Chapter 106.2

Zhen’er shuddered all over, startled by the man’s violent aura, and her arm that was pouring the wine froze.

The sound of gurgling wine came to an abrupt halt.

She quickly took out a handkerchief and hurriedly wiped the corners of Lu Yan’s clothes that were splashed with wine.

“My Lord.” Zhen’er raised her eyes and called out.

Lu Yan pushed her away, stood up, looked at Sui Yu and said word by word, “I’m leaving.”

“Lu Yan!” Chu Xun shouted.

Lu Yan didn’t even turn his head.

Sui Yu sat by the window, looking at Lu Yan’s desolate back, and said, “Sure enough, it’s just as you expected.”

Chu Xun lowered his head and took a sip of wine, then slowly said, “In the past two years, I have never heard him call This Young Lady Shen’s name, not even once. Even when I mentioned it on purpose, he showed a look of helplessness, and quickly changed the subject, so how could it possibly be the appearance of someone letting go.”

Sui Yu nodded and said, “He will definitely hold this grudge against us today.”

Chu Xun said: “Let him be, it’s better than keeping it in his heart.”

Lu Yan walked out of Pingkang lane and the heavy snow, like goose feathers, fell on his shoulders one by one.

Yang Zong placed an umbrella on his head, and Lu Yan bent down and got on the carriage.

The wheels turned slowly on the white snow.

Lu Yan suddenly shouted “Stop”.

The wheels suddenly stopped, making a squeaking sound as they crushed the snow.

After a long silence, Lu Yan exhaled with a trembling breath, “Let’s go to Chengyuan.”

Yang Zong blinked and said quickly, “Understood.” Indeed, Yang Zong hadn’t heard the three words “go to Chengyuan” for a long time.

Lu Yan walked in the cold moonlight and pushed open the gate of Chengyuan. Everything here was the same as before. No one knew that the lights in Lanyue Pavilion were lit like this every day.

Hearing the noise, Tang Yue and Mo Yue were stunned on the spot. The brooms in their hands fell to the ground with a “bang” and sank into the thick snow.

“Young Master?” Tang Yue whispered.

Lu Yan uttered a low “hmm”.

Mo Yue rubbed her hands and whispered, “Master, I will go prepare some water.”

Lu Yan waved his hand and said it was not necessary. Tang Yue and Mo Yue looked at each other, bowed and left together.

For two whole years, he had never set foot in this place. The reason was simple: every brick and tile here had her shadow.

Lu Yan walked into the inner room, his heart beating wildly, and layers of disappointment surged in his eyes.

A rosewood canopy bed[mfn][/mfn], a short couch lacquered in red[mfn][/mfn], a four-drawer iron pear cabinet[mfn][/mfn], a square table with a Kuilong pattern[mfn][/mfn] and two red lacquered wooden hollow out round stools[mfn][/mfn]…… In addition to these inanimate objects, there were also three or two camellias that she loved.

Due to his repeated instructions, the room remained unchanged.

But without that person, things were still different.

He walked to the center of the room, looked at the iron pear four-drawer cabinet, casually opened a drawer, and saw a painting.

He was stunned.

He slowly unfolded it and saw that the date noted in the lower right corner, and some memories buried deep in his heart came rolling in like a tide.

The seventeenth year of Yuanqing, twenty fifth of the tenth month.

This was his birthday.

That evening, the sunset was just right.

He came to Chengyuan alone, thinking that he could receive a birthday gift from her, anything, even a leaf would be fine, but he didn’t expect that she didn’t remember it at all. She was well-behaved and docile, and when she saw his dissatisfaction, she immediately pulled up his sleeve and said in a somewhat flattering tone: “Can I draw a picture for you?”

He nodded sternly.

He knew that Shen Zhen was an excellent painter, and the portraits she drew looked like real people. Seeing her seriously drawing, he, who was sitting opposite her, couldn’t help but look forward to what she would draw for him.

Who would have thought that this innocent and harmless girl actually had evil intentions.

She actually drew a portrait of him looking angry with furrowed brows, pursed lips… the displeasure in her eyes was clearly visible.

He laughed in anger, and pinched her waist and asked, “Shen Zhen, is this how I look in your eyes?”

The little girl turned around in his arms, hugged his waist with a sly look on her face, “My Lord, tell me something truthfully, does it look lifelike?”

The past was irretrievable but was deeply ingrained.

She spent more than three hundred long yet short days and nights to capture his heart, and then carved her name stroke by stroke.

it may well be asked, what can he do?

She left Chang’an and went with Marquis Changping to the northern Desert, where she described the sky as blue and the clouds were low. He always hated her determination in her heart. He would recall those words he said to her in the past.

“Shen Zhen, aren’t you unwilling?”

“Do you think I must have you?”

