DL Chapter35

Emotion

Fu Baiqi opened the door to the house, and it was dark inside. His expression was similar to when he was at the company—cold and indifferent, perhaps even a little worse now.

He was feeling a little hungry. Fang Fengzhi usually got home earlier than him, and at this time, there would usually be food ready. But now, he was the only one in the house.

He pulled out a chair and sat down, feeling somewhat tired as he leaned back. He casually scrolled through his phone, eventually landing on the chat with Fang Fengzhi. The last message was over a month ago, and since then, he hadn’t received any messages from the Omega.

He scrolled aimlessly, but there wasn’t much to see, just three or four chat messages. Every time Fang Fengzhi messaged him, he would delete them without even reading. Maybe because he was so bored, now looking at these few lines, they felt surprisingly insufficient.

So he exited the app and ordered some takeout. After placing the order, he didn’t know what to do with his phone. Bored, he stared at it for a while, then tapped back to the previous screen. His fingers, out of sheer boredom, even typed a few words.

But Fu Baiqi didn’t send it.

Fu Baiqi wasn’t sure if Fang Fengzhi was just sulking, but since the last time they talked about divorce, Fang Fengzhi had stopped contacting him. Whether someone had said something to him or not, Fu Baiqi didn’t have the energy, nor did he want to explain or comfort him.

It’s probably better if they each cool off for a while.

But then he suddenly felt that maybe Fang Fengzhi wasn’t that bad, at least he didn’t make him feel irritated. He just didn’t understand why Fang Fengzhi hadn’t returned for so long, whether he was staying at a friend’s place or had gone back to his hometown. Fu Baiqi also knew where he worked, but the thought of going to his workplace to look for him was something he just couldn’t bring himself to do.

The mark he left last time had probably faded by now. An Omega who is married but still unmarked, staying alone outside, might run into some trouble. For some reason, Fu Baiqi felt a sense of unease.

A rare impulse stirred within him. He opened his phone, just about to make the call, when the doorbell rang.

He opened the door and saw the delivery he had ordered. Taking the items from the delivery person, he muttered, “Thank you.”

After being interrupted like this, his mind began to calm down again. He stood motionless at the door for a while, staring at the phone screen, not pressing it to turn on.

A few seconds later, he put his phone in his pocket. Just then, the woman from next door returned from work and saw Fu Baiqi standing at the door. She greeted him with a smile, “Mr. Fu, having takeout today?”

“En.” Fu Baiqi nodded politely to her, then closed the door.

The takeaway looked like a single serving. Could it be that he’s eating alone? Xu Meng thought to herself, glancing at her phone before walking ahead, but it seemed like she hadn’t seen Fang Fengzhi in a while already.

The elevator behind her dinged, and Xu Meng suddenly froze.

She was struck by a sudden memory of the tall man she had encountered at the elevator entrance that day, along with the Omega he was holding in his arms.

The next day, when Fu Baiqi went to work, the dark circles under his eyes were heavy. He had already drunk one cup of coffee that his assistant made for him, but he still felt sluggish. As he reached for another cup, he happened to pass by Min Zhi, who was talking to the director. As Min Zhi walked by, the scent that mixed with Omega’s pheromones hit Fu Baiqi, making him shiver. It felt as though his entire body relaxed for a moment.

He paused for a second but quickly continued walking past them as if nothing had happened.

The scent on Min Zhi had faded a lot, but inside, Fu Baiqi still felt a vague sense of unease. He wasn’t sure if it was because the smell reminded him too much of Fang Fengzhi’s pheromones, but it gave him a lingering feeling of betrayal, as though his wife were cheating on him.

He kept a stern face, trying to push the strange thoughts out of his mind.

Min Zhi caught a glimpse of Fu Baiqi in his peripheral vision but didn’t look up. He gave a few instructions to Director Zhang and then headed back to the office. After lunch, Min Zhi originally planned to discuss some of the planning matters with Director Zhang, but he realized that Director Zhang wasn’t in the office. Director Zhang rarely went home; he usually had lunch in the company cafeteria and would take a nap in the break area before returning to work.

Min Zhi casually asked an intern who was nearby, “Where did Director Zhang go?”

“Oh, it seems like his wife came to find him. They went to have lunch together and haven’t returned yet.”

“His wife?”

“Aren’t they getting a divorce?” Min Zhi asked.

The intern seemed surprised that Min Zhi knew about it. “Ah… they made up last month…”

The intern froze for a moment, clearly caught off guard by the question. “Uh, yes, I think that was the rumor… but I don’t know the details. It might not even be true.”

The intern continued speaking, unaware of the underlying tension in the conversation. “I don’t know much more than that, but that’s what I heard. They had a talk, and after that, things seemed to get better. I guess they patched things up.”

Seeing that Min Zhi was listening attentively, the intern was encouraged and kept talking without thinking. “This is actually normal. Being with a lover is just for the sake of novelty. How can it compare to the love between husband and wife for so many years?”

Not sure why, but seeing Min Zhi slightly furrow his brows, his expression seemed a bit somber, yet it also seemed the same as before. Even the intern, as naive as he was, didn’t dare say anything more and quickly stopped talking.

