LPLFDA Chapter 9

Qin Xun was very worried that Feng Yuan might be sick. He himself had been sick before, and he knew well that the feeling of being ill was terrible.

“Uncle Li, can you get a doctor to take a look at him?”

“Mm.”

Li Sheng responded with a sound, then called over Assistant Gao and told him to find a doctor for Feng Yuan.

The moment Feng Yuan heard they were going to call a doctor, his little body, which had been lying down, instantly sat upright.

“Chirp.”

No doctor!

When Feng Yuan lived with his father on Huasheng Street, there was once an event at the community center there. The community doctors in white coats had gathered to give the children vaccinations, and his father took him to get one.

Before the shot was even finished, he was already tilting his little face upward, crying like a fountain.

From then on, he became very afraid of doctors and even more afraid of injections.

Hearing Feng Yuan’s chirping protests, Qin Xun’s heart ached, but he did not soften.

He coaxed the protesting little chick: “Yuan Yuan, once you see the doctor, you won’t feel uncomfortable anymore.”

Feng Yuan: “Chirp, chirp chirp!”

I already feel even worse now!

Feng Yuan didn’t want to see the doctor. Forcing himself up on his little body, he tried to escape from his father’s palm.

But naturally, Li Sheng wasn’t about to let him run away.

Soon, Assistant Gao, who was extremely efficient, invited over two doctors. One was the head of pediatrics, and the other was the director of a pet hospital.

Li Sheng handed the little chick out.

The little chick’s claws clung tightly to his large hand, his black bean–like eyes squeezed shut, looking exactly like a child who refused to face the scary doctors.

No matter how unwilling he was to face them, the two doctors still began examining him.

While the doctors asked questions, Li Sheng carefully recalled: “Around two in the morning last night, he ate porridge, steamed buns, and some vegetables. After that, he took a bath and went to sleep.”

“He slept a little longer than usual. When he woke up, he was very restless, but his energy was definitely not as good as before he went to sleep.”

Li Sheng meticulously described the little chick’s condition in detail.

The two doctors listened to his account, keeping calm expressions, but in their hearts, they couldn’t help thinking the same thing—

Rich people really know how to play.

Judging from the way Li Sheng was raising this little chick, it was no different from raising a child.

“Mr. Li, your… Yuan Yuan, his body temperature is a little on the high side.”

“My suggestion is to first give him some medicine to bring the fever down. If the medicine doesn’t lower it, then you can consider giving him an injection.”

The diagnoses from the two doctors were more or less the same, and the medicines they prescribed were also similar.

Li Sheng took the medicine and had Assistant Gao see them out.

As for himself, he used his own cup to prepare half a cup of medicine.

While Li Sheng was preparing the medicine, Feng Yuan was already plotting his escape.

Qin Xun held him down.

“Yuan Yuan, be good. If you take the medicine, you’ll get better. Once you’re better, then we can play properly.”

Qin Xun had no experience coaxing a child. His biological parents had only given birth to him alone.

His uncles did have younger children, but they thought he was unlucky and never allowed him to even take an extra glance at his younger cousins.

And Qin Xun himself had no interest in their children.

But he had seen Feng Yuan in his baby chick form.

He could guarantee that in this world, there would never be any child more beautiful and adorable than Feng Yuan.

“I’ll give you all of my toys.”

“You like eating fruit, I’ll plant an orchard just for you.”

Qin Xun lowered his voice, turning his back to Li Sheng, patiently coaxing the uncooperative little chick.

“Chirp!”

No!

No matter how much he coaxed, Feng Yuan, flapping his short, chubby little wings, just wouldn’t give in.

This was a chick who was very hard to fool.

His black bean–like eyes were fixed on the door, his claws scratching about, looking utterly determined, as if he would rather die than yield.

Qin Xun was nearly at the point where he couldn’t hold him back anymore.

Just as Qin Xun was at a complete loss, Li Sheng, who had finished preparing the medicine, came over holding the cup.

With ease, he picked up the chick who was flailing his claws in protest.

“Uncle Li.”

Qin Xun saw Li Sheng place the chick on his lap and was about to ask how he planned to feed him the medicine.

