RRMGEH Chapter 34

Looking Down at Him

It was not until his death, when Gu Changheng’s soul floated above, that he saw his father, who was decisive in the business world, fainting multiple times and becoming increasingly depressed until he passed away. The white-haired old man would weep at the mention of his useless son, and only then did Gu Changheng realize how wrong he had been.

God treated him well and gave him a chance to start anew. In this life, he was determined to discern who truly cared for him and who had the heart of a beast beneath a human facade.

For those who treated him well, he would reciprocate. For those who wronged him, he would repay them in double!

During the latter half of the summer break before the second year of junior high school, Gu Changheng rejected all calls from his “brothers” asking him to go out and play. He either stayed at home or had the driver take him around, hoping for a chance encounter with Zhou Li.

While at home, Gu Changheng would accompany his father in playing chess.

Father Gu had always enjoyed chess. He loved military chess, Chinese chess, and Go. When he was younger, Gu Changheng would always pester his father to teach him.

As he grew older, Gu Changheng had his group of friends and more exciting ways to play. He no longer had the patience to accompany his father on the chessboard.

Even when Father Gu called him over to play a game, Gu Changheng would simply say, “Not interested.”

Now as he sat with his father and watched him gradually dominate the board and confidently say, “You’re still lacking, you need more practice,” but insisted on pulling him for another game, Gu Changheng found that his father was not really as strict and unapproachable as he had remembered.

He no longer recalled how their relationship had deteriorated to the point of arguing over small matters in his previous life, but in this life, he was determined to change everything.

Gu Changheng accompanied Mother Gu on shopping trips.

He noticed that she particularly loved to wrap her arm around his. Whenever others praised his height and handsome looks, she was immensely pleased, even happier than when she received the compliment herself.

These details were lost to him in his memories of his previous life. Now after being reborn, he realized how much he had missed in his previous life.

When the family was having dinner together in the evening, Father Gu asked, “Why haven’t I seen you out with your friends lately?”

“It’s too hot. I don’t feel like moving,” Gu Changheng casually made an excuse. “Besides, I’m tired of playing with those things outside, it’s boring.”

Mother Gu chimed in, “I agree. This summer is unbearably hot. You got heatstroke a few days ago, so stay home and don’t run around.”

“Yeah.”

Although both Father Gu and Mother Gu sensed that Gu Changheng seemed a bit different lately and was more caring about the family than before, they just attributed it to him being lazy and didn’t think much of it.

Gu Changheng counted down the days, and finally the first day of the third year of junior high school arrived. He prepared himself in front of the mirror multiple times, anxious that he might not make the best first impression on Zhou Li.

The moment he stepped into the classroom, Gu Changheng’s heart raced uncontrollably. He was about to see his Ah Li again…

Entering the classroom, Gu Changheng stood at the front. He scanned the room for Zhou Li’s figure. After searching once and then again, he still couldn’t find a trace of him.

Gu Changheng approached a classmate and asked, “Zhou Li is in our class, right?”

“Yeah!” The male classmate nodded.

“Where’s his seat?”

The male classmate pointed to a corner in the third-to-last row. That seat was empty. Gu Changheng walked over and sat down in Zhou Li’s seat.

Having lived over thirty years and floated in the air for so long, Gu Changheng actually felt very nervous waiting for his beloved.

Always worried that his image was not perfect and that Zhou Li wouldn’t fall for him as he had in his previous life, Gu Changheng adjusted his clothes once more.

Then, a shadow fell over him—

Gu Changheng looked up to see a noticeably younger Zhou Li, with a youthful glow, standing beside his desk and looking down at him.
