sui had sent was already waiting downstairs by around five o’clock.

***

He Yue woke up early. While Yan Yu was packing, he also got up. Watching Yan Yu’s practiced movements, he seemed lost in thought, his mind wandering.

Yan Yu raised his eyes and looked over. He Yue suddenly smiled and said, “Come here.”

Yan Yu didn’t understand why, but he had always listened to He Yue’s words. He walked over and was then pulled down by He Yue.

He Yue kissed Yan Yu on the lips, then frowned slightly, “Smoking again?”

“Mm,” Yan Yu responded after a long while. He even purposely brushed his teeth.

He Yue continued to frown, but Yan Yu draped a coat over him, picked him up, and carried him to the bathroom. After they finished washing up, he followed Yan Sui’s instructions and had Zhao Bing come up and help with the luggage and wheelchair. Yan Yu continued to carry He Yue downstairs.

They set off early and arrived at the Yan residence just before seven-thirty. The car didn’t stop at the main entrance but drove all the way to the front door of the living room.

Yan Sui hadn’t informed anyone about Yan Yu and He Yue’s return, not even Nanny Wang and Uncle Xiao. When they saw Yan Yu carrying He Yue out of the car, both of them were instantly in tears, their mouths opening and closing, but they couldn’t say a word.

Yan Manjia and Zhen Han came down from the upper floor. Zhen Han was fine; he knew more than Yan Manjia, so he was relatively calm.

Yan Manjia, however, was completely overwhelmed. Her legs gave way, and she sat on the stairs, sobbing uncontrollably.

Yan Yu stopped in his tracks while holding He Yue, looked at Yan Manjia for a while, and then continued to carry him inside. Yan Sui and Meng Ting also stood up from the sofa. Yan Sui walked over and led Yan Yu to a room by the side of the stairs on the first floor.

This room had been specially prepared the night before by Nanny Wang and the others. It was spacious and bright, and most importantly, it was on the first floor, making it convenient for He Yue to move around in a wheelchair. As for Yan Yu’s original room, he probably wouldn’t want to stay there anymore.

Meng Ting didn’t follow Yan Sui. Instead, he went upstairs to comfort Yan Manjia.

“It’s a good thing that the two dads are back. Auntie, don’t cry.”

Seeing that Yan Manjia was still crying, Meng Ting bent down and gently rubbed her hair. He couldn’t fully understand Yan Manjia’s emotions, but he could see that she was genuinely overwhelmed with joy and sorrow to the point of tears.

Yan Manjia nodded. She didn’t cry on the stairs; she went back to her room to continue crying, probably wouldn’t come down for a long time.

“Don’t worry, she’ll be fine after a good cry,” Zhen Han wasn’t really worried about Yan Manjia; she had just been holding everything in for so many years, and now that she was letting them out, it was for the best.

Meng Ting nodded, and then he also went downstairs. Nanny Wang and Uncle Xiao had already composed themselves and started making arrangements. Many of the household staff had been dismissed recently, and those who remained were loyal and reliable, needing only a few instructions to get things in order.

Yan Yu and He Yue hadn’t eaten breakfast, so after they finished their meal, Yan Yu and Yan Sui went to the study. He Yue stayed in the living room with Meng Ting to watch TV. Zhen Han’s clinic had opened yesterday, and with a full schedule of appointments today, he couldn’t stay either. After breakfast, he left as well.

“Your name is Meng Ting, right?”

“Mm,” Meng Ting nodded, responding as he pushed the fruit and snacks closer to He Yue.

“Don’t worry, now that you and Dad are back home, Yan Sui and I will protect you.”

He Wan is already not allowed to enter the Yan residence. Even if she did manage to break in, he and Yan Sui would be there to stop her. There is no way they would let her harm He Yue again.

Hearing this, a faint smile appeared on He Yue’s face. He didn’t have much of a feeling towards Yan Sui yet, as he and Yan Yu often subconsciously avoided topics related to Yan Sui. However, he genuinely liked Meng Ting.

“Thank you.”

Meng Ting nodded gently, then glanced up at the staircase. “They’ll probably be talking for a while. If you’re bored, I can take you for a walk. There’s a lawn in the front and a garden in the back, and you can see your room from there.”

He Yue hesitated for a moment, then nodded, “Sorry to trouble you.”

“No trouble at all. I take Dahuang and Maoqiu for a walk every day.”