The next second—

Before he could even open his mouth, Li Sheng had already fed the medicine straight into Feng Yuan’s beak.

Qin Xun: “…”

Watching Feng Yuan kick and struggle desperately with his little claws, Qin Xun couldn’t help but move a bit closer to him.

“Chirp!!!”

Brother, hug me!

Feng Yuan saw Qin Xun step closer. With tears welling in his eyes, he reached his claws toward him.

That tiny voice calling for help made Qin Xun’s heart tremble.

He instinctively wanted to reach out his hand.

However, Li Sheng’s sharp, icy gaze swept over him.

Qin Xun was forced to pull back the hand he had extended.

All he could do was coax softly with words: “Yuan Yuan, you’ll be done drinking in just a moment.”

Li Sheng’s large hand was like an iron clamp as he pinched Feng Yuan’s tender yellow beak, steadily pouring all the medicine into him.

His method was steady, but Feng Yuan still spat out quite a bit with little pfft pfft sounds.

The gray-brown medicine splattered onto and soaked Li Sheng’s custom-tailored shirt.

Li Sheng didn’t even blink.

He quickly finished feeding the medicine, then handed the chick—who had been stretching his claws toward Qin Xun the whole time—over to the anxiously waiting Qin Xun.

“Coax him.”

With those two words, Li Sheng left and went into the inner room to change his clothes.

He had a rest room inside his office. In that room was a wardrobe.

All his clothes were custom-made, with no visible brand labels. But from the exquisite tailoring and the fine choice of fabrics, it was clear that each piece was extremely expensive.

By the time Li Sheng came back out, Qin Xun still hadn’t managed to soothe Feng Yuan.

Feng Yuan was already feeling unwell, and now he had been forced to take medicine. He wasn’t crying anymore, but his little body still trembled from time to time, showing that he had cried very hard just moments ago.

He ignored Qin Xun and ignored Li Sheng, burying himself into a pillow on the sofa, sulking in silence.

When Li Sheng came out, he saw Qin Xun standing helplessly by the sofa.

“Still not calmed down?”

Li Sheng asked casually, then sat down on the sofa.

Qin Xun pressed his lips together and nodded.

Li Sheng’s eyes darkened as he pulled the sulking chick out from the pillow.

“Stop crying. Go eat.”

His voice was low and cool, in stark contrast to Feng Qi’s usual gentle tone when coaxing the little one.

Feng Yuan chirped in grief and indignation, making it clear he didn’t want to be raised by him at all.

Seeing that it was already late, Li Sheng didn’t take the two little ones home to cook.

Instead, he brought them to the company cafeteria, where the dishes were varied and tasted quite good.

Just like the night before, Feng Yuan was once again coaxed into happiness by the delicious food.

Li Sheng held him in one arm and carried the food with the other. Besides using tasty dishes to comfort the little chick, he also promised to take him to see his dad in the evening.

“Chirp.”

Don’t lie to Yuan Yuan.

Having gone a whole day and night without seeing his dad, Feng Yuan looked at Li Sheng with hopeful eyes and chirped once.

Lowering his gaze to meet the little chick’s shiny black bean eyes, Li Sheng found that even without Qin Xun’s translations, he seemed to be understanding more and more of Feng Yuan’s chirps.

“I won’t lie to you.”

He said it lightly, his eyes shifting from Feng Yuan’s beady black eyes to the food in front of them.

That lunch was eaten in calm peace.

All the tables and chairs around Li Sheng were empty. Not only was there no one sitting nearby, but there wasn’t much noise either.

After the meal, Li Sheng carried the round little chick in his arms and led Qin Xun back to his office.

Almost as soon as he left, the quiet cafeteria instantly erupted into chatter.

“My god, were my eyes playing tricks on me?! Did I just see President Li?!”

For Li Sheng to appear in the cafeteria was already incredible enough.

But what shocked everyone even more was: “President Li fed a little chick!”

That round, fluffy chick—no one knew what breed it was. Except for its bald backside, the rest of it looked quite soft and cute.

But no matter how cute, it was still just a chick.

