Chapter 32: Private fight?
When Shen Bumian woke up the next day, his back was sore and his limbs felt a little weak.
He felt hopeless about his military academy career. With his current physique, how was he going to handle the upcoming training?
On the way to class with Zhou Yizhou, he could feel more eyes on him than usual. Apparently, Zhou Yizhou had also sensed this change.
He leaned in mysteriously to Shen Bumian’s ear, “Guess why everyone is looking at you like this?”
Shen Bumian ventured a guess, “Because of yesterday’s challenge match? My ability?”
Receiving a reproachful look from Zhou Yizhou, Shen Bumian calmly retracted his previous guess and tried again, “Zhouzhou, I can’t guess. Can you tell me?”
Zhou Yizhou looked up at the sky. This was the only annoying thing about Shen Bumian; he always guessed what he was about to say.
“Fine, I’ll tell you. The video of yesterday’s match was posted on the forum. Now a lot of people know that other people’s abilities don’t work on you, and they’re guessing you’re immune to abilities.”
Someone immune to all abilities had never appeared before. For someone so similar to suddenly emerge, it was hard not to overthink it.
The forum was abuzz with various opinions. Shen Bumian casually scrolled through, discovering that while everyone was surprised, they were generally speaking in his favor.
【Shen Meiren has an ability! And it’s suspected to be ability immunity, how awesome! This is a case of ‘silent until it’s time to be sensational,’ right? 】
【Damn, what does this mean? I mean, I mean, he’s no longer a useless beauty, but an all-powerful beauty! 】
…
Shen Bumian skimmed through, and many of the comments were like this.
Perhaps it was the innate protective instinct Alphas have for omegas, coupled with his beautiful appearance, that most people sided with him most of the time.
Of course, there were some other voices.
For instance, some were curious if he was truly immune to all abilities. Some questioned that he wasn’t immune, and even if he had an ability, it was a useless low-level one.
Then there were those who accused him for deliberately hiding his ability to maintain a delicate and weak persona.
Shen Bumian didn’t care about the outside world’s evaluation of him. Otherwise, he would have had the Shen family resolve it long ago, and he wouldn’t have generated so much buzz every time.
“Shen Bumian, watch out!”
Before Shen Bumian could even turn his head, he was pulled into a cold embrace with a faint scent of mint, which was strangely comforting.
Through the military academy uniform, he could almost feel the other person’s heart beating violently, and hot breath swept past the side of his face.
Being pulled so suddenly, Shen Bumian felt the other person’s distinctly hot breath and unconsciously gripped Qin Luzhi’s clothes tightly.
Qin Luzhi thought he was frightened, and his face darkened, his eyes filled with ice.
Zhou Yizhou came to his senses at that moment and hurriedly asked if Shen Bumian was okay. Only then did Shen Bumian seem to snap out of it and step out of the embrace.
Beside Shen Bumian’s feet, a dozen ice spikes were embedded diagonally into the floor, their ends still emitting a cold mist that dissipated after a moment.
The person who had attacked met Qin Luzhi’s icy gaze and instantly froze on the spot. The pressure from a top-tier Alpha made him unable to move, his legs instinctively weakening.
He stammered, his tone carrying an unconscious tremor, “I just wanted to test if he was immune to all abilities. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
The crowd seemed to react just then, looking in shock at the person who had used an ability to attack Shen Bumian.
Private fights are forbidden at the military academy; this was a clear violation of school rules.
Moreover, they stole a glance at Qin Luzhi’s expression—it was obvious he was angry.
Shen Bumian stopped Qin Luzhi’s movement and looked coldly at the person. Although he wasn’t injured or scared, he was very annoyed.
If you wanted a test, you should go to the challenge hall and have a proper fight, not launch a sneak attack here.
Didn’t he want to see his ability? He’d show him.
Shen Bumian raised his right hand, a green ball of light appearing in his palm. The person hadn’t realized what was happening yet, staring blankly at Shen Bumian’s hand.
Suddenly, several vines shot out from the small woods behind, grabbing the person’s legs, pulling him to the ground, and dragging him for a distance into the woods, leaving a trail on the grass.
Then Shen Bumian withdrew the vines. The person scrambled up, wanting to retaliate, but the green light in Shen Bumian’s palm had already turned crimson red.
Twist the Universe—the ability the opponent launched at him would now be turned back on the launcher.
The man sobered up abruptly and fled in all directions, dodging his own ice spikes. After surviving that wave of attacks, he felt a bit drained.
