I Woke Up and Got Married Chapter 47

 Chapter 47

Chi Suinian stood frozen for a moment, his eyes clouded with confusion and resentment. Instinctively, he lowered his gaze to look for something he could use as a weapon.

The balcony was blooming with a vivid array of butterfly orchids, and gardening tools sat in a corner.

A small, lightweight trowel was lying among them.

Without thinking, Chi Suinian grabbed it, his knuckles turning white from the force of his grip.

Lu Zhiyue stepped onto the balcony and, noticing Chi Suinian’s strange demeanor, casually shut the glass door behind him. “What happened?”

Chi Suinian stared blankly at the trowel. “…Nothing.”

The phone screen had just gone dark, but Lu Zhiyue caught a glimpse of the name “Qin Suitian” and immediately sensed something. He frowned. “Something happened at the company?”

“Nothing.” Chi Suinian shoved him aside. “I’m leaving. Try the clothes on your own.”

“I’ll come with you?”

“No need.”

Chi Suinian staggered slightly but was pulled back by Lu Zhiyue. Before he could react, the metal trowel in his hand was snatched away.

“You’re not in the right state. I’ll have Lin Qi wait for you downstairs.”

Chi Suinian frowned and reached for the tool. “Lu Zhiyue, give it back.”

“You don’t need this.” Lu Zhiyue hid the trowel behind his back.

Chi Suinian froze for a moment, then suddenly realized—he was already an adult. No longer the powerless child he once was. There was no need to care about Chi Kaidong anymore.

Besides, this little trowel was more of a toy than anything else. Holding it didn’t offer any real sense of security—it even made him look childish.

How immature.

Only a kid would want something like this.

Let Lu Zhiyue play with it then.

“Don’t be scared. I’ve got your back,” Lu Zhiyue said as he gently smoothed out the crease between Chi Suinian’s brows.

Chi Suinian turned his head. “Bullshit. You think I’m scared?”

“Good. If you’re not scared, then how about dinner at home tonight?”

Chi Suinian gave him a sideways glance. “You’re a big-shot CEO. Why are you always so free? Don’t you have anything serious to do?”

“Your problems are serious business.” Lu Zhiyue ruffled his soft hair. “Now go. Don’t make me wait too long for dinner.”

Chi Suinian’s ears turned red. What Lu Zhiyue said sounded almost like a confession. The way he said it was ambiguous enough to stir feelings. Meanwhile, two female apprentices in the shop had already been giggling near the shelves for a while.

Chi Suinian quickly swatted his hand away. “Who said you could touch my hair?”

Pity—Chi Suinian’s hair, unlike his personality, was unbelievably soft.

“If you touch me without permission again, I’ll break your hand!” he snapped before turning to leave.

“Will you be back for dinner?”

“Not coming back!” he yelled without looking back.

“I’ll have Aunt Chen prepare seafood.”

Chi Suinian walked even faster.

Thinking a seafood dinner could bribe him? Dream on. He wouldn’t come back tonight. Let Lu Zhiyue starve.

Lin Qi was already waiting downstairs. As soon as Chi Suinian came down, he opened the backseat door. “Young Master Chi, please.”

Chi Suinian got in. “To Chihao.”

“Yes, sir.”

Lu Zhiyue stood on the balcony, watching the car drive away, and then made a call to Qin Suitian.

“What’s up?” Qin Suitian answered.

“Something happened at Chihao?” Lu Zhiyue asked.

“More or less,” Qin Suitian replied, lowering his voice amidst background chatter. “It’s mainly Chi Mingyao stirring trouble. He wants to seize power at Chihao. I can’t say much over the phone—you’d better ask Suinian directly. I’m busy now, gotta go.”

Lu Zhiyue put his phone away, but his frown deepened. Chi Suinian’s earlier reaction had been too unusual—instinctively grabbing a weapon for self-defense. That meant someone or something had truly scared him.

Chihao’s operations were still stable. So, it had to be a person

Lu Zhiyue considered himself well-informed about everyone and everything around Chi Suinian, but he still couldn’t think of anyone who could pose a real threat.

That meant this person… must be someone from before Suinian came to Jin City.

