ABFA Chapter 7

Admission 1

Jiang Yue woke up in the warm tent.

Raindrops tapped against the tent, and the wind howled outside. She was covered with a blanket, and a gentle warm breeze blew against her face, making her feel as if she were in a dream.

Inside the tent, many alphas had gathered, grouped together in threes and fives. Only Jiang Yue lay alone beside the heater.

She slowly sat up, her gaze sweeping around the tent. In the small group of eight in the southeast corner, she spotted Song Yang. He was chatting and laughing with a group of alphas, once again the sunny, handsome alpha he always was.

Song Yang’s gaze subtly swept towards Jiang Yue. When their eyes met, he casually averted his gaze without leaving a trace.

Though the tent was warm, Jiang Yue began to feel a chill spreading through her body.

Song Yang must have passed the exam, while she, who hadn’t, would be eliminated.

What should she do next? She could pursue a clerical job. Though she wasn’t fond of the alpha gender, she had to admit that it was easier for an alpha to find work. Most positions were more willing to hire a strong alpha.

Occasionally, Jiang Yue would fantasize about being a woman like Hua Mulan[mfn]Hua Mulan is one of the most famous figures in Chinese literature and folklore. She is traditionally portrayed as a woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army during a time of war. Mulan’s story is best known through the Ballad of Mulan, a poem that dates back to the Northern Wei dynasty (386–534).[/mfn] or Mu Guiying[mfn]Mu Guiying is another legendary figure, known primarily from The Generals of the Yang Family, a collection of stories that has been popularized in Chinese opera and literature. In these tales, Mu Guiying is a general who plays a vital role in defending the country and her people.[/mfn], but as much as she thought about it, she knew it was easier said than done.

Inside the tent, everyone was speaking in low voices. Jiang Yue silently wrapped herself tighter in the blanket. Although she didn’t want to listen, her hearing was incredibly sensitive, and she overheard every word of the conversation from Song Yang’s group of eight.

“Isn’t she your friend? I remember you came with her. That female alpha’s dynamic tracking scores were quite impressive, I remember it clearly.”

Song Yang replied, “Not anymore. There aren’t many people who can stay friends forever. She didn’t pass the Federation Military Academy exam, and that means our differences will only grow. When we’re no longer in the same class, it’s hard to remain friends.”

Everyone strongly agreed with him, chiming in, “That’s true. She didn’t pass the third exam, so her chances of getting accepted are slim. But she’s pretty enough, she won’t starve if she relies on her looks.”

Alphas rarely compliment members of the same gender. If one alpha says another alpha is quite good-looking, it means that the latter’s appearance is truly stunning.

Song Yang said, “At the relief center, her face was indeed the most outstanding.”

Jiang Yue lay there like a dead fish.

Still lost.

Only lost, nothing but lost.

Her current state was one of not wanting to move at all.

Suddenly, the conversation in the tent came to an abrupt halt as two proctors walked into the tent.

The interstellar society values efficiency and doesn’t waste time on formalities. The two alphas, a man and a woman, both had sharp and decisive demeanors.

Without any preliminaries, they stood in the tent and directly announced the exam results.

The female alpha said with a cold expression, “Admission notices will be sent to your personal terminals. Those who receive an admission notice should report to the academic affairs office. Artificial intelligence will assign your dorms. By the way, the dropout rate at the Federation Military Academy is high, with only 73% of students graduating successfully. Don’t think that once you get into the Federation Military Academy, you can rest easy.”

After the rain stopped, the Federation Military Academy sent large trucks to take the alphas out of the mountain area.

Jiang Yue found a new hotel. She lay alone in a room as small and confining as a coffin, drinking water while sitting on the bed, gnawing on a steamed bun.

Just as she was looking at discounted bus tickets on her terminal, the terminal suddenly received a message. Jiang Yue opened it, and the Federation Military Academy’s light red admission notice was projected onto the virtual screen.

Jiang Yue choked on her breath.

To go or not to go—that was the question.

Facing the same issue, different people would make different choices.

Some choose to swim against the current, while others choose to go with the flow.

Jiang Yue was clearly the latter. She lacked initiative and drive.

She read the admission notice over and over, tossing and turning in bed.

Of course, she hadn’t forgotten to block the door with the door stopper, a reflex for a fragile girl in an unfamiliar environment.

Late into the night, the door stopper once again emitted a sharp, ear-piercing alarm.

Jiang Yue sprang out of bed. The alarm had woken many others, and they all came out of their rooms, curiously peering around.

“What’s going on? That’s the alarm from the door stopper, right?”

“There shouldn’t be any omegas in this kind of accommodation.”

“But as alphas, we still need to protect ourselves when we’re out.”

Jiang Yue, drenched in cold sweat, went to the hotel front desk to report the alarm.

The hotel owner looked awkward, nervously rubbing his hands like a fly: “Sorry about this, but you see, this place doesn’t really seem to have any surveillance, right? And besides, you’re a big, strong alpha. It’s just someone pushing the door a little. Why make such a big deal out of it?”

Jiang Yue shouted loudly, “What do you mean by making a big deal out of it? What’s wrong with me being an alpha? Does being an alpha mean I’m not protected by the law?”

The hotel owner was also helpless. “So, what do you want me to do? Maybe next time you should stay at a five-star hotel with surveillance?”

