One by one, the intimate whispers made Youyou’s face turn red, as if a layer of rouge had been brushed on, looking exceedingly alluring.
Her heart thumped violently, like a flustered fawn, and Youyou shyly buried her head in Wuyou’s embrace, her small fingers plucking at the green grass on the ground. She found it quite amusing.
“Tsk, my lady is so thin-skinned.” A pair of eyes filled with darkness were now full of passion and amusement. The female ghost chuckled, finding every little thing about the girl in her arms cute enough to die for. She truly couldn’t get enough of looking at her, couldn’t get enough of holding her. Even the pain in her soul could not stop her desire to be close to her.
The wedding dresses on their bodies, scarlet like blood, shone against the backdrop of the mountain covered in blooming pink peach blossoms. The scorching sun hanging high in the sky grew redder and redder, giving off a sense that it was on the verge of falling, as if in the next second it would plummet with deadly rays of fire.
The smile on her face faded slightly. Holding Youyou, the female ghost suddenly felt a pang of pain.
It wasn’t the heart-rending pain of being burned by karmic fire, nor was it the soul-freezing cold of being invaded by the Nine Nethers. She simply felt pain for this soft, delicate little girl in her arms. Her heart ached that Youyou would have to accompany her here forever, to accept death and experience it over and over.
But, call her selfish or call her evil, she would not let her go.
She would trap her forever in this city, to be with her for a long, long time.
Her ghostly energy once again overflowed wildly. Youyou curiously reached out and touched it, only to find that nothing happened; her fingertips remained as fair as before.
Looking up at Wuyou, who seemed to be in a bad mood, Youyou tilted her head in confusion. Then, she wrapped her arms around Wuyou’s neck and, under her questioning gaze, kissed her on the chin, sticking out her tongue to lick it like a clingy little puppy.
“Is my lady trying to comfort me?”
A tingling sensation slowly rose from the spot she kissed. Wuyou half-closed her eyes, enjoying it, and remarked with what seemed like a mix of sorrow and a sigh, “So foolish.”
This little fool… she would probably never know what kind of terrifying, dark existence she had provoked.
“Wuyou.”
She planted another loud smack of a kiss on Wuyou’s beautiful cheek.
The little lady’s voice was soft and sweet, enough to melt her heart. And just as Wuyou was about to kiss her back, she heard the little girl’s words, delivered with ringing conviction: “I believe Wuyou is a good ghost, because Wuyou is veryyyy pretty.”
In Youyou’s mind, all the vicious ghosts in horror movies were extremely ugly, even frightening enough to scare someone to death. Therefore, the fact that Wuyou was this beautiful meant she must be a good ghost, one who had never harmed anyone or even seen blood.
Wuyou: …
A single sentence made the female ghost’s mouth twitch. But meeting the little girl’s crystal-clear eyes, Wuyou still nodded with a beaming smile.
“Whatever my lady says.”
“So, can Wuyou change form? Ghosts should all be able to, right? Like, long-tongued ghosts have long tongues, those who died unjustly cry tears of blood, and lots and lots of others, like keeping their appearance from right before they died… So what is Wuyou’s original form? How did you die? Do you have any bloody holes on you?”
Looking at Wuyou with pure curiosity, Youyou’s face showed no trace of fear; on the contrary, it was filled more with excitement and trepidation.
Aah, she actually got to touch a ghost! She simply couldn’t be happier, aah!
“This…”
Choked speechless by her lady’s words, Wuyou, as a bona fide vengeful ghost of the Shengqi Continent, was clearly unable to comprehend Youyou’s train of thought.
Unable to hold back a few dry coughs, Wuyou spoke with some helplessness.
“Isn’t my lady very afraid of ghosts?”
She remembered that when they first met, Youyou had been very afraid of her.
“But I’m not afraid of Wuyou!”
Not thinking at all about what kind of impact her words might have on her lover, Youyou gazed at Wuyou with sparkling eyes, her hands clasped together in a pleading gesture.
“Wuyou, Wuyouuuuuu, please just tell me, okay?”
She really, really wanted to know.
“My lady, Wuyou’s true form is a skeleton. Are you really not afraid?”
Faced with the little girl’s earnest request, how could Wuyou bear to refuse? Besides, she also wanted the little lady to see her true face.
Her skin and flesh had been destroyed long ago by the corrosion of the Nine Nethers.
Wuyou knew that the little lady had a weakness for beauty, but still, she got greedy.
Seeing the little lady’s body suddenly go rigid, her mouth even falling slightly agape in astonishment, Wuyou’s gaze turned cold. Without allowing for any argument, she lowered her head and fiercely kissed the little girl’s lips. The force was savage, giving Youyou no room to resist or escape.