To uncover the truth, he might have to start digging into Tang Jin and Lu Heng.

···

“Young Master Chi, we’ve arrived at Chihao,” Lin Qi said for the third time inside the car. Finally, the figure in the backseat stirred.

“You can head back,” Chi Suinian said as he opened the door and got out.

“I’ll wait downstairs,” Lin Qi replied. “Mr. Lu instructed me to make sure you return home safely.”

Chi Suinian frowned slightly. “Suit yourself.”

“He’s here.” Qin Suitian was already waiting at the entrance and personally brought him up to his office.

“What’s going on? Why did Chi Kaidong suddenly show up?”

“My oversight,” Qin Suitian said with a sigh. “Chi Mingyao has been going back and forth to Ping City. I thought he was meeting some secret strategist. Turns out it was Chi Kaidong.”

Chi Suinian remembered something. “The one who never showed his face at the villa?”

“That’s the one.”

Qin Suitian looked troubled. “Now, 90% of Chi Mingyao’s shares are under Chi Kaidong’s name. With the recent acquisition of scattered shares, their holdings are now significant. I’m afraid we won’t be able to stop them from entering the board.”

“Then don’t stop them,” Chi Suinian said casually.

Qin Suitian froze. “What?”

…Was the kid out of his mind?

Chi Suinian tugged at the corner of his lips without explaining. “Where’s Chi Mingyao?”

“In the conference room. The shareholder meeting isn’t until next month, but the two of them already plan to start working at Chihao.”

“Take me to them.”

Qin Suitian stuttered, “T-Take you? Don’t you want to prepare first?”

Chi Suinian frowned. “Prepare what?”

“Uh… nothing…”

Old Mr. Chi had known his grandson was reckless, which was why he spent his final years training loyal subordinates for him.

Qin Suitian was one of them.

So, he knew a bit about the history between Chi Suinian and Chi Kaidong. From what little he understood, Chi Suinian had been abused as a child.

The trauma of childhood abuse often lingers for life. Qin Suitian had always assumed that facing Chi Kaidong would send Suinian into a fit of rage or panic.

He never expected him to be so calm.

It was… quite surprising.

Chi Suinian said, “Let’s go.”

As they walked through the building, Chi Suinian noticed that Chihao was unusually busy today. Many employees were whispering about the upheaval in the company’s leadership.

“I heard the company’s getting a new board member.”

“Me too. Linda in HR already saw the files. Supposedly it’s a Wall Street heavyweight!”
“For real?”
“It’s a good thing. President Chi rarely involves himself in company affairs. He lacks experience, has a bad temper, and his reputation outside isn’t great… If that new board member really joins, it might be a blessing.”

“…President Chi! Assistant Qin!”

The employees chatting near the break room immediately shut up and scattered when they saw Qin Suitian and Chi Suinian walk in. One of the male employees went pale—Chi Suinian clearly remembered that this was the guy who’d just been talking about his bad temper and reputation.

Qin Suitian frowned and swept his gaze across them. “Chatting during work hours?”

He didn’t yell, but his usual authority and presence were enough. The group quickly grabbed their cups and disappeared along the wall.

Chi Suinian walked through the office without glancing around, ignoring the stares he received.

When he reached the office door, he paused slightly.

The door wasn’t fully closed. He could hear two voices inside—quiet, but the tone and timbre made it unmistakably Chi Kaidong’s.

Over ten years had passed since his grandparents took him in. He hadn’t seen Chi Kaidong since then and assumed he never would. But here the man was—brazen enough to show up.

Chi Suinian kicked the door open. The loud noise startled the two men inside, who immediately stopped talking and turned to look at him.

Chi Mingyao looked up and gave a faint smile. “Suinian, come here. Look who’s back—your father. Come, say hi to your dad.”

Next to him sat a middle-aged man in a gray suit, with sunken eyes and graying hair. Upon seeing Chi Suinian, his expression froze for a moment before lighting up with surprise, tinged with hesitation—as if afraid to break the moment. “Suinian? You’ve grown so much… good, good, my son…”

Chi Suinian’s lips tightened.