“Don’t you know how to change your picky eating habits?”

“Are you that reserved?”

“Well, last time it was your brother, this time it is your father. SHen Zhen, who do you think I am to you?”

“If you have nothing else to do in the future, don’t ask Tang Yue to pass on messages to me.”

“Marquis Changping, why do you keep seeing him?” He gritted his teeth in anger, “Don’t you know your own identity?”

Every time, she didn’t dare to talk back,  and every time he finished speaking, he regretted it.

But three years ago, he didn’t know that he would go crazy for her, didn’t dare to think about her, would become afraid of falling deeper and deeper and would become afraid that her warmth would remain in his memories…

Lu Yan raised his hand and gently stroked the camellia on the table, petal by petal. The man who was in charge of all the affairs in the court suddenly laughed at himself.

This camellia you left behind quietly bloomed in the second winter after you left. Shen Zhen, I, Lu Yan, admit that I really can’t bear to see you marry someone else.

He sat back on the couch, casually fiddled with the jade pillow, and then took out a letter, an unopened letter.

His pupils trembled, and he held the letter in his hand, wanting to open it, but then put it back.

Just those little thoughts of hers, what would she say, what could she say, would he not be clear about it?

Thank him for saving her.

Thanking him for helping her brother and father…

Finally, she would like to add one more sentence: What if there is an afterlife?

The man smiled bitterly.

But he never believed in the afterlife.

Lu Yan gently stroked the letter with his thumb and placed it on his chest.

Never mind.

Seeing your letter was like seeing you in person, but also a heart wrenching pain.

There was silence for a long time and Lu Yan suddenly felt that if there was only one person’s breathing in this room, it would be too lonely.

A cold wind blew in through the window, and the curtains swayed. He seemed to see her standing in front of him, with red lips, black eyebrows, and a lively look.

“My lord,” she said softly.

At this moment, Lu Yan thought that there was a good thing about being slightly drunk.

He patted his side and smiled, “Sit down.”

Lu Yan placed his hands on her waist, and once again, after more than seven hundred long nights and tens of thousands of miles, he held her in his arms.

He kissed her forehead, his throat was bitter and after a long while, he asked, “Are you used to the severe cold in the Northern Desert?”

The person in his arms didn’t answer.

He couldn’t help sobbing and asked, “Are you happy to be with him?”

“Will he mind that you’ve been with me for so long?”

“Will his mother set rules for you, huh?”

Shen Zhen stopped moving and did not respond to him.

At twenty-six, such a proud person, couldn’t help but have tears in his eyes in this endless night.

He kissed her earlobe and whispered, “I regret not protecting you.”

What I regret even more was that I never told you that I wanted to marry you.

Three books and six rites, a formal marriage.

Somehow, the girl sitting next to him suddenly burst into tears.

He was at a loss for words and went to gently wipe them away for her with his fingertips.

The arms he raised were almost stiff. “Don’t cry.”

The Northern Desert is so far away from me, if you really cried, I wouldn’t know.

Immediately afterwards, Shen Zhen in front of him suddenly turned into a wisp of smoke and disappeared. Lu Yan frowned, covered his chest, and shouted loudly, “Shen Zhen!”

“Shen Zhen!”

The thick black fog disappeared before his eyes. Lu Yan suddenly opened his eyes, sat up, breathing deeply.

Looking around, this was not the Zhenguo Duke’s Mansion, nor was it Chengyuan… where was this?

Before he could recover, Shen Zhen raised her hand to cover his mouth and pushed him back onto the bed.

There were sounds of footsteps outside her room.

“Miss?” It was Miao Li’s voice.

“Yes.” Shen Zhen said, “What, what’s the matter?”

“Miss, I just heard a noise. Can I come in and take a look?” Miao Li asked.

Shen Zhen’s heart was beating fast. She cleared her throat and said, “No, you don’t need to come in! It was just a nightmare.”

Miao Li frowned, “It would be better for me to go in and take a look…”

Shen Zhen shouted: “”You really don’t need to come in!”

Just at this moment, Qingxi pulled up her clothes and walked over quickly. How could she not know what was going on inside!

Qingxi laughed and said, “Sister Miao, let’s go. I also had the problem of talking in my sleep since I was a child.”

Miao Li hesitated for a moment, but seeing that the people inside and outside had the same opinion, she had no choice but to nod.

After the footsteps faded away, Shen Zhen’s beautiful eyes widened, and while glaring at Lu Yan, she lowered her voice and asked, “Why did you call my name in the middle of the night? Are you afraid that others don’t know you are here?”

Shen Zhen was on top and Lu Yan was on the bottom. This time, the man did not resist at all.

Shen Zhen looked down at him, frowned, raised her little hand, and asked stutteringly: “You…why are your eyes red?”
