“Xiaolu, take this visitor list to your Hui-jie at the front desk.”
**Hui-jie means Sister Hui/ Big Sister Hui.
“Oh, okay.” Intern Xiaolu accepted the document handed over by her supervisor without lifting her head.
“Oh by the way, remember to tell her the list needs to be entered into the system, and then a copy should be sent to every person in HR. She’s forgetful, so stay there and supervise. Make sure it’s all entered before you come back, okay?”
“Yes, I’ll go right now.”
From the 16th floor down to the first floor, Xiaolu held the document and jogged all the way to the front desk: “Hui-jie, this is the visitor list that needs to be entered into the system. In a few minutes…”
“OK~” Hui-jie interrupted her before she finished, patting the empty seat beside her: “You’re here to supervise, right? Come, sit here.”
It seemed like she was already used to it.
Xiaolu let out an “oh” and obediently sat beside her.
Hui-jie had already finished the morning’s work. She hummed a tune while touching up her makeup, then opened the entry system to begin inputting the list. “Oh, there are quite a lot of interviews today.”
Hui-jie chatted lazily with Xiaolu while her hands flew across the keyboard, her skilled movements completely at odds with her tone: “So many newly graduated male college students, we’re going to feast our eyes again.”
Xiaolu looked confused: “Huh?”
Hui-jie gave her a meaningful wink: “Haven’t you noticed? The men in our company are all very good-looking.”
She really hadn’t paid attention.
But since it was brought up, Xiaolu couldn’t help but begin to seriously observe the employees coming and going through the front doors.
Hmm, that one is a bit older but still has a great figure; hmm, this one is handsome, fair-skinned, clean and well-proportioned; hmm, this one looks average, but he’s well-groomed and confident, which improves his temperament.
“You’re right.” She whispered in awe. “When did the average male quality get so high?”
“Nonono.” Hui-jie held up a finger to correct her: “It’s not that the average male quality improved. It’s that the men in our company have always been top-notch.”
Xiaolu: “Why?”
“Of course it’s because of…neijuan.”
**Neijuan means excessive, irrational competition, especially in work, school, or social life.
Hui-jie smiled: “Everyone has a competitive heart. President Yan is famous for his handsome looks, right? After all the girls see him, then look at other men, how could they not compare them?”
Xiaolu nodded.
Hui-jie: “Men’s pride and competitiveness can’t be underestimated. Who can stand seeing disappointment in a woman’s eyes? So even if they can’t match up, they try their hardest to close the gap. If they can’t be a flower, they definitely won’t settle for being the ugliest green leaf. Bit by bit, it has become a hidden corporate culture of the company.”
Xiaolu: “Then doesn’t that make President Yan the king of juan without knowing it?”
**Juan can mean overachieving/overachievers. Usually called the “King of Rolls”.
Hui-jie stroked her chin: “That’s not wrong.”
Xiaolu had a sudden realization: “I see! What a great company culture!”
Hui-jie looked at her with a kindly “a student worth teaching” expression: “How long have you been interning? Have you seen President Yan yet?”
Xiaolu shook her head: “I just arrived two days ago, I haven’t seen him yet.”
Hui-jie: “Bad timing, he’s been on a business trip. You’ll see him next week.”
Xiaolu nodded eagerly with expectation in her eyes. Just then, someone passed by the door. She subconsciously looked up and, upon seeing the person clearly, her expression froze and her eyes widened slightly: “Wow…”
Hui-jie chatted while typing the long list: “What’s wrong?”
Xiaolu’s eyes followed: “Such a beautiful green leaf…”
Hui-jie looked up and raised her eyebrows.
The man was wearing a well-fitted suit and walked with an unhurried pace. His slender frame wrapped by fabric was like pine and bamboo, his temperament cool like snow, and paired with an outstanding appearance that made people forget the worldly things….
“Ah.” Xiaolu snapped back to her senses after a gentle knock to her forehead. By the time she looked again, the beautiful green leaf had turned into the elevator and disappeared.
Hui-jie withdrew her hand: “Girl, wake up. That’s no green leaf.”
Xiaolu: “Then what is he?”
Hui-jie crossed her arms and beamed: “That’s the treasure of the King of Juan.”

“Assistant Ye.”
“Mm.” Ye Wenyu stepped out of the elevator. “Is everyone here?”
