ISWMQ – Chapter 49

In the end, Chacha summarized a set of principles for herself.

One must be vigilant against others, but must not harbor intentions to harm others.

To achieve great things, one must be down-to-earth and take it step by step, without taking shortcuts or always thinking about scheming against others to get ahead.

So Chacha shared this principle with Ye Zi.

Ye Zi also found it very reasonable and said to Chacha with great seriousness, “I once participated in a scientific research project discussion where one person took a shortcut. He took the academic results of a classmate from the same group and passed them off as his own. When the truth came out, he couldn’t explain many of the modeling operations and collage concepts, and he was exposed on the spot!”

“Was there a punishment?!” Chacha’s eyes lit up with curiosity.

“Of course there was!” Ye Zi nodded and said, “He was punished with a two-year delay in graduation, and every paper he submitted had to be verified by a panel of experts. It was miserable!”

“Wow, that’s really miserable,” Chacha said with a sigh. “Is it like when we hand in our dictation tests, which are usually graded by the class monitor, but his had to be personally approved by the teacher?”

“Not just that.” Ye Zi looked sympathetic. “Sometimes it was graded while he was present—he’d get scolded for every single mistake. All he reviewed were basic theoretical concepts, which weren’t very helpful but were extremely time-consuming.”

Chacha nodded, “Like when I was punished by having to copy the alphabet…”

Ye Zi and Chacha looked at each other, their faces filled with solemn pain. They raised their lollipops in unison and observed three seconds of silence for the unnamed cannon fodder.

The two little ones huddled together, heads touching as they chatted, had already become a common sight on the set.

Many people, when passing by, would ask what the two of them were talking about and join in for a few words, just to pass the time.

Coupled with the maliciousness of the previous incident with Mao Xiaosong, Chacha had even found a blessing in disguise. Due to her young age, she, along with Rong Guang, received extremely friendly treatment from the entire crew. Everyone would carry some snacks with them and share with the two whenever they saw them.

At this moment, Rong Guang was having her wire harness adjusted by the staff.

She was about to go up to the roof to film a few aerial fight scenes.

She had always been a workaholic in her past life, rarely using a stunt double if she could do it herself. In fact, many stunt doubles’ moves weren’t as precise as hers—besides, she was just a minor supporting character now, where would she get so many stunt doubles to use?

The staff member gave the rope a final tug, and two people pulled on their respective ropes to test it.

Rong Guang was so light that the two of them pulling made her whole body jump up. She couldn’t help but laugh along with the two staff members.

“Teacher Rong, you should really eat more. With this harness on you, we don’t even need to deliberately adjust the weight; you won’t fall anyway,” the person on the left said with a laugh.

Rong Guang nodded helplessly. “Yes, I’ve been trying to gain weight recently.”

Once the adjustments were complete, the two staff members stepped aside. Rong Guang moved around a bit, then gave the director an ‘OK’ sign.

Just then, Chacha ran over, holding her phone.

Rong Guang subconsciously reached out to take it, thinking it was an important call.

But Chacha said, “Guangguang, Sister Chu said her phone suddenly died. The battery just went dead for some reason. Sister Lulu went to get her spare phone, but she won’t be back for a little while. She asked me to come and ask if she could use your phone to browse the internet for a bit?”

Rong Guang agreed immediately, saying, “Of course.”

So Chacha ran back, holding the phone.

Rong Guang’s eyes curved as she saw Chu Feiliang raise a hand and wave at her from a distance.

She smiled back, her eyes crinkling. However, her gaze suddenly fell on a nearby crew member who, because of the heat, had rolled his shirt up to his armpits. She suddenly remembered something, and her eyes widened in an instant of panic.

Her wallpaper…

But the phone was already in Chu Feiliang’s hands, Rong Guang was already on the roof, and Chacha was eagerly joining Chu Feiliang to surf the internet.

She had no chance to rush over to Chu Feiliang and get her phone back.

Rong Guang took a deep breath… Maybe she could… confess and hope for leniency later?

Because Rong Guang had something on her mind, the fight scene was completed quickly. The entire scene was filmed to connect the events before and after the scene of Wen Mou’s death, which she had auditioned for previously.

The Princess’s residence was repeatedly attacked by assassins, each wave stronger than the last. And without exception, they were all suicide soldiers.

Once captured, they would immediately bite through the poison hidden under their tongues and commit suicide, giving them no opportunity for interrogation.

Although it was quick, the back-and-forth still took nearly two hours.

When Rong Guang came down, she was quite exhausted, her head covered in sweat, panting heavily. And yet, this scene might only be a few seconds of footage when edited in, before cutting to another location.

She squinted, looking up at the roof, which was now gleaming golden under the midday sun. She drank a few sips of water to soothe her throat, cleared it, and made her way over to Chu Feiliang.

When Chu Feiliang saw her approaching, she didn’t make any particular move.

Chacha, on the other hand, had an expression of someone watching a good show. She floated to a position about two meters away from Rong Guang and began to sigh with a “tsk tsk tsk,” muttering under her breath, “How tragic, how tragic, how tragic…”

A shiver ran down the back of Rong Guang’s neck. Steeling herself, she picked up the small stool she was sitting on, scooted closer to Chu Feiliang, and said, “Sister, what news are you looking at?”