Jiang Yue was about to be driven mad. “If I had money, do you think I’d be staying here?!”

The owner shrugged. “Well, there you go. No money, no choice but to suffer.”

Jiang Yue: “…”

She was so angry that her brain felt deprived of oxygen, but once the anger subsided, she couldn’t help but worry about her personal safety.

There were Zerg eggs injected into her instant noodles, the surveillance at the relief center malfunctioned, and that night someone had tried to break into her room—now, this happened again.

When coincidences occur too many times, they cease to be coincidences.

She was Jiang Yue, the delicate little princess of the 21st century, not the alpha Jiang Yue in the interstellar ABO society.

Jiang Yue, with her sensitive and delicate nerves, felt particularly aggrieved. After crying in her room for a while, she finally made the decision to go to the Federation Military Academy.

“This semi-closed environment should be safer than society, right?”

There was another more important reason—she was out of money and couldn’t even afford the cheapest bus ticket. Aside from reporting to the Federation Military Academy, she had no idea where else to go.

The next day, Jiang Yue dragged herself to the academic affairs office to report in.

The interstellar society was full of artificial intelligence, and the large academic affairs office was bustling with people coming and going. Jiang Yue opened the admission notice, and after the machine scanned the barcode at the bottom of the notice, it assigned her a dormitory and a class.

Jiang Yue, a student of the Military Department’s Combat Class 1, student ID 2986999, Blue Whale District, Apartment 2, B2708, Bed 5.

Jiang Yue opened her terminal and followed the navigation route to her dormitory.

When she arrived at the dorm, she was very disappointed because the dormitory was just a regular upper-lower bunk setup, nothing different from the dorm she had in college.

Jiang Yue was the first alpha to arrive at the dorm, and the other beds were all empty.

“It’s already the interstellar age, how is the dormitory setup still so basic?”

As she was tidying up the bed, the dorm door was pushed open, and an alpha with fiery red hair walked in wearing headphones.

This alpha had a very rock-and-roll vibe, with a pair of fiery red ankle boots, tight indigo jeans, and a black skull T-shirt. His appearance was quite striking.

He tossed a silver metal suitcase onto the bed, pulled out a computer and a game controller, and without saying a word, immediately started playing a game.

The young alphas these days really have a lot of personality.

About five minutes later, a tall and elegant alpha walked in, carrying a green metal suitcase.

Light-washed blue jeans and a white T-shirt—a common summer combination for alphas.

He had a pair of dark green eyes, and his hair was also dark green, with a streak of light green highlights at the front of his forehead.

Smiling, he greeted Jiang Yue, “Hey, I’m Jiang Sen.”

Jiang Yue was wearing a white T-shirt and gray cargo pants, with black combat boots on her feet.

Although she still firmly believed in her heart that she was a delicate, fragile woman, like the beautiful Lin Daiyu[mfn]Lin Daiyu is a central character in Dream of the Red Chamber (Hong Lou Meng), a classic Chinese novel written by Cao Xueqin in the 18th century. She is one of the most beloved figures in Chinese literature, often considered a symbol of fragile beauty, emotional depth, and poetic talent.[/mfn], in the eyes of others, she was an alpha exuding wildness, a cold demeanor, and an aura that clearly screamed “keep your distance.”

Jiang Yue shook his hand and politely said, “Hello, I’m Jiang Yue.”

Just after they exchanged pleasantries, another roommate pushed the door open and entered. This time, it was a white-haired alpha, still wearing jeans and a white T-shirt, with a pair of white sneakers on his feet.

He also appeared a bit aloof. He glanced at Jiang Yue and Jiang Sen, then found his bed, No. 1, and directly jumped onto it to sleep, without even taking off his shoes.

Jiang Yue had already started worrying about the dormitory’s social dynamics.

Jiang Sen took his computer and game controller out of his suitcase and began playing games at the desk.

Jiang Yue had no entertainment activities to pass the time, so she simply lay on the bed, pulling the blanket up to cover her chin.

In the afternoon, another roommate arrived. He was a well-built guy with a buzz cut, wearing black cargo pants and a white tank top. His black combat boots had two skulls on them, giving him a rather intimidating appearance.

There were six people in total in the dorm, and so far, all the roommates who had arrived were male alphas. This made Jiang Yue feel extremely pressured, and she couldn’t help but cover herself with the blanket and pray desperately.

“Please let a female alpha come, please let a female alpha come, please let a female alpha come, I beg you, please, I can’t be the only girl with all these guys!!!”

Jiang Yue waited eagerly, her eyes almost glued to the door.

At six in the afternoon, the last roommate pushed open the dormitory door.

He was wearing a white tracksuit and a white baseball cap.

He took off his cap, slightly lifted his head, and his ice-blue eyes, as if made of ice and snow, just happened to meet Jiang Yue’s eager and expectant gray eyes.

His brows and eyes were like a red rose covered in dew—fiery and beautiful—but his expression was as cold and unapproachable as ice and snow.

He looked truly distant and unattainable, like a delicate rose frozen in ice.

Jiang Yue, however, had no time to admire his beauty. She only felt as if her heart had turned to ashes.

Help!

Six people in the dorm!

And she was the only female alpha!