“Yes, the French company’s inspection team has all arrived. They’re waiting in the conference room.”
Ye Wenyu: “How’s the inspection result?”
“After comparison, they’ve decided to collaborate with our company. But before signing the contract, they requested a face-to-face meeting with President Yan to discuss some details.”
Ye Wenyu: “Is President Yan ready?”
“He just finished his morning work and is on the way back to the hotel. The inspection team has been informed and said they’re willing to wait.”
Ye Wenyu: “Understood. Thanks. Go ahead and get back to your tasks.”
With documents in hand, Ye Wenyu entered the conference room alone.
He had already met the inspection team members before, so the reception process went smoothly.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, he opened his laptop and connected to the display. Half a minute later, the other protagonist of this meeting appeared on the projector screen.
Inside the hotel, Yan Chen wore a suit identical in color and style to his, even the tie was the same. The tailored outfit outlined the man’s perfect shoulder line.
In the few years from campus to the workplace, his features had become more defined. The flamboyance etched into his bones now exuded a deep, mature confidence that only made his brilliance even more dazzling.
After a brief apology and pleasantries in French, the business negotiations began. Yan Chen switched back to Chinese and left the rest of the simultaneous translation work to the professional, Ye Wenyu.
Nearly an hour passed, and the negotiation process went very smoothly.
After it ended, staff responsible for the contract signing guided the visiting delegation to the next step. Once everyone had left and the spacious conference room quieted down, Ye Wenyu began to pack up and prepare to leave.
The device used to connect the video call hadn’t been disconnected yet. The man on the screen had shed the calm, composed, meticulous demeanor of work. His shoulders were relaxed, and his gaze never left Ye Wenyu on the other side of the screen.
But Ye Wenyu seemed not to notice at all.
He quietly sorted the documents without lifting his head. All Yan Chen could see were the faint flutters of his eyelashes, which scratched at his heart. Being ignored for too long, his brows gradually began to furrow.
It wasn’t until Ye Wenyu had packed everything and placed his hand above the screen as if ready to close the laptop and end the call that Yan Chen finally couldn’t help but let out a soft huff.
In the quiet room, that slightly aggrieved and complaining sound reached Ye Wenyu immediately. The corners of his lips quietly curled up, and he finally “mercifully” gave him a glance.
“I miss you a lot,” Ye Wenyu said softly. “Come back soon.”
And Yan Chen was like a large dog whose chin had been scratched from afar. His frown instantly eased, his eyes curved in joy, and he wagged his invisible tail enthusiastically. His mood visibly turned from cloudy to sunny. “Okay, wife.”
After getting off work that afternoon, Ye Wenyu brought unfinished documents home.
In fact, they weren’t urgent tasks. It was just that with Yan Chen away on a business trip, being alone at home left him unsure what to do. Everything felt boring, so it was better to spend time on something meaningful like work.
The decor in the house had been subtly changed before someone left, mostly reflected in the display shelves at the entrance bar, the coffee table in the living room, the shelf in the bathroom, and the nightstand beside the bed.
The shelf that originally displayed artistic sculptures now held a championship trophy from someone’s Universiade; the wine was replaced with someone’s handmade cross-stitch; the vase on the coffee table had become a wishing crystal ball gifted by someone; someone’s toothbrush and water cup was now placed is the most conspicuous position in the bathroom; and even on the nightstand, in front of the little nightlight, several photo frames of various sizes had been added, all filled with photos of the two of them.
Since he had to go away on a business trip, he seemed determined to ensure everything in sight would remind Ye Wenyu of him.
This man had grown more mature in the eyes of others, but in front of him, he had become increasingly childish. Ye Wenyu was speechless about this childish behavior, but when he accidentally knocked over one of the photo frames while putting down his keys, he still carefully picked it up and put it back.
Anyway, after all the exhaustion from work, being a little childish at home wasn’t so bad, right?
After dinner, when he returned to the study and waited for the computer to boot up, he realized he had forgotten to turn off his phone’s silent mode. On checking it, he unsurprisingly found over a dozen unread messages.
