Chu Yi gritted his teeth. “I’m not doing this anymore.”
On the way back, Chu Yi didn’t dare touch his left hand. Even the slightest contact felt excruciating. His hand was even redder than before.
His biggest fear was the car suddenly hitting a bump, so he kept his arm raised the entire time.
After getting in the car, Shen Jin instructed the bodyguard to drive back quickly. “Drive smoothly,” he added.
Though the car sped along, Chu Yi didn’t feel a single bump. Even when slowing down or accelerating, he remained perfectly stable.
Only then did he relax and rest his arm on his lap. Holding it up for so long had been tiring.
Shen Jin’s private doctor had rushed to the villa as soon as he received the bodyguard’s call.
After waiting for over half an hour, he finally saw Shen Jin return.
The doctor anxiously examined Shen Jin, expecting to see burn marks as the bodyguard had described. But Shen Jin was completely unscathed.
It was only when the young man beside Shen Jin groaned that the doctor noticed his hand. The back of his hand was red and swollen—clearly burned.
The doctor immediately examined and treated the boy’s hand.
While Chu Yi was being treated, Butler Wen went to Shen Jin to ask what had happened. They hadn’t gone there to eat? Why had they returned so quickly, and why was Chu Yi injured?
Shen Jin briefly explained the situation to Butler Wen. He kept it simple, but Butler Wen immediately understood that Shen Chunhan had done this on purpose. The bowl of soup had originally been meant to be splashed on Shen Jin.
Just as Butler Wen was about to speak, he heard Chu Yi groaning in pain.
Chu Yi felt as though his left hand was about to be crippled. After examining it, the doctor said the burn was quite severe, but fortunately, the first aid measures had been handled very well. However, because the burn covered a large area, it would be best to bandage it to better isolate it from bacteria.
But the moment the doctor touched his hand, Chu Yi cried out in agony.
Clenching his teeth, Chu Yi said, “I’m not doing it.”
The doctor had only touched him lightly, yet the pain was unbearable. If his entire hand were bandaged, wouldn’t he be in agony? Comparing it to before, he realized that the pain from Shen Jin’s medicine had been less intense.
The doctor glanced at the resistant Chu Yi, then looked at Shen Jin with a troubled expression. “Mr. Shen, what do you think we should do?” He didn’t know whether to continue bandaging the wound or stop.
Tears began to stream down Chu Yi’s face again.
As Shen Jin’s private physician, the doctor knew that Shen Jin hated nothing more than someone crying in front of him. Seeing Chu Yi’s tears, the doctor couldn’t help but worry for him.
Despite his youth, Shen Jin exuded an aura that inspired fear. His gaze often seemed to emerge from the depths of an abyss, cold and dark as pitch.
When the doctor saw Shen Jin approaching, he couldn’t help but tense up, fearing for Chu Yi.
He watched Shen Jin walk over to Chu Yi and examine his left hand. “Bandage it,” Shen Jin instructed.
“I don’t want to,” Chu Yi protested.
Shen Jin glanced at him. “Do you want to lose your hand?”
Chu Yi slowly lowered his eyelashes, his voice filled with grievance. “No, I want it.”
Butler Wen approached and gently coaxed, “Chu Yi, listen to the doctor. Let him bandage it. Your hand is so beautiful; it would be a shame to leave a scar.”
The doctor quickly pulled out gauze to bandage Chu Yi’s hand. Before he could start, he heard Shen Jin say, “Be gentle.”
This was the most difficult bandaging the doctor had ever done. The patient was terrified of pain and kept crying, which made the doctor feel increasingly irritated.
He suddenly understood why Shen Jin hated seeing others cry.
As the doctor bandaged the boy’s hand, Shen Jin stood by, watching intently.
Tears streaming down his face, Chu Yi looked at Shen Jin’s grave expression. He gritted his teeth and let the doctor continue, but no matter how careful the doctor was, the pain was excruciating. Yet because Shen Jin was right there, Chu Yi didn’t dare refuse the bandaging.
Halfway through, Chu Yi felt like he was about to collapse. Sweat drenched his forehead and back, and he could only sob silently.
He looked utterly miserable.
Even Butler Wen, standing nearby, could sense the agony Chu Yi was enduring. Chu Yi’s lips were bitten raw, yet Shen Jin remained impassive, as if unable to empathize with the boy’s pain.
By the time the doctor finished bandaging Chu Yi’s wound, his back was drenched in sweat. Shen Jin and the Butler were both staring at him, and the boy hadn’t stopped crying. He had never been so careful and meticulous in his life.
Finally, the doctor could breathe a sigh of relief. He then prescribed Chu Yi some anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medication.
The pain medication was especially crucial. He instructed Chu Yi to take two tablets whenever the pain became unbearable.
He also sternly warned Chu Yi to keep his left hand completely dry for the next few days.
As the doctor left, it belatedly dawned on him that this boy was the same one who had collapsed from heatstroke the last time he was called to the Shen residence. The bodyguard’s urgent tone on the phone had led him to believe Shen Jin was the one injured.
He had been so focused on treating Chu Yi’s burn that he hadn’t fully registered how exceptionally beautiful the boy was.
The last time he saw Chu Yi, the boy’s eyes had been closed, but even then, he had thought Chu Yi was stunning. Seeing him today, he realized Chu Yi was even more beautiful than he had remembered, even while crying.