What, scared just by hearing the word ‘skeleton’?
Are you disgusted? Do you want to run away? Are you going to look at me with that terrified, cowering gaze again? Desperate to disappear from my sight?
An indescribable pain and anguish rose from the depths of her soul. Wuyou’s face gradually became savage, and her once-normal eyes were suddenly filled by pure black pupils, devoid of a single speck of light, scaring Youyou so much she quickly shut her eyes.
Wuwu[mfn]crying onomatopoeia[/mfn], Wuyou is so scary like this.
Even so, Youyou still didn’t struggle. She silently endured Wuyou’s ravaging kiss and, imitating how Bai Qu would, soothingly stroked Wuyou’s back.
Wuyou was hurting.
She could feel it.
“Tsk, don’t think I’ll let you off just because of this.”
As their lips parted, a translucent, silvery thread glistened salaciously in the sunlight. Wuyou roughly caressed Youyou’s lips with her fingertips. Her eyes, now restored to normal, stared dead at Youyou, and she used a control spell to command Youyou to open her eyes. This time, however, Wuyou didn’t strip Youyou of her senses.
And so, Youyou could only watch helplessly as Wuyou gave her a devastating smile, then gracefully lay down on the emerald-green grass.
She struck a seductive posture, as if offering herself up to be plucked.
Now, Youyou knew that Wuyou was very beautiful. She had a face of unrivaled beauty, a body enchanting to the bone, and eyes that could snatch one’s soul. She was far more beautiful than any TV star and even more gorgeous than any anime character. At this moment, she was staring straight at her with a smile, yet Youyou felt as if she were crying.
Sure enough. In a matter of seconds, the beauty was gone, transformed into a terrifying white skeleton, as if the beautiful woman named Wuyou she had just seen were a mere illusion that had never existed.
Her eyes suddenly grew hot, and Youyou, grief-stricken, began to struggle fiercely. All the while, the female ghost was secretly watching Youyou’s every move.
She saw Youyou resisting, saw her so frightened she was on the verge of tears. A wave of sorrow instantly washed over her.
Truthfully, she didn’t blame the little lady.
After all, her little lady was so soft, so weak, just like a child who didn’t understand anything. It was only normal for her to be scared to tears, even to fear her because of this.
She just felt a sense of desolation for their encounter, for her and her feelings, because it was as if she had already foreseen the ending in the grand scheme of things—
In this twisted, bizarre cycle, all they left each other with was pain.
With a single thought, she released the control spell. Wuyou had expected Youyou to turn and run far away, but who would have known? The little lady collapsed on top of her and began to cry.
The kind of crying where she threw all decorum to the wind, wailing at the top of her lungs.
Na Lian had only ever seen this kind of crying in small children.
“Waaah—”
“Waaah, waaah, waaah—”
The girl’s sharp cries carried far across the silent mountain. Her scalding, crystal-clear tears fell one by one onto the white bones. At the core of her soul, something softened completely in that instant. The female ghost remained silent, wanting to see what other surprises the little lady had in store for her.
But the female ghost waited and waited, and a quarter of an hour passed.
She wanted to hear the little lady speak, but the little lady just kept crying and crying, like a doll made of water.
“What’s wrong? Did someone bully my lady?”
Unable to resist, she restored her beautiful form and wrapped her arms around the little girl’s waist. Still lying on the ground, she lifted the little girl’s chin and licked away a tear.
“N-no one bullied me.”
Looking at Wuyou with red-rimmed eyes, Youyou sniffled and said sullenly, “I-I don’t know what’s wrong, I just wanted to cry.”
Most of what she understood had been taught to her by Bai Qu. And she couldn’t quite explain the emotion she had just felt.
“So that’s how it is. In that case, my lady shouldn’t cry anymore. It makes Wuyou’s heart ache.”
Nodding in understanding, Wuyou pointed to the peach blossoms covering the mountainside and said gently, “Such a beautiful view, won’t my lady take a look? Wuyou found this place especially for you.”
“I won’t.”
She refused without a second thought, clinging tightly to Wuyou as if afraid the ghost would run away.
“I want to look at Wuyou. Wuyou is the prettiest.”
Her voice was cloyingly sweet, yet even when raised, it was still exceptionally pleasant to hear. After meeting Wuyou’s gaze for several seconds, Youyou suddenly rested her head on the female ghost’s chest and declared with a forceful roar: “Even as a skeleton, Wuyou is super good-looking! The most beautiful, the prettiest one in the entire skeleton world! No one can compare!”
Wuyou: …
What was she supposed to do when she wanted to smack her but couldn’t bear to?