Yan Chen: [Ding! A scheduled report from Mr. Yan’s draft box, your husband is now diligently in a meeting. One meeting after another! When can I get home to cuddle in bed with my wife! (Animated bunny crying)]
Yan Chen: [Ding! A scheduled report from Mr. Yan’s draft box, your husband should still be in a meeting! (Animated bunny is irritated)]
Yan Chen: [Ding! A scheduled report from Mr. Yan’s draft box, your husband is either at the next experience point or on the way there. (Animated bunny wiping tears)]
Yan Chen: [I give up, wife, how can this business partner talk so much nonsense?]
Yan Chen: [Ding! A scheduled report from Mr. Yan’s draft box, your husband is currently painfully having dinner with a very chatty business partner. Have you eaten, wife? Remember to drink more water and sleep on time. (Animated bunny blows a kiss)]
Each message was sent at half-hour intervals. Except for one or two that he had managed to send in between meetings, the rest were all pre-written and scheduled from the draft box.
This habit dated back to when they were in college and Yan Chen had to go into closed training.
For a month and a half, they couldn’t contact each other. So Yan Chen edited dozens of messages in advance, one for each day. Even though Ye Wenyu knew these were scheduled messages, he would still reply to each one seriously and promptly.
After the competition ended, Yan Chen would look through them one by one with great interest, holding his phone while locking the blushing Ye Wenyu in his arms. For every message he read, he would kiss him fiercely, claiming that he was too excited and if he didn’t let it out, he might suffer internal injuries.
As for the draft box habit, when asked if he liked it… okay, he liked it a lot. But he always worried that with business trips already so tiring, spending extra time on this might cost Yan Chen valuable rest.
To this, Yan Chen’s answer was naturally: no.
Every business trip was different, and Ye Wenyu also had his own work. It was impossible to take him along every time. When Ye Wenyu wasn’t around, nothing felt interesting during his free time after work.
Since nothing else mattered, he might as well do something related to Ye Wenyu to pass the time and finish his work sooner so he could go home earlier.
Ye Wenyu smiled with his lips pressed together and, as always, seriously replied to every message from Mr. Yan’s draft box.
After finishing work, he shut down the computer and went to take a shower. He took a set of clearly oversized pajamas from the closet and entered the bathroom. When he came back out, there was another message on his phone.
Yan Chen: [Ding! A scheduled report from Mr. Yan’s draft box, your husband is still attending a boring business dinner. He probably hasn’t had time to eat dinner yet, but don’t worry, he won’t starve from missing one meal. (Animated bunny shakes head)]
Ye Wenyu was halfway through typing a reply, but suddenly thought of something. He deleted the drafted message, turned on the camera, took a simple photo facing the lens, and sent it.
Ye Wenyu: [Ding! An unscheduled report from Mr. Ye. I’m going to bed now. Good night to Mr. Yan’s draft box, and by the way, also good night to Mr. Yan. (Animated bunny tucks in)]

On a rare day off, Ye Wenyu slept until he woke up naturally. He pulled open the bed curtains and saw that the sky outside was already bright and the sun was shining.
The Auntie had already prepared breakfast, tidied the living room, and left. Ye Wenyu checked his phone but didn’t find any messages and guessed that Mr. Yan had not yet woken up, so he decided not to disturb him.
Ye Wenyu sat at the dining table and slowly finished his breakfast. After reading for a while, his eyes were dazzled by the sunlight creeping to his feet. He thought for two seconds, then got up and changed into swimming trunks.
The sunlight outside was even more brilliant than it appeared indoors. Everything it touched was coated in a layer of gold, turning the pool into the clearest aquamarine flowing crystal.
He didn’t have much athletic talent, but with a boyfriend who was a swimming champion, the learning process…though bumpy and hard to describe…had finally borne fruit. He couldn’t say his level was high, but at least he had learned.
He crouched down and tested the water temperature with his hand. Just as he was about to get in, the sound of a car pulling up came from the gate.
Ye Wenyu subconsciously looked up. Not long after, Mr. Yan, whom he hadn’t seen for days, walked through the front door in formal wear, his steps relaxed and heading straight toward him.
Ye Wenyu stood up in surprise. His Adam’s apple moved several times and just as he was about to speak, Yan Chen, like a bandit plundering something in sight, effortlessly picked him up and casually walked into the house.
Ye Wenyu: “…”
Ye Wenyu lay over Yan Chen’s shoulder, the inside of his thighs brushing against Yan Chen’s waist. He felt a kiss on the side of his neck, followed by Yan Chen’s low voice, laced with undisguised delight: “I like this way of welcoming.”