But Shen Bumian didn’t let him go. A blue circle of light appeared next.
A C-level ability, Non-Mist.
This was just a low-level ability Shen Bumian used for a small punishment. A dark cloud instantly appeared over the person’s head.
Rain poured down, sometimes a downpour, sometimes a drizzle. A layer of mist seemed to cover his eyes, and he couldn’t see anything clearly.
The man waved his hand in front of his face, but it had no effect.
Then he heard Shen Bumian’s emotionless voice, nothing like the gentle person described on the internet.
“C-level ability, duration of two hours. Once activated, it cannot be withdrawn. Sorry, but you’ll have to bear with it for these two hours.”
Snickers rippled through the crowd. The person’s face turned beet red, but it was hidden by the mist, so no one saw his utter humiliation.
“Oh, by the way, I’m an all-ability user. If you don’t believe me, see you in the challenge hall. Don’t bother me at other times.”
As soon as these words were spoken, the surroundings instantly fell silent. Everyone looked at Shen Bumian in disbelief, except for Zhou Yizhou.
The attacker was now furious but dared not speak, afraid that if Shen Bumian was displeased, he would unleash all of his abilities on him at once.
He now believed that Shen Bumian was truly capable of doing such a thing.
“Ahem.”
Someone in the crowd wanted to signal that a teacher was coming, but was immediately silenced by a sharp glare.
Gu Yixi strolled into the crowd. “Yo, so lively! Why wasn’t I included?”
Who knows how long he had been watching.
Shen Bumian’s back stiffened. How did he also end up in a private fight? And get caught in the act? It was all that person’s fault for having no fighting ethics!
He turned to Gu Yixi and lowered his head, obediently admitting his mistake. “Teacher Gu, I’m sorry. Please punish me.”
Qin Luzhi stepped in front of Shen Bumian, blocking Gu Yixi’s scrutinizing gaze, and shot his own father a look.
The meaning was clear, blatantly written all over his face: The other person started it.
Gu Yixi’s heart skipped a beat. He hadn’t even said anything and this one was already being protective? Are you so eager when you haven’t even figured out your own heart? Heh, he was going to punish them anyway.
“Private fights are not allowed in the school. Since student Shen Bumian fought back, it also counts as a private fight, so neither of you can escape. How about this: that student over there will be punished by sweeping the teaching building for a week, and both of you will write a self-criticism essay and hand it in. Any objections?”
Everyone shook their heads vigorously. No objections, they didn’t dare have any objections. You call the shots.
Shen Bumian hadn’t expected it to be a self-criticism essay. He had never written one before; he didn’t know how. He would rather be punished with sweeping.
Gu Yixi dispersed the crowd. “Alright, alright, everyone go to class. Don’t block the way here.”
Shen Bumian and Zhou Yizhou also had to go to class, so they said their goodbyes and left. Qin Luzhi was held back by Gu Yixi.
He stared intently at his son’s expressionless face. “What did you just do?”
Qin Luzhi averted his gaze, not speaking.
Gu Yixi laughed in exasperation. “You’ve even learned to use dirty tricks? Did you think I didn’t see you use your Misfortune Transfer ability just now? Transferring a month’s worth of bad luck from everyone here onto that person?”
Seeing that he had been exposed, Qin Luzhi didn’t hide it, simply nodding and admitting to his actions. “Yes.”
Gu Yixi glared at him, “Hmph! You dare say ‘Yes’ to me! Does Mianmian know you’re this black-hearted?”
Only then did Qin Luzhi glance at him, as if to say, what does this have to do with Shen Bumian?
Gu Yixi rolled his eyes. He was still the same son he knew; the parts that should have clicked still hadn’t. He didn’t want to deal with it anymore. “I’m done talking to you. Go to class!”
Qin Luzhi glanced at the classroom where Shen Bumian was. “I don’t have a class, and neither do you.”
Gu Yixi: …
Suddenly, thinking about Shen Bumian’s series of actions just now, he remarked to Qin Luzhi with a sigh, “I didn’t expect my daughter-in-law to have such a personality. He generally doesn’t hold grudges, because he gets his revenge on the spot. That’s great. In the future, you won’t have to constantly guess whether he’s angry or not.”
Then he watched as his son, who had no class, walked towards Shen Bumian’s classroom without giving him a second thought, leaving his own old dad to stand there, disheveled in the wind.
Gu Yixi felt that although Qin Luzhi hadn’t seemed to say or do much, he was somehow infuriating. This son was becoming unbearable. He should just pack him up and send him off to the Shen family!
