Chapter 36: Physical Fitness
After a full day of physical training, Shen Bumian was exhausted. He collapsed onto the ground, feeling completely drained.
He tilted his head back, leaning against a stone pillar on the training grounds, closing his eyes to catch his breath.
His mind flashed back to the conversation he’d had alone with the training instructor a short while ago. The instructor for their class was an S-class Alpha named Guan Zhuo.
Speaking of which, Instructor Guan was from the same class year as Qin Yang, and they had a very good relationship. They weren’t much older than the students.
Guan Zhuo let the students, who had been training for most of the day, rest where they were, but he called Shen Bumian aside.
During training, Guan Zhuo was a very strict person, but he was more casual when interacting with students on a daily basis.
At this moment, he was smiling, with a hint of a natural roguishness, which was somewhat similar to Qin Yang.
“Mianmian, is it okay if I call you that? I’ve heard Qin Yang mention you, and I paid extra attention to you during the entrance exam. Uncle Qin also told me to look out for you. How have you been feeling during these past few days of training?”
Shen Bumian didn’t mind the form of address, but he was a bit surprised that Qin Zui had actually spoken to the school.
However, Shen Bumian was very sharp at this moment; he knew that Guan Zhuo hadn’t called him over just for pleasantries.
“Instructor, is there something you want to talk to me about?”
He didn’t beat around the bush and asked Guan Zhuo directly. Seeing this, Guan Zhuo also got straight to the point. He raised an eyebrow slightly.
“I’ve seen your application materials. You want to join the Imperial Military Department in the future, is that right?”
Shen Bumian recalled his admission application; there was indeed such a thing. It wasn’t something he had filled in casually but was the result of careful consideration, perhaps influenced by Shen Ran.
He nodded and told Guan Zhuo with great resolve, “Yes, I want to join the Imperial Guard fleet.”
Guan Zhuo understood. He had actually guessed as much. Now, looking at the determined gaze of the omega before him, he was even more moved.
Thinking of Shen Bumian’s entrance exam report, he frowned again and became serious.
“Mianmian, you’ve seen your physical fitness report, right? You know that with those scores, you won’t be able to get into the fleet, don’t you?”
Thinking of this, Shen Bumian also felt a little dejected. He nodded, aware of his shortcomings in this area.
“Instructor, did you call me over to talk about physical training?”
Guan Zhuo nodded. He took out his terminal and pulled up Shen Bumian’s report, pointing at Shen Bumian’s barely passing scores with some regret.
“I’ve also observed your training state over the past half-month and found that your physical fitness indeed has some trouble keeping up. Right now, you either change your ambition, or I increase the intensity of your training.”
Indeed, it seemed Shen Bumian only had these two paths to choose from. Guan Zhuo continued, “But there is a genetic gap between omegas and Alphas. I don’t mean to discriminate, I mean to say that if you choose to increase the training intensity, you will definitely be more tired than everyone else. Plus, your body is naturally more…”
For a rare moment, Shen Bumian didn’t follow his usual well-mannered upbringing and interrupted Guan Zhuo’s words.
“Instructor, no matter how intense it is, I can persevere. I won’t complain about being tired. Since I chose the First Military Academy, I will not give up. Don’t worry, just increase the intensity for me.”
Shen Bumian was born with a weak constitution, something the Shen family discovered when he was very young.
So they began to search for effective medicinal herbs from various planets to strengthen his physique. Over time, it did have some effect, but not a significant one.
Shen Ran had always been training in order to get into the First Military Academy, and Shen Yi hadn’t been idle either, exercising frequently.
Shen Bumian would join them in their training. It was just that the two of them felt sorry for him and couldn’t bear to torment his body, so they would only train with him for a little while each time.
Without them, Shen Bumian would secretly go to the family’s underground training room to practice by himself.
Over so many years, there had been results. His fighting skills were excellent, he was very sharp, and his reaction speed was very fast…
It was just that his physical fitness remained the same as ever, so much so that he still only barely passed the entrance exam.
However, he didn’t feel that his efforts had been in vain. If it weren’t for the training he had done since childhood, his scores would have been even worse, not even reaching a passing grade.
After officially enrolling, he had already been planning to add extra training for himself. It was just that before he could start, Guan Zhuo had already approached him with this request. Perfect, Shen Bumian thought.
Guan Zhuo looked at the clear-eyed omega with red lips and white teeth before him, once again thinking to himself that Qin Yang and the others were right. Shen Bumian… was really different.
He had thought that with Shen Bumian’s family background, a little young master who grew up spoiled, a rare and delicate omega, would be very displeased with his proposal.
It would have been good enough if he hadn’t thrown a tantrum. What he least expected was that their ideas were aligned.
So, Shen Bumian showed his personal plan to Guan Zhuo. After Guan Zhuo finished reading it carefully, a faint light flashed in his eyes.
The plan was very detailed and highly targeted. He thought Shen Bumian must have been preparing it for some time.
He admired this unique omega even more, and his eyes filled with delight as he praised him without reservation.
“This is very well done. It looks like I don’t need to create an extra one for you. Just follow this for your additional training. Do you need me to find someone to train with you?”
Shen Bumian rejected the offer without a second thought. This was his own business; there was no need to drag others into it.
Besides, this additional training plan was tailored to him; it wouldn’t be useful to others. Pulling someone else in would require the instructor to create an extra plan for them, which might disrupt their original rhythm.
Guan Zhuo didn’t say anything more. He just gave Shen Bumian a meaningful glance as he told him to rejoin the group. Shen Bumian had already turned to go back and didn’t see this inexplicable look.
The instructor, watching his retreating back, closed Shen Bumian’s report file, sent a private message to a contact, and hid his good deed.
After class, everyone left. Zhou Yizhou had been hungry for a while.
Chen Hebin said he would treat him to a meal. He told Shen Bumian, who felt a bit gratified and, in turn, told Zhou Yizhou about his future additional training.
Zhou Yizhou’s eyes widened. “Mianmian, why don’t you join the military medical department with me in the future? I’m afraid your body won’t be able to handle this training intensity.”
Zhou Yizhou’s eyes were full of heartache. He and Shen Bumian had been together for so many years, and he knew that Shen Bumian trained day after day because of his weak constitution, with very little effect.
But every time he made a little progress, the smile in Shen Bumian’s eyes outshone a sky full of stars.
So Zhou Yizhou couldn’t bring himself to persuade Shen Bumian otherwise. But this time, he felt it was more grueling than ever before.
He still hoped that Shen Bumian wouldn’t have to be so tired. He was the little young master of the Shen family, after all.
Shen Bumian, however, shook his head. “It’s okay. I’m an ability user. An ability user’s body can improve along with their ability. I still have potential. After all, my ability is so powerful, isn’t it?”
Zhou Yizhou had no choice but to take back his words. He thought about training together with Shen Bumian but was ruthlessly shooed away.
Shen Bumian said something like, “Food is the most important thing in the world.” He himself wasn’t hungry yet, so he told Zhou Yizhou to go eat first.
Zhou Yizhou’s stomach was rumbling, so he had to go eat first, leaving Shen Bumian alone in the vast training ground.
He thought for a moment. Running, then. I’ll build up my endurance first, and then practice pheromone control at night.
