OFCC – Chapter 14

A strange emotion spread through the air. For a moment, Mu Yanxi forgot to move, maintaining her position, half-pressed against Yi Wulan.

Perhaps due to the shock, Yi Wulan also didn’t push Mu Yanxi away immediately.

In the end, it was Mu Yanxi who came to her senses first, hastily pulling back.

“Careful.”

The bedding between them was a mess, and Mu Yanxi retreated so quickly that she nearly tripped over it, just as Yi Wulan had the night before.

Yi Wulan’s hand shot out and grabbed Mu Yanxi’s arm.

With Yi Wulan holding her arm like this, Mu Yanxi lowered her eyes in embarrassment and cautiously tested the waters, “I…”

“Hm?” Yi Wulan’s expression had already returned to its usual calm, her eyes clear, evidently unaffected by what had just happened.

Seeing such a composed Yi Wulan, Mu Yanxi bit her lip, feeling as if she had lost the battle. But her recent actions made her feel utterly mortified. She quickly threw back the covers, “I-I’m going to wash up.”

Mu Yanxi had always been carefree, and after Yi Wulan left the house, this little episode was already thrown to the back of her mind. Once out the door, Mu Yanxi was busy enjoying a sumptuous breakfast while lurking on her own Weibo feed.

Last night’s episode of the variety show 【Go! Pikachu】 had stirred up immense popularity on Weibo as soon as it was announced.

As if they had anticipated it, the production team specifically announced that Chi An would also be joining the recording of 【Go! Pikachu】 right when Weibo traffic was at its peak last night.

This directly led to a lot of heated discussion:

【Thank goodness the permanent guests on this show have different partners each episode. Chi An and Mu Yanxi won’t actually be paired up, will they? Wouldn’t that be a massive catfight?】

【How did Mu Yanxi even land this variety show? If I were her, I’d call in sick with a fever during the recording. She could even play up a professional persona.】

【Don’t even talk about it, I’m embarrassed for Mu Yanxi. That little vase is useless apart from her beauty. Is she joining this kind of brainy variety show just asking to be flamed? Isn’t the title of a homewrecker enough for her to get attention?】

Mu Yanxi scrolled through the comments half-heartedly. Her manager, sitting beside her, glanced at her phone. The screen full of personal attacks made even her a little angry. “Aiya, stop looking. You’re just ruining your mood for no reason.”

“It’s fine. What’s there to be unhappy about?” Mu Yanxi slowly sipped her soy milk and continued to scroll down her phone. “If I get angry, get wrinkles, and become ugly because of this, wouldn’t that be giving them exactly what they want?”

Ling Yi was speechless.

Sometimes, Ling Yi really couldn’t understand her artist’s personality, which valued her face more than anything else.

Although Mu Yanxi’s only asset in the entertainment industry was her face, there was no need to be so dramatic at times.

However, Ling Yi had to admit that Mu Yanxi’s face was indeed exceptionally beautiful, truly stunning.

Perhaps it was her manager’s bias, but she always felt that Mu Yanxi was the most beautiful among the current celebrities.

It wasn’t just her face that was beautiful; the temperament she displayed in her actions was also extremely noble, like an air of aristocracy that could only be cultivated by growing up in a wealthy family.

But on second thought, given her little ancestor’s track record over the past two years since her debut, how could she be some wealthy little princess?

If her family had even a little bit of power, she wouldn’t need to be fed resources. As long as people like Chi An didn’t maliciously snatch her roles, she probably would have shed the “vase” label long ago.

But before Ling Yi could feel sorry for her artist for more than a few seconds, she discovered that Mu Yanxi, who had been obediently not liking or commenting just a moment ago, had posted another comment while she wasn’t looking.

She immediately had a bad feeling. She took a closer look, and sure enough.

The cause was a dating variety show that Mu Yanxi and Guan Zhou had participated in before. The well-funded production team had specially organized a masquerade ball.

The show had been over for more than half a month, yet someone had identified the haute couture dress Mu Yanxi wore.

It was a new design from the current season, priced at over two million.

Given Mu Yanxi’s reputation for wearing fakes, everyone unanimously assumed she was up to her old tricks.

Even her manager, upon seeing those comments, couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at how beautiful her artist was, making a fake provided by the production team look like the real thing.

