BMHS Chapter 068.2

“Man Man, come here. I have something to ask you,” Yan Yu said, pushing He Yue toward the sofa and then addressing Yan Manjia, who was heading toward the art studio.

Yan Manjia immediately turned around and obediently walked over. She sat down, her hands and feet placed very properly. Yan Yu’s tone clearly indicated that he was about to reprimand her for something. Yan Manjia felt a bit unlucky, as it seemed there were more and more people in the family who could discipline her.

“What’s going on between you and Xiao Zi?”

Yan Yu hadn’t had the energy to pay much attention to other people’s affairs over the years. He thought that with the two elders around, Yan Manjia wouldn’t suffer even if she acted recklessly.

But now, not only had she given birth to a child, but the person Yan Manjia liked, Xiao Zi, had also gotten involved with He Wan. Yan Yu didn’t believe for a second that their relationship was purely cooperative relationship.

“I dumped him,” Yan Manjia said with certainty. Her gaze shifted to He Yue, and then, without warning, she knelt down with a ‘thud’.

“Brother, sister-in-law, it’s my fault for not seeing clearly, it’s my mistake for misjudging people. I have no idea how they got together. If I had known, I definitely wouldn’t have waited until now to kick him out.” Yan Manjia still looked disgusted when she talked about Xiao Zi. No matter how much she loved Xiao Zi, it was never to the extent of harming her brother and sister-in-law to gain his love.

“I was wrong, I’m sorry to you all.” Yan Manjia said, still trying to kowtow, but was lifted up by Yan Yu.

“Why are you kneeling…” Yan Yu’s eyes widened, and Yan Manjia was visibly startled again, her eyes suddenly welling up with tears. She stumbled and then threw herself into Yan Yu’s arms, crying out once more, “Brother, brother, I was wrong, I was wrong. It’s so good to have you back.”

“I’ll be good from now on and definitely won’t cause you any trouble.”

Yan Manjia’s fierceness had never been directed at her own family. Her eyes were red and swollen, making her look quite pitiful. Not only had Yan Yu and He Yue never blamed her, but even if they had, they couldn’t bring themselves to say anything harsh at this moment.

“Why are you crying? That guy wronged you, and I won’t let him off the hook,” Yan Yu said, especially since he had also played a part in that incident back then.

“Thank you, brother. I’m not satisfied either!” After being comforted, Yan Manjia’s true nature emerged again.

However, she ultimately felt too embarrassed to linger in Yan Yu’s embrace for too long. She wiped her eyes and returned to her seat, continuing to sniffle.

Yan Yu muttered with slight irritation, “Why are you still such a crybaby? You’re not a child anymore.”

However, Yan Manjia’s personality had always been this way, and it seemed she would never change—a true emotional soul.

He Yue had remained silent the whole time, but just as he was about to look up, a cat appeared in front of him. He glanced up slightly and saw that it was Meng Ting who had handed it to him.

Meng Ting continued to place Maoqiu on He Yue’s lap. “Maoqiu likes you too.”

He Yue took it, and Meng Ting turned around and took Dahuang back upstairs.

He Yue stroked Maoqiu’s back and couldn’t help but smile. Both Yan Yu and Yan Manjia looked over, and after a moment of thought, He Yue said, “Ting Ting is very thoughtful.”

Even Yan Yu hadn’t noticed the momentary fluctuation in He Yue’s emotions, but Meng Ting had sensed it. Without saying anything, he had simply brought Maoqiu to keep him company.

Yan Manjia nodded in agreement. “Our baby Ting Ting is really so well-behaved and thoughtful. Not just Yan Sui, even I love him to death.”

Once she started talking about Meng Ting, Yan Manjia couldn’t stop. She chattered on about all sorts of amusing and heartwarming stories, even mentioning the mix-up when Meng Ting had dressed in women’s clothing and ended up in the newspaper, laughing without a care.

It was clear that Yan Manjia and Yan Yu had a very close relationship. Even after so many years apart, the bond of blood between them remained unchanged. But between him and He Wan… it was different. They seemed like natural enemies, unfortunate enough to have been born from the same womb.