“What kind of new hobby is this for President Li? I really don’t get it.”

“Me neither…”

No one knew why Li Sheng had suddenly started raising a chick.

Their heads were full of question marks, but no one could provide them with an answer.

The Feng Yuan they were gossiping about was at that moment nestled in Li Sheng’s arms, fast asleep.

Perhaps it was because being full always made one drowsy, or perhaps the fever medicine he had taken had a drowsy effect.

Either way, little Feng Yuan was sleeping very, very deeply.

He slept soundly in Li Sheng’s embrace, while Qin Xun, not asleep, stayed by his side in the office.

“Uncle Li, in just one month, kindergarten will start. Could you register Yuan Yuan?”

Kindergarten enrollment required a parent to go in person.

If not for that reason, Qin Xun would have already registered Feng Yuan himself.

When he brought up this suggestion, Li Sheng—who was in the middle of handling an urgent document—lifted his gaze and glanced at him.

After glancing at Qin Xun, he lowered his eyes to look at Feng Yuan, who was lying asleep on his lap.

For a moment, the air sank into a strange silence.

Thinking about Feng Yuan’s current form, Qin Xun also fell silent for a few seconds.

“Uncle Li, please believe me, Yuan Yuan won’t stay like this forever.”

Qin Xun’s instincts told him that Feng Yuan would return to normal.

After Qin Xun made his earnest request once more, Li Sheng finally gave a faint “Mm.” Whether that meant he agreed to register Feng Yuan or not, it was hard to say.

The entire afternoon, Feng Yuan remained asleep. After keeping him company for quite a while, Qin Xun eventually left because of other matters.

By evening, Feng Yuan woke up yawning, looking dazed and groggy from his nap.

Li Sheng’s fingers brushed across his cheek. He immediately hugged the hand, rubbing his face against it.

Li Sheng: “…”

Li Sheng felt the soft touch against his fingers, and a subtle feeling stirred in his heart.

“Chirp.”

Want water.

After rubbing against his fingers, Feng Yuan lifted his head, asking for water.

Li Sheng looked at him for a few seconds, then handed over his new water cup.

Gulp, gulp.

After downing a full cup of water, Feng Yuan immediately perked up, looking much more energetic.

Clutching Li Sheng’s big hand, he started chirping again.

“Wait until I finish.”

Li Sheng left those few words, wrapping up his work.

He knew this time Feng Yuan’s chirps were calling for his dad.

A moment later.

Li Sheng finished his work, tucked Feng Yuan into his arms, and dialed a number.

Originally, he was supposed to attend the All-Star Banquet that evening. The host, Yu Yi, was his friend and had even invited him in advance.

But since he was going to find Feng Qi, naturally, he wouldn’t have time to attend any banquet.

Soon, the call connected.

Yu Yi sounded a little puzzled: “Why are you calling me now? Have you already arrived?”

Li Sheng: “No.”

Yu Yi’s voice carried a smile: “I just guessed you wouldn’t have arrived. Did you just get off work now?”

Li Sheng: “Mm.”

There was a bit of music coming from Yu Yi’s side, and his tone unconsciously rose a few notches: “Since you’re off work, hurry up and come! It’s really lively here! I even arranged quite a few performances. Come watch.”

Li Sheng wasn’t interested in the performances.

As he walked toward the company’s main entrance, he planned to wait until Yu Yi finished talking before telling him that he wouldn’t be going.

But Yu Yi talked too much, and his words came one after another.

While talking, Yu Yi’s words shifted onto his kept little lover—the one he was supporting, who was rumored to be an absolute beauty.

But as for who exactly that person was, or what they looked like, no one knew.

“Li Sheng, let me tell you, my baby’s looks are already stunning enough, but today I actually found someone just as stunning as my baby!”

“I even gave him an invitation, let him come inside and sit for a while.”

“That person’s name sounds nice too, something like Feng Qi. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of such a surname.”

Yu Yi was speaking excitedly, and before he could continue, Li Sheng suddenly cut him off out of nowhere.

“You want to set your sights on him?”

Yu Yi: “?”