Normally, such nested comments wouldn’t need a response, and their popularity wouldn’t overshadow that of the variety show.

But Mu Yanxi just had to use her main account to jump in and clap back with a comment: 【I never wear fakes (soybean smile)】

This reply immediately attracted her army of anti-fans, and the flames grew higher and higher.

Seeing this, the manager didn’t blame her. Instead, she carefully protected this minor celebrity’s pride. “Alright, alright, let’s not stoop to their level, okay? Everything you wear is real.”

Mu Yanxi rolled her eyes. As if she would ever wear a fake?

She had rejected the outfit offered by the production team and had that dress specially express-delivered. It was currently the only one of its kind in all of Huaguo.

Seeing her little ancestor was unhappy, the manager quickly pulled out a retouched photo from one of Chi An’s endorsement events. “Chi An’s face really isn’t suited for grand occasions. Wearing this dress, she looks like a child who can’t carry it at all. What a waste of such an expensive outfit.”

The manager looked sourly at the identical haute couture dress on Chi An. The more she looked, the more bitter she felt. So what if she had the backing of Rongjia?

A multi-million-dollar dress, borrowed just like that. Tsk.

In the next few minutes, Mu Yanxi’s comment, as expected, successfully appeared at the bottom of the trending list. Some marketing accounts even created a summary report for it:

[Gossip Circle Scoop: Mu Yanxi is wearing fakes again, and again! Come get the tea!]

Under the previous dating show hashtag, there were fans of several other celebrities controlling the comments. Now, with a separate hashtag, the comment section was almost entirely filled with insults:

【It’s her, it’s her, it’s really her! The pretentious, wealth-flaunting Mu Yanxi is back again!】

【That’s our Mu Yanxi. Wouldn’t it be better to just obediently wear the clothes arranged by the production team?】

【Spread the word, Mu Yanxi never borrows clothes like other artists. She buys them with her own hard-earned money… fakes!】

【As expected of the little vase I’ve stanned for two years, she never disappoints me.】

【Weibo’s KPI depends entirely on you. Keep up the good work, Muzi~ What would I do for entertainment without you~】

【Yes, yes, you never wear fakes. Anyway, Chi An has already connected with Rongjia. Your powerless rage is useless.】

【Come, come, let me also recommend Rongjia Entertainment’s upcoming new movie, 《Chasing the Wind》. The female lead is Chi An~】

Reading this, Mu Yanxi’s finger, which had been scrolling the screen, paused.

Even though she had consoled herself a few days ago that Yi Wulan had absolutely nothing to do with Chi An, her anger flared up at this moment. She was so mad that she swallowed the shrimp dumpling she had only taken two bites of in one go.

After perfunctorily finishing her breakfast, Mu Yanxi, accompanied by her manager, finally headed to the recording of the officially announced variety show, 【Go! Pikachu】, as a guest star.

It was an indoor puzzle-solving variety show. To put it simply, it involved playing games like Werewolf. There was no need to be exposed to the wind and sun; she just had to stay inside quietly for a day to get some screen time.

An opportunity for an indoor variety show in the middle of summer was rare. Ling Yi had gone to great lengths to secure this spot for her and had spent the entire car ride painstakingly explaining the show’s script.

But after talking all the way, they were almost at the recording location when she realized her little ancestor hadn’t been listening to her at all.

So she gently nudged Mu Yanxi. “Yanxi, did you remember what I just said?”

Mu Yanxi snapped back to reality, feeling a pang of guilt.

Her manager straightened a strand of her hair and said strangely, “Why are you so distracted today? It’s like some vixen has bewitched your soul.”

Mu Yanxi was speechless.

For some reason, Yi Wulan’s face popped into her mind.

“No, I was just thinking about the retouched photo of Chi An you showed me,” she immediately retorted, even concocting a plausible story. “I just feel like the dress Chi An is wearing is a fake. What do you think?”

Because the real one was currently gathering dust in her closet.

Unfortunately, she found it too ugly and had never graced it with her presence.

The manager looked at Mu Yanxi with pity. “That dress of Chi An’s is a limited edition. I heard only one piece made it to Huaguo. Do you think everyone is as bold as you?”

Mu Yanxi was speechless.

Forget it. She wouldn’t argue with the ignorant.

As a guest star, Mu Yanxi didn’t arrive at the same time as the permanent guests, so she was assigned a separate dressing room.

