I am a human ah, are you not?

Chapter 2.3: 愚人一无所有(二)

[Simpleton have nothing (II)]

Xu Jiu stood up straight uncertainly, exchanged glances with the others in the room, and then picked up the bucket and mop, followed the duo without saying a word, trailed them on the lift, and went all the way down to the negative four floors of the location.

Xu Jiu’s heart was drumming, and he believed that the remaining people were just as apprehensive as he was.

Negative floor is the core area of this top secret experiment, negative four is the top priority here, there is a special team in charge of cleaning, never let these new cleaners go in, now why suddenly have to bring a group of people down?

The lift door opened.

Xu Jiu looked down at the scene below and slowly, with extreme shock, his eyes widened.

It was almost like an open square, and looking down from where the lift was, hundreds of people were busily and orderly circling around the square. But what shocked him the most was the huge glacier that stood at the far end, like a large inscribed stele that had not been melted for eternity, in which floated… a gorgeous to unbelievable giant.

——It was a jellyfish.

Its umbrella cover is delicately rolled in the ice, covered with dark blue, light blue, azure, and haze purple… All the purple and blue colours seem to be perfectly annotated on it. Its tentacles are as thin as silky threads, and its mouth and wrists are like flowing gossamer ribbons.

If Xu Jiu’s estimation with his naked eyes was correct, the body length of this jellyfish was at least more than fifty metres, and in front of it, human beings were as small as ants.

The ancient ice freesed the motion, giving it an unrivalled timeless beauty, as if draped in the light of a starry sky. Only dreamland, the hallucinations of poets and the delusions of madmen can contain this creature, and the common man, when confronted with it, is left breathless by this supernatural aesthetic.

Am I dreaming? Xu Jiu thought in a trance, or did he eat too many compressed biscuits and get hysterical?

“Don’t wander off!” The researcher in front of him chided, “Get down there and do your job, and hurry up and clean up that area.”

Like meeting with sharp warning, only then Xu Jiu came back to his senses, hurriedly followed downstairs, and waited until the destination then take a look, everyone was quiet.

Contrasted with the glacier jellyfish, is the bottom area of a bloody ground.

Putrid stench came from the nose, several inhuman skeletons scattered on the ground, posture extremely twisted, as if before death suffered a very great pain, rotten meat and swollen viscera coated all over the ground. The pus and blood of the corpses were also a strange purple-black colour, and seemed to contain strong corrosiveness, burning the solid alloy floor to pits.

Xu Jiu subconsciously held his breath as he gripped the mop in his hand, completely at a loss.

“Hurry up!” The man at the back urged, “What are you waiting for?”

It was only then that the cleaners came back from their shock and began to slowly push the miserable pile of rotten flesh on the ground with their mops. Xu Jiu took a step forward and stepped on a small piece of hard material under his foot, he moved his shoe away and looked down.

It was a half-dissolved, incomplete piece of the work sign. Xu Jiu squinted his eyes and could barely recognize the number “14”.

He understood where the previous cleaners had gone.

Adjusting the position of his mask, he gently breathed in, not bothering to stare at the jellyfish any longer, and began to take a mop and swipe at the broken flesh on the floor.

These people didn’t know how long they had been dead, and the blood on the ground was a bit sticky. Xu Jiu and the others combined their efforts, first pulling over a hose to wash the large chunks of bones and debris to the side, then diluting the filthy blood that looked like it was in mortal danger. Bucket after bucket of scrubbing water was poured, and the stainless steel barrels were instantly too rotten to use, only to be replaced with another tool.

Despite the utmost care, there was still an inadvertent splash of residual blood that penetrated the thick gloves and stained Xu Jiu’s wrist. He huffed and pulled the glove off in a panic, and saw that the left wrist already had a large piece of ulceration as big as a coin, as if a piece of flesh had been sucked down alive.

Xu Jiu gritted his teeth in pain, his brain immediately sweated, good thing the cleaner’s toolkit is always equipped with disinfectant water, as well as a few basic bleeding medications. He hurriedly stood far away, disinfected the wound and applied medicine, before solemnly changing into new gloves and joining the queue again in a cautious manner.

“Hey, Number 6,” The caretaker off to the side couldn’t help but whisper and strike up a conversation with him as he watched him get inadvertently trapped, “Tell me, is this how these people died just like that?”

“Pretty much.” Xu Jiu also lowered his voice, “All be careful … stained is not fun.”

“Stop talking!” The person across from them made a hissing warning sound, “You guys aren’t afraid of death, I’m still afraid, quickly get to work!”

The seven people co-operated, and it still took nearly two hours before the area was cleared. The two previous researchers came over and surveyed the area for a moment, nodding their heads in satisfaction.

“From now on, every morning at seven o’clock, you guys will come here specifically to take charge.” One of them said, “Go over there and register your information.”

The other one added, “No late arrivals, much less early departures, got it? Keep your mouth shut and do a good job, there are more benefits here than outside.”

Xu Jiu didn’t say a word, and other people’s hearts all sank.

Do a good job? How to do, life is hanging on the edge of the cliff, who still cares about the illusory “benefits” ah?

The two researchers finished and left, not taking the silence of the caretaker seriously. Xu Jiu did not say anything, bored head to enter personal information, just talked to him and came up again, miserably said: “How can this be done ah? Those rotten meat, will be our learning from past mistakes…”

Xu Jiu glanced at his sign labelled “No. 13”, the corner of his mouth pulled down.

“Don’t think about these (unrealistic) things,Big Brother,” he said, “This matter is only sooner or later right?”