After Yan Manjia had talked enough, she went to the art studio. After all, she was still afraid of being a nuisance.

Yan Yu took He Yue out for a stroll, and then pushed him back to his room for a nap.

***

Meng Ting didn’t sleep when he went upstairs either. He took out the test papers that Uncle Xiao had someone fetch from his school a few days ago and started working on them. Once he started going to the lab the day after tomorrow, he probably wouldn’t have the time or energy to focus on the papers anymore. But with the mid-term exam at school at the end of this month, he needed to do well to continue spending time in the lab, doing what he loved.

He lit a fire online and then forgot about the matter, but the uproar on the Internet still shows no sign of dying down.

He Wan was bound to face criticism, and then there were anonymous posts exposing how Li Yifei had climbed the social ladder, revealing many of her deliberately hidden past incidents. However, Meng Ting didn’t pay much attention to these, and even if he had, he probably wouldn’t have felt much about it.

Yan Sui and the law would deal with them appropriately. All he needed to do was love Yan Sui well and continue doing what he enjoyed.

Around five in the afternoon, Meng Ting finally finished his test papers. After greeting He Yue and Yan Yu downstairs, he went to the front to pick up Yan Sui.

As soon as Yan Sui stepped out of the car, Meng Ting hugged him tightly. “You said I looked good. I saw it.”

Yan Sui embraced Meng Ting in return, gently kissing his cheek before taking his hand and leading him inside. Only then did he respond to Meng Ting’s words, “I also saw the photos of Maoqiu and Dahuang…”

Along with a bunch of comments praising Meng Ting’s beautiful legs, but they could only admire his legs, while he could possess the whole person, body and soul. Thinking this way, the slight discomfort he felt vanished.

Meng Ting was being led along, but he barely looked at the path, his gaze fixed on Yan Sui. When he wasn’t in the lab, he would always think of Yan Sui. After a moment of thought, he said, “I missed you a lot today.” Even while doing his papers, he would still be distracted and think of Yan Sui.

Hearing this, Yan Sui stopped, looked at Meng Ting, and reached out to ruffle his hair. Seeing that Meng Ting was still looking at him, he pulled the person closer, kissed his lips, and then continued to lead him inside.

Meng Ting’s face flushed slightly. He was just looking at Yan Sui because he wanted to see him, but Yan Sui seemed to have misunderstood something.

Yan Sui took Meng Ting directly to the study, and before long, Yan Yu also came up carrying He Yue.

As Yan Yu and He Yue sat down, Yan Sui spoke, “My people have been keeping an eye on He Wan. Whoever she contacts or communicates with, I will know. She won’t get a single thing that doesn’t belong to her.”

He Wan had broken the agreement, which meant she automatically forfeited her shares in the Yan Corporation. No matter what promises she had made to others with those shares, she would have to return them. Otherwise, she will face imprisonment.

Yan Yu had just sat down and hadn’t spoken yet, but Yan Sui already knew what he was going to ask. In terms of ruthlessness, Yan Sui was second to none, but above his ruthlessness was his principle of handling affairs and his integrity.

“That agreement…” Yan Sui hadn’t informed him about that agreement in advance; he also learned about it from the live TV broadcast.

“It was Grandma’s request,” Yan Sui said, continuing to massage Meng Ting’s hand. Meng Ting had been holding a pen all afternoon, and there were noticeable marks on his fingers.

“She could marry into the family, but she couldn’t present herself as your wife to the outside world,” Xu Shuyin knew her son well. Even though they thought he was dead at the time, for Yan Sui’s sake, they allow her to enter the family, they wouldn’t permit her to publicly claim to be Yan Yu’s wife to the outside world.

Although she was given shares in the Yan Corporation, she and Yan Yu didn’t have a legally binding marriage certificate. With this agreement in place, even when Old Master Yan and Xu Shuyin were alive, He Wan, despite living in relatively good conditions, still felt psychologically oppressed and resentful.

After Old Master Yan and Xu Shuyin died in a car accident, he and Zhen Han were swamped with work. He Wan managed to sneak into the old house, found the certificate, and then tore it up. But she didn’t know that Xu Shuyin had long been guarding against her. The real certificate had been in Yan Sui’s hands since he turned eighteen.

