Le Yu met Qiu Yang when she was a junior and heartbroken. Yue Chu brought Qiu Yang to her and asked her to look after Qiu Yang. She had always respected Senior Yue Chu, so she took her words to heart. Moreover, Qiu Yang was well-behaved and pretty, which made her even more willing.
But she didn’t expect her care for Qiu Yang to change, though the sadness remained.
This time, the sadness was because she had fallen for Qiu Yang.
But Qiu Yang didn’t like her back.
Qiu Yang was busy with studies and part-time jobs, not only having no time for romance but also showing no inclination to like her back. If there was any liking, it was the kind between friends, appreciation.
Le Yu became worried about this.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about confessing, but if she did, she and Qiu Yang definitely wouldn’t even be able to be friends.
This is a common worry for many people who fall for their friends.
The fear is that if the confession fails, they won’t even be friends anymore.
Fortunately, she was also busy with an internship the following semester and wasn’t in school much. She was swamped every day. During this time, many people sent her ambiguous signals, but she put them all on ignore, only thinking about going back to school to find Qiu Yang when the break came.
Perhaps she had been mentioning Qiu Yang to Yue Chu a bit too frequently lately. Even from such a distance, Yue Chu sensed her feelings for Qiu Yang.
Yue Chu even found an opportunity to call her and started right away: “Le Yu, do you like Yangyang?”
Le Yu was startled: “Who wouldn’t like Xiao Qiu Yang?”
“Don’t you like Xiao Qiu Yang quite a bit too, Sister Chu?”
“You know that’s not what I mean,” Yue Chu said seriously.
Le Yu knew she couldn’t escape, so she gritted her teeth and admitted: “Yes.”
“I do like her.”
This was the first time she had told anyone that she liked Qiu Yang.
Yue Chu was silent for a few seconds on the other end of the phone before her voice sounded again: “Yangyang is a good person. I don’t want to see her get hurt, and I don’t want to see you get hurt either.”
“I know what to do,” Le Yu said with a slightly bitter laugh. “As long as she shows even a little sign of liking me back, I’ll make a move.”
But Qiu Yang didn’t show any sign of liking her back, just like before.
On countless nights, Le Yu wanted to confess to Qiu Yang while tipsy. But the moment she dialed the number and heard Qiu Yang’s voice, her rationality would return, and the words on the tip of her tongue would only turn into: “Xiao Qiu Yang, how have you been lately?”
After she graduated, Qiu Yang stayed in school for another two years. Le Yu actually knew Qiu Yang didn’t like her, and she didn’t force it. She would occasionally go back to school to see how Qiu Yang was doing. Actually, it was quite far from her home to the school, taking fifty to sixty minutes by car, but she still went diligently.
Later, when Qiu Yang was about to graduate, she helped Qiu Yang find a place and drove her around.
The physical distance between them became much closer.
From then on, Le Yu felt that she wasn’t completely without a chance. She thought that if she was just a little bit nicer to Qiu Yang and showed her feelings a bit more, maybe Qiu Yang would give her some response.
But what she didn’t expect was that a few months later, just as she was about to find an opportunity to ask Qiu Yang out to hang out…
Qiu Yang refused her, saying she needed to spend time with her girlfriend.
Le Yu still remembered how she felt when she saw that message. It was as if the sky had fallen and the earth had caved in. Her eyes instantly welled up.
Even when she was heartbroken three years ago, she hadn’t felt this bad.
After calming down, she finally had the strength to reply to Qiu Yang: 【You have a girlfriend now?】
【Congratulations then, Xiao Qiu Yang.】
【I’m quite busy too, I’ll get back to it.】
After this, Le Yu didn’t see Qiu Yang again. She worked hard to distance herself from Qiu Yang, afraid that if she couldn’t control herself and didn’t hide her feelings well, it would trouble Qiu Yang.
At first, she was very upset. Whenever she had time, she would go to a bar to drink, and each time she would get completely drunk.
After waking up, she would call Yue Chu, and each time she would just cry silently.
Yue Chu said regretfully: “If I had known you would fall for her, I wouldn’t have asked you to look after her back then.”
“No, Sister Chu, I’m glad you asked me to look after her back then.”
“I never regret meeting Xiao Qiu Yang.”
Yue Chu could only sigh.
Le Yu focused her attention on work. She also tried dating, but in the end, she would always be called a jerk.
The girlfriends she dated would point at her and curse, asking why she was with them when she clearly liked someone else.
Le Yu didn’t know how to answer. She didn’t want to be like this; she also wanted herself to like them.
But it was very difficult to do.
Occasionally checking Qiu Yang’s Moments, she could get some new information about Qiu Yang.
For example, Qiu Yang moved, Qiu Yang got a cat, Qiu Yang moved in with her girlfriend.
Fortunately, time can indeed fade many things. Le Yu was no longer stuck in a dead end. When she thought of Qiu Yang again, besides some lingering heartache, she seemed to have no other thoughts.
Even that bit of heartache was enough to make her feel bad.
Seeing Qiu Yang’s table at the restaurant, Le Yu wasn’t surprised at all.
But her mood wasn’t without fluctuations. She also made eye contact with Yue Chu.
Over the past few years, her contact with Yue Chu had also decreased significantly. Le Yu knew Yue Chu was back but hadn’t had a chance to meet. This time, they both saw each other.
She also saw the woman sitting next to Qiu Yang.
She knew this was Qiu Yang’s new girlfriend, having learned it from Yue Chu. Just two days prior, she had heard about Qiu Yang and her ex from Yue Chu and only then found out that Qiu Yang had broken up.
To gauge Shen Ningruo’s reaction, Le Yu deliberately had the waiter leave that message for Qiu Yang.
It was actually meant for Shen Ningruo.
Fortunately, Shen Ningruo passed the test and didn’t blame these things on Qiu Yang. Le Yu felt that she and Yue Chu truly had a “mother hen” mentality. However, to be honest, Le Yu really wanted to see Qiu Yang.
They hadn’t seen each other in nearly three years.
Qiu Yang didn’t refuse. Qiu Yang would definitely bring Shen Ningruo, so Le Yu bought an extra cup when she got milk tea.
Seeing Qiu Yang again, Le Yu’s mood still fluctuated a bit. Her feelings for Qiu Yang might only have a tiny bit left.
But not completely gone means not completely gone –
Who wouldn’t like a girl like Xiao Qiu Yang? –
But Xiao Qiu Yang only likes you, so what can I do?
These two sentences were Le Yu’s inner thoughts. On the surface, she pretended nothing was happening, but inwardly, she still cared a little.
The second sentence was directed at herself.
Even if Qiu Yang changed partners, if she didn’t like her, she just didn’t. There was nothing she could do. At that moment, Le Yu suddenly convinced herself.
Her little bit of persistence was meaningless. She should seriously invest herself in a relationship.
Having reconnected with Qiu Yang, she would ask them out to hang out, occasionally using the excuse of having Qiu Yang and Shen Ningruo help her vet potential dates.
But the real purpose was to make herself more aware of how stable Qiu Yang and Shen Ningruo’s relationship was, so she could completely give up hope.
It worked well.
This method was very effective.
Seeing Qiu Yang and Shen Ningruo appear together in front of her again, she didn’t feel much anymore. Her cheerful demeanor no longer needed to be faked. From now on, she would be friends with Qiu Yang again, but she would never feel the same pain as before.
This is really good, Le Yu thought.
This six-year-long crush finally came to an end.
