Still… add more fuel to the fire?
Rong Guang held her breath, a blush spreading from the tips of her ears to her neck. She said shyly, “Do we really have to add more?”
Chu Feiliang had originally just wanted to tease her and stop while she was ahead.
But seeing Rong Guang’s current state, she didn’t want to stop anymore.
“What do you think?” she asked in return.
Rong Guang stole a glance at her, stammered a bit, then lowered her gaze and said, “I… think it’s okay.”
If they added more fuel to the fire, she was afraid Chu Feiliang would burn her to ashes.
This… who could possibly stand it?
But the opportunity was right in front of her… It would be a waste not to take it.
Chu Feiliang’s lips curved into a smile. “In that case, that’s for the best.”
“Sister Ruyi…” The assistant stood trembling two steps away from Jiang Ruyi, her upper body bowed as she said cautiously, “I… I asked. The director’s side said that Teacher Chu and Teacher Rong are in good form tonight, so… so…”
“So what?!” Jiang Ruyi’s hand, which was applying foundation to her face, paused. She was furious, her voice seeming to be squeezed through her teeth.
The assistant braced herself and finished her sentence, “So there are no scenes for us today. The assistant director said to wait for arrangements…”
“Wait for arrangements?” Jiang Ruyi pressed the powder puff into its case, snapped the lid shut with a ‘thwack,’ and angrily threw it onto the makeup table. “You tell me! How long have I been waiting, huh? From seven in the morning until now! I’ve been on standby here under the hot sun ever since my makeup was done! Even if it was by turns, it should be my turn by now, right?!”
The assistant meekly agreed, bowing her head and obediently taking the scolding without a single word of rebuttal.
After scolding for a while, Jiang Ruyi was fuming but could do nothing to solve the problem. Suppressing her anger, she gathered her things from the table and said, “Let’s go! What are we still waiting here for? I don’t know what I pay you so much for every month! You have no perceptiveness at all. I’m clearly the special guest star, is this how a special guest star is supposed to be treated?!”
The assistant followed behind, carrying her bag and fanning her. “Sister Ruyi, please calm down…”
Out of Jiang Ruyi’s sight, she rolled her eyes.
However, after getting into the car and seeing a message on her phone, her movements paused, and her grip on the phone tightened.
A knock sounded on the door.
The assistant glanced at the bathroom door, then got up and went to the entrance.
The person at the door was Mao Xiaosong.
“Lele.” Mao Xiaosong smiled when he saw her. “Is Ruyi in?”
Zhao Xiaole nodded and said, “Teacher Jiang is in the shower. Do you need something?”
“In the shower…” Mao Xiaosong paused, having already slipped into the room while they were talking. He said with a smile, “Then I’ll wait for her.”
Zhao Xiaole said “oh,” glanced at the thing in Mao Xiaosong’s hand, and squeezed her own pocket. The phone was scorching hot against the skin of her thigh.
After a moment, she said, “I’m going to get Sister Ruyi something to eat. You can sit here.”
With that, Zhao Xiaole closed the door.
Her back was to the door, one hand still on the doorknob, but she let out a cold sneer.
After finishing work, Rong Guang once again hitched a ride back in Chu Feiliang’s car.
They had filmed a total of eight scenes today. It wasn’t a lot, but it wasn’t a small number either.
Generally speaking, if an actor was in good form, the director was cooperative, all departments were on schedule, and there were no equipment issues, an actor could typically film around twelve scenes a day.
In her past life, Rong Guang had once juggled auditions for several different crews. Although they were all for insignificant minor roles, she had once filmed more than twenty scenes in a single day, from morning to night.
Relying on this, Rong Guang had managed to become a familiar face in her past life, and she had truly honed her acting skills from the ground up.
“Tired?” Chu Feiliang asked, seeing Rong Guang’s head resting against the car window, her eyes staring unfocused into the darkness outside.
She had also been busy all day, and her scenes were more numerous than Rong Guang’s. What she had to express was even more demanding, all of it being particularly draining internal scenes. As a result, her voice sounded a little hoarse, yet it carried a hint of slow, languid laziness.
When Rong Guang heard Chu Feiliang’s voice, she couldn’t help but straighten her back. She shook her head and said, “I’m not tired. My scene count is much lower than yours, and many of my parts were easy ones. I can’t compare to you.”
Chu Feiliang smiled and took a sip of warm water. “Even though there were many scenes, I got through them quickly, so it was nothing.”
Her main scenes were basically always done within three takes, and in most cases, she passed in a single take.
Rong Guang said earnestly, “That’s still very hard work. No one’s acting skills are innate; they are slowly honed through countless attempts under the eyes of the director, the audience, and the camera. Passing in one take means you’re amazing, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t hard work.”
Watching Rong Guang speak so earnestly and resolutely in her defense, Chu Feiliang felt, for some reason, as if a kitten’s paw had scratched the tip of her heart—a little painful, yet mixed with a much stronger, indescribable tickle.
She smiled and shook her head, saying, “Alright, it’s hard work. You’ve worked hard too. Go back and get to sleep early. After pulling an all-nighter, if you don’t sleep well…”
The car swayed slightly as it braked. Chu Feiliang’s hand gestured about, unable to stay still, so she simply stood up, placed her hand on Rong Guang’s head, and said, “you won’t be able to grow taller.”
Rong Guang nodded, her face red. “I know.”
She wasn’t addicted to the internet, nor did she enjoy surfing online. Even for games, the ones she played most were single-player games like Carrot Fantasy and Plants vs. Zombies—puzzles that could pass the time.
