Chapter 31: Late-Night Snack

At ten o’clock at night, the September challenge matches finally came to an end.

After the doubles match, no one else came to challenge Qin Luzhi and his partner. After all, who would have thought that Shen Bumian, who seemed like just a pretty face, would be so strong?

Once that match was over, Shen Bumian sat back down next to Zhou Yizhou to watch the other competitions. Qin Luzhi also very naturally followed and sat down beside Shen Bumian.

As soon as Shen Bumian sat down, Zhou Yizhou handed him a bottled drink with a straw already in it.

These were some small snacks Chen Hebin had prepared for Zhou Yizhou in case he got bored watching the matches.

Having been there for two hours, Shen Bumian was indeed a bit thirsty, so he took it and drank a few sips.

Qin Luzhi glanced at Shen Bumian’s slightly sunken cheeks, thinking to himself that he had been careless again.

He had forgotten that Shen Bumian was an omega and might get hungry or thirsty participating in the challenge matches.

Yet, he hadn’t prepared anything. He silently made a mental note of this point; being with an omega was different.

Zhou Yizhou kneaded Shen Bumian’s shoulders. “Mianmian, you were so amazing! Just as impressive as ever! I love you to death.”

Chen Hebin chimed in from the side, agreeing with Zhou Yizhou, “Sister-in-law is truly incredible. To even have the upper hand in close combat, it was a real eye-opener!”

Shen Bumian took a few more sips of the drink, no longer as thirsty. “It’s still that Qin Luzhi’s ability is too strong. The opponents had no power to fight back at all.”

Being praised like this by Shen Bumian, Qin Luzhi felt an inexplicable flutter of joy in his heart, though he showed no sign of it on his face.

He Jing also sidled up to Shen Bumian, dying of curiosity. “Sister-in-law, you…”

Shen Bumian waited for him to ask. “What do you want to ask?”

“It’s you, that ability, what’s the deal with it?”

This was something everyone else was very curious about too. They had seen it during the match.

The opponents’ abilities had been ineffective against Shen Bumian, but Shen Bumian didn’t have an ability!

Shen Bumian already knew that others would surely be curious about this. “Oh, that. My ability awakened later than most people’s. By then, I had already differentiated into an omega but still didn’t have an ability, so when I registered my information, I put down that I had no ability. Later on, I was too lazy to change it.”

Shen Bumian wasn’t lying. He indeed didn’t differentiate and awaken at the same time, and he was, in fact, too lazy to change his information.

The matter was thus settled. Everyone believed Shen Bumian’s explanation and just added a new label to him: lazy.

Shen Bumian himself didn’t react.

The group watched a few more matches until it was finally ten o’clock. The challenge matches ended on time, and everyone began to leave the challenge hall one after another.

Qin Luzhi asked Shen Bumian if he was hungry and if he wanted to get a late-night snack.

Shen Bumian thought about it. He was a little sleepy, and although he was a bit hungry, it wouldn’t affect his sleep, so he shook his head and declined.

Qin Luzhi and his friends walked the two omegas to the entrance of their dormitory building before leaving.

On the way back to the Alpha dormitory, Qin Luzhi said he had something to take care of and would be back later. The others didn’t think much of it and left first.

Qin Luzhi went to the food street behind the military academy. The neon lights were dim, and at the end of the small street was a scene of lively human activity.

He opened his star-net and searched for Shen Bumian’s preferences, but the results were identical to the file he had received at the beginning of the school year.

Qin Luzhi remained skeptical about this, so he simply closed the star-net and decided to just walk around.

“Second Young Master Qin? Are you searching for Shen Bumian’s preferences?”

A clear, gentle voice spoke up. The person who had arrived was none other than Xu Nanxun, who had come out to get something to eat because he was hungry.

As he passed by an Alpha, he smelled a familiar scent—it was Shen Bumian’s pheromones.

He stopped in his tracks, only to see an unexpected person.

Qin Luzhi glanced sideways at the omega, who was much shorter than him, somewhat displeased by his act of peeking at his personal terminal.

He frowned, and just as he was about to say something, he heard the other speak again.

“Pan-fried buns. Shen Bumian likes to eat pan-fried buns.”

Xu Nanxun spoke reluctantly. It was something he had discovered by chance.

Once, he had seen Shen Bumian’s family driver buying pan-fried buns for him, while Shen Bumian waited at the street corner with a look of eager anticipation.

Qin Luzhi scanned the omega before him from top to bottom, as if trying to judge how much truth there was in his words.

Xu Nanxun understood his look and stomped his foot in exasperation. “Hmph, believe it or not. Let him starve for all I care.”

After he finished speaking, he walked away with his hands on his hips. He was already full from anger. What kind of person dared to question his words?