With the two elders gone and the agreement that could restrain her no longer in effect, He Wan became increasingly bold in the following years, even trying to meddle in Yan Sui’s marriage. But in reality, the agreement had always been there; she just thought it wasn’t.

“They knew you wouldn’t like it, so this agreement was left as a way out for both of us.” Yan Sui wasn’t sure under what chaotic circumstances Xu Shuyin had agreed back then, but both families had suffered the pain of losing their sons, and one of the culprits was now holding their grandson hostage.

Xu Shuyin had agreed, but she also set rules for He Wan. If He Wan could behave herself, she would still be allowed to live in the Yan family as Yan Sui’s mother. But if she continued to cause trouble, she would get nothing.

Hearing this, Yan Yu felt a heaviness in his chest, unsure whether it was sadness or something else.

He had faked his death and gone abroad. Before he could find He Yue, he first learned that Xu Shuyin had allowed He Wan to enter the Yan family with her son. At that time, he was so furious that he completely severed all ties with the Yan family, and even after finding He Yue, he remained the same.

But when Old Master Yan and Xu Shuyin passed away, he still felt sorrow. Perhaps from Xu Shuyin’s perspective, she had already done her best. After all, Yan Sui was indeed a child of the Yan family; innocent in all this. He could abandon him, but they couldn’t.

Or perhaps Xu Shuyi had planned to drive He Wan out of the Yan family after Yan Sui came of age. She just hadn’t had the chance to carry it out before the car accident happened. However, Yan Sui, whom she had raised, understood her intentions, and now it can be considered that he has helped her fulfill her wish.

Yan Sui wasn’t sure if Yan Yu could understand the meaning behind his words, but he didn’t say anything more. He placed his and Meng Ting’s interlocked hands on his thigh and looked at Yan Yu. “Now, we wait.”

Wait for the cornered dog to jump over the wall, wait for the exploding He Wan to force everyone out.

***

He Wan was indeed stunned. Meng Ting had found a video online and watched it several times, while He Wan had watched it dozens of times, seeing how the son who came out of her womb had meticulously planned her downfall, leaving her with no way out.

“Alright, alright, I, He Wan, have given birth to a good son… Hahaha!”

He Wan suddenly burst into maniacal laughter, startling the nanny who was cooking for her in the kitchen. If it weren’t for the high salary He Wan paid, the nanny would have quit long ago. Sometimes, when she came out at night for a drink of water and saw He Wan sitting stiffly in the living room, it would give her a fright.

While He Wan was acting like a madwoman, Li Yifei in the Meng family was so furious that she nearly fainted.

But she didn’t faint. First, Old Master Meng scolded her, then Meng Yigui and Meng Yide, who had rushed home, also gave her an earful. On top of that, she had to worry about whether someone might come to take her to the police station, given the swift actions of the Yan family.

“But… how could this be?” She thought she had covered everything up, so how had Yan Sui dug it all out? But what scared her even more was the possibility that Yan Sui might continue to uncover Meng Ting’s true origins, which would also lead to her downfall.

“Not possible, not possible!”

“Mom, what do you mean ‘not possible’?” Han Xuejun, seeing Li Yifei so frightened that she was starting to mutter in her sleep, also felt a headache coming on. From her perspective, she couldn’t understand Li Yifei’s actions either. What kind of mother would rush to saddle her own son with an illegitimate child, even going so far as to forge documents?

Li Yifei suddenly sat up and looked at Han Xuejun, her face extremely grim. “Just say that all of this was done by you, and it has nothing to do with me.”

Han Xuejun paused, almost bursting into laughter. She stood up angrily. “I call you ‘Mom’ out of respect. If I didn’t respect you, who do you think you are?”

To put it nicely, she was the matriarch of the second house of the Meng family, but to put it bluntly, she was nothing more than a mistress. Yet, she still wanted to make her take the fall.

Li Yifei’s expression grew even more unpleasant, but her gaze remained fixed on Han Xuejun.