“Nothing much. Just my daily web surfing, checking out recent social news,” Chu Feiliang said while refreshing the screen. With each refresh came the ‘ding ding ding ding’ of new message notifications. Her face was expressionless, showing no signs of joy or anger.

After a moment, Chu Feiliang said, “Your phone didn’t have Weibo, so I downloaded it myself from your app store. You don’t mind, do you?”

“I don’t mind.” Rong Guang shook her head repeatedly. “You can use my phone however you like.”

At her current age, her social network was simple. In the past, due to her round-the-clock dance practice, she barely even sent messages to friends; it was faster to just call if something came up.

Apart from some pre-installed software, her phone only had a few video apps. It was practically clean, with nothing on it.

Chu Feiliang nodded and smiled. “Is this a new phone?”

“No.” Rong Guang breathed a sigh of relief. “I’ve had it for over two years.”

“Over two years?” Chu Feiliang was a bit surprised now. She turned off the screen and examined the phone from side to side. There wasn’t even a scratch on the body. She said with a smile, “It really doesn’t look like it.”

Not only were there few apps on the phone, but even the internal storage was plentiful. The social app that took up the most space was WeChat, which she used for work, and even that occupied less than a gigabyte.

Rong Guang rubbed her nose and said, “I’m usually very busy… I don’t have much time to look at my phone.”

Chu Feiliang gave her a half-smiling look. “Very busy?”

Only then did Rong Guang realize that what she had just said was a bit off.

After all, next to Chu Feiliang, the industry’s famous ‘workaholic woman,’ how could she possibly claim to be too busy?

So she thought for a moment and said, “Dance practice is usually quite tiring. I just go to sleep after work. Other than watching videos, it doesn’t have much other use.”

“Uh-huh.” Chu Feiliang hummed lightly and refreshed the screen a couple more times, but no new messages appeared.

Presumably having finished reading everything, Chu Feiliang pressed the phone’s home button, returning to the home screen.

There were only four apps on the screen in total. A browser, a messaging app, WeChat, and a camera, all in the dock at the bottom.

At the very top was a semi-transparent widget for the weather and time, through which one could faintly see a part of the image hidden behind it—a black T-shirt being pulled up, the fabric stretched into a triangle, barely revealing the edge of an undergarment.

Higher up, the neck wasn’t visible, only reaching vaguely to the shoulder area.

And that widget just so happened to cover everything from the person’s chest up. Although the original image was also just a pure black shadow, this hazy layer made it seem even more ambiguous.

Further down, there were the faint, streamlined lines of abs, and the V-line, barely visible, hidden in the shadows at the very bottom.

The waist was slender, the skin delicate, and it possessed a perfect curve… no matter how you looked at it, it was a woman’s waist.

Chu Feiliang stared at it for a couple of seconds, focusing particularly on the black mole to the side of the person’s navel, and said coolly, “I didn’t realize the person you like has such a great body.”

Rong Guang had seen her waist more than once when they were changing clothes.

Her dressing room was very private. A while ago, when the weather was hot and the crew didn’t have the budget to install air conditioning, they made do with fans.

When it was hot, many people would just wear a sports top and shorts while resting in the dressing room, and Rong Guang was no exception.

So Chu Feiliang was very certain that Rong Guang did not have such a black mole on the side of her navel.

The person on the wallpaper could only be someone else.

Rong Guang took the phone, stunned by Chu Feiliang’s words.

Then, her face filled with suspicion and speculation, she asked cautiously, “Sister, you don’t know who she is?”

Chu Feiliang glanced at her, her gaze returning to the photo, then she dismissively touched her own stomach and said with a look of disdain, “Why would I care who she is?”

Rong Guang was now truly on the verge of bursting into laughter.

She had originally thought… she was about to be caught red-handed.

But the person in question had completely forgotten that she had ever taken such a picture.

But on second thought, it was hardly surprising.

Chu Feiliang had so many engagements all year round, with different poses and outfits every time. She couldn’t possibly remember every single photo she had seen, so it was perfectly normal for her to have forgotten this picture from years ago.

So Rong Guang cleared her throat, and after hesitating for less than a second between letting the mistake slide and confessing, she chose to confess.

—At least if she said it, Chu Feiliang would know that she liked her.

If she didn’t say it and let her be misunderstood, would she be happy that Chu Feiliang was… jealous?

It was jealousy, right?

But that would be too unfair to Chu Feiliang.

That sour feeling of being secretly jealous was really not pleasant.

So Rong Guang pulled up the original photo from her phone’s album and said, “Sister, I’m not using someone else’s picture as my wallpaper. I’m using yours.”

“Nonsense.” Chu Feiliang crossed her arms. “When did I…”

After she spoke, she paused, then frowned and said, “Is it really me?”

Rong Guang nodded like a chick pecking at rice, her face full of innocence. “It really is you—I went to a lot of trouble to ask the editor-in-chief at the time for this high-definition picture.”