Min Zhi glanced at him, his eyes calm, and it was unclear whether the emotion was good or bad. He didn’t say anything else and returned to his office with the documents.

He threw the documents casually, and they made a dull sound on the table. With a blank expression, he took a cigarette from his pocket, placed it in his mouth, and lit it. In less than five seconds, the sharpness of his movements seemed to stir the air around him.

He took a slow drag, and only then did his entire body seem to calm down.

Today, he came home later than usual. The lights in the villa were already off. When he got home, he instinctively glanced at the sofa. Normally, Fang Fengzhi liked to sit there and use his laptop. When he returned, he would occasionally catch Fang Fengzhi’s gaze, but they would quickly look away, exchanging a few polite words before he went upstairs, never coming back down afterward.

He came home too late today, and Fang Fengzhi was no longer there. Min Zhi stared at the sofa for a while before slowly walking over and sitting in the spot where Fang Fengzhi usually sat. There was no distinct difference in feeling, but there was a faint scent of chamomile lingering in the air.

Min Zhi kept his eyes lowered for a while, not making any movements.

Suddenly, his phone vibrated. He unlocked it and stood up, about to head upstairs, when he heard the sound of a door opening from upstairs. Someone was walking out of a room, their steps heavy.

Min Zhi remained still, and soon, a blurry figure appeared at the staircase.

The only light in the villa was at the entrance, so the rest of the house was dim. As Fang Fengzhi descended a few steps down the stairs, he suddenly noticed someone standing below. He was startled, and the familiar scent immediately invaded his nostrils.

Fang Fengzhi paused for a second, then turned and ran toward his room.

Behind him, there was a loud, sudden noise, as if something terrifying had happened. Fang Fengzhi broke out in a cold sweat, his mind focused solely on reaching his room and locking the door as quickly as possible.

But before he could even reach the bottom of the stairs, a powerful force grabbed him, slamming him into a firm body. After a moment of chaos, Fang Fengzhi realized he was pinned against the wall, trapped by the man’s arms. The man’s voice, cold and low, came through, “Why are you running?”

Fang Fengzhi’s heart skipped a beat. Generally speaking, at this time every night, he was very lacking in Min Zhi’s pheromones. His body felt hot and uncomfortable, and his lower body was extremely uncomfortable. He wanted to get some ice to cool down before Min Zhi came back, but he didn’t expect to see someone standing silently in front of him when he was halfway there.

Nothing good would happen if the two of them met at this time.

He held his breath, “I just want to go back to the room to get something.”

It was an unconvincing lie. Min Zhi stared at him with his eyes downcast, but Fang Fengzhi just looked aside.

Min Zhi felt an inexplicable emotion in his heart. It was not anger, nor was it boredom. It was just an indescribable discomfort.

There are very few things that make him feel bad. The last time was when he failed in his first business venture many years ago.

Then it is now.

He thought of what the intern said to him this afternoon. He probably felt uncomfortable from that time. He always despised people who did that kind of thing. Whether it was the person who cheated or the third party, their behavior made people feel uncomfortable.

But at that time he was wondering whether the lover had feelings for Director Zhang’s wife. If so, was he also someone worthy of sympathy?

Such thoughts made him feel ashamed, and his hypocritical sympathy was simply disgusting.

It was just an excuse for himself, a disgusting and selfish excuse.

Because Fang Fengzhi would eventually return to his husband, and he was just the person who helped him get through his estrus period. In the countless years that followed, such things would happen countless times between him and Fu Baiqi.

Min Zhi felt an unprecedented sadness.

“Mr. Min, I think I should go back.”

Min Zhi did not move. He did not intend to let the Omega leave just like that.

At this moment, he also noticed Fang Fengzhi’s abnormally hot body temperature and the strong chamomile smell emanating from him.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“What?” The Omega finally raised his head and met Min Zhi’s eyes, which suddenly became almost bottomless in the darkness.

“If you want pheromones, you should tell me directly.”

He said this in a high-sounding manner, as if the distant behavior a few days ago was not caused by him. Fang Fengzhi frowned, not understanding what Min Zhi meant.

But Min Zhi’s kiss left an imprint on his lips.

Fang Fengzhi’s eyes widened. This time he did not obey obediently but pushed Min Zhi away. Min Zhi was pushed back a little, but he did not use much strength. He was upset about his impulsive behavior, but at the same time, he wanted to hug the Omega tightly and kiss him.

The Omega almost didn’t have his smell anymore. He could feel that the Omega was about to leave him, just like last time. Maybe when he returned to the villa one day, the Omega would no longer be here anymore, and even the warm chamomile scent that could last the longest would be taken away, leaving nothing behind.

He will return to someone else.

Such a thought stimulated Min Zhi, and he forcefully pushed the Omega to the corner again. Fang Fengzhi put his hand between the two of them. He wanted to resist but met Min Zhi’s eyes.

It was that look again, restrained, sober, yet complicated and crazy.

He listened to the Enigma saying “sorry” while kissing his eyelids, cheeks, nose tip and lips.

People are always contradictory individuals, and he couldn’t figure out what Min Zhi was thinking.

He had no strength left in his body. The pheromones of the marked person made Fang Fengzhi feel happy all over. He sighed in his heart and finally grabbed the clothes on Min Zhi’s waist with his hands.