The private physician suddenly realized that both times he had been urgently summoned to the Shen Family, it was because of this young man.
He couldn’t help but wonder why Shen Jin’s expression had been so grim while the young man was crying. What had caused such severe burns, as if boiling water at 100 degrees Celsius had been poured directly onto him?
But the physician only indulged his curiosity briefly. As a private doctor to the elite, he knew the importance of turning a blind eye, deaf ear, and keeping his mouth shut.
Chu Yi was afraid of pain, so he quickly took a painkiller. As the medication took effect, the pain in his hand subsided significantly.
He looked at his left hand, wrapped tightly like a mummy.
Now that the back of his hand no longer hurt, Chu Yi’s stomach rumbled loudly. He was hungry.
Strictly speaking, he hadn’t eaten anything all night. He had only managed a single bite of food at the Shen Family’s residence. After enduring so much pain, his attention had been completely consumed by it. Now that the painkiller had shifted his focus, Chu Yi finally realized how hungry he was.
A loud, rumbling growl was unmistakable.
Butler Wen, knowing that Chu Yi and Shen Jin hadn’t eaten all evening, asked gently, “Are you hungry, Chu Yi? What would you like to eat?”
Chu Yi replied, “Anything is fine.” He was starving and would eat anything at that moment.
Butler Wen turned to Shen Jin. “What about you, Shen Jin?”
Shen Jin answered, “Anything.”
After hearing their responses, Butler Wen had already decided. “How about wonton noodles?”
Chu Yi and Shen Jin both agreed.
Butler Wen immediately went into the kitchen to prepare the wonton noodles, as they could be made quickly. He knew they were both famished. The refrigerator held freshly made wontons from earlier that afternoon.
Soon, two bowls of wonton noodles were ready.
Butler Wen placed a bowl in front of Chu Yi. “Eat slowly and be careful, it’s hot.”
The exquisite bowls were filled half with wontons and half with noodles. The noodles were thin, golden strands, while the wontons were large and plump, swimming in a rich chicken broth garnished with vibrant green scallions. The aroma was incredibly tempting, and Chu Yi couldn’t help but swallow discreetly.
He glanced at Shen Jin, who had already picked up his chopsticks. Only then did Chu Yi pick up his own and begin to eat.
The wontons were freshly made, each containing a large shrimp. They were incredibly satisfying to eat.
Chu Yi ate with gusto, alternating between mouthfuls of noodles and wontons.
His stomach was thoroughly satisfied. Habitually, he reached out with his left hand, but when his hand touched the bowl, the pain nearly choked him.
Clearly, he’d forgotten his left hand was injured. He winced in pain and quickly blew on his hand.
Shen Jin frowned. “Be careful.” He didn’t want to see Chu Yi cry again. The sound of his sobbing had made his scalp tingle.
Fortunately, this time Chu Yi only reddened around the eyes; no tears fell.
Shen Jin watched him pant and grunt as he ate the noodles, clearly ravenous.
Soon, Chu Yi finished the bowl of wonton noodles, leaving it spotless—not a drop of soup remained. He still thought Uncle Wen’s cooking was the best.
His stomach full, Chu Yi was about to head upstairs when Shen Jin said, “Keep your hand dry. And be careful not to put pressure on it while you sleep.”
Back in his room, Chu Yi felt a flicker of happiness. It seemed Shen Jin wasn’t as fierce as before. He’d cried several times in front of Shen Jin today, and though Shen Jin had been impatient, he hadn’t kicked him out.
Just now, Shen Jin had reminded him not to touch water and to avoid bumping his injured hand while sleeping.
So who said Shen Jin had a terrible temper? He wasn’t nearly as scary as the rumors made him out to be.
Having his left hand injured was inconvenient, but thankfully, his right hand was fine. He could still manage many tasks with just his right hand.
After a simple wash, Chu Yi climbed into bed. He was a wimp when it came to pain, so he took a painkiller before going to sleep.
But that night, Chu Yi didn’t sleep well. Especially in the second half of the night, the slightest movement sent a sharp pain through his left hand.
He was forced to sleep flat on his back.
Chu Yi had no idea what had happened between Shen Jin and Shen Chunhan. All he knew was that he had been burned while helping someone.
After returning to his room, Shen Jin didn’t rest. He had to do something to respond to Shen Chunhan’s actions.
After completing a series of tasks, his thoughts turned to Chu Yi. So afraid of pain, yet he had rushed forward without hesitation. Hadn’t he considered the possibility of getting burned himself?
Afterward, he had even said, “Thank goodness it wasn’t you who got burned.”
As Chu Yi came downstairs that morning, he yawned, clearly having slept poorly the night before.
Butler Wen, concerned about his injury, asked, “Should you take a day off from school today?”
Chu Yi shook his head. “I’m fine.” He could endure the pain, and besides the discomfort, the injury wasn’t a big deal.
After breakfast, as Chu Yi was preparing to leave for school as usual, Butler Wen stopped him. “Chu Yi, wait. Let Shen Jin take you to school today.”
Butler Wen turned to Shen Jin. “You’re not in a rush to get to work right now, are you? Could you take Chu Yi to school first?”
Chu Yi glanced at Shen Jin, expecting him to refuse.
Shen Jin nodded. “Sure.”