Qin Suitian quickly closed and locked the door behind them. “Let’s all sit down. We can talk this through calmly.”

“Of course, of course.” Chi Kaidong patted the chair beside him. “Son, sit here. We haven’t seen each other in over a decade. Let’s have a proper chat.”

“Are you sick in the head?” Chi Suinian asked in a low voice.

“What… what did you say?” Chi Kaidong couldn’t believe what he heard.

“If you’re ill, get treated. Don’t come here putting on this fake father-son act.” Chi Suinian pulled out a chair, sat down, and crossed his legs. “If you’ve got something to say, spit it out. I’m busy.”

“Chi Suinian!” Chi Mingyao slammed the table, furious. “Is that how you talk to your father? Where are your manners?”

“You know exactly what kind of manners I have, Uncle,” Chi Suinian said flatly, giving him a cold glance. “Or are you upset I’m not paying enough attention to you? Feeling left out?”

“Then maybe get your head checked. The sooner the better.”

Chi Mingyao’s face turned red. “You—”

Chi Kaidong stopped him, his eyes no longer warm as he looked back at Suinian. “How did you turn into this?”

“What’s it to you?” Chi Suinian replied coldly. “If you’ve got nothing useful to say, get out of my sight.”

“I’m a shareholder at Chihao. You have no right to kick me out. Besides, I’m here today to officially join the company,” said Chi Kaidong.

“Oh, the security booth at the entrance is still hiring. Why don’t you go report there?” Chi Suinian replied.

“Chi Suinian!” Chi Mingyao was trembling with rage, pointing a finger at him. “Are you even human? Is this how you treat the man who gave you life and raised you?”

“Father,” Chi Suinian sneered. “He doesn’t deserve the title.”

Chi Kaidong’s face darkened. He’d expected Suinian to be angry, even lash out—but not to completely humiliate him without mercy.

It made even this veteran schemer feel humiliated.

He remembered how obedient Suinian had been as a child. No matter how he beat or scolded him, the boy just took it. How could he have changed so completely? If not for his resemblance to his mother, Chi Kaidong would’ve suspected that Qin Suitian had found a fake to deceive him.

“Suinian…”

“Don’t fucking call me that,” Suinian growled. “You think you have the right?”

Chi Kaidong stiffened. “Must you talk to your father like this?”

The man kept saying “father” and “dad”—Chi Suinian was getting more and more irritated.

“You don’t understand human language? I said get out!”

“He’s gone mad…” Chi Mingyao was livid. “You’re insane! Ungrateful brat. Your father should’ve never had you—should’ve let you die with that cursed woman you call a mother!”

Qin Suitian’s heart skipped a beat. That’s it.

Sure enough, Chi Suinian’s face turned ice-cold.

“Suinian—”

Before Qin Suitian could stop him, a teacup flew across the room.

Clang!

It smashed beside Chi Kaidong, scalding hot tea splashing all over him.

“You—”

“If you say one more word, next time I’m not aiming for the floor,” Chi Suinian said, voice frigid.

Chi Mingyao opened his mouth but was cowed by the dangerous aura radiating from the young man. He scoffed and sat back down.

“And you?” Chi Suinian turned to Chi Kaidong. “Want some tea too?”

Chi Kaidong stared in shock. The once pitiful, obedient child had turned into a porcupine with thorns in every direction. He didn’t even know how to deal with this version of his son.

“Well, since everyone’s in a bad mood today, let’s talk another time,” Chi Kaidong said, getting up. “At the next Chihao shareholders’ meeting, I’ll officially join the company. Then, I’ll help you manage the company properly…”

Chi Suinian’s patience had run out. He stormed out and slammed the door.

Qin Suitian left silently behind him.

Inside, Chi Mingyao grumbled, “I told you, you’re too soft on that little bastard. If it were me, I’d have brought a lawyer and made him hand over the inheritance. But you—no, you had to cling to your precious father-son bond. Now look—he’s publicly humiliated you!”

Chi Kaidong’s eyes were dark as he gave a chilling yet gentle smile.

“He’s still my son. I know him best. It’s not time to force things yet. But even if it comes to that…” His eyes narrowed. “I’ll make sure he lies down and obeys.”