Meng Ting pointed to the cat and dog in his arms and at his feet. Dahuang had been somewhat wary of Yan Yu for a while earlier, but showed no reaction to He Yue. As for Maoqiu, as long as Meng Ting was around, it didn’t seem to notice anyone else.

Meng Ting set Maoqiu down and stood up to push He Yue’s wheelchair. Maoqiu followed, jumping to Meng Ting’s feet and meowing. He Yue looked at Meng Ting. “Can I hold it?”

Meng Ting nodded, bent down to pick up Maoqiu, and placed it on He Yue’s lap. Then he slowly pushed He Yue outside, with the previously lazy Dahuang following behind.

Yan Sui and Yan Yu, who were sitting on the sofa by the second-floor window talking, both turned their heads almost simultaneously.

Yan Sui looked at Meng Ting, while Yan Yu looked at He Yue. The two men who had been looking at each other coldly suddenly softened their expressions.

Yan Yu looked at Yan Sui again and said, “Let’s do it your way.”

Yan Sui nodded, stood up, tidied his briefcase, and left the study. He got into the car and headed to the company.

***

At ten in the morning, the Yan Corporation held a press conference, inviting major media outlets and even broadcasting it live online.

“Today, I mainly want to inform all the media and the online community of two things. First, Yan Sui of the Yan Corporation has severed ties with He Wan as mother and son. Second, my wife, Meng Ting, has severed all ties with the Meng family.”

From the moment Yan Sui entered the small auditorium to when he sat down and delivered these statements, less than three minutes had passed. Yet his words stunned both the audience and the online viewers. There are people whose presence is so commanding that even the nearly boiling media quieted down under Yan Sui’s slightly furrowed brow.

Yan Sui lowered his gaze, and a legally binding agreement appeared on the large screen behind him. “This is the agreement He Wan signed before marrying into the Yan family. If she violates it, it is equivalent to her voluntarily relinquishing all ties with the Yan family, which naturally includes her relationship with me as mother and son.”

The terms of the agreement were simple: she could not transfer her shares in the Yan Corporation to anyone other than Yan Sui; she could not publicly promote her relationship with Yan Yu or Yan Sui in any way; and she could not coerce Yan Sui into anything by any means.

Except for the last point, which backfired and turned into Yan Sui’s voluntary action, He Wan had violated all the others.

This agreement was personally drafted by Yan Sui’s grandmother, Xu Shuyin, witnessed by lawyers and the elders of the Yan clan, and signed by He Wan herself. The seal was even notarized at the public notary office, so there was no way it could be fake when Yan Sui presented it.

But He Wan must have been terrified. After the two elders of the Yan family passed away, she had torn up a certificate identical to this one. However, since Yan Sui’s version was genuine, the one she had tore up back then must have been a fake.

What made her both hate and fear was that before Yan Sui revealed this agreement, he had not shown the slightest hint that he knew about it. He had been waiting all along for her to break it, so he could completely expel her from the Yan family.

Yan Sui had never, not even for a moment, considered her as a mother. Never, not even once. Yan Sui’s coldness and rationality to this extent was absolutely beyond many people’s expectations.

After waiting for the media personnel below to finish reading, Yan Sui switched the screen again, this time displaying a paternity test certificate. “Meng Ting has no blood relation to Meng Yide of the Meng family or Yu Meixuan, Meng Yide’s former lover. He was abducted at a young age and sold to this illegal orphanage.”

Following that were several documents from Meng Ting’s early years, such as the primary hospital, and so on. “Yu Meixuan’s mother, Wu Fengjiao, is involved in child abuse. The XX Orphanage is involved in child trafficking, and the XX closed high school is involved in the misuse of psychiatric drugs and excessive corporal punishment of students. Relevant evidence will be sent to judicial authorities to initiate lawsuits and public prosecutions.”

“Li Yifei of the Meng family forged paternity test results, instigated Wu Fengjiao to abuse the child, and is suspected of intentional harm. We, the Yan family, will sue on behalf of Meng Ting.”

“There’s more…” Yan Sui’s words suddenly paused, and the the media personnel below couldn’t help but widen their eyes. What kind of earth-shattering revelation was he about to make?

“Meng Ting and I fell in love, which is why we entered into marriage and will spend our lives together. This has nothing to do with whether he is an illegitimate child or a scion of a prominent family. From now on, anyone who maliciously slanders us will be sued by the Yan family for defamation.”