Han Xuejun raised her eyebrows slightly, not bothering to hide her disgust as she took two steps back. “I may have kept a man outside, but hasn’t your son kept plenty of women? If it weren’t for Meng Jiang and Meng Bo, I would have kicked him to the curb long ago. Trying to threaten me with this? Hah…”

Over the years, Li Yifei, as the second madam of the Meng family, had become increasingly arrogant and overbearing. She was not one of the illegitimate children that Li Yifei could manipulate at will. With the Han family backing her, although she may not be particularly favored, she certainly would not be reduced to the point of being bullied and neglected.

“You can rest assured and go to prison. Yide might even become a bit clear-headed without you.”

Han Xuejun no longer felt the need to play the role of a filial daughter-in-law at Li Yifei’s side anymore. She chuckled coldly a couple of times, then left Li Yifei’s room directly. After greeting Uncle Wen, she departed from the old house.

However, Han Xuejun couldn’t help but feel a bit of lingering fear. Fortunately, she hadn’t gotten involved in Meng Ting’s affairs. Otherwise, given how much Yan Sui doted on him, she and the Han family behind her might have been implicated.

Li Yifei was originally just pretending to be sick, but Han Xuejun’s words really made her sick.

***

While the second house was in a miserable state, the main house was overjoyed. If possible, Feng Zejiao would have even set off firecrackers to celebrate.

“My dear grandson, it’s all thanks to you telling me back then to cut off contact with He Wan. Otherwise… it might have been our main house that ended up in trouble today.”

While gloating, Feng Zejiao also felt a sense of relief. After all, it was she who had initially arranged the marriage between Meng Ting and Yan Sui with He Wan. But later, when Li Yifei ingratiated herself with He Wan, even when she tried to get involved again, He Wan no longer paid her any attention. At that time, it was Meng Qi who advised her not to waste any more effort.

He Wan was first expelled from the He family, and now she had been driven out of the Yan family as well. Along with that, all the things Li Yifei had done to Meng Ting were brought to light. Feng Zejiao felt that Li Yifei had been completely dragged down by He Wan.

Meng Qi gave Feng Zejiao a helpless look but didn’t try to suppress her excitement. Li Yifei had been the key figure in keeping the second house dominant over the main house. With her downfall, half of the second house’s defenses had crumbled. For the main house and Feng Zejiao, this was indeed a cause for celebration.

However, Meng Qi didn’t believe that Li Yifei had merely been dragged down by He Wan. He thought that Yan Sui had deliberately allowed He Wan to publicly accuse Meng Ting on television and let the online slander continue, just waiting for Li Yifei to jump in herself. He was waiting for the perfect opportunity to completely separate Meng Ting from the Meng family.

“We can’t call him Little Seventh anymore from now on.”

Meng Qi stroked his chin, feeling a hint of regret. He had genuinely liked having a brother like Meng Ting—someone who was both pleasing to the eye and interesting.

However, he finally understood why Li Yifei had been so ruthless towards Meng Ting. When it comes to children who aren’t her own, she has absolutely no limits when it came to being ruthless.

This night, it’s likely that very few of the people involved could sleep soundly. The Yan family, who brought them such great pressure, still maintained their usual routine.

After eight o’clock, everyone went about their own business. Yan Sui spent some time with Meng Ting in the study before returning to their room.

Yan Manjia stayed in the art studio for a while. When she came out and saw her brother kissing He Yue, she paused for a moment, then floated back upstairs.

Originally, there was already this couple, Yan Sui and Meng Ting, who shamelessly flaunted their affection without restraint at home. Now another couple has arrived. Who will come to save her lonely and cold heart?

Yan Manjia really wanted to go find Zhen Han to cry, but Zhen Han was not interested in any of it. With just a few glances, Yan Manjia didn’t say a word and obediently floated back to her own room.

Idgaf if He Yue and Yan Yu are a tragic couple; their selfishness disgusts me. Yan Yu hasn’t fulfilled any of his obligations as a father, son or brother. What qualifications does he have to judge his sister when he is love brained himself? What qualifications does he have to resent Yan Sui? Enjoying the wealth of Yan family whilst resenting his parents, what qualifications? The easy reconciliation disgusts me.
