SDVPP Chapter 41

Ancient Street

Chi Han had long since thrown the matter of the Fang family banquet to the back of his mind. Lately, aside from studying, his whole heart had been focused on how to heal Rong Xu’s leg.

His WeChat contact list was packed full of traditional Chinese medicine doctors, Western doctors, and even a few massage and physical therapy specialists.

“Hot springs… sake, herbal pouches…”

Chi Han scrolled down the screen with his mouse, bit by bit. A few freshly finished test papers were folded beside his hand.

Ever since he discovered that Rong Xu’s hands and feet were cold and that he was prone to leg pain, Chi Han had been searching for good hot spring places nearby.

During summer vacation, everywhere was crowded with people. The old, reputable bathhouses were surely packed full. Chi Han himself didn’t really mind, but if he were to drag Rong Xu along…

Hiss…

That scene was truly unimaginable.

Chi Han had spent several days looking before he finally found a small hot spring town in the neighboring province. It had only opened in recent years and operated entirely on a reservation basis. There were no public baths, all were private.

Because of the quality of service and the refined amenities, the prices were also quite steep. Just one night alone costs nearly ten thousand yuan.

And that didn’t even include food or drinks, just the cost of soaking for one night.

Chi Han’s lifestyle wasn’t exactly frugal, but he had never been extravagant either. Still, whenever it came to anything involving Rong Xu, he never hesitated to spend money.

He found the reservation page and directly paid the deposit for three nights in a medicinal bath suite.

Starting from tomorrow.

Judging by the time, the various massage devices he’d ordered from Taobao should also be arriving soon.

Just as Chi Han shut down the computer and stretched lazily, Rong Xu happened to come in from the study doorway. He stopped there and raised a hand to knock on the door.

“Chi Han…”

As Rong Xu lifted his eyes, he immediately saw the slender, pale waist beneath the silk pajamas, dazzling in the soft golden morning light.

The second half of his sentence never made it out.

Chi Han always felt that keeping the door closed was too stifling—the air wouldn’t circulate. Besides, there were only Rong Xu and the butler at home, so there wasn’t really anyone he needed to avoid. As a result, he almost never closed the door unless he was taking a shower.

Which led to Rong Xu having pretty much seen all of his upper body by now.

Even when Chi Han got caught changing clothes, he didn’t really react. A guy showing his chest—what’s so weird about that?

If the weather gets hotter in a few days, he might end up wearing even less.

He just wasn’t sure if Rong Xu saw him wandering around in big shorts, would he get kicked out of the house?

Rong Xu was still dressed in a black shirt, with the collar buttoned all the way up, not a single bit of skin exposed.

He looked cold and distant, restrained to the point of asceticism.

Except for those eyes, which were dark and intense.

Chi Han, having just finished stretching, unconsciously walked toward the doorway. The carpet on the floor had just been replaced. It looked fluffy and soft, very comfortable.

He’d been sitting at the desk looking things up earlier. His slippers had probably gotten pushed under the desk. Chi Han didn’t feel like looking for them, so he just stepped barefoot onto the carpet.

Although the butler had brought over his pajamas when they moved in, Chi Han was still wearing the set Rong Xu had given him. He’d only go back to wearing his own once that one was in the wash.

The pajama pants were a little long, loosely draped over the tops of his feet, revealing just half of the instep and round, fair toes.

Chi Han rubbed his hair with one hand, lazily leaning against the doorframe.

The buttons on his pajamas were done up haphazardly, and even mismatched from side to side. A large portion of his chest was exposed. Through the gap, a faint protrusion could be seen.

“Are you heading out?”

Chi Han rubbed his neck, eyes half-lowered as he looked at Rong Xu. The other clearly looked dressed to go out.

“Want me to come with you?”

Rong Xu’s deep, heavy gaze slowly moved away from that shadowy area. His voice was somewhat cold and tense.

“No need. I’ll be back tonight.”

Chi Han nodded, casually asked, “Where to?”

Rong Xu’s eyes flickered. Today was the day Fang Jingluo would take over the Fang family. He had been planning for this moment for days, just waiting to see Fang Jingluo fall.

The moment he thought about what it meant that Fang Jingluo had lowered the entry threshold, Rong Xu’s eyes couldn’t help but darken with a faint trace of blood.

The coiled viper in his heart had long been straining to sink its fangs into Fang Jingluo’s throat. So today, he had to be there in person at the Fang family estate.

But Chi Han didn’t need to be.

Rong Xu hid the shadowy gloom on his face. When he lifted his head again, his expression had already returned to normal.

He said lightly, “There’s a problem at the studio. I need to go deal with it. Lunch meeting too.”

Chi Han didn’t think much of it. He nodded and said, “Then don’t drink, okay? And don’t eat anything cold either. Come back early tonight. I booked plane tickets to Province A for tomorrow. Let’s go have some fun for a few days.”

Chi Han’s eyes sparkled, his light chestnut-colored irises clear and bright. In them, there was only Rong Xu.

Rong Xu’s heart immediately softened. He rubbed his fingertips together, barely managing to suppress the restless stir in his chest.

“Put your slippers on properly.”

Rong Xu was always like this. Whether it was something happy or something upsetting, there was never much change on his face.

If it were someone else who just heard they were going on a trip, even if they didn’t jump with joy, they’d at least smile, right?

But this guy didn’t react at all. His first response was actually to tell him to put his slippers on properly!

And he, after all, had spent days tugging at his hair and searching everywhere to plan this!

The more Chi Han thought about it, the angrier he got. He puffed up his cheeks and stomped his feet on the floor twice, then stomped two more times.

“Not wearing them!”

With that, he ran barefoot down the stairs.

Rong Xu: “…………”

He stared quietly at the figure running downstairs, then reached out and touched his own leg.

If he could stand up, he’d definitely catch that brat, pin him to the bed, and give him a good spanking.

So disobedient.

***

The Fang family was putting a great deal of effort into this banquet. They had even tidied up and opened the ancient street, which was usually closed to outsiders.

Rare flowers and exotic plants, precious birds and beasts were displayed at street corners and alleyways for guests to admire.

The shops lining the street retained their Qing Dynasty appearance. Large quantities of spirit stones and rare treasures were sealed behind glass and placed on the counters.

The Fang family’s deep wealth and foundation were revealed in full, all at once.

When Rong Xu arrived, he happened to catch Fang Jingluo and the old master of the Fang family talking with someone at the entrance. He glanced at the man in a mid-length trench coat and immediately had a sense of who he was.

That man was the president of the Jade Appraisal Association, only five years younger than Old Master Fang.

He was probably here to help Fang Jingluo build connections.

To be able to stand and chat for this long right at the entrance…

A trace of mockery crept onto Rong Xu’s lips.

Putting on a show, was it?

The thin man standing beside Fang Jingluo glanced up quickly at Rong Xu, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes. But he immediately lowered his head again, returning to the silent, somewhat ordinary demeanor he usually displayed.

Rong Xu gave him a faint glance, then rolled his wheelchair into the ancient street.

The piece he had carefully planted, hopefully, would prove more useful now.

Though it wouldn’t do to crush it all in one blow. Rong Xu’s eyes darkened. He still preferred destroying someone bit by bit.

The one who had always seemed kind and harmless in front of Chi Han had finally, in this moment, revealed his glinting fangs and deadly claws.

The warm spring breeze carried with it faint sounds of laughter.

“Come, come, Jingluo, introduce your carver here to Teacher Wang…”