Back in his dorm, Xu Nanxun listened to his stomach rumbling and felt a little regretful.

Meanwhile, Qin Luzhi was completely bewildered; he hadn’t even said anything yet. Thinking about the person’s reaction, he figured he probably wasn’t lying.

So, he bought a serving of thumb-sized pan-fried buns. He stared at the buns, which were really just a little bigger than his thumb, and fell into deep thought. Could this actually fill someone up?

“Boss, two more large portions, please.”

Two portions for Shen Bumian, and the remaining one for Zhou Yizhou. After all, Zhou Yizhou had already eaten a lot of snacks and probably wasn’t very hungry.

Returning with his hands full, Qin Luzhi carried two bags and once again arrived at the omega dormitory. He walked straight to the manager’s window.

“Hello, could you deliver this to O610?”

The manager was a female omega, very easy to talk to and enthusiastic. Seeing Qin Luzhi now, she asked with a grin.

“Oh, young man, sending a late-night snack to your boyfriend?”

Qin Luzhi was taken aback. “He’s not my boyfriend.”

“Then you’re pursuing him? Aww, such a thoughtful young man. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely get it to him for you.”

Qin Luzhi didn’t argue further, only said “thank you” and left. If he chatted any longer, Shen Bumian would probably be asleep.

When the dorm room door was knocked on, Shen Bumian had just gotten out of the shower and was drying his hair with a towel. When he opened the door and saw the dorm manager, he thought something was wrong.

But then the manager placed two bags in his hands, muttering all the while.

“Here you go. It’s from your pursuer, and a very tall and handsome Alpha at that. A lot of people on the first floor were sneaking peeks at him! You have to hold on tight, don’t let someone else snatch him away. Of course, don’t agree to him too easily either, lest he doesn’t cherish what he gets too easily.”

She looked at the beautiful and fragile Shen Bumian, her heart moved.

The moment she saw him, she couldn’t help but chatter on for a few more sentences, speaking to Shen Bumian from the heart like an experienced elder.

After she finished, she left without giving Shen Bumian a chance to react.

Shen Bumian stared at the manager who came and went like the wind, standing bewildered at his doorway for a good while. What pursuer? What not cherishing?

Closing the door, he placed the bags on the table and opened them. The aroma was instantly released, and his taste bud radar activated. He felt a little hungry again.

Zhou Yizhou, drawn by the smell, came over. Seeing the pan-fried buns on the table, his eyes lit up with delight.

“Wow, Mianmian, who sent this so late?” He knew that Shen Bumian would definitely not overcome his laziness to go out and buy something this late, so it must have been sent by someone else.

Zhou Yizhou teased, “Which pursuer is it this time?”

Shen Bumian had a faint guess in his heart. He picked one up and stuffed it into Zhou Yizhou’s mouth. “Eat yours and be quiet.”

After speaking, he opened his personal terminal, tapped on the chat with Qin Luzhi, and sent a message.

【Shen: Did you buy the pan-fried buns? 】

The reply was instantaneous. Qin Luzhi had just returned to his dorm when his terminal vibrated twice.

【Qin: Yes. I didn’t know what you eat. I ran into an omega who said you like this. 】

【Shen: What if that person lied to you and I don’t like it? That would be a waste of money. 】

There was no reply from the other side for a while. Shen Bumian waited for a few minutes before Qin Luzhi finally sent a sentence.

【Qin: Then you can give it to someone else to eat. Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll go buy it again. 】

Shen Bumian was stunned for a long time. He could almost picture Qin Luzhi frowning and lowering his head after he asked that question, struggling to figure out how to solve the problem.

The image inexplicably tickled Shen Bumian’s funny bone.

Zhou Yizhou ate several in one go and saw Shen Bumian suddenly smile as he was eating. “Huh? Mianmian? What are you smiling about?”

Shen Bumian put away his terminal, didn’t reply to Qin Luzhi, and continued eating the next bun. “Nothing. Hurry up and finish so we can brush our teeth.”

Zhou Yizhou didn’t ask again. On the other side, Qin Luzhi waited for a while. When Shen Bumian didn’t reply, he guessed that he probably liked it.

Mu Yi came out after his shower and saw Qin Luzhi sitting on a chair, lost in thought. “Boss? Aren’t you going to wash up? It’s almost lights out.”

Only then did Qin Luzhi take his terminal and go back to his own room, finding a set of pajamas to go take a shower.

While showering, he could still smell a faint, lingering scent of roses on his collar. The hand taking off his clothes paused.

His thoughts drifted. His relationship with Shen Bumian should be a little better now, right? He probably doesn’t hold a grudge anymore, right?