The manager stood by, watching the show’s makeup artist apply the makeup, reminding them of some of the specific features of Mu Yanxi’s face.

Mu Yanxi’s skin was already flawless, and with makeup, she became even more radiant and captivating—a standard beauty with strong, defined features.

Ling Yi had initially expected Mu Yanxi to refuse this variety show. After the makeup artist left, she couldn’t help but urge:

“As soon as she heard we were in talks with 【Go! Pikachu】, Chi An deliberately got involved. She clearly doesn’t want to let you go.”

“Showing off her relationship on Weibo isn’t enough; she even has to butt into the new variety show you’re on to make her presence known and highlight her ‘noble’ relationship. Does Rongjia not have the money to buy her traffic? Why does she have to leech off everything?”

“We’ll just do as I said before. We’ll use this to convert fans. Quickly turn your and Guan Zhou’s CP fans into your solo stans, understand?”

But Mu Yanxi seemed to have just snapped out of her daze, asking, “Chi An, she’s participating too?”

Ling Yi was speechless.

She really shouldn’t have overthought things for Mu Yanxi.

For Mu Yanxi, sharing a bed last night was just a task to transfer her special ability, but she was unaware of the waves this incident had stirred in Yi Wulan’s heart.

All morning, Yi Wulan found it impossible to focus on her work, which she usually handled with ease. Her mind was filled with the image of Mu Yanxi’s lively expression upon waking up.

And the soft touch on her jaw.

She couldn’t help but raise a hand to stroke the spot where Mu Yanxi’s lips had touched, a trace of bewilderment flashing imperceptibly in her eyes.

Beside her, Special Assistant Gu Yan finally finished reporting the schedule, trembling with trepidation. He waited for a long time without getting a response from his boss, and the pressure in the air seemed to drop by several degrees.

It wasn’t until Yi Wulan’s phone screen lit up that the gloomy aura around her seemed to dissipate a little. Or was that just Gu Yan’s imagination?

But his boss had always treated work as her entire life; nothing could affect her. Gu Yan couldn’t help but feel that his earlier perception was absurd.

Yi Wulan casually opened the message.

Mu Yanxi had sent a few selfies. In the photos, she was dressed in a blue and white sailor-style school uniform. The front of her hair was styled into a half-up princess look with a small clip, and a bow on her head was perfectly visible in the shot.

It was a very academic, youthful, and exceptionally eye-catching look.

Below the photos was a caption in her usual tone:

【What are you doing, Elder Sister? Are you busy with work? Here are some photos for you (little dog wagging tail.jpg)】

Yi Wulan looked at them for a moment before saving them to her photo album and replying: 【Why are you dressed like that?】

Mu Yanxi: 【I’m recording a show (little dog pawing at window.jpg)】

Yi Wulan: 【What show?】

A triumphant smile finally appeared on Mu Yanxi’s face. Her fingertips danced lightly across the phone screen as she typed, twisting the facts without a shred of guilt: 【It’s a dating variety show】

As if worried Yi Wulan wouldn’t understand, she even emphasized: 【The audience loves to watch other people date and ship CPs】

Yi Wulan frowned as she typed: 【But aren’t you married?】

Mu Yanxi took a big slurp of her milk tea, feeling utterly refreshed: 【That’s right, but I never said I was dating you (little dog rolling over.jpg)】

After sending the message, Mu Yanxi was in a great mood. She slammed her phone face down on the dressing table with a “thwack,” finally feeling vindicated.

The noise successfully drew the attention of others, especially Chi An, who scurried out the door as fast as a mouse.

──It seemed she was worried the phone would come flying at her head next.

Mu Yanxi sneered inwardly and shook her head.

Upon receiving the message, Yi Wulan’s expression froze subtly for a few moments. Although her facial expression didn’t change much, for Gu Yan, who had been observing her closely, it was enough to be terrifying.

He asked, “President Yi, is there anything in the schedule that needs to be adjusted?”

“No need.” Yi Wulan’s tone was calm as she tapped her fingertips on the desk, seemingly deep in thought.

Just as Gu Yan finished reporting on the progress of another task and was waiting for Yi Wulan’s decision, Yi Wulan suddenly spoke up, “Go find the address of Miss Mu’s show recording.”