So at night, she would usually go to sleep right after checking her messages, and her sleep quality had always been exceptionally good.
Drink more milk, sleep early and wake up early… she should be able to grow taller.
Rong Guang’s eyes curved into a smile. Looking at Chu Feiliang, who was nearly half a head taller than her, she couldn’t help but stand on her tiptoes again.
Chu Feiliang’s room was on the top floor. The elevator was fast, and in less than two minutes, with a ‘ding,’ Rong Guang had arrived.
She exited the elevator, a little reluctant to leave, and looked wistfully at Chu Feiliang leaning lazily against the elevator wall. “Um… Sister, see you tomorrow.”
Hearing this form of address, Chu Feiliang was delighted.
The fatigue on her face was swept away. She smiled, her eyes crinkling, and lifted her chin. “See you tomorrow.”
“You’ll see her tomorrow.” Chacha let out a huge yawn, so sleepy she was seeing stars. “Don’t miss her too much, Sister Guangguang.”
Rong Guang ruffled Chacha’s hair, handed her the things she was carrying, and opened the door to their room.
After entering the room, Chacha, as usual, first scanned the surroundings, like a little puppy inspecting its territory to confirm there were no intruders.
The door didn’t swing back automatically. It seemed to be stuck on something and was a bit hard to pull.
Chacha finished her inspection, satisfied, then set down her things and walked toward the door.
A piece of paper, folded into the shape of an envelope, was wedged in the gap between the door and the floor. That was what was jamming the door.
Chacha squatted by the door, not moving.
Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway, along with a man humming an out-of-tune song.
The sound grew closer, and Chacha looked up.
Mao Xiaosong had already walked past, but for some reason, he turned back, walked up to Chacha, and kicked her with his foot.
Chacha had been squatting for a while, and her leg had gone numb, so she couldn’t keep her balance. The kick sent her stumbling backward.
As luck would have it, Chacha’s head slammed right into the doorframe. Instantly, she let out a cry of pain, accompanied by a dull thud.
Mao Xiaosong had just wanted to be a jerk and hadn’t expected to actually knock someone over. He froze for a moment.
Rong Guang heard the noise and paused. “Chacha?”
Chacha clutched her head, enduring the pain, her eyes filling with tears.
Her head hurt so much that if she spoke, she would start crying.
Hearing no reply from Chacha, Rong Guang didn’t even have time to put down the things in her hand before she rushed out the door.
In an instant, she saw Mao Xiaosong with his hands in his pockets, and a pitifully curled-up Chacha, holding her head.
In that instant, Rong Guang felt her mind explode with a ‘buzz’!
She gripped the pillow towel in her hand tightly, took a few steps forward, and knelt to check Chacha’s injury. She felt a damp patch, and when she pulled her hand away, it was covered in blood.
Rong Guang’s breath caught for a moment, and her heart sank into her stomach.
Mao Xiaosong was dumbfounded too.
He had only given her a light kick, how did her head get split open?!
“Fuck, this has nothing to do with me, she herself—” Mao Xiaosong took two panicked steps back.
“Shut your mouth.” Rong Guang shot him a deadpan glance. Her hands and feet were trembling slightly, and she didn’t know how badly Chacha was hurt. She asked nervously, “Chacha, how are you? Can you talk? Don’t scare me…”
“I think I’m okay,” Chacha gradually released her hands, her eyes red. “But it hurts so much, Sister Guangguang.”
Chacha leaned her head affectionately on Rong Guang’s shoulder, wiping all her tears away.
Rong Guang’s suspended heart returned to her stomach. She took out her phone, intending to call the crew’s doctor to come up and take a look.
The moment Mao Xiaosong saw Rong Guang take out her phone, he completely blanked. Faster than his rational mind could react, he instinctively snatched the phone from her, saying in a panic, “What are you trying to do? It’s just a little scrape—”
Rong Guang slowly released her hold on Chacha. Her face was grim, her lips twitched, but she couldn’t pull even a hint of a smile. She held out her hand and said, “Give me back my phone.”
Mao Xiaosong refused. He took a step forward, spat on the ground with a look of disgust, and said, “Let’s settle this privately today. How much money do you want? Two thousand, three… Ah—!!”
Before Mao Xiaosong could finish his sentence, he was sent flying by Rong Guang’s kick!
Rong Guang had put her full force into this kick. Coupled with the martial arts she had learned since childhood, her legs were very strong. Mao Xiaosong’s skinny beanpole of a body, unaccustomed to physical exertion, couldn’t withstand her kick at all!
He was kicked backward, eventually crashing into a door before collapsing to the ground, clutching his stomach and letting out groans as if he were dying.
After kicking him, Rong Guang walked over, intending to add a few more kicks. But just as she lifted her foot, she narrowed her eyes, remembered the security camera in the corner of the hallway, and put her foot back down completely.
“I told you earlier to give me the phone.” Rong Guang picked up her phone, which had fallen to the side, and glanced expressionlessly at Mao Xiaosong, whose neck and face were flushed red with pain. She curled her lip.
She turned back, dialing her phone as she intended to return to Chacha’s side.
However, when she looked up, she saw Chu Feiliang standing at the end of the hallway, leaning against the corner wall in a rather leisurely posture, an eyebrow raised as she watched the scene. And next to her was her assistant, who was helping Chacha check her wound and stop the bleeding.
Rong Guang’s mouth fell open. Her composure shattered.
How much… had Chu Feiliang just seen?!