Hearing Li Sheng’s voice suddenly sink like that, Yu Yi was completely at a loss, utterly bewildered.

“What nonsense are you spouting?!”

It took Yu Yi several seconds before he reacted. Unhappily, he said, “Having my baby is more than enough for me, I don’t have the energy to make a move on anyone else! I just think this Feng Qi is really good-looking. Signing him would definitely be a sure win without any loss.”

“No need for you to sign him.”

After hearing his explanation, Li Sheng’s tone returned to its usual indifference.

The Li family already had its own entertainment company. If Feng Qi wanted to sign and enter the entertainment industry, there was no need for him to go elsewhere.

“Fine then, if you don’t want me to sign him, I won’t. But… do you know Feng Qi?”

Yu Yi still wanted to probe further, but Li Sheng had already hung up the phone. He stared at the now-darkened screen, his chest tight with frustration.

If it weren’t for their childhood friendship, he really wouldn’t bother being friends with Li Sheng!

“Making this call, I don’t even know what the point was in the end.”

Yu Yi muttered to himself, put away his phone, and walked toward the center of the banquet.

A banquet was a banquet. No way he would waste a fine spread.

Yu Yi was someone who never lacked money. The banquet he prepared had solid, lavish dishes set on the tables.

Only after he had eaten his fill did he go around socializing.

Not far from him, Feng Qi—who had entered with the invitation Yu Yi gave—was also focused on eating.

Seeing how seriously Feng Qi ate, Yu Yi for a moment even suspected that he had come here just to freeload a meal.

“President Yu, long time no see.”

Just as Yu Yi wanted to look at Feng Qi for a few moments longer, someone came over to greet him.

He casually dealt with a few words of response, and when he turned back again, Feng Qi was already gone.

Yu Yi: “……”

Yu Yi: “Forget it. Not looking anymore.”

His feelings toward Feng Qi were purely admiration, along with a bit of curiosity that had just been stirred.

But that admiration and curiosity weren’t heavy.

He had a jealous little baby at home, so when he was outside, he paid close attention to keeping his boundaries.

Only about ten minutes had passed since Yu Yi’s call with Li Sheng ended.

Li Sheng, holding Feng Yuan, arrived at the venue.

“Chirp.”

In Li Sheng’s arms, Feng Yuan tilted his head upward. Around his neck hung a little cartoon necklace.

That cartoon necklace looked like an ordinary accessory, but in reality, it was a tracker Li Sheng had someone send over.

Feng Yuan had once gone through an experience of being “kidnapped”.

When Li Sheng brought him out, hanging something like this on him gave him a bit more peace of mind.

“There are a lot of people inside. Don’t run around.”

Besides putting the tracker on Feng Yuan, Li Sheng also reminded him in advance.

One tall and one small stepped into the banquet hall. In an instant, they became the center of attention.

The people present looked at the strikingly handsome Li Sheng, itching with the urge to strike up a conversation.

Before they could come forward, Yu Yi called Li Sheng away.

“Li Sheng, do you really know Feng Qi?”

The ease on Yu Yi’s face from earlier was gone; he didn’t even bother glancing at the little chick in Li Sheng’s arms.

He lowered his voice, speaking by Li Sheng’s ear: “I heard someone say that person went to Director Huang’s lounge. He went there on his own, and after going in, the door was shut.”

The “Director Huang” Yu Yi spoke of was someone in the circle with a rather unsavory reputation, said to indulge in both meat and vegetables without distinction.

The moment Li Sheng heard this, his deep eyes instantly sank.

He sent Feng Yuan to Yu Yi’s room.

Yu Yi’s room was an off-limits area of the banquet, where no one dared set foot, and it was surrounded by the highest level of security.

“Yuan Yuan, stay here. I’ll come get you in a bit.”

Leaving Feng Yuan behind, Li Sheng turned and walked out.

Facing Yu Yi, who was just about to enter through the door, he said coldly: “Take me to the lounge.”

Yu Yi: “Alright.”

Yu Yi led him away.

Left where he was, Feng Yuan blinked in confusion.

Ai!

Why was no one looking after Yuan Yuan anymore?!