Ye Wenyu was confused: “What method?”
Yan Chen: “Coming home to a naked wife waiting for me in the yard.”
Ye Wenyu: “…”
Forget it. He wouldn’t argue with someone who just got home from a business trip.
Ye Wenyu: “Why did you book such an early flight?”
“I couldn’t wait to come back home.” Once inside, Yan Chen set Ye Wenyu down on the entryway cabinet, lowered his head to kiss him, and kneaded his slender waist with just the right pressure. “Getting ready to swim?”
Longing surged after their brief separation. Ye Wenyu enjoyed the kiss, narrowed his eyes, and nodded slightly.
Yan Chen stepped back a little: “Do you mind bringing Mr. Yan along?”
Ye Wenyu hooked his arms around his neck and leaned in for another kiss: “You just got back. Don’t you want to rest first?”
“Of course,” Yan Chen laughed and narrowed his eyes, “but my dear, sleep isn’t the best way for me to rest.”
“Swimming together” was a sensitive phrase for Ye Wenyu, especially when it came out of his Mr. Yan’s mouth.
Why? One sentence explained it: the sensitivity came from countless painful real-life experiences.
But after days apart, combined with the dangerously bewitching kisses, the double buffs made his head spin. By the time he was coaxed into the pool and pinned against the edge, he only realized what was happening in a daze.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
This wasn’t their first time here.
But it was the first time in broad daylight.
Even though the yard was surrounded by thick greenery that left no gaps, even though it was in the blind spot of all high-rise buildings, Ye Wenyu still felt a bit overwhelmed by the stimulation.
Especially when it was clear that people or vehicles were passing by outside the fence.
The buff of reunion showed itself even more intensely on Yan Chen than on him.
The water surface shook violently, occasionally splashing onto the shore. The ripples expanded in semi-circles with them as the center, sparkling in the sunlight, beautiful and clear.
Hot kisses traced along his butterfly valley, moved up his spine, and blunt and explicit words, accompanied by heavy breathing, poured endlessly into his ears.
Ye Wenyu turned into a boiled shrimp, his skin flushed red.
Just as his hand curled, another hand with a distinctly different skin tone covered the back of his hand and their fingers interlaced tightly.
He kept pleading to change the location to no avail, and could only resign himself to changing his request: “Can you… can you say something else…”
“Sure.” This time, Yan Chen was very agreeable. With a low laugh and a husky voice, he said: “Tu es l’habitat de mon âme, c’est la coquille que j’ai cherché toute ma vie. (You are the habitat of my soul, the shell I’ve been searching for all my life.)”
So obscure yet romantic. Ye Wenyu froze for a long time before he realized it was from the love letter he once wrote to Yan Chen after combing through all of French romantic literature.
The color of his boiled shrimp blush deepened another shade.
Unable to bear it, he pulled away his hand and turned sideways to cover Yan Chen’s mouth: “Just focus on what you’re doing, stop…stop talking!”
Before the sun shifted from the warmth of early morning to the scorching heat of noon, Yan Chen carried Ye Wenyu back to the bedroom.
The sensation of warm water washing over his body felt comforting, but unfortunately, it couldn’t wash away the tingling soreness beneath the skin.
The moment he sank into the blankets, exhaustion flooded every inch of his body. Ye Wenyu just wanted to close his eyes and fall asleep, but someone was in a state of insatiable desire and once again pressed down on him.
Ye Wenyu tried to stop him by placing his hands against his shoulders, but quickly surrendered in the face of those tender kisses, tilting his head up to respond with greedy affection.
Yan Chen gently massaged his waist. “Wife, where should we spend the Mid-Autumn Festival this year?”
Ye Wenyu’s voice was as soft as a kitten’s whine: “Aren’t we going to Dong Xi’s wedding…”
A palm slid down, lightly lifting Ye Wenyu’s thigh. “But this year we have a five-day holiday for Mid-Autumn.”
Ye Wenyu’s eyes turned red at the corners the moment Yan Chen sank into him, and his fingertips dug into the muscles on Yan Chen’s back. “Then let’s go to Wucheng, and while we’re there… let’s bring back Xian Tuan. Mom said ever since it lost its baby teeth, it’s been acting a little…”
Yan Chen pulled him tightly into his embrace, rubbing the tip of his nose affectionately. “Okay.”
