Cheng Jing slept soundly for a full week, making up for all the sleep he had missed since the day he was born.
When I opened my eyes, memories started flooding back, giving me the sensation that my brain had just been rebooted.
The sorrowful, heart-pounding dream faded, and I was greeted by the familiar bedroom—and the scent of my lover lingering on the pillow beside me.
There were two phones on the bedside table: one was his, and the other was Jiang Nian’s. It was just past five in the evening, so it was still early.
The atmosphere was quiet and dim because the curtains were drawn. The brat wasn’t around, and he hadn’t taken his phone with him. He had probably gone to his parents’ place for dinner.
I got out of bed, went to the bathroom to wash up, and took an energy booster to get my body back to normal quickly.
Then, I soaked in the tub, closed my eyes, and relaxed, thinking about the dreams I’d had lately.
From finding out that Jiang Nian had been reborn to Chen Yue awakening memories of a past life. I’d secretly wished that I could regain my past-life memories, too, so that I could better understand my lover.
However, the regret and pain caused by the emotional synchronization of those “dreams come true” made me feel suffocated, as if I were dying.
I hadn’t been reborn nor awakened to any memories, yet I had seen events from my previous life as if I were watching a movie.
Jiang Nian had always downplayed his past experiences, and Chen Yue had avoided the topic when explaining things.
I thought his past life must have been sad and full of suffering, but I never imagined it was this tragic.
Even after taking revenge on those people and tormenting them in every way possible, he didn’t feel any joy.
Dying together, hand in hand with someone you love, weighed down by reluctance and regret—that wasn’t real relief. After all, it should have been them who died.
I’d started to believe that everything had been fated, whether or not this was the reason Jiang Nian was reborn.
“…”
Jiang Nian hummed a tune as he walked into the house, holding a bag of hand-rolled noodles made by his mom. Cheng Jing had just stepped out of the bathroom and looked at the guy in the bear-patterned pajamas. He couldn’t help but laugh.
“You actually went out in pajamas.”
They made him look younger than usual.
“Ah! Brother Jing, you’re awake!”
Startled at first, Jiang Nian set the noodles down on the table and ran over like a puppy, kicking off his slippers.
“Yeah.”
Cheng Jing was only wearing casual shorts; his upper body was bare. He caught Jiang Nian with both arms and took a couple of steps back. He let Jiang Nian fall onto the sofa and folded his arms with satisfaction.
“Niannian.”
The person in his arms was warm and real, and his eyes were full of him.
“… ”
After hugging for a while, Jiang Nian lowered his head, leaned against his neck, and asked in a muffled voice,
“How do you feel? Is anything strange with your body or your superpowers? You looked really uncomfortable when you were unconscious.”
Cheng Jing patted his back and replied with a smile.
“Nothing strange. I’ve never felt better. Don’t worry; everything’s fine.”
Then, he changed the subject and said,
“Niannian, I had a nightmare and saw scenes from my past life. It wasn’t a recovered memory; it was a real dream about my past life. I saw myself saving you, and then…”
“Brother Jing.”
Jiang Nian cut him off, propping himself up with both hands and smiling.
“You must be hungry after sleeping for days. I’ll make you something to eat first. Let’s eat, then talk.”
He was mentally prepared, so he wasn’t shocked. Compared to the things he had been worried about before, Brother Jing merely dreaming about his past life wasn’t a big deal.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Jing let go of him and nodded.
“Alright. I just took an energy shot, so my appetite hasn’t fully returned. I’ll cook something.”
Jiang Nian kissed his face.
“Then I’ll make you noodles. Mom just made them. They’re really good. I’ll add two boiled eggs. They’re light and nutritious.”
“Okay.”
Cheng Jing didn’t refuse. He was lying comfortably on the sofa, watching people work. For the time being, he didn’t want to call his parents and friends to tell them that he was awake.
Suddenly, a piece of clothing was tossed onto him, and Jiang Nian reminded him,
“Put your clothes on.”
Cheng Jing smiled and picked up the clothes.
“What’s wrong? You don’t like it? Tired of watching me sleep these past few days?”
That brat’s occasional “inappropriate” behavior always managed to grab his attention.
A moment later, Jiang Nian poked his head out from the kitchen, chopsticks in hand and ears turning red.
“I’m not tired of you. We’re an old couple now. Brother Jing, please stop trying to seduce me like that.”
He used to think his boyfriend was pretty laid-back when they were lounging around at home, but now he realized that his boyfriend was trying to seduce him. Every time, he couldn’t stop himself from pouncing like a cat spotting a fish. Afterward, he’d wonder if he was getting too touchy-feely.
“Heh…”
Cheng Jing chuckled and didn’t argue. He obediently got dressed, turned on all the lights, walked to the dining table, and sat down to wait.
Soon, Jiang Nian brought over a bowl of simple egg noodles and sat down across from him. He rested his chin on his hands and watched Cheng Jing eat with a smile in his eyes and at the corners of his brows.
Once he was finished eating, the other person would take the initiative to clean up the dishes, so he wouldn’t have to lift a finger. He was very well-behaved.
In fact, Cheng Jing, who had just woken up from a nightmare about his past life, found his desire for his lover was stronger than ever.
They were an old couple—there was no need to hold back or play coy. He walked up behind his lover at the sink and hugged him:
“Niannian, keep me company for a bit, okay?”
The tone at the end lifted just a little, and the hand holding the bowl trembled. Someone who had just stopped undressing to seduce him had now become more direct and flirty—and it worked even better. After all, as long as it was Jingge, he’d fall for it every time.
Unable to suppress his curiosity, he turned around and asked,
“Here?”
Cheng Jing didn’t answer. He just lowered his head and accurately sealed his lips.
Light and shadow overlapped just right, and the noisy love exploded when their lips met—impossible to stop.
Overcome by an indescribable emotion, Cheng Jing pinned the other person down and continued to bite them fiercely.
Of course, it didn’t end there.
By the time they got back to the room, Jiang Nian was slightly out of breath. Dizzy, he held the hand reaching for the box.
“I don’t want to use that today…”
After all, safety wasn’t an issue with his superpowers. He just wanted to skip the hassle.
Cheng Jing bent down and kissed his eyelid.
“Alright, no need.”
But just as he bent over, the little brat opened his mouth again.
“I want to try using electricity on you, Brother Jing. Using an insulator isn’t very satisfying.”
“…”
Cheng Jing froze.
“Do you even know what you’re saying?”
He really was his boyfriend—he had the nerve to ask for anything!
Jiang Nian pinched his face provocatively.
“No? Can’t handle it?”
Cheng Jing immediately retorted.
“It’s not that I can’t. I can handle it. It’s just…why’d you suddenly think of this?”
There was no way he couldn’t handle it. He was amazing!
“I thought of it after seeing you in action that day. The thunder and fire in the sky were spectacular. Come on, Brother Jing.”
Jiang Nian grinned mischievously; he definitely wasn’t going to admit that he got the idea from Chu Yi.
“I’m afraid you’ll cry…”
Cheng Jing didn’t buy it. What kind of decent person would associate that scene with doing this in bed?
But it was what he wanted. He’d thought about it shortly after awakening his superpowers, but he hadn’t dared to bring it up for fear of being called a pervert. Now, it was fine.
Jiang Nian stated plainly:
“You talk like you’ve never made me cry before.”
Then, he leaned forward and kissed the corner of his mouth.
“Let’s celebrate that we’re all alive.”
“Yeah.”
Another passionate kiss swept over him, and the love that had built up across two lifetimes surged up all at once.
